BO 4 Publication Failure

Hello,
We are trying to use publication of WEBI report with dynamic recipient list. Both the published report and the recipient list are built upon Bex Query.
When we schedule the publication it fails with the error:

Can you let me know what is the patch level of the BI 4.0 server?
If the source report is scheduled individually does it succeed, can it be viewed on demand?

suggests that the Email destination plugin is not configured correctly on the Publication Job Server, can you check that please.

it is known issue. When you steup ADCS cluster and when you renew CA certificate with new key pair, first CRL should be published manually. This can be done by running "certutil -dspublish -f crlfilename.crl". this will create new entry under cluster resource
name and after this CA server will be able to publish files there.
And do not forget that all CAs in the cluster must have write permissions on cluster resource name container under CDP container.

Failure of a single article prevents the distribution of all articles in a publication to a subscriber

We have a SQL Server 2012 R2 SP2 environment and Transactional Replication configured with 1 instance publishing all tables in a database via a single publication (circa 150 articles in the one publication). We have a separate distribution instance,
and a third subscription instance. All articles in the publication are configured to copy all data, with no advanced filtering configured. It is also noted that Alerts were not configured in Replication Monitor.
We had an issue whereby, inexplicably, a table on the subscriber vanished (I use this term because I could not find any record in the log file of a DELETE statement being issued against that table - regrettably I wasn't in the position to query the distribution
database for any such commands either).
In Replication monitor we saw that the article for the table in question was failing, but no others.
The issue was that no other articles were being replicated to the subscriber, and this was evident via stalled rowcounts on the subscriber database, but increasing rowcounts on the publishing database.
When we removed the offending article from the publication, all other articles started getting applied to the subscriber database - and we could observe both publication and subscription rowcounts increasing in lockstep.
My questions are:
1) in a single publication with many articles, are the articles applied to the subscription in a single batch - meaning that if a discreet transaction for one article fails, that all other articles will be rolled back with this transaction until it
is cleared.
2) Why would Replication Monitor not start showing widespread warnings for every other table (article) that was not successfully being replicated to the subscriber?
3) Aside from configuring alerts in Replication Monitor (which has happened already) and a bespoke rowcount checking 'monitor', how could Transactional Replication be configured so that the failure of the publication of an obscure article doesn't fail all
articles --> I note that creating multiple publications with smaller number of articles would limit the exposure, but from what I've observed, this would only limit the exposure to those articles in the same publication.

1) they could be - it all depends on the batch size.
2) I suspect because the distribution agent applies the changes serially, ie one article after another in the order the changes occurred on the publisher. So if it fails on one table it will not continue until this error is leared.
3) use the continue on data consistency error profile, or put your problem article in its own publication.

Publication using "one database fetch for all recepients" is a failure

I have created a Publication in *CMC* with Crystal Reports as Source Document. When I schedule it with option " One database fetch per recipient" it is a Success. But while using the option "One database fetch for all recipients" it is a Failure.
I tried this with Personalization value Parameter as well as Filter. But both combinations throw an error message when used with Reporting Bursting Method "One database fetch for all recipients".
Anybody who has worked with Publication please let me know in which scenario one can use the Advanced setting:

The method I use is to put the connection script in a file outside the web root. Although the file has the same name on both the local and remote servers, the details are specific to that particular connection. Then each page in the website has the following PHP script.
require_once '../outside_folder/.db.php';
This method is also more secure than including the connection details inside the web root. Also note that the file name begins with a period and ends with the php extension, both for added security.

Failure while scheduling publications with CR in BO XI3.1

We have installed BO XI3.1 on windows server 2003 R2 SP2, with weblogic 9.2 application server and have configure to SSO for windows AD users. While scheduling publications it throws up the following error, however this error is not consistent, it happens once in 3 days.

The SIA, all server, including the windows server was re-started, but this error still pops up.

We are seeing alot of these - using the 'retry' option when scheduling gets the Publication to finish successfully - the log however is full of these messages.

Upload has failed. Network failure

Hello.
Since i work with indesign cc, i have a trouble wit folio builder panel: Everytime the upload fails at first attempt, it appears this message:"Upload has failed. Network failure." Ever works when i retried, but not at first attempts. This is unworkable with large publications, with a lot of articles. I´ve wrote that this is a trouble with the acrobat.com service outage, i need a solution.

Was successfully re-linking indesign files to my dps producer dashboard. Files had been converted to CC (from CS6)-- and was switching from v26 to v 28. Everything was working just FINE, until about 6pm yesterday-- I had re-linked almost 3/4ths of my files, then I began getting the NETWORK FAILURE notice.
This morning, I tried creating a new folio-- managed to upload ONE new file into the new folio, then got the same 'network failure' message on the next one I tried to upload.
These files are from a successful app-- already in the app store, but it sure doesn't work right now! IOS 7 ... #!#*?
It is not about where your files are-- or how much memory -- Something else is going on.
I know you guys will figure it out...and will be standing by, anxious to fix my app!

XI R3.1 publication success / fail notifications not sent

I have a set of 3 publications created and working fine in R3.1 (EDGE), each of which distributes a report to a UNC fileshare location. Upon success or failure, each is configured to send an email notification to an admin.
The publications work and distribute the reports fine, but 1 of the 3 email notifications will sporadically fail (not an explicit failure, but the notification email is not sent), and I do not see any errors captured for the recurrence itself nor in the publication log - everything indicates success. To add to this, it is seemingly random which one of the 3 notifications is not be sent - I don't see any pattern.
All 3 publications finish at nearly the same time, so I'm wondering if there is some sort of SMTP block going on that cannot be captured within the BOBJ layer? We only have a single job server that these destinations are processed through, and the SMTP destination is enabled and configured fine.
Has anybody come across anything like this? Any thoughts on what the root cause may be?

Can create 52 publication, but creating 53rd leads to problems

My apologies in advance for a long post, but I was really trying to make sure I do my due diligence before turning to the community for help, so here it goes.
I am working on a proof of concept with the purpose of using transactional replication to maintain a "reporting" copy of our databases.
The setup will include a "Publisher" server and a separate "Subscriber" server. The replication will be a "Pull" transactional replication with a distributor running on the Subscriber server. Once again: Publisher =>
pull => (Distributor + Subscriber)
We expect to have a lot of databases on each of our servers, so, in order to mimic this scenario, I restored 100 databases (about 1 GB each) on
the publisher. All of the databases are identical.
I wrote a script, which enables me to setup replication in an automated fashion (since obviously I don't want to do it manually dozens of times).
The script performs the following steps:
1. Enable replication for a database (if not enabled already):
2. Create logreader agent for a database
3. Create publication for a database (if doesn't exist)
4. Create snapshot agent for a database (don't run it yet)
5. Add articles to the publication
6. Run snapshot agent job (and wait for it to finish)
7. Create subscription database (if it doesn't exist)
8. Add subscription in the subscription database (if it doesn't exist)
9. Create distribution agent
I am able to successfully setup replication for about 52 of my databases and everything is running fine.
When I get to #53 things start to go wrong. The snapshot creation is successful, but the logreader and the distribution agents fail. Moving on to #54 everything is now completely broken. The snapshot does not get created and none of the agents
are running. I have carefully reviewed replication monitor and SQL Agent jobs looking for error messages, but didn't find anything helpful. The replication monitor simply says: "Agent Shutdown.
For more information see the SQL Server Agent job history for job ‘….correct job name here…’".
In the details it says: "The replication agent encountered a failure.
See the previous job step history message or Replication Monitor for more information".
Next I go to the SQL Agent Jobs and review the output.
In the job history the failed step says: "Message : The replication agent encountered a failure. See the previous job step history message or Replication Monitor for more information".
In turn, the previous step has no info at all.
Just the word “Message” with nothing after that. I have also reviewed the windows application log for any errors, but it simply repeats the same messages I see in the replication monitor and agent job history.
I added “–output” parameter to the agent command (in the job step properties) hoping that the output file would provide me with more information, but no output file gets created, which leads me to believe that the agents don’t even start.
I was thinking that I might have hit some hardware limit, so I checked the disk space and there is plenty of it available. I have also checked RAM and it's not even 50%
used.
Finally, what really gets me is that I am able to run all of the agents manually from the command line.
For example, I can copy paste parameters from the SQL Agent snapshot job and run snapshot.exe from the command line with these parameters – the snapshot gets created successfully.
The same goes for logreader and distribution agents.
I am completely confused here and appreciate any pointers in the right direction.
Final note (and maybe the only silver lining): The problem is fully re-producible.
I can successfully setup my 50+ subscription and then the issues will always start around subscription number 52-53.

Answering my own question here. The solution was given to me by Brandon Williams of http://www.sqlrepl.com. I was hitting a Windows limitation related to the use of "desktop heap". The problem is described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949296

Note that while the KB articles refers to WindowsNT and SQL Server 7.0/2000, it certainly applies to the latest versions as well. In my case I am running Windows 2008R2 Server and SQL Server 2012

I need change publication status from "PENDING" to "PAUSED" for wait long load ETL process.

How to change publication status ?

There is another way you could do this without using the SDK to change the status. Instead, you could use a File event. File events do not look at the contents or timestamp of a file - they look at whether the file is present after it has been absent for at least one cycle of the Event Server.
Here's how it would work:
1. In the CMC, create a file event that looks for a file in a specific folder (best to use a UNC path...)
2. In the process that runs the ETL, do the following:
     a. As one of the first steps in the process, delete the file specified in the event.
     b. As one of the last steps after the ETL is finished, create a blank file with the file name specified in the event.
3. Configure the schedule for the publication to wait on the event created in step 1 to trigger.
This is the way a lot of my clients configure schedules that need to wait for the completion of an ETL process.

Publications - Successful job run - View Log File

Hi everyone,
We have a growing number of Publication (based on Webi documents) that are scheduled and I want to report on Errors & Warnings.
When a Job Fails, I can use our Auditing universe and get visibility of the failure reason. When a Job is Successful but there are warning within the Log File - I don't know how to access this information bar manually having to check each Log file which is not feasible.
i.e. This snapshot of the History of a publication looks like all three publications were successful:
The actual jobs ran HOWEVER the one @ 10:00 shows a Warning when you dig into the Log file:
- There are no schedulable documents in the publication. (FBE60503)
2014-04-03 10:00:17,552 WARN [PublishingService:HandlerPool-61] BusinessObjects_PublicationAdminLog_Instance_1633706 - [Publication ID # 1633706] - Unable to find any distributable documents in scope batch
Notifications are of no use to me here, they flag a Successful job even though a warning exits and no documents were sent.
Do you know if you can access these Publication Admin Log xxxxxxxx files and generate reports on them?

The issue is not the reports failing, the issue is around reporting on such failures.

Unable to Import LCMBIAR which Contains Publication

Hi Experts,
We are using BO 4.0 SP6. We are trying to backup our file from production server to DR server.
At first, we exported all the reports in one LCMBIAR (we have selected all the dependencies) and imported in DR but failed.
So we suspect their is an issue about the file size, therefore we tried to export folder by folder and import again in DR server. All the LCMBIAR files are successful imported except for a LCMBIAR file which contains publication.
Is there any limitation? Please advice.

Hi Kim,
There are few knows issues when we try to promote publications through Promotion management. Have you tried with live promotion instead of LCMBIAR. Please refer below KBAs for know issues for this.

Most of the issues were in BI 4.0 and should be resolved in BI 4.1. I would suggest to try direct promotion instead of LCMBIAR and let us know the error message if it fails.

Merge publication missing. But entry is there sysmergepublications

Hi We have a merge publication. It was working fine. All of a sudden publication is missing.
Replication-Replication Merge Subsystem: agent XXXXXXX failed. Publication 'XXXXXX' does not exist.
But till yesterday it was there we did Sp_helpreplicationDBoption db is true for merge replication and entry is there in sysmergepublications table kindly help. It is severity 1 issue

Please check SQL Server error logs. You will have errors regarding replication failures in the SQL Error Logs.
Where did you check the sysmergepublications in publisher or subscriber?
Check the merge agent history as well. Do you see the merge agent in the replication monitor?
It could be that the publication is manually deleted or it got deleted once it is expired.

Failure to find path error

I trying to build my first single edition app. everything seems to going fine until the last screen "create app". When I click that I get this error: Failure to find path:/users/mycomputer/library/preferences/stagemanager.BD092818F67280F4B42B04877600987F1 11B594.1/Local Store/dmp/(publication name here)_2012_9_8_11_25_26/(publication name. Can anyone help figure out this error? What does it mean Local Store? I am a Adobe Cloud member. Do I still have to get a single edition serial number?

I just wanted to post here in case anyone else has this same problem that trashing the #SharedObjets and dmp folders in the Library Preferences directory resolved this for me.

General printer failure 8315:5218

Hi,
When one of the user is trying to print from Adobe pageMaker 7.01a, it does not print and gives the below error message
An error occured while printing
General printer failure
8315:5218
It works fine when try to use the same printer from other applications like Word etc. Reinstalling also did not help.
Can somebody please help with this issue?

Tried below things on users system. But no success.
Print the same file to a different printer
Copied the same file to a local folder and sent to print
Created a new file and sent to print it to different printers
Also ran Repair installation
But none of this worked. The PageMaker does not print to any printer. And gives the same error
Although I installed Acrobat on the system and can print it using Adobe PDF printer to a PDF file.
Is it a PS printer? No
Are you printing to FILE: ?
I do not know how FILE: is related to this. But I opened "Printers and Faxes" window. Select File --> Server Properties. In the "Ports" tab could see an entry for FILE: Do not know how it is related with Adobe Pagemaker
Are you using the Export… AdobePDF… macro? No
Create a new PM publication, with just a square of black on it - does that print OK? No, it gives the same error
It could be a permissions issue - are all the files on a local drive, usually C:, and not a server or flash drive? I copied file on local folder as c:\data\. But still the same error message.
What if you remove all the images- does it print OK? I created a new publication with only text in it and tried printing it. But same message.
Are you using any non-standard fonts? No
I will also carry out a diagnostic recomposition as per your reply and follow instructions from troubleshooting page. Will update again if it worked or not.
