Beginner date frustration

Question

I'm new to Java and am just going through some basic exercises with the Date object. Consider the following method of an invoice object:
public Date getDueDate()
          long current = invoiceDate.getTime();
          Date date =  new Date(current + (30 * 24 * 60 * 60 * 1000));
          return date;
     }The intent is to add 30 days to the invoice date and return that as a due date. Upon printing the invoice date along with the due date however, I was surprised to see that the due date was given as 30 days before the invoice date, not after. With a little experimenting I found that if I added 1 day instead of 30, I'd get one day ahead. So increasing that time span, it seems that I can add anything up to 24 days worth of milliseconds to the current date and it will return the correct date. As soon as I go to 25 days however, it suddenly subtracts 25 days from the current date. I totally confused! Can someone offer some insight as to what's going wrong?

I told you my opinion of it, as one (probably fairly typical) regular here. When it comes to deciding whether a given question gets answered, of course it is only the opinion of the respondents that matters, and not the opinion of the one who posted the question. You might think you're the greatest guy in the world, but clearly that opinion means squat when I am deciding whether to answer your question. Obviously others here are free to form their own opinions and decide whether to answer or not. I'm just letting you know that at least one potential respondent finds it rude.

Nobody here cares whether you agree about whether something was rude or not. I'm merely informing you of how people here tend to perceive things. Many of us find certain behaviors to be rude and won't help people who exhibit those behaviors. You can use that knowledge to inform your behavior (i.e., the content of your posts), or you can ignore it, to show how much you're not swayed by consensus, in which case you'll get less help. Your choice. Doesn't matter a whit to me.
