  • Hands-on tutorial on 11i administrative activities

    Dear All,
I am a new entry Oracle Apps administration. I just finisihed with a successful install (11.5.10) on WIndows XP (SP2) platform.
However, although I spent almost 3 days on reading pdfs (downloaded from oracle.com) and other sources, I couldn't track cleanly about most frequent administrative activities needed (user/ responsibilities management, workflow setups, concurrent program management etc.).
What I desperately looking for now, are some URLs/ book names where I can find hands-on type of practices (like a lab manual showing a step-by-step procedures using screenshots) for implementing frequent admisitrative activities.
To name a few, I am interested in procedures like:
    1. how to add/ delete responsibilities to existing users
    2. how to use profiles?
    3. What is the use of standard concurrent programs provided with apps?
    4. How to setup workflows (with some practical example)?
    etc..
    Thanks,
    Irfan Ilyas

    Thanks for the links.
But as I mentioned in my first message, I had already gone through the following pdfs provided on oracle.com:
    1.Oracle Applications System Administrator's Guide - Security
    2. Oracle Applications System Administrator's Guide - Maintenance
3.Oracle Applications System Administrator's Guide - Configuration (zipped)
The pdfs covered the concepts and other configuration details in depth without providing a lab manual type of description. I mean, i need a step-by-step procedures with screenshots explaining 'how to accomplish a practical task (say, schedule a concurrent program, create a new user etc.).
[Just to name an instance, chapter 2 of 'Maintenance  guide' doesn't implement any practical scenario in terms of concurrent program usage]
What I need is something similar to programming books discussing programming code with a real-life touch (for example, creating a program for a fictitious company and explaining it line by line with screenshots of output results etc.).
I hope you got what I am looking for.
    Irfan

  • Does OEM 12c supports for performing administration tasks on Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.5 environment ??

    Hello Everyone,
I would like to start a discussion on the OEM 12c see if anyone has used for SOA Suite 10g. We are currently running on Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.5 we want to make use of OEM 12c for monitoring and perform administration activities. I have gone through some Oracle documents for OEM 12c,I found it's supported up to 10.1.3.4.However I am not so sure so I just wanted to clarify on this.
Can we install the client in  Oracle Application Server/SOA OC4J  container to perform any administration task, purging, patching, monitor interfaces etc.
I look forward to your valuable input and feedback on the discussion.
    Best Regards,

    Hi,
The zip p6511843_101330_Generic.zip contains a README.txt which explains the steps to be followed to apply this patch.
    In the README.txt
    Refer to Section2 point No.1.
Get the latest Opatch from metalink for bug 2617419.[this zip will contain a Opatch Directory].Extract this zip into your Oracle SOA home.[ex: C:/product/101.3.1/OracleAS_1]
Also make sure that the Opatch directory in set in the path.
Since we are running this Opatch on a Basic SOA installtion , you don't have to execute the changeNamesWindows.pl script[make sure that you have installed Basic version of SOA and not the Advanced].
This patch will not work on Advanced Install.
    You can directly excute
    opatch apply.
Follow the remaining steps mentioned in README.txt.
    Thanks

    Dears,
I am Basis Consultant and planning to learn portal Administration.
So I want to know what are daliy portal Support activities from admin prospective.
    Please suggest.
    Deepak

It depends on portal to portal.
I can tell you some importan activities
    1) Transport activities like pcd content transport, KM transport, System Config transport, transport of par, ear files... ..
    2) user Administration activities like creating users/groups and assigning these to roles etc...
    3) Integration with SAP Applications like R3, BW etc....
    4) checking proper permissions in pcd content and KM content if exists
    5) Portal mointoring activities like checking the logs in NWA, you can also use portal activity report iviews for monitoring.
Go for EP100, EP200 trainining which is useful for portal system administration.

  • Solution Manager Change Management: Transport Request Administration

    Hi.
We want to use the CHARM functionality of Solution Manager to improve our transport operations. We have several customers and expend´s a lot of time making tranports to different systems.
I don want to activate CHARM completely. Which activities do i must perform, and which activities do i must leave ?
    Regards
    Alvaro

    Hi Avinash
This is the Business Scenario: Our company is using SAP Solution Manager to perform monitoring and administration activities for over than 30 customers.
Dayly we espend over 85% of the basis team time making transport for all of the customers. We decide to set some internal politics to bundle transports, stablishing several releases of them, at specific hours of the day. So we want to use SOLMAN`S change logistics instead of CHARM Scenario to control and improve this activitiy, releasing time to perform other activities.

  • SSAA - System Administration Assistant

    Hello ,
Can any one give some information on T-Code SSAA. We want to do a quick monitoring of our process chains, i know that RSPCM will do he job but we also want to know the start time and the end time of each and every process chain, at the same time we dont want to waste or put more time on this alone.
Also if any one can explain about the T-Code RZ20 as well,
points assured for all relevant answers.
Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Hello Lalitha,
    SAP Processing Monitorization Checklist
Administrative personnel proactively monitor the system to identify processing errors and/or issues.
Understand the procedures in place and tools used to proactively monitor the system to identify processing errors and/or issues (i.e. BMC-Patrol, home-grown systems, Control/M, etc.)  Ensure that the scheduled daily tasks checklist includes the following:
-Run transaction SM51 and check that all servers are up
-Run transaction RZ20 and check the CCMS alert monitor for alerts
-Run transaction SM50 and ensure that all work processes have a “running” or “waiting” status
-Run transaction SM13 and look for any failed updates.  Check for lines with “Err”.
-Run transaction SM21 and check the system log.  Check for:  errors, warnings, security messages, abends, database problems, and any other different events.
-Run transaction SM12 and check for “old” locks.  Check for entries from prior days.
-Run transactions SM04 and AL08 and review for any unknown or different user IDs and terminals.
-Run transaction ST22 and review and resolve dumps.  Look for excessive numbers of dumps and look for dumps of an usual number.
-Run transaction ST03 and review workload statistics.
-Run transaction ST02 and review buffer statistics.  Look for swaps.
-Run transactions AL02 and ST04 and review error log for problems.
Alternatively, administrators may execute transaction code SSAA (R/3 Administrative Activities), rather than executing all of the above transaction codes individually.
If CCMS is not used, determine the tools used to proactively monitor the system.  Ensure that the tool is used effectively and that the tasks outlined above are monitored.
RZ20 or CCMS is a Central Monitor tool for monitoring  the entire system landscape. We can create Alert to monitor specific devation of the system behaviour.

  • HOW I WAS ABLE TO GET ORACLE/LINUX RUNNING

Just like some (or should I say most) of you, it took me pains
(one week at that) to get 8i EE running on Linux.
Here is how I was able to get it up and running:
    Environment:
    * RedHat 6.0
    * Linux kernel 2.2.12
    * Blackdown JRE (not JDK) 1.1.6v5
    * Mem: 128MB
Create the linux account 'oracle' and make the account a member
of the 'dba' group. The 8i docs contradicts itself saying that
'oracle' should be a member of the 'oinstall' group in one place,
but later on says that 'oracle' should be a member of the 'dba'
group in other places. (In the 8.0.5 installation, 'oracle' is a
member of the 'dba' group, so just follow this tradition).
I have 2 linux machines. Because the machine where I am
installing 8i has several other purposes, I ran X on another
machine and have the OUI display on that other machine, but the
OUI ran on the machine where I installed 8i.
From the host running X, I set "xhost +182.212.1.32" (this is
the IP address of the host where I am installing 8i), telnetted
to the host where 8i will be installed, logged in as 'oracle',
did a 'su', mounted the CDROM, exited from root (thereby going
    back to the oracle account), did a "DISPLAY=182.212.1.200:0.0;
export DISPLAY", "cd /mnt/cdrom", and then did ran the installer
    "./runInstaller".
If you did not make 'oracle' a member of 'dba', OUI will say "You
are not a member of the 'dba' group.... blah ...." and will ask
you the linux group for OSDBA and OSOPER.
If you DID make 'oracle' a member of the 'dba' group, you will
not get this prompt at all, and you will be asked to specify the
linux group that will be responsible for installing/upgrading
oracle. Specify the group 'oinstall' in this prompt. Basically,
this prompt will 'chgrp oinstall' the directory
    '$ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory'.
Cotinue with the installation. You will be prompted to run a
script under the /tmp/oracle/oraInstroot.sh directory as root.
Continuing, I specifed a custom install. After almost completing
the installation, you will be prompted to run the 'root.sh' under
$ORACLE_HOME as root. Note that this script is not executable, so
    either "chmod 744 root.sh;./root.sh" or "sh ./root.sh".
At this point, db config assistant will run, but gave me an
exception, something like "JNLSException: No character sets
found." This error was not fatal as it did allowed me to
continue. (Note that I tried setting ORA_NLS33 and NLS_LANG, but
I still had this exception. However, I have not tried downloading
i18n-1.1.6-v5-glibc-x86.tar.bz2 from blackdown. But I do not know
if that will help.). I did not continue with dbassist but exited,
and exited OUI. The reason was that, after telling dbassist to
save to scripts, it cannot even save the scripts!!
Now run dbassist again ("cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin; ./dbassit"). You
will again get the message "JNSLException: No characters found".
I specified an OLTP database. Later on, you will be asked if you
want to use shared server processes (MTS) or dedicated server
processes. At this point, specify dedicated server processes.
(Note: this is important. More on this later).
The SYSTEM datafile need not be initially 175MB. I had mine set
    to 75MB.
When prompted if you want to create the db now or save to
scripts, specify save to scripts, and exit dbassist.
Now "cd $ORACLE_HOME/install". The main script (which is
sqlSID.sh --- replace SID with the value of ORACLE_SID), will
    simply run other scripts.
Instead of running the main script, run each of the scripts
(that the main scripts was supposed to call) manually in the
order specified by the main scripts. This will help you later on
point out the specific script which may have problems.
The first script will start the instance and create the
    database.
    Run that first script.
Now here lies the importance of specifying "dedicated server
processes" instead of "shared server processes". If you specified
"dedicated server processes", the db should now be created, and
the script will exit without errors. If you specified "shared
server processes (MTS)", the instance will be mounted but you
will get the message "ORA-01012: not logged on". The db will
therefore not be created. I believe the following quote from the
docs (not included with the linux 8i EE CD, but included
witht he nt 8i EE CD) says it all:
    =================================================================
    ===========
Restricted Operations of the Multi-Threaded Server
Certain administrative activities cannot be performed while
    connected to a
dispatcher process, including shutting down or starting an
    instance and
media recovery. An error message is issued if you attempt to
    perform these
activities while connected to a dispatcher process.
These activities are typically performed when connected with
    administrator
privileges. When you want to connect with administrator
    privileges in a
system configured with multi-threaded servers, you must state in
    your connect
string that you want to use a dedicated server process
(SRVR=DEDICATED) instead of a dispatcher process.
    Additional Information:
    See your Oracle operating-system-specific
    documentation or the Net8
Administrator's Guide for the proper connect
    string syntax.
    =================================================================
    =========
From the above, you should be able to create a db using "shared
server processes (MTS)" from scratch (instead of creating a db
using "dedicated server process" and then later on changing to
MTS), by modifying your tnsnames.ora file. However, I have not
    done this.
Now run the remaining scripts that the main script was supposed
to call. The only other problem I had with the scripts was the
last script (the one with SIDjava.sh). I had a problem with the
redo logs, and I got an "end of communication error" in the
middle of the execution of the last script. I have to run this
last script twice to make sure it worked.
I believe the reason for the problem with the last script was
related to what I found out later on, that all the rollback
segments were OFFLINE (except that rbs in SYSTEM)!!!
So probably it is best that, after running the first script, take
the rollback segments online, before continuing with the other
    scripts.
After running the scripts and the database created, I then
applied te 8.1.5.0.1 patch, shutting down the database first.
    (Run svrmgrl, connect internal, shutdown;)
However, after applying the patch, and starting the database
again, I still get 8.1.5.0.0 and not 8.1.5.0.1 when loggin
in using sqlplus or svrmgrl. Maybe the patch should be applied
    first BEFORE creating the db???
Okay, now I have it running for 3 days now. However, I get this
    error in my alert files:
    OER 536879337 in Load Indicator : Error Code = 570716328 !
... when the instance is mounted, and
Load Indicator not supported by OS
    .... several times.
I have not been able to solve these remaining issues.

  • A few questions regarding the configuration of Adobe Document Services

<u><i>For Your Information: the main questions are repeated at the end of this post.</i></u>
The Adobe Document Services seems to work fine. The test I did on http://<server>:<port>/AdobeDocumentServices/Config gives the error
' "Required stream: "PDFDocument" not found.” ' so that's fine.
But when I do this: http://server:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/TutWD_OnlineInteractiveForm/OnlineInteractiveFormApp
The result: the PDF is shown and I can enter text in the textboxes and also use the radioboxes.
But I can't use the dropdownboxes, neither can I use the "submit" and "check" buttons..
Is this normal? Or is it because of the ReaderRights credential?
Or is it necessary to install the ACF?
Here is some info I got from a blog:
    "<b>Client Side Requirements</b>
Follow the steps mentioned below. Please make sure the following prerequisites are met before working with Adobe Interactive Forms.
    NWDS 7.0 / 6.0
    Adobe Live cycle designer 7.1 / 7.0
    Adobe Reader 7.0.8 [ Minimum : 7.0.1]
    <b>End User Requirements</b>
    Adobe Reader 7.0.8 [ Minimum : 7.0.1]
Active Component Framework (ACF) - SPS 9, SPS 10"
    Two more questions;
1)This info is in the config guide:
"If you have installed the ADS and the WD runtime environment on different J2EE engines and if the communication between these engines uses the SLD, you need to publish the ADS to the SLD."
Does this mean that I don't need to do this when I haven't used SLD? Or is it necessary to install SLD?
    Some more info:
    Prerequisites:
A System Landscape Dir must already have been configured.
If you have not yet done so, perform the necessary activities according to the documentation SAP System Landscape Directory, Administrative Activities section, chapters:
Start and stop the SLD Service
    Configure the SLD Server
    Configure data persistence
Make settings for the SLD bridge
You can find this documentation by calling the following URL in your web
    browser: http://<host>:<port>/sld
When I check this URL, I don't see anything concerning an (already configured) SLD.
    2) Do I need the license below too to develop in AIF?

    Main questions----
I need to create a form with a few fields (of which some fields are mandatory); then I have to use a few BAPI's to check these fields and to save the content in a CRM system.
I've installed Netweaver Sneak Preview, and configured Adobe Document Services (made ADSUser & ADSCaller, set IIOP etc to Autostart, Installed the credentials). The tests seem to work fine, but I haven't developed anything yet.
    My questions:
1)Is it necessary to install the ACF?
2)Is it necessary to install Adobe LifeCycle Designer?
    3)Also SLD?
    4)Also the license described above?

    No one?
Some questions are answered by someone else.
-The SLD is okay, it doesn't need to be configured
-The Adobe Lifecycle Designer is automatically installed when installing the Netweaver Studio Sneak Preview SP16
    Just two more questions:
    1)when I open http://server:port/webdynpro/dispatcher/local/TutWD_OnlineInteractiveForm/OnlineInteractiveFormApp
The PDF is shown but I can't use the buttons or the dropdown boxes.
I tried to install ACF but I have NW04s SP16, and the ACF is only SP11.
So when I install that, it only shows a blue screen with "I am the placeholder control"
When I install ACF SP19 for NW04, the PDF shows again, but I still can't use the buttons or dropdowns. Is this normal?

  • Recomend a lightweight X file manager?

As much as I like using the terminal for much of my administrative activities, I would like a lightweight norton commander like file manager for x.  It would be nice if an arch package existed for it as well, although this is not a requirement.

  • Query regarding replication process in oracle 8i

While replicating the master database I need some data. For that I stopped the replication process but in that time the application using the master database was not able to modify the database content because stopping of replication process put the master definition in read only mode.
So my query is Does oracle 8i puts the master definition site in read only mode if someone stops the replication ? If yes then is there any way to avoid this?
    Thanks

    Hi
First of all why you are using so much old version (oracle 8i).
when we have synchronous oracle database replication (multi master replication) then before saving our transaction at source site it will communication at all the oracle database server by using database link if at one site it find any link breakage then it will not save transaction at the source site and that transaction will ber rollback. ( Mean in synchronous replication your database link will be up any all time. This method is used where there are heavy network resource or they have replication on LAN.
In Relication 90% people use Asynchronous replication
In asynchronous replication if database link become down then our transaction become pending in the queue when link become resoted then transaction are pushed one by one in the fifo (First in First our).to their destination site to all other master or master definition sites.
    Second
When we stopp replication there are two methods to stop the replication
Method A is quised the replication group at master definition site. When you quised replication group then your all tables present in that replication becomes read only you can not perform DML statment on that tables at all sites. and it is only perform by DBA to perform some administration activities like include new table in a group or regererate replication support of existing tables.or add new replication site.
Method B we totally sotpped replication that now our this server will not be in replication further. for this we use store procedure. like this
    connect repadmin/repadmin@hr
    SQL> Execute DBMS_REPUTIL.REPLICATION_OFF;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
If you wants to again continue replication at that server. after connection wtih replication administrator apply the following command
    SQL> Execute DBMS_REPUTIL.REPLICATION_ON;
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
For further problem you can contact me any time

    1) XI basis (Administration)
    Activites are:
    1) XI installation
    2) Configuration activitie
    3) Post installation checks
    4) SLD configuration
    5) Create Users,
    6) Role assignments.
    And many more
    2) XI Implementation and development.
Under the development you have two parts Integration repository which is desing part which involves small amount of Java knowledge whenever your requirement is not fulfilled by standard SAP XI function.
    and integration Configuration:
This is very simple stpes once your design is over.Based on your requirement you have to use the standard adapter provided by SAP for example if file is coming then u will go for File adapter,if IDOC is psoted to R3 then you go for IDOC adapter, communication with remote client u go for SOAP adapter.
    XI Project lifecycle:
    1) Blue printing phase (Design phase).
    2) Build phase (Development)
    3) Integration testing
    4) Project go live
    5) Support.
    Now coming to ur question.
XI Developers role and responsibilities are:
    •     Analysis of the Functional Specifications which is received from Function people.
    •      Understanding the processes related to the third party non SAP and SAP systems.
    •     Raise issue log for the business requirement which is not understood from functional spec.
    •     Prepare Technical Specification Document,
    •     Do the development: now developer has to do the coding which either involved java,XSLT,abap mapping.
    •     Prepare the UTC
    •     Reviewing Interface Technical Specifications and Unit Test Document, Interface build and Unit Test, Self and peer review of the deliverables, develop Interface Object via Design and Configuration.
    •     Project golive and give support and do bug fixing, change request n all.
hopw u got the prefect workflow.

  • Application Builder problem on one server but not another

I am having an Application Builder problem. When I get into App Express and go inside the builder and try to edit a listed application, I get an “http 404 the page cannot be found. The page might have had its name changed or is temporarily unavailable” situation. I can get into SQL commands, utilities, and administrative activities. I can also run the application. Also, if I go onto a different server with App Express on it, I can get into the builder and edit applications with no trouble. Our DBA had the server in question rebooted a little over a week ago and that took care of the problem for a couple days. Any ideas? Is this an Express problem or a server problem? He had also tried restarting Express before he had the reboot done and that didn’t help.
    Thank you for any help.
    Cordially,
    Robert J. Smith

I have messages from the Apache error log files from the dates I was getting the builder error. For future reference, I will post them below. The builder has been working fine lately.
