BDLS in productive ERP system

I have an interesting requirement.  A customer is currently running R/3 4.7 with multiple countries.  They want to split the system so one country has it's own system.  The approach has been to take the existing 3-system landscape and perform a homogeneous system copy to a new landscape.  The catch is that they want to use the same corporate BI system for reporting, so BDLS must be run in the new landscape since these new systems will be connecting to the same BI system as the originals.
We know SAP doesn't officially support running BDLS in a productive system like this, but we don't see any other options.  I've looked at the SAP Landscape Transformation documents, and while the Solution Map references "Split Systems" under the "Consolidate and Reduce IT Cost" Scenario, the guides don't include any documentation for this scenario.
I've split systems before, for example when a company sells off a subsidiary, but in those instances we left the old logical system intact.
Does anyone have any suggestions that would allow us to split the production system and have both resulting systems connect to the same BI system for reporting purposes?
Thanks,
Rich

My suggestion would be to run BDLS to change the logical system name of the ECC client only on the copied system.
Do not run the BDLS for changing the logical system name for BI client  in the copied ECC system.
Before you do such a critical activity , make sure you simulate the steps on a temporary environment i.e building test systems for simulation. This would be quite a good approximation of the things to come .

  • Display Datasource in Source System -- connects to Production ERP

    Hello,
We have performed a System Copy of BI Prod. In the copied system on one of the Generic DataSource (ZBIP_VKDFSEXT) when I right click and say "Display Datasource in Source System", it is connecting to Production ERP, supposedly it must be connecting to Dev ERP.
I have tested RFC COnnections and Logical System Settings in WE20 and 21, but they are pointing to DEV ERP.
    Correct replies appreciated.
    Thanks

    Dear SM,
I guess we have faced same kind of issue earlier,
at that time we just removed RFC connection between production system because we are not using Production system connection any more.
and then just clicked on connection parameter of source-system, there we defined new RFC destination.
Hope it will solve your issue.

  • Need suggestion on importing BC SET : UKM_DCD_CUST in SAP ERP system

    Dear Gurus,
Client wants me to import BC SET : UKM_DCD_CUST into SAP ERP system. I have found BC SET : UKM_DCD_CUST in T code SCPR20.
I have read most of the SCN discussion and got two way to import BC SET into ERP system as given below. But I need the appropriate way to do this. Can any one help me in this?
    1. SCPR20 -> Activate BC set -> create customizing request to import into another system as per link :Business Configuration Sets (BC Sets) and their use - Basis Corner - SCN Wiki
    2. Create TR in SE01 in 000 and import into required client  as per below proc:
    Usual procedure
    1) BC SETS will be attached to SAP note usually. Download it and unzip it , you will get a *.bcs file
    2) Call transaction SCPR20  BC set --> Upload In the dialog box that then appears, specify the files that you unpacked
Import the set BC into a package that you have defined. activate it with the "Expert mode"
    3) You will also get a *.txt file with prog id , obj etc entries , then you have to go to SE09 and create a transport request in the source client of your Solution Manager system (client 000). Open the *.txt and copy the entries it contains into the transport request. Use transaction SCC1 to import the data in your Solution Manager client(s)
    Thanks,
    Anand Aseri

2). Client copies bring the Customization data but not WorkBench . So you might have to do transport of copies from Old Dev to >New Dev.
So you are saying that the system copy from Production will not bring Workbench data and I need to bring Workbench data by transports?
*system copy from Production will bring Workbench data also, but when you do client copy from development system again on top of client which already has production customization, data and workbench requests, Production customization and data will be overwritten from development customization and data (it depends on the profile you choose for the client copy) *
However  Development Workbench requests are more and also has ongoing development work which might not be available in production client and those (Ongoing development workbench requests) you need to import in new system as transport of copies after the client copy
3). If you do system copy from Production and do client copy from dev...obviously Prod customization will be overwritten with Dev rite ?
That's what I expect to happen,
Ok, however, You might need to get Development Work too from the old dev system and don't forget about setting up of partner profiles in WE20.
It's just a thought ,  Do you have testing client in Dev, if not,You can leave the production client in development system and use it as testing client.
Create new client which is client copy of Old Dev and import WorkBench requests *
    Thanks,
    Arjun

  • How to integrate a sales process across multiple ERP systems with SOA?

Over time we have merged with multiple companies that used to run on their own ERP system.  In the past we concerted them to our own R/3 instance.  Having recently upgraded from R/3 4.6 to ERP 6.0, we want to transition to a SOA architecture for integrating stand-alone ERP systems.  We are looking for best practices on how to start this transition; i.e., how to use SOA to implement an Order-to-Cash process across separate ERP systems.
    Here is our scenario:
The same products are sold through ERP system A and ERP system B.  However, each system represents a different company code with its separate manufacturing plants.  Both systems evolved independently and presently have separate master data.  How do you enable a sales process that dynamically (depending on inventory availability) gets the product either from a plant on system A or B? How do you implement a triangular sale that covers both ERP systems?
I am looking forward to learn from your experiences and your advice.

    Hi Bernard,
Like most SOA scenarios, first your scenario requires a detailed fit gap analysis to see which of your existing ERP systems best meet which business process that you want to accomplish at an organisation level. It is only after that, that you can decide which capabilities of SAP SOA can you leverage and how.
Broadly speaking, SAP's SOA paradigm provides several approaches which you could use depending on your scenarios. For example, if you only need a brokerage between two or more systems (updating or retrieval of data) either synchronously or asynchronously, your best bet is PI (preferably 7.1 because of its ESR and Services Registry). On the other hand, if you require a new application that acts as a controller of flow or processing across various systems, you could use the Composition Environment which provides you with a toolset to build composite applications across various systems (for instance, by registering services from multiple systems on the Services Registry, and then consuming it from say a WebDynpro application).
The following document might provide you with more insight on this:

    Hi All,
W.R.T. to following tangible benefits from an ERP systems, in your opinion what should be the way to evaluate the current legacy or Erp and prove the advantages of SAP over it.
Empirical or Tangible Benefits from ERP System
    1>Inventory Reduction
    2>Productivity Improvement
    3>Order Management Improvement
    4>Financial Close Cycle time Reduction
    5>IT Cost Reduction
    6>Procurement Cost Reduction
    7>Cash Management Improvement
    8>Revenue / Profit Increase
    9>Transpiration / Logistics Cost Reductions
    10>Maintenance Cost Reduction
    11>On-time Delivery
And if somebody can suggest more tangible benefits in terms clients bottom-line he / she is welcome to join the discussion?

you need to look at the landscape the current system is in.
How many systems are required for the full end to end processes?
    User friendly?
What can SAP do that the other systems cant?
Will these things/ processes add value to the business i.e. MSS/ ESS, SRM, FSCM
How much manual work is required for month end?
SAP it can be automated, and the key month end closing should be able to be reduced.
Hope this gives you some ideas of what else to consider.
Please award points if this is useful.

    Hi Sunil,
You are getting error in the Sales Order is because of Master Data.
Sales Documents will flow from CRM to R/3 when master data is consistent in R/3 & CRM side.
Please maintain the master data in R/3 side & download into CRM Side.
For Customer use adpater object CUSTOMER_MAIN & for Material object is "Material"
Use following link for downloading  Customer Master & Material master.

  • Error occurs when set up middleware to new ERP system

    Hi,
We are chainging ERP system to upgrade ERP  version.
So we must set up  middleware newly on CRM system(CRM 5.0).
so, I made new RFC destination and site..and another middleware setting.
The other initial download is succeed. But when I download the DNL_CUST_PROD1 to get product
hierarchy, this error message occured..-> "Hierarchy R3PRODHIER may only be changed in the original system <system name> ".
And I found the note about this symptom.(Note 369684)
But at this note, I can not find the solution. (or I could not understand the solution.)
I think that I should do the solution No. 4.
As solution No 4, I checked transaction COMM_PRAPPLCAT.  Sales application is set to R3PRODHIER. I deleted the sales application. and downloaded again. But this error occured again.
I think I shoul delete R3PRODHIER hierarchy at the transaction COMM_HIERARCHY. But I can not do that.
    How should I do?
And I think that I do not understand the solution of Note 369684.
So..please tell me the solution easyly.
Edited by: WON BUM LEE on Sep 26, 2008 10:15 AM

I found the solution. As the note 369684 turn off detective of error message.
At the first time, I didn't do that because that is for CRM4.0. But it is work on the CRM 5.0.

  • Fresh source system clients in production BW system

    Hi,
In my production BW system, all transfer rules currently point to 400 clients of source systems.
Now requirement has changed and test data is being created in 310 clients of source systems, and not the 400 clients.
I know about new source system creation and RFC connections in sm59,but how to (in a simple way) make all transfer rules to point to the 310 clients, instead of the 400 clients.
    Thanks,
    Vishvesh

    Hello,
This issue got resolved by using below steps..
The requirement is that Clients 400 connection should no longer exists in BW and  replaced by clients  310
Below steps would hold good if the datasources of
    CLNT310 & CLNT400 are identical.
    1) Delete CLNT310 in BW (no Datasources of this system is  used  in BW)
    2) run BDLS in BW change CLNT400 to CLNT310
    3) Run RSAP_BIW_DISCONNECT in 310 clients ..
    f) Restore connection CLNT310
    Cheers,
    Vishvesh

  • Can two ERP systems  talk to one SCM?

    Hello Experts,
We have a requirement to connect Two ERP systems to one SCM system?
Is this option available is available in SCM? CIF processing and optimizer should divide for the two ERP systems in SCM.
    Please advice .
    Thanks
    Ramesh

    Hi Ramesh,
Yes;  it is possible to integrate multiple R/3 systems with single APO. You need to define multiple business system groups in APO  and assign to different R/3 logical systems to be integrated(transaction /SAPAPO/C1 and /SAPAPO/C2). Also you can use CIF enhancements APOCF001 on APO inbound  to attach (suffix) a unique R/3 identifier along with product and location codes. For this, you have to maintain a Z table containing the required suffixes. You may further refer to application help in the enhancement transaction.

  • Two SCM Systems connected to one ERP System

    Hello Experts,
Here again I got a doubt.
Is it technically possible to connect two SCM Systems via CIF to one ERP System?
Because I heard that we could connect more than one ERP System to one SCM System, but not vice versa.
If you have seen a system in production like this, what are the pros and cons of having such a scenario?
    Expecting your valuable replies!
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Suresh

    Hi,
technically it's no problem to connect two or more SCM systems to the same ERP system. We have one for DP/ PP/DS, one for EWM and one for SNC connected to the same R/3 systems. You however might get problems with the bom explosion for planned orders being sent from SCM to R/3.
The bom explosion uses field MARC-APOKZ which is maintained automatically by CIF. If there are multiple SCM system using CIF for product master data the field might not be set up correctly and the bom explosion could be wrong.
As a solution SAP provided OSS note 1576703.

  • Jdeveloper to construct ERP system

    Dear all:
I am interesting to know whether have someone even using jdeveloper to design web-based ERP system ? because all success story about jdeveloper is all e-commerce or e-business solution , I doubt that poor web-based user interface interactive whether suitable to construct a ERP system, because ERP system can be seen a data-driven system and need more user interface interactive with database, but web-based solution have limit interactive user interface.

If you use BC4J in local mode, you do not even need a J2EE Server :-)). So ou get a multi tier architecture with a 2 tier hardware (client and database server).
There are restrictions in building sophisticated UIs, e.g. the number of rows displayed in a multirecord block is defined at design time and not as runtime. There where also plenty restrictions with tab control, and so on.
If the UI and also performance delivered by Web Forms is good enough, then i'm sure it is more productive than BC4J.
Of course it also depends on your developers. Perhaps good Java developers are easier to find than good forms developers.
No idea, what product has more bugs (forms or BC4J), but there are plenty of...
