  • Microsoft Office updates installation failures - conflict with Installer?

I have had this ongoing issue where all updates to MS Office (both 2008 and now 2011) fail to install. It makes no difference whether I use AutoUpdate or download them directly from the Microsoft/mac downloads site. The installer seems to encounter the same error -- something to do with the "quit_apps.app"? I don't have any other programs running when I try to install, and I've also tried installing after a Safe Boot, but to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Hi,
try this: create a new user and login as that user and try again. Does it still crash? Then the problem is a system issue. If it works, then it's a problem in your normal user account.
    Cheers.

  • Installation InDesignCS6 failed: conflict with imageready.exe

I tried several times to install indesignCS6 via cloud.
during installation I get message that there is a conflict with imageready.exe, which should be closed.
In taskmanager there is no such file active.
Imageready is not installed on computer.
Only file with similar name I found is an exe that belongs to a backup-tool (not activated during installation process) called shadowprotect (by storagecraft).
    Any idea? Thanks for helping.

The issue isn't with the processes, its actually a service running so go to your `task manager` then click `services` then at the bottom there will be a button `services` with the admin icon. Click on that and then you will be brought into a window with all the services running, look for `StorageCraft ImageReady` and stop that service. Once done you will be able to run the install as normal.

  • Text editing bug: conflict with Facebook widget

And just when I thought this program couldn't be MORE frustrating. The simplest of text editing features flatly refused to cooperate. Double click, triple click, with the direct selection tool selected. Nope won't select a goddam thing. Turned out to be a conflict with a Facebook widget I had applied on a master page.
    ATTN: bug department!

Thank you so much for replying.
Yes I have removed and reinstalled WMP.
I had good results with the PD6 application installed on the default path onto the C: drive with the one exception that if the application was launched by accident and the user data path was not available, the PD6 application would blow away my custom user path registry settings. Now that I know what they are I have made a .reg file to repair my registry to my desired user data paths.
Installing the application on the removable drive appeared to help prevent me from launching the application by accident and overwriting my registry with default user paths.
So which is the less of the two evils?
If the application directory is not available, windows media player still tries to launch the .msi for installing PD6.
If I install the application to the C: drive but the user data to the removable drive, launching the PD6 application without the user data drive will still corrupt my registry settings for a user data path.
Both these issues seem like a logical (if not easy) fix that should be done in the PD6 application and installation package. I mean really, cannot anyone tell me why windows media player is checking the PD6 application directory? Why in PD4 did we have an option control for setting the user data path from the PD4 application? Why is this option not in the PD6 application, just the installer?
I am given a choice during installation to move the user data to another non default location. Why else would this be provided if not to accommodate my kind of request to store the user data into an alternate location other than “My Document”. Certainly Palm is not trying to force the users on how to protect and store their personal data?

  • Bridge has never launched - Error code 6 on installation - So frustrated with "support" - HELP!

So, I'm going to rant just like everyone else here. It makes me feel better. I spent 11 HOURS on the phone with Adobe's foreign support team yesterday and still, nothing is resolved! At this point, I will not relent until my problem is solved.
    Here's the deal:
I got CS5 Creative Suite Design Standard in October 2010 and installed it on my Mac. I have only learned to use Photoshop and really wanted to use Bridge, but Bridge would never launch. I always got an error that the program quit unexpectedly. I was reluctant to call Adobe knowing I would be on the phone forever. Little did I imagine 11 hours!
Yesterday, I finally called. They said that my initial installation must not have been successful due to permission issues. After 5 people I couldn't understand well and 5 disc uninstall/re-installs, I am still getting the infamous "exit code 6" error upon installation. Photoshop still works, but not Bridge. They said that exit code 6 is a known issue but that it is a generic code and could be caused by many things. The latest thing they asked me to do (at 11PM last night) was send them the error logs from the installation. I did and it could take 24 - 48 hours for them to analyze & respond. I personally don't think they will ever call me back, so I will have to hound them again today.
I don't understand why installing software has to be so freaking hard! The won't give me a new disk to see if I have a bad one, but they say that reading these error logs and acting on them always resolves the issue. Why they didn't say that in hour 4, I don't know.
Has anyone else had this issue? Please tell me what you did to solve it!

Here is a link to Error 6 on a Windows machine.  Although a different OS there may be similarities with your problem.  Might be worth a read.
It is a long thread but look at post #136 for sure.  The fellow solved his problem, in his case a conflict with the anti-virus.
Hope this helps to get you up an running.

  • Avahi conflicts with nss-mdns. [solved]

I'm confused.  Went to update today, and got this message:
    :: avahi conflicts with nss-mdns. Remove nss-mdns? [Y/n]
I thought 'Fair enough...' but I always check packages like this with -Si to know what's actually happening in my system.  Soo, I run:
    $ pacman -Si avahi
    Repository : extra
    Name : avahi
    Version : 0.6.6-2
    Groups : None
    Provides : howl mdnsresponder
Depends On : dbus libcap libdaemon nss-mdns
    Conflicts With : howl mdnsresponder
    Replaces : None
    Size (compressed) : 557952
    Description : A multicast/unicast DNS-SD framework
    MD5 Sum : 52ec5424dde107d8099637feb3076925
Now, this is why I'm confused.  -Si tells me avahi depends on nss-mdns.  When I try to install, it tells me they conflict.
    So.... which is right?
    -=edit=-
Okay, I've found something else out that may be pertinent.  Currently, the packages I have for avahi and nss-mdns depend on each other.  That is:
    $pacman -Si nss-mdns avahi
    Name : nss-mdns
    Version : 0.7-3
    Depends On : avahi
    Required By : avahi kdelibs
    Name : avahi
    Version : 0.6.5-1
Depends On : dbus libcap libdaemon nss-mdns
    Required By : nss-mdns
However there are new packages for both avahi and nss-mdns available in the repos. (0.7-4 and 6.6-2 respectively)
The thing is, pacman isn't picking up the new nss-mdns package with a -Syu operation, and gives me that conflicts line... I'm going to try updating nss-mdns first then see if that fixes it.
    -=edit again=-
Geez, I hate it when I post something and moments later figure it out myself.  The newest versions of nss-mdns and avahi break the dependancy cycle I noted above; that is, nss-mdns no longer depends on avahi.  If I manually updated nss-mdns first, pacman now installs avahi with no problem.
I'm wondering, is this worth a bug report?  I'm not surprised a cyclic dependancy like that would cause wierd behaviour...

You get that error because they DO conflict.  Do you have mdnsresponder installed?
If so, and you want avahi, then you'll have to remove mdnsresponder and install avahi.

    @wonder
Thanks for the tip! It makes sense.
However, the current PKGBUILD for libdesktop-agnostic-gnome-bzr speaks about dependencies like so:
    depends=('glib2' 'gtk2>=2.20.0' 'gconf' 'gnome-vfs' 'gnome-desktop')
makedepends=('bzr' 'python' 'pygobject' 'pygtk' 'vala' 'gobject-introspection')
    optdepends=('python')
    conflicts=('libdesktop-agnostic')
And I still get the build error. I suspect the workaround is to force a removal of gtk-gir but I'm hesitating because I really don't want to break my AWN installation.
Am I being too cautios - or is there a better way of doing this?
    Thanks!

  • CS4 Design Premium conflicts with other programs

I have installed CS4 Design Premium with great difficulty on a Windows XP service pack 3 machine. I also got to about 90% and the program would stop. I eventually installed Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash and InDesign individually. It appeared that all programs were working except Illustrator. When I tried to launch  Illustrator I received the following:  "Illustrator.exe Bad Image  The application or DLL C:\Programs Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4\Support Files\Contents\Windows\Alcid.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check against your installation diskette."
I ended up uninstalling Illustrator. I was going to reinstall it but then I started having other issues.
Since installing, everything slowed to a crawl. Internet Explorer crashes, even Notebook crashes. There seems to be some sort of conflict with CS4 causing instability. If Adobe support was available I would call them. They are unavailable until October 14. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am going to uninstall all of CS4 in hopes of stabilizing my computer. Other than that I don't know what to try.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
    Windows XP Service Pack 3
    2.80 GHz
    1GB RAM
Device drivers are up to date

I probably will buy more RAM but I don't think that is my problem. I have the conflicts without even opening any of the Creative Suite Programs. Something running in the background is probably the cause. What does Creative Suites run in the background? I uninstalled the Media Player. I am wondering if it is related to Acrobat 9 Pro, Acrobat.com, or Adobe Drive? Do I need Acrobat.com? What for? What is Adobe Drive?
By the way I have over 400 GBs of hard drive space available. When I look at the RAM usage it is OK. Thanks for any help.

  • Indesign can't install because of conflict with InDesign

When trying to install trial version of Indesign CS3, I get an error message that states...Adobe InDesign CS3 cannot be installed because of a conflict with Abobe InDesign CS3...
I have run search and can not find any instance of "Adobe InDesign CS3" on the computer. Suggestions? HELP?

Try calling Adobe tech support. I'm not certain what the policy is on supporting installation of trial versions, but it can't hurt, and if they'll talk to you they should do it no charge.
If not, the best I can recommend is to run MSconfig and turn off all non-Microsoft services and all non-essential startup group items, and to make sure any firewall is disabled and no virus scanners are running before trying to install.
Other things known to conflict are iTunes, instant messengers, browser toolbars, and flash player (for which you'll find removal instructions at http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1).
The only other major hurdle I can think of is that some new systems don't have jscript.dll properly registered. To do that, go to the start menu and select RUN, then type (without the quotes) "regsvr32 jscript.dll" and click OK. You should see a message that it was registered successfully, and doing it again won't hurt anything.

  • My application conflicts with another Measurement Studio based application.

    Hi,
Our instrument is made by a third party, and they appear to use Measurement Studio in the development of their control software.
We use Measurement Studio when developing our test software. When we install our test application on a production machine (no programming environment installed), we sometimes get a message about only being able to use controls for 5 minutes in an "evaluation-only" mode.
It is clear that there are some library file revision conflicts, e.g.: in cwui.ocx and presumably others. The third party is using a slightly different revision of these files to ourselves. What is the the best way to consistently resolve these conflicts?
    Thanks,
    Richard Brockie

    Hi Richard Brockie,
You are correct in assuming there is a conflict with cwui.ocx.
If the target computer does not have Measurement Studio, it will not contain the .ocx and .dll files required for the executable to run. Microsoft Visual Studio .NET has a Setup and Deployment Projects type that allows you to create a MSI installer that finds all of the dependencies for the project and then installs them on the target machine when the setup is executed.
I've included the following link that demonstrates the process of creating an installer for a Windows application, using .NET or Active X controls.

  • Cryptocme2.dll - conflict with other applications

    Hi,
A few machines in our firm have ArcServe Manager installed. This is causing a dll conflict with Crystal Reports 2010. The dll in question is cryptocme2.dll.
If I rename that dll in the Arcserve folder, the crystal report can render without problems. This Arcserve is in the Windows Path environtment variable, however shouldn't crystal reference it's own?
We originally thought it was an install issue only - Error 1904 when installing Crystal Reports 2010 Redistributable however it turns out this is a runtime issue as well.
Can we please fix Crystal Reports so that it references it's own cryptocme2.dll?
    Thanks

    Hi
CR for VS2005 is already installed on my workstation.
When installing CR for VS2010 SP1, the following error message pops up :
Error 1904. Module C:\Program Files\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports for .NET Framework 4.0\Common\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win32_x86\ReportPromptEMF.dll failed to register.  HRESULT -2147023898.
If I rename the cryptocme2.dll file which is in the path (environment variable), the installation can end successfully.
As long as I keep that dll renamed, everything works fine.
However when I restore the original file name, I can't even open a rpt in design mode ("unable to open document" error message from SAP Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer)
    And at runtime :
Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID  {F734A321-8381-4FFD-A614-139E8906DC83} failed due to the following error : 800703e6.
    Hope this will help
    Thank you for your time
