Best make that ties in with Imovie

I am looking to purchase a HD camcorder for around 600 quid, what is the best buy that ties in with Imovie as well, the guy in the Sony store wasnt sure if the Sony brand would run with an apple computer

I like Canon MUCH better than Sony. Sony is a direct competitor of Apple and as such I think they support Apple with reduced enthusiasm.
Canon makes excellent equipment and their technical support people always seem Macintosh savvy (They were very familiar with iMovie).

I use my Canon with iMovie 06 and iDVD 08. (and occasionally with iMovie 08)

  • HD camcorder that works well with iMovie - recommendations

Any recommendation for a reasonably price HD camcorder that works well with iMovie?  I've been researching the Sony HDR-CX260V.  It's on the list of compatible cameras but says it will not work when it's set to 1080/60p.
I just want something that I can plug in and import video without a lot of hassle.
    Thanks!

Here is an Apple published list: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2948 . Just about any DV, HDV and AVCHD camcorder buit by the big Japanese manufacturer's: Canon, JVC, Panasonic or Sony will work, even the newer one's, not on the list. Don't bother with the new Sanyo if you want simple Plug-n-play. This web site: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php# , has good reviews, so pick your priorities, costs, etc. Best of luck.

Well, people are always complaining that their exported movies are not of high quality, but mine look great, and I only export at 720p. The orginal is shot at 1080 30p. Here are some examples.

Above are links to my videos of my trip to Holland, Belgium, and Luxemburg.
Be sure to view them at 720p on Youtune, or they will not look that good.
The camera is the Canon HF s21.

I've tried to undo the action.
    How?
Please detail ALL you have done so far in the way of troubleshooting?   Need this info to avoid the been there done that scenarios.
it's the only copy of this video.
Where did you get the video from?
From the pic I noticed that the folder is 841.9mb.  What's inside?  Or what happens when you click on it?

I need to record a webinar; can that be done with imovie and if so, how?

If you want to record a Webinar, you will probably need screen capture software. Every recent Mac comes with QuickTime Player X, which will do this. Just click FIle/New Screen Recording. Then click on the red button to start recording.

Can I make a slides show with imovie (8,0,6). If so, how?

    Hi
    Yes and No
No - if Quality is important AND You want a DVD as result - no iMovie'08 to 11 can handle or export - Interlaced SD-Video to any DVD authoring program - When going from Event's to Project every second line in the Picture is lost and this will be a noticeable quality loss in the final DVD
    YES - If You don't want a DVD -
    • Just start a new Project
    • Import Photos from Media button / Photos
    • Insert transition of choice
    • Insert Audio at Your liking - I convert all to .aiff and not use any .mp3 or from iTunes directly (converted they work OK)
    If DVD - Then use
    • iMovie HD6 - or -
    • FinalCut any version
    • FotoMagico™
    • iDVD - BUT this is limited in several ways
    - max 99 photos per show
    - one transition possibly
    - audio - one audio tract (but this can be created outside iDVD to contain more than one tune
    Good Luck
    Yours Bengt W

  • HD camcorders that will work with imovie.

I am considering replacing my old Sony mini DV SD camcorder with a mid quality HD one. I read that there are problems with most of them on the apple website. Does anyone know which memorycard camcorder will work with imovie or do I have to go with an old HD DVtape one? It will be used mainly to video show jumping indoors. There are good discontinued Sony ones still available but I would prefer newer technology and it needs to be reasonably compact and light, but a step up from entry level.

This is a user to user forum. Think of it as asking for help from a neighbor. They will generally help if they can. You can ask your neighbor to borrow a cup of sugar. But don't get mad at your neighbor if they don't have any sugar.
The etiquette here is that generally people do not clutter up a thread with "I don't know" answers. The fact that I don't know doesn't mean that there isn't an answer, and when someone posts that answer, it makes it difficult to find if a bunch of people are chiming in with "I don't know."
If you have a problem that no one knows the answer to, usually the best thing is to contact Apple directly. There is a "Contact Us" link at the bottom right of this page. I don't know what support infrastructure Apple may have in your country, but you can find it at the contact us link.
    Good luck.

I'm interested to buy a Nikon photocamera Coolpix S8100.
This camera is NOT on Apple's list of supported cameras to use with iMovie 11. Nor is the camera Canon SD3500 as mentioned by you, I thought ...
Do you think I could use the Coolpix S8100 camera as well with iMovie 11 ?
    Or could I meet a problem ?
In my opinion, the camera will work with iMovie '11, HOWEVER....
I have a Canon SX30IS bridge camera [that is, not a camcorder], and the HD videos work absolutely fine on iMovie with one - for me - important problem.
As my camera is also not supported, when any number of short video files are loaded in together, iMovie will not understand the sequence they were taken in, and MAY load them in a fairly random order into a project.
This is not a problem where one or two files are concerned, but where there are more, it can be a major problem if you want them used in sequence.
You either have to load them into the project one by one, manually, or be able to identify clearly from the thumbnails which is which, or the order will be all wrong. It IS possible to relate what you see as a thumbnail back to the original file, but only one file at a time, so you can't use the thumbnails to work out the order, if the images shown don't do that for you.
I have used videos from 5 unsupported digital cameras, and even an 8mm cine conversion file quite successfully, so I have no doubt that the Nikon will also work.

  • What is the best file format to use with imovie?

I am relatively new to Mac and got it for music production, but more recently I have been messing around with video and a I have difficulty dealing with Mpeg and some other file types with imovie. My question is this, what file format will automatically import into imovie the way that iphoto imports from my camera? and if they aren’t recognised, what is the best file converter??

'best' is, what iMovie is intended for - straight from tape-based or AVCHD camcorder.
'best' in terms of most versatile and offering the 'best' format (=iM's own AppleIntermediateCodec) is free Mpeg Streamclip
only for convertiing mp2, such as non-copyprotected videoDVDs, you need the 20$ mp2-playback-component ......

  • Can you recommend a camcorder that is compatible with iMovie 08?

I looked at the list of compatible video camcorders with iMovie 08, but was wondering if anyone has a strong recommendation for a camcorder that is really working well. I'm ready to buy a new camcorder, but want to really avoid any
issues regarding conflicts with the software, etc...
Thanks for saving me a headache.

  • DKA790GX Platinum - What's the best card that will work with hybrid crossfire?

Hi everyone. I know this board is a bit old now but I've set it up for my kids to play oldish games and it occurred to me that video cards from that era might be inexpensive these days. What's the best possible card to use with the on-board card for its hybrid crossfire? Would it be better to just get a separate standalone card? If so what's the best that will work with this board? I'm completely out of the loop these days on tech and have no idea what will even be compatible anymore.

Good news! I resolved my graphics issues without buying a new card. It all came down to a little logic. It used to work just fine. The game it's installed off the same disc as before, and there us no noticeable change in the install media. The hardware has not changed unless there has been some sort of electrical damage I cannot see. I had however updated my drivers many times over the last few years, and always from the AMD website.
I installed the latest MSI drivers for my onboard graphics and voila, it works!
All graphical glitches are now gone, though it runs a but slower.
I may still buy a new card. I'm favouring the HD4870x2 as the top of my motherboard's era or the slightly newer HD5770 which some reviews say is equivalent in performance. The latter uses the same GPU and shaders as the 6770 and is considerably cheaper.
If I go with NVidia it seems the best card in my price range is the 440GT.
Thanks, everyone, for all the advice!
i'd say the 790GX chipset would run a saphire radeon HD5770 card fine i have 1 of them on a different maufactures board that uses the AMD 690GX chipset and i have put both my HD5770's in that with crossfire on and had no issues at all just to try it out!
and the AMD 690GX is a lower more old chipset then the one your board has so i wouldnt see any issues with the board not accepting the HD 5770 cards at all!
i like the saphire branded ones better as they run much cooler and quieter then a stock card!

  • Photo montage software that integrates well with iMovie and iPhoto?

    Hello,
I need to do more complex photo montages that what iPhoto slideshow and iMovie has to offer. Does anyone have any recommendations for a software that integrates with the iLife software easily so it's fairly seamless? I need to produce professional-quality photo montages (ideally using photos and video, but I can pull the video in with iMovie or FCE after I do the photo section if I need to do so).
    Thanks for your recommendations!

  • Best Digital Camera for use with iMovie 09

i'm purchasing an iMac next week and am looking for a digital camera, a major concern is video compatibility. I have found mostly just threads on problems, OKAY, so i know what NOT to get. But i would like to know what TO get. The camera i have found I like most is the Casio Exilim EX-S12bk, but it doesn't play well with iMovie due to the .AVI format it records to, the actual codec is motion jpeg i believe. I'm looking for something with optical zoom in recording mode, hi def video, and of course great photos. Very noobish to cameras so bells and whistles are not as important as usability. But i want to import straight to iMovie, i don't want to get freeware, no conversions, or anything. That's more work than i want to spend. Any help?

yeah, i've upped my dollar level to 380ish tops,
Sony, i've found that the only one i could really get would be the tx1 or wx1, but they don't come out till sept, and october, so too bad there, Or perhaps the Sony W290, that was an option, there was one thing i didn't like about it though, don't remember what it was, hmmm, otherwise i didn't see something i had to have
If i could wait, I think no doubt i would get the tx1 when it came out,
SOOO, I've settled on the Canon SD960, has all the features i believe i want. I was gonna go with the SD970, but the 960 is smaller and a tad cheaper. I was looking at the SD780 for some time, however, the picture quality came into ? as well as video quality. Haven't seen those complaints as far as video is concerned. Of course there are always gonna be naysayers. All the sample images i've seen look great, reviews seem to be good also. So for now, I think I'm going with the SD960.
Further, I was looking really close at the Lumix ZS3, as stated above, but it's too big for my liking, the whole Lumix line seems to be on the large size, compared to other compacts, especially the Sony cyber shot's which seem to be quite small in comparison with other brands. Overall though it seemed like a great camera.
Still not sure why i'm passing on the Sony W290......and am also VERY, tempted to wait altogether and get the WX1 or TX1, but i really don't want to wait, if i take great care of it, perhaps i can still return it after my trip !!! Walmart takes anything back if you say it *****.......
