Brasero, xfburn, bashburn burning always with maximum speed.

Hello,
I have big problem with burning CD, all apps from topic title burning my discs (CD and DVD) always with maximum speed (even if I choose lowest speed). It starts with 2.6.34 and remains with 2.6.35. Addition, very often it breaks my cd's or dvd's.
Could anybody help?

IMac G5 fan always at maximum speed after booting into single-user mode in 10.4.3
    Model: 1.6GHz iMac G5 with 10.4.3
I updated my iMac to 10.4.3, then booted into single-user mode to do some cleaning at the command-line level. I know, as others have discovered, that in single-user mode, the thermal control is off, so the fan gradually increases up to maximum speed and stays there until you reboot or go into multi-user mode. Well, I have never experienced this one before, and I'm freaking out about it... I went into single-user mood one reboot after upgrading to 10.4.3, and after all the println white text lines ended, the [1] fan shot up to maximum speed in 0.35 seconds (it sounded like a high-pitched DJ record scratch during the time interval), [2] the fan stayed at maximum speed when I left single-user mode, and [3] I cannot get the fan to slow itself! I rebooted, shut down, and even tried booting off the Tiger CD, but the instant I hit the power button to turn on the iMac, the fans blast up to maximum speed. They shut down when I put the iMac to Sleep, but then they blast up again in full when it wakes up. I checked my settings in the Energy Saver preference pane, and I have the performance set to "Reduced," which is the lowest possible.
I searched to see if anyone else had this problem or if the KBase had any info, but I didn't see any. I'm thinking about erasing and installing my stuff on the iMac, even though I just did that today.
Again, this maximum speed fan problem is freaking me out. It just started when I booted into single-user mode in OS X 10.4.3. I have booted into single-user mode before (10.4.2) and have not experienced this fan issue. I repeat, the fans blast up to maximum speed after pressing the power switch to turn on the computer, so they do not even wait for the Apple logo to show up on the screen before blasting away. How can I get these fans to not do this anymore?!

for the last few months my 20" 1.8GHz Imac has been very noisy - fans seem to run constantly and noisily. It might have been when updating to Tiger but I was never sure. Today, on the advice of a chat tech, I opened the case and reset the SMU to hopefully cure another problem. I noticed that all the air vents, intake and expel ones, were all quite heavily clogged up - not blocked but clogged with dust and fluff. I cleared it away mainly by blowing but also with a hand held hoover held close by. The exposed fan still as a lot of muck on it but greatly reduced and all the vents are completely clear. Having put everything back together again the iMac has been runnning quietly all day. May have been the SMU reset but equally might just be that the computer couldn'tdraw in cool air, circulate it or expel it properly and the fans had to work overtime to cope. Worth checking if you have noisy fans running at speed constantly.

  • Finder doesn't offer burn DVD at maximum speed

I have a fairly recent PowerMac G5 with a DVD writer that can use DVD+RW discs up to 8x. I spent a fortune on some difficult to find 8x DVD+RW discs, and then had the disappointment that Finder only offers 1 speed: 3x. What's going on? I seem to recall that Backup didn't give me a choice of speed at all (and I had foolishly assumed it had automatically used maximum speed).
By the way, I'm using the only 8x DVD+RW discs that seem to be available in the UK - Ricoh Ultra Speed.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the Apple Store (UK) doesn't sell DVD+RW discs at all, and searching everywhere in the UK the Ricoh are the only brand of 8x RW discs available at the moment. It's a standard DVD writer, that according to Pioneers specifications supports 8x DVD+RW. I wonder why Apple hasn't updated Finder to support it.
I also cannot understand why, having bought my mac about 8 months ago, these DVD discs aren't generally available. For me, halving the burn time, is valuable. When backing up to several DVD's it's currently far too time consuming.

  • Regardless of temperature fans always at maximum speed

    Hey,
    I have a 'Refurbished 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel i7 with Retina Display'
It was working fine until yesterday (I've had it 11 months) when the fans decided to just stick to max spin rate (5900 odd) i tried the SMC reset. It did nothing. Reformatted the whole Macbook, even while reformatting the fans were going at maximum.. still the same problem. Did a hardware test and it just returned a SATA problem which i googled and most people said you can ignore it.
It was left off all night and when i came to use it the next day it was actually okay (Was at or around 3000) for about 30 minutes now it's just back to maximum again. Even if i have no programs open and the activity monitor shows CPU load has like 99% idle CPU the fans still run at maximum. It's okay for the most part besides the noise until it gets to a point where the whole computer slows to a crawl. Everything is delayed by like 10-15 seconds even if i have no programs open. The only way i've found to fix that is to shut it down for 5m or so, after booting it again fans still stay at maximum speed but it's usable again.
I have a genius appointment Monday but is there anything else i can try between now and then? I've just got a feeling they are gonna make me pay for any problem even though it's still in Warranty because it was dropped 4 months or so ago but the problems only started yesterday. I did actually go to Apple when it was dropped but i couldn't afford the screen replacement but i still feel like the will pin any fault on me causing it as opposed to anything else.
    Thanks.

It was looked over and they said the only thing was the screen. Why would a temperature sensor be fine for 4 months after it supposodely broke?

  • DR16-B write dvd only with max. speed

My new DR 16-B want to write dvd-s only with maximum speed of the media. If l have an dvd(ex Memorex dvd-4X) my drive unit acceot to write ONLY with 4X,speed 1X,2x are not shown and so it is impossible to select.l have tested with differents Nero ,of course and with nero witch come with dvd writer.l have already change an unit ,so l am now with the second DR16-B  and the same problem .l have also update the firmware.I don't now what to do ,ask for my money back or ask for help?l choose :HELP!   My  PC :OS winxp pro,Sp 2, MB intel i915PBL- Grantsdale,Cpu P4 3000Mhz fsb 800 1Mb cache- Prescot, 2x512 Mb ram 533 Kingmax, radeon x600  128 mb PCI,sound on board Realtek, 1Hdd sata 120 gb 7200 Seagate,2 hdd RAID sata 120 gb 7200 Seagate

Same problem here...... DR16 B2, latest update installed, using Infosmart DVD's
I have burnt about 200 using my Liteon burner at 2x speed but this new one will only burn them at 4x which my DVD player will not read
Using the same DVD media, the same PC, the same DVD player only thing that has changed is installing DR16.
also using the latest Nero not the OEM, there is an addon from Nero called DynWrSpeedOFF which will change your register to allow 2x speed but this bug is in the firmware of the drive
The other problem I am having is the speed of the write...says it is writing at 4x but take about twice as long as my 2x writer, like watching paint dry.
it is also making 60% coaster after about 98% write completed, my Liteon has at max spoilt 0.1%.
you get what you pay for, take them back and pay an extra 10% to get a good DVD writer.

  • I have Internet speed 1 GB but Time Capsule last generation is share wifi maximum speed 200 Mb.

I have a TC ME177/LL/A and an Internet speed of 1 GB. My TC is working on WiFi with maximum speed of 200 Mb. Is anybody which has same problem and fix it?

You cannot get even close to your 1GB speed with an Apple router.. that are just not fast enough even on ethernet.. on wireless you can expect a very substantial drop.. 200Mbps is hugely fast internet for wireless to a router.. and that does indicate an actually connection speed (link rate) of something in the order of 600-800Mbps.. wireless is also another form of politics.. it is how to tell lies.. and when found out.. tell even bigger ones to cover it up.

  • Slow DVD burning - how to reach maximum speed?

I've been trying to burn DVDs at the maximum speed that seems to be supported by my new MBP (8x).
However, the burn speeds seem to fluctuate around 4x-7x.
It seems that my system is fast enough to support 8x, and I'm burning large files that aren't fragmented (so no chance of the hard drive being the bottleneck imo).
Any ideas what may be slowing things down and for any workarounds?
    Thanks!

I doubt it has to do with the media - I'm using quality Verbatim 16x certified DVD+R media.
Also, I'm not doing anything at the same time when it is maxing at 4-7x, but on the other hand when I am doing many things in parallel to burning (playing an mp3, decompressing a large zip, doing massive downloads, all at the same time), this maximum speed doesn't seem to be adversely affected.
Again, seems like the MBP is handling this 7x burn speed with complete leisure, so why not 8x?

  • What's the maximum speed that AirPort Extreme can share with Wifi?

The thing is that I am going to buy a new Wifi Router, but I was considering an AirPort Extreme from Apple but is not specify what's the maximum speed of Internet connection for the Wifi to share, I know that the limit might depend on my service provider, but I don't know what is the theoretical maximum of the AirPort Extreme, does anybody knows?

1,000 Mbps on an Ethernet connection
450 Mbps on a wireless connection, assuming you have a new computer and it has line of sight with the AirPort Extreme. Otherwise, the speed will be lower due to obstructions absorbing the signal.

In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

  • Reading digital port with external clock at maximum speed

I have a PCI-6509. I am programming a fast loop to read 32 bits values from the digital input using an external clock ( injected into one of the card pin inputs )
    The environment is Windows2000 + Visual C++ .
    basically I am doing
     DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxCreateTask("",&taskHandle));
     DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxCreateDIChan(taskHandle,"Dev1/port0:3","",DAQmx_Val_ChanForAllLines));
     DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxSetSampTimingType(taskHandle,DAQmx_Val_ChangeDetection));
     DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxCfgChangeDetectionTiming (taskHandle,"/Dev1/port5/line4:4", NULL, DAQmx_Val_FiniteSamps  , sampsRequested));
     DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxStartTask(taskHandle));
     getSystemTime...
     DAQmxErrChk (DAQmxReadDigitalU32(taskHandle,-1,-1,DAQmx_Val_GroupByChannel,data,sampsRequested,&sampsRead,NULL));
     getSystemTime...
I pass a data buffer big enought to hold the number of samples I am requesting ( for example 10000 of uInt32 ).
It works fine. I get my values but the speed I get is only around 10 KHz.
I print the system time before and after the call to DAQmxReadDigitalU32 as you can see from the above code.
This makes no sense because my external clock in ,"/Dev1/port5/line4:4" (as selected on the ChangeDetectionTiming call) runs at 2.0 MHz.
Could someone tell me what parameters I have to pass to this sequence of NI DAQ functions calls in order to really read at the speed of my external clock?
    many thanks in advance,
    Roberto AButer.
    Note :
I am going desperate with the web pages, documentation , online helps and the pletora of products and so on.
I did pay to NI a considerable amount of money for the card , the labview software etc and I just want to do the simplest 20 lines C program to read my digital signal at the speed is being injected. Should that be that difficult????

    Hello caca,
the board you are using is specified as a static IO board. That means it was not constructed to do highspeed DIO operations.
You cannot use a hardware clock to time your input and output
operations, so you have to use a software timing or, as you chose, the
change detection interrupt. But the maximum speed you can archieve
doing this, is somewhat limited of course.
Check this thread for some more information.

  • Maximum speed dropped?

    Hi,
we have always had a good service with 'expected' speeds of 7Mb, and actual of around 6Mb.
However yesterday we 'downgraded' from option 3 to option 2. I was interested in the new 'infinity' product so did the simple test to see if we are likely to et it soon. I was suprised to find that our maximum speed is now down to 3Mb.
I checked our home hub and it looked like it had crashed as the phone light was off. Checked its stats and our line speed was just over 4MB.
Did power cycle, and all the lights came back, and connected with line speed of 8Mb. However doing the speed test again showed max available of 3MB. Independant speed tests also showed 3MB speed.
Before I start the long round of calling support, has anyone else had this problem?
Our new service is supposed to be activated 25/02.
    Cheers.

  • MacBook 2007: 104°C and fan beyond maximum speed!

    Hello.
2 years ago I bought this MacBook Late 2007 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo model. It wasn't new though it worked like it should. I use my MacBook nearly every day for at least 6 hours a day. It has OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 running nicely on my SSD, so there's no complaining about it's speed as it still just feels new.
It has one big problem though. As I use my MacBook for watching videos, listening to music and gaming etc., my MacBook always runs very hot (~80-100°C). This became a standard for the last few months. When I turn on my MacBook it's processor about 15°C hotter than room temperature. Though it only warms up when actually doing something, this normally lasts for a minute because I'll start using it immediately. Right now I'm typing this question, my MacBook is 58°C. Safari has 2 tabs open, and iTunes is running in the background. The fan is running at 4500rp/m. This is the lowest temperature I can achieve while using the MacBook. When I first bought this MacBook it would run at 30°C while using it. Now it's around 60°C.
When it's beyond 60°C the fans will start running to their maximum speed, which is 6200rp/m. However this month I started to notice something that I consider dangerous. My Core 2 Duo reaches 104°C while watching a 480p video! That's 1 degree away from turning off. I know that MacBooks are designed to run at these temperatures, but actually acieving this temperature on watching a video or playing a two-dimensional game is just rediculous.
I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the thermal paste, and though I'm specialized in these kind of things, I don't want to screw up the MacBook. It runs super fast because of the SSD. Buying me a new MacBook would be a total loss of money since it still performs very well.
I've tried tools like SMCFanControl. Of course it doesn't help because any CPU will warm up when doing intensive tasks. I don't find it helpful.
Lastly, the fan's maximum speed is officially 6200rp/m. Mine reaches 7600rp/m (this is the fan that came with my MacBook. Not a custom one.) and after a short period of time it shuts off. After a second or two it'll turn on again. When this happens it's at 104°C.
    Any advice?
    Thanks in advance!.

I have essentially the same computer and I'm wondering if perhaps your fan is failing? That could explain some of the odd behaviors and readings you're seeing!
My computer typically runs at 70C when I'm using it (I'll have Chrome open with several tabs, at least one of which has a lot of Flash content) and the fan runs around 6200 rpm.
Streaming videos always brings up the temperature to levels similar to what you're seeing - and I believe it's always done that. I can't recall a time when it didn't.
Could you give the link for some of the videos you watch that are causing the fan speed and temperature to increase? I'll try them on my machine and see if it exhibits the same behavior.
Also, keep in mind that many sites that stream videos or have games on them use Adobe's Flash plugin, which is terrible on OS X. It will ramp up the CPU usage to an incredible degree, which in turn means the temperature and fan speed will go up.

  • When SLEEP is selected manually the fan spins at maximum speed non-stop

    Hi,
I have HP Pavilion Elite HPE-180t PC, WIndows 7, Home Premioum, 64 bits.
Occasionally, I put the PC into sleep mode manually if I am finished with my work. Here are the steps I do:
    1. Press Start
    2. On the Shut down drop down list select Sleep
    3. PC turns the fan speed up for a few seconds and then goes to sleep with the power button changing color from blue to yellow.
But once in a while on the third step the fan speed is cranked up to maximum (quite noisy), the button goes from blue to yellow, but the fan keeps running at maximum speed non-stop.
In these situations pressing any key on the keyboard doesn't affect this state i.e. the fan keeps running, and the PC is unresponsive to any keyboard or mouse input.
The only way I found to remedy this case is to press and hold down the power button until the fan stops and the PC shuts down completely.
Any suggestions on how to avoid the freeze up while going to sleep mode manually?

    Hi,
I have the same motherboard in my HP e9280t.  Open up your PC and use a can of compressed air and blow the dust out of the CPU heat sink, power supply, video card and system fans.
Open up the RUN window and enter: msinfo32
If msinfo32 doesn't show the bios level then you will have to boot into computer setup and find the bios level.
Look for the bios level. Bios version 5.29 is the latest and I have been running that level for a long time without issues.

  • Error 4000 burning CDs with iTunes 7.1

iTunes checks the disc, then burns 3-4 songs, then cancels the CD burn wasting yet another disc. Also, I cannot backup my purchased songs with the backup feature. I get the same error 4000 when attempting to make a backup disc. These problems only began after installing iTunes 7.0. How can these problems be fixed? TIA.
BTW, other CD/DVD burning applications continue to function fine.

Same problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now.

  • Airport Extreme Maximum speed

I was wondering if the Airport Extreme has a maximum speed? I have the n version dual band.
I just got a QWest DSL yesterday and they try a speedtest and was accessing the web at 35 to 38MB (I'm paying for 40MB/s, so on the technician laptop the speed was impressive.
I hook they modem to my AE and wirelessly on my new iMac I get max 25MB.
Is there anything I could do to improve the speed regarding setting in my AE.
I can provide info but not sure what needed.
    Thanks for any input
    Thierry
Actually an update: I tried from QWest site: http://seattle.speedtest.qwest.net/ and I get 38MB. I try from the speedtest site: http://www.speedtest.net/ and I get 25MB. Both test are run from the same company: Ookla. Very strange

    Welcome to the discussions, ThierryR!
I just got a QWest DSL yesterday and they try a speedtest and was accessing the web at 35 to 38MB (I'm paying for 40MB/s,
Most service providers specify the rate in Mbps, not MB, so I think you meant to use Mbps here.
I was wondering if the Airport Extreme has a maximum speed?
That would be 1000 Mbps for an ethernet connection
300 Mbps for a wireless connection on the 5 GHz band
130 Mbps for a wireless connecton on the 2.4 GHz band
As you can tell, your Internet connection is the major "choke" point on your network.
I hook they modem to my AE and wirelessly on my new iMac I get max 25MB.
25 Mbps is very good, about 4-5 times the average that most users are getting. There is always going to be some loss in the routing process and performance of the firewall in the AirPort Extreme. You may be able to bet a bit higher speed if the computer is closer to the AirPort Extreme and/or you minimize any obstructions in the signal path.
