Blinking Icons

Hello to all,
I know there is animated gif support in swings, but I have an question.
Imagine, java application, communicating throug corba ( 1 tink 12 Threads used for his coomunication:) splitted pane, with treem where each leaf has its onw animated gif, 2. pane static pane, without something extra ( some controls using observre observable pattern to update its content )south pane, own list pane, containing 1 list and one JTable derived component, which should be updated with datas, which are send by server to client ( approx 1500 items/min into this table ), and the last on, North pane containing some JButton derived components (aprox 50 ) which also has animated gif on it.
So this is fully quilified client :), but at this time we are not using any blinking icons because I think its impossible ( when tree is opened there is 100 of leafs, which has its own icons, and these icons, shlud be animated :( ( I think it is a worth solution I've seen in my life, but product management need it, so it should be done. ISO halleluja :( )
I want to ask us, that is is good solution to make my thread for icns, and instead of animated gifs use some number of static gifs, and animation do with my thread. I think there will be synchronization problems with AWT thread, but nobody knows, maybe somebody met this problem also.
Thank you for answers.
regards
Adrian.

I'm not sure what all that was about, but I think you just want to animate the icons in a JTree, correct?

• Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 blinking icon in taskbar not working properly

         Hi,
         We're experiencing a strange behaviour. Lync IM notifications are supposed to work this way below:
         1) Notification bubble on the right-bottom corner
         2) After a few seconds, a blinking icon in the task bar
         3) After a few seconds, a coloured icon remains in the task bar
         Some of our users, both Lync 2010 and Lync 2013, go 1) and 2) but then icon won't remain in the task bar, so they don't realize they have a conversation waiting (Windows XP and Windows 7).
         If they open the icon, the conversation is there and coloured, and they can answer.
         In my computer, it has also happened but most of the time it works fine (testing it, maybe it works 15 times and fails 1). Nevertheless, a lot of people is suffering from this strange behaviour.
         We have looked into the causes but haven't found anything.
         Any clue?
         Thanks!

How long have you seen the problem?
What version of your Lync client? Try to update your Lync client to the latest version.
Try to repair office 2013.
Uninstall and reinstall Lync 2010.
Please install Lync 2013 or Lync 2010 on a fresh installation of Window to check if you can still see this problem.

1. Use code tags to post codes --
CODE
will display asCODEOr click the CODE button and paste your code between the {code} tags that appear.
2. A renderer is just a "rubber stamp" used to paint on the table/tree/list/whatever. You can't display animation in an ImageIcon by setting it to a renderer. Since the JLabel subclass used as the renderer isn't a part of any visible component hierarchy, the icon won't be refreshed with new frames.

• Blinking icon mark question :-(

Hi, my computer show this icon with a mark question blinking before the startup, then I shut it down from the power bottom and then it makes the startup normally. What suggest me.

When you say you tried fsck and 'nothing', do you mean you ran fsck in single-use rmode and it reported no problems, or that it didn't help? Have you tried running Disk Utility> Repair Disk from the Installer menu after booting from your OS X Install disc? (That gives somewhat more descriptive messages than fsck). You can also reset PRAM by restarting, then immediately after the screen goes dark, hold down command-option-p-r until you hear three sets of chimes, then release the keys. That will reset the startup disk to the hard drive, overriding any possiblly corrupted System Preferences settings.
Does the 'blinking icon with a mark question blinking before the startup' referred to in your first post occur when you try to restart via the command under the Apple menu or does this occur first time you try to start up from being turned off?

• Blinking icons/texts/windows while AE4 is running

Hello all.
I have some weird problem. When i open After  Effects CS4, icons, other programs and After Effects of course starts to  blink, lag and so so. When After Effects isn't running, everything  works fine. At first i thought that this is a OS problem, so after ~2  months i bought new HDD and formated it, installed Windows XP SP3,  installed After Effects CS4, but problem didn't dissapear.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS6749ID0Zc
*These warnings are from wrongly installed cycore HD.
I've  asked on my country hardware forums, they said that it's a GPU problem  and my videocard going to die in one month, but i'm still living with  this problem for three months. However, i think it's not GPU problem,  because that problem appears to be only in After Effects. And if it is  GPU problem, is this possible to fix it? I also tried to install Trial version.
* Sorry for my bad english.

However, i think it's not GPU problem
Trust your hardware geeks - it is. The only question is whether it is a driver problem or a genuine hardware problem, but I, too would lean toward the latter. Such blips are typical of defective or overheating graphics chips or the peripheral equipment. In essence it is constantly crashing your graphics chip and trying to catch these errors by reinitializing it. This may not be the card itself, but a bad PCI slot or one of those tiny resistors on teh motherboard losing contact when it gets warm, causing voltage variations that your card can't handle. could even be a hairline fracture in one of the electric lanes... In any case, it will probably not be fixable short of buying a new motehrboard and graphics card...

• Blinking Icon and Nonresponsive Screen

Hey,
So I had shut down my Macbook Pro and restarted it, and then the problems started happening.
The top bar (the bar with the Airport icon, the battery icon, the search tool, etc) would be there for 5 seconds, disappear, and reappear. And it would be unresponsive to clicks.
The Macintosh HD icon is THE ONLY icon that shows up and it does the same, show up, disappear, reappear thing.
The dock is frozen. And unresponsive.
I called Apple and they said that Leopard would have to be reinstalled, but in the meantime, I could log onto my other user (since it was a user-specific issue) and use the basic programs there but no data.
I won't be able to get the computer store until later on next week--any suggestions for what I can do and/or how to get my music/documents back onto this user account? I have some stuff backed up but short of re-transferring my entire iTunes library, is there anything else I can do?

May be an issue with it but try holding menu and up key on teh remote TOGETHER for 6 secs in case it's selecting an incorrect video mode - that option will cycle video modes.  Check HDMI connection to display is not loose at either end.

• I just bought two ibooks. they power up but all the screen will display is a little folder that blinks icons but thats all i have two disks for software installation and software restore but all it does is that folder thingie. please help.

Please help. Is there any other way to reset to factory settings without the disks.

You need the original installation disks specific for each machine or compatible Mac OS X retail disks which you can buy on eBay or from several dealers.
To see which OS X you can use go to thse links and look up the specs on your iBooks.

• How to blink/update titlebar icon - without show()?

Hello,
I'm writing a Swing application which, when certain events occur, should display a blinking icon in the title bar.
I am using a TimerTask to change the icon, something like:
class BlinkIcon extends TimerTask {
boolean iconOn = false;
public void run() {
if (iconOn) {
frame.setIconImage(imageOn);
iconOn = false;
frame.setTitle("ON");
} else {
frame.setIconImage(iconOff);
frame.setTitle("OFF");
iconOn = true;
The problem is that, with the code above, only the text title of the window (JFrame) changes. The icon doesn't.
However, if I issue a frame.show() after changing the icon, the icon changes. But show() has the undesired effect of bringing the window on top.
Can someone else recommend a solution? Is there something else that I could use instead of show()?
Thank you!

Strange...tried this on one of my apps and it works with no problem. Running in Win 2K.
I'm wondering if you are running into problems due to the fact that most Swing components are not thread-safe, meaning that methods that cause a change in appearance to swing components should never be called outside the Swing Dispatch Thread. (The Timer class runs any scheduled TimerTask in its own thread.)
Have you tried moving your setTitle() and setIconImage() calls into a Runnable and scheduling that using javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater() in your TimerTask, rather than calling setTitle() and setIconImage() directly in your TimerTask?

• My LG Lucid was dead yesterday and wouldnt charge. This morning the icons on the bottom of phone are blinking. Has anyone had this issue?

On Monday night the phone was fully charged. I shut it down when going to bed but did not plug in charger. Tues morning the phone would not turn back on and would not charge with any charger or outlet. I kept it plugged in overnight tuesday.... Wednesday morning I tried to turn it on and the icons on the bottom of the phone blink but phone doesnt turn on. What's going on here? i've had the phone less than two months!!

The blinking icons mean, the battery is too low to allow the device to power up. That seems to suggest to me your cable is OK, and so is the adapter (and outlet).
OK, I think the thing to try now is a replacement battery.
It might be that your battery just failed. Since your device is so new, you might want to go into a local store and ask if they can replace the battery, or get something off eBay or Amazon.
If you go to a Verizon Store to ask to have a new battery (more preferrable) have them verify operation in the store before you leave with the cable and adapter you have, but with the new battery. With a really depleated battery, that might take 10 or 20 minutes.
If another battery doesn't work, then it's probably the phone, and you'll need to have it serviced or replaced under warranty.

• Blinking World Icon (on start)

picked my iMac 27" up from local Apple store after having Genius' run diagnostics (due to a continuously running fan). Now when i start the computer a grey screen shows (2min), then a blinking icon of the World (3min), only to load the desktop after 5 minutes. What is happening?

Restart the machine holding down the Option key.  When the boot manager comes up, select your internal Hard drive.  It should boot as normal.  After that on subsequent reboots, it should find the drive and boot up quickly.

• I am getting a blinking folder with question mark when I boot my computer, what does this mean?

This morning when I turned on my laptop, it made a weird ticking noise and now all I can get is a blinking icon that looks like a manilla folder with a question mark.

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
With 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, 10.8 Mountain Lion or 10.9 Mavericks, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is, then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions. After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

• Blinking globe when start up?

this usually doesnt happen but lately when i start up my mac a blinking globe appears for about 1 min. then goes away?

roam,
The OP's problem is similar but not the same as the previous topic you allude to. The OP has a Network blinking icon and not a flashing question mark on a folder.
Just wanted to clarify. Similar troubleshooting but this is a seperate issue from what was posted in the other topic.

• Gray screen with little folder icon in the middle

Hello everybody!
I´m a rookie in terms of mac and last year I dicided to buy a mini g4. It was working great until one day I decided to plug in the network cord while the mini was booting. Well, now all i´ve been getting is a gray screen with a smal blinking Icon of a folder with an interrogation point alternating with the mac os logo (that smiling face). I out the OS cd in and didn´t work. I wouldn´t start from it neither eject my cd. I´ve tried to reset the npvram and also zip. What do I do?
do you have any idea? plaese help me

I've done both, starting from Install Disk holding down C and starting up holding down option while the startup disk is in the machine. All I get is the smiling logo folder that does nothing, or the Firmware Password screen - even though I not anyone else has ever set a Firmware PW. Help!?

• Ibook g3 can't get passed blinking question mark

I recently was given a ibook g3 dual usb because the previous owner could not get the system to startup. I first assumed the OS/HDD had failed I attempted to book from a retail tiger cd and would not boot from that either I have tried Panther/Tiger and even a OS 9.04 retail disk and no matter what the system is stuck at the blanking question mark. I have held down the Option key and the internal drive and CD do appear but when I select either of them the system just goes to the blinking icon. In Open firmware I able to browse the files on both the HDD and CD. I have also tried setting the boot-device to hd:,\\:tbxi, cd:,\\:tbxi, hd:,\System\Library\CoreServices\BootX, cd:,\System\Library\CoreServices\BootX, and the case of OS9 hd:,\System%20Folder\Mac%20OS%20ROM. I have run out of ideas so any other ideas will be useful thanks

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Apple's suggestions for dealing with the flashing question mark can be found here:

Resetting the PRAM may help.

• N96 persistent SMS blinking alert

Hi folks, first of all sorry about my english, i'm not native
Ok, i got a brand new Nokia N96 few days ago. I've already set it up and everything is working fine, except one thing: I have a permanent SMS blinking icon on the upper-right corner of the screen, next to battery info. That would be normal if I had some unread SMS/MMS, but I have re-checked it many times and there is no such message anywhere (or i'm not able to find it), and the warning is still there since the first power-up. I thought that it could be "My Nokia"'s fault, since that service automatically sends me tips and advices every while via SMS, but I disabled it, and deleted every SMS i got from them too. Anyway, the icon doesn't dissapear, and it's really annoying. Does anybody know how to fix that?
Thanks in advance, nice forum!
