Brightness issue with belle on e6

my brightness settings on e6 belle comes to level 0 automatically even if i set it on any higher level after some time....can anyone tell me how to solve this....

power saving m0de will be activated. Deactivate that m0de 1st and ensuer that your m0bile battery is charged m0re than 20% and then change the level of brightness. But 1st of all ensure that power saving m0de isn't activated

  • [SOLVED] Screen brightness issues with Acer 5372Z

The screen of my laptop goes black whenever I boot into ArchLinux, after "reading Udev events" on startup. Most of the time I have to use a flashlight to see the console on my screen and type
    sudo setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20
to set screen brightness manually. The `Fn` + `Brightness up` combination doesn't work on my machine, but that's not an issue with Arch, but fault to sugar in coffee.
There are a lot of similar threads in this forum, but none of the solutions described there really worked 100% or not at all, that's why I'm opening a new thread as this seems to be specific to my hardware.
    Details:
    Graphics controller:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    Screen resolution:
    1366*766
    /boot/grub/menu.lst:
    # (0) Arch Linux
    title Arch Linux
    root (hd0,0)
    kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/sda10 resume=/dev/sda5 ro vga=775
    initrd /initramfs-linux.img
    /etc/rc.conf#DAEMONS:
DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng network netfs crond laptop-mode dbus gdm)
I will describe here what I have did so far on hacking:
Installed the video driver for my Intel card as described here in the wiki
Set kernel mode to `nomodeset`, without specifying vga, of course, which surprisingly solved the issue, but prevented me from using Gnome.
The supposed solution in the Arch wiki doesn't work for me. It makes it worse, in the sense of dumping screen brightness even before "reading udev events" on boot.
My current workaround (to avoid using a flashlight) is to put this line into my `/etc/rc.local`:
    setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=20
I wonder if you can help me to solve this issue, or point me to any of the great documentation provided by the Arch community I might have missed...

Every time I've installed Arch on this computer the same problem arises and the only way I can change the brightness is the setpci terminal method.
This is bad news for new Arch (and Linux) users. This will be probably the point where they will turn over to another distribution.
It seems to be something which has been included in newer kernels, because I can remember that in the 2.6 series this issue did not exist.

  • Card Reader & Screen Brightness Issues with 3000 N100 Running Fedora 10

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and came here to look for info on a couple minor issues I'm having with Fedora 10 on my 3000 N100.  It's great to see that there's a group of Linux users here.  Anyway, onto the issues:
    1) The integrated card reader.  It works just as it should right after I boot up - i.e. insert an SD card and it auto mounts.  However, if I leave the system idle while doing other things the card reader quits working.  I've used the terminal to look up the location of the card reader when it's working properly.  If I unmount the card (under the Gnome desktop System menu, right click the card, select unmount), leave it in the reader, and try to remount it in terminal (using the location mentioned above) it tells me the device isn't found, or the location doesn't exist.
    2) I've set the screen brightness to max as my default (which is just bright enough to read comfortably under the fluorescent lights here at work), and my brightness function keys work fine too right after bootup.  Again, if I leave the system idle for a bit the screen goes dim.  At this point the brightness function keys quit working as well.  If I go to System > Preferences > System > Power Management I can slide the brightness toggle down and back up, and the screen then immediatetly returns to full brightness.
Any help you folks can offer would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi ugaarguy,
It sounds to me like there's some power settings that are powering down the card reader after a certain period of inactivity.  This could also be the case for your brightness settings and keys.
You may find a better answer in the Fedora forums regarding these issues, so you might want to try posting there as well.
Is there a control panel which deals with power settings in Fedora?  Perhaps check around for these settings to see if there are certain power saving features enabled on your system.

  • Brightness issue with Passbook on iPod touch (4th gen) running iOS 6

There's a glitch with Passbook that I'm using with an iPod touch 4G: whenever I open the app, the brightness maxes out, and the auto-brightness doesn't kick in either. The brightness returns to normal when I quit to the home screen or switch to another app. Very annoying and painful in a dim or dark room.

This is actually not a glitch. The reason the iPhone maxes out the brightness when you open passbook is to prevent scanning issues when your coupon or ticket is being scanned. Basically it is preventing you from possibly having to go manually change your brightness because the scanner can't read the dark screen. It seems like a glitch at first but when you think about it, it's genius.

Here is the solution: For thos who uses a negative GMT ,like me (Argentina  -3 GMT) , will need to change for a positive GMT ,like Germany +2 GMT, then go to youtube with your native browser, see how works, and finally go back to your previous GMT.

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • Blackberry needs to sort out he brightness issue on the Q10 - Its very bad

Blackberry needs to release an update for its Q10 device ASAP.  The device has brightness issues since it was launched. In a response to a Forum member's complaint about the screen dimness, a support staff here said that's how the device is made with no auto-brightness toggle to conserve battery. I believe customers should be given the options to turn on or off this option as they wish. Please fix this problem BB

No he doesnt have a screen problem Jason. It is the Q10 that has a screen problem. Stop misleading people here. Blackberry needs to come up with a fix. The fact that they are not even responding to peoples' concerns on the Forum shows why they will continue to suffer pooor sales.
I am extremely disapointed at Blackberry!!

  • MacBook charger problem/Issue with charging

I've got the newest revision MacBook and there's a big problem with my charger. First, let me note that I've got the newest battery update, and have recently reset my PRAM and PMU. Inn addition, I've installed the new firmware update, and that has only seemed to make it worse. The trouble is that when I plug the MagSafe into my MacBook, it either:
    a) shows me no indication that it the power cord is connected, or;
    b) a dim green light appears where there should be a brighter green one that turns orange.
Now, I can sometimes stare at the little prongs coming out of the MagSafe connector to see how to best align the male and female ends. However, this still takes 5-10 minutes to do if it works at all, and the slightest motion disconnects the power. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this a software problem, an issue with the charger, or one with the computer itself? If you need to see pictures to tell, I can post them on flickr and give you a link. By the way, this is bad enough that I am typing on a Windows PC right now, against my will.

I have exactly the same issue.
In when i connect the macbook to the power adapter, there's no bright light showing (only very vague green in the dark) , and it shows in the system profiler that its connected but not charging.
i changed the power adapter but the problem still exist, tried to change the battery as well, but didnt work as well, what is the part which is having a problem in this case?!
By the way also completed al restds (SMC etc).
It is time that Apple provides a solution I figured out is is a common problem.
    any solutions?

  • Issue with Upgrading to 2nd Generation MotoX

Dear Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility,
Your 2nd Generation Moto X Upgrade program is fatally flawed and my experience highlights everything that could possibly go wrong when attempting to upgrade an existing plan.
As Verizon replied to my tweet (my twitter name is @melting_plastic), “Getting a new phone should be an exciting time.” but my experience has been everything but that.
My current phone is a Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. This was my first entry into the Android operating system and I fell in love. As a former Blackberry user, I was a bit hesitant to switch but upon receiving this phone in May of 2012, I had nothing but a great experience with it. This experience made want to continue with a Motorola phone upon my next available upgrade and I had waited to upgrade my phone until the newest Motorola phones were announced. I put off my upgrade for over 5 months waiting for the announcement of a new phone with my current phone deteriorating. The battery life has dropped to less than 2 hours and it has begun to freeze constantly with all the upgrades to software that it is unable to handle. Due to these issues, I checked every day waiting for an announcement of the new Moto X to be release and was finally happy when it was announced it would be released on September 27th for Verizon.
On the morning of Friday September 27th, I attempted to order my phone, a 32gb model, through the MotoMaker website and my first issue arose. Even though I was eligible for an upgrade, the MotoMaker website required a credit check for me to upgrade. As I am not the primary account holder, I did not feel comfortable inputting my father's information for a credit check. I also felt it was not necessary as I was paying the $149.99 by my credit card and the account has been with Verizon since the mid 1990's while it was still Bell Atlantic. As I was eligible for an upgrade and not a new account, it seemed a bit much that this credit check was needed. After searching the internet, I found many posts from the original Moto X release about this issue and the solution was to go to a Verizon Wireless store and pre-purchase the phone there and use the provided pin to order the phone at the MotoMaker website.
During my lunch break on September 27th, I visited the Wireless Zone retailer in Malvern Pennsylvania and waited for over 45 minutes to talk to an associate in an attempt to pre-purchase this phone and receive a pin for the website. This associated had no information about the ability to purchase this pin nor could he order the 32gb model directly for me. He apologized to me about the wait and his inability to fulfill my order but recommended me to go to a retail Verizon Wireless store as they may be able to help me.
After returning to work, I decided to attempt to discuss my issue using the Verizon Wireless help chat on its website. The operator suggested to call the Verizon support line and that they should be able to help me on this purchase. I proceeded to place the call, once again waiting on hold for 30 minutes, until I finally was able to talk to a representative. This representative was unable to help me but transferred me to another department that may be able to. After a brief hold, I was transferred to an individual who was finally able to help me out. He informed me that the 32gb model was not in the Verizon system but was expected to be added on October 1st. He apologized for the wait but at least he was able to provide me with valid information.
On Saturday October 4th, I visited the Verizon Retail location in King of Prussia Pennsylvania and once again waited 45 minutes before being seen by a representative. This time I was helped by an associate named Jeremy who knew exactly what I meant by purchasing a pin. After a bit of struggling to properly place the order, the order was placed with the help of a manager, at the price of $199.99 with a $50 mail-in-rebate. This became the 2nd area of disappointment. Not only did I have to wait to purchase this phone but I had to pay an increased rate up front and needed to send in for a mail-in-rebate. I thanked Jeremy for his help and headed back to my residence 15 miles away.
Once home, I attempted to place the order for my phone. As I live 100+ miles away from the primary account address, I had planned to have the phone shipped to my work as I had done when I purchased my Droid Razr Maxx. The MotoMaker website prevented me from changing the shipping address and I was once against frustrated by this process. I used the MotoMaker online support tool and they informed me that I must contact Verizon and they can adjust the shipping address as each PIN has a pre-defined shipping address attached to it.
I called Verizon's technical support line at approximately 4:30PM from my home phone. After once again waiting on hold for half an hour, I was finally connected to an associate and she was very friendly and attempted to help me with my shipping issue. She understood my frustration and placed a 3-way call between her, myself and Motorola support. During this call, she and myself became very frustrated with Motorola support staff as they refused to adjust the shipping address and stated that there was nothing that they could do. She apologized to me and suggested that I return to the King of Prussia location and attempt to sort it out there.
Begrudgingly, I returned to the Verizon location and once again waited to speak to Jeremy. He apologized for my situation and saw the only way to rectify it was to have FedEx adjust the shipment address after it had been shipped. He informed me that any charges that would be incurred to do so would be credited to my account if I returned to the store with the receipt.
I returned home and attempted to place the order again. This time I was able to adjust my shipping address and placed the order. While doing so, I received an error message and was instructed to call Motorola's support line. I called this line at around 7:45PM and spoke to a gentleman named Christian. He opened up support case 141005-006808 and informed me that because of my attempt to change the shipping address, this was why the error occurred. He instructed me to attempt to replace the order using the original supplied address and e-mail account and that I “must” use the Chrome web browser. This statement of having to use the Chrome browser was a complete fallacy and he refused to accept that any other browser could be used to properly order the phone. I installed the Chrome browser, attempted to order the phone and this time I was informed that my PIN was already used, likely during the original failed attempt. Christian informed me that he must escalate the issue and it would take an additional 24-48 hours. The simple act of creating a new PIN should not take this amount of time.
On Monday October 6th, I was finally able to get in contact with another associate from Motorola who was instantly able to create a new PIN for me. I once again placed the order and this time it went through with no issue, order number 00789348. The only disappointment was that I now had to wait until “approximately October 27th” to receive my new phone. During my waiting period, I periodically check the MotoMaker website and during that time, noticed that they offered an additional $50 discount on the Verizon Moto X which would have brought my total down to $99.99. So on top of the additional wait and disappointment, I had now paid $100 over the current price through MotoMaker .
On Tuesday, October 22nd, I finally received the e-mail stating that my phone had shipped and was due to arrive in Forked River, NJ on October 23rd. Using the FedEx website, I attempted to adjust my shipping address to my work, at the cost of $30 and a delay until Friday October 24th. I was unable to perform this action and then attempted to adjust the shipping address to the location I would be at Friday night (my sister's house) for the same delay, but only a cost of $5. Once again I was unable to perform this action and decided to call FedEx directly. After speaking to the associate at FedEx, she informed me that the only way to adjust the address was to have the shipper, Motorola Mobility adjust the address. With my previous issues with Motorola, I knew that this request would be denied. At this point, my only recourse is to have my parents ship me the phone to my work once they receive it on October 23rd. Even then, I'm unsure if FedEx will leave the phone at the location without a signature if no one is there to sign for it, which is why I attempted to ship the phone to my work.
At this point, I'm extremely dissatisfied with both Verizon and Motorola with how this whole situation has transpired. I feel a though I should have purchased an Apple iPhone 6 even though I am not a fan of the iOS platform or a different Android OS manufacturer. As a Fios account holder, I am also tempted to switch to the competition after 3+ years of being a customer. I feel that both Motorla and Verizon failed to rectify any hardship I had experienced in my attempt to purchase this phone and even now fear that I will not receive my phone in time to mail in mail-in-rebate which needs to be postmarked by November 1st.

MPerreca, This is quite a lot for you to have to go through! We surely don't want to lose your business as we appreciate your loyalty with us. I understand the challenges that can come in needing the shipping address changed on your phone orders. I'm glad to learn that the phone is now on it's way.
I'm confident that you'll be fine with submitting the rebate for your phone. If you do run into troubles with the submission, please let us know. You can also pre-submit your rebate information, here: http://bit.ly/1kKwKJK. Let us know if you have further concerns.

  • Performance issues with unibody Macbook Pro 2009 purchased in October 2009

I have a 3.0Ghz Macbook Pro 15" which came installed with Snow Leopard.
I specified the machine with a 7200rpm 500GB drive although I had heard there were issues with these drives. I have installed Office 2008, CS/3, firefox, chronosync and fusion 3.0.
Since I have had the machine it has got slower and slower. Which surprises me given the configuration and the fact that I have 8GB of RAM. It should be quick.
I notice that it has become even slower since downloading a 'performance update' via software update which I installed when software update told me it was available yesterday, October 28th.
Has anyone else experienced the same problem? I also notice that these machines run very hot. I have read a lot of discussion which says that using Vista under fusion can make the machine run very hot. I have tried quitting fusion to see if the performance is any better and the machine still runs very hot and the performance is still awful.
To say that I am disappointed in such an expensive machine not performing properly is an understatement. I have a MacPro which apart from a graphics card replaced under warranty has never misbehaved itself.
I am not sure what all this 'Apple fanboy' nonsense is about - as far as I can see Apple with the notebook line seem to be releasing products which purport to be very advanced but in reading through the forums there seem to be nothing but problems with them.

Yeah, I was kinda worried since it is new. I thought maybe I could somehow adjust the brightness on the screen to make the bottom and corners brighter. And perhaps it was a software issue that was causing the keyboard to malfunction. And definitely have no clue about the headphone jack noises. And the bent display. Hmmm. I guess I will call AppleCare.

  • Few issues with BI 2004s

    Hello there,
I am having few issues with BI 2004s system. It’s a new implementation.
    -         When you create Data source using DB connect in new system, it creates with old version. I could see the SMALL square box next to the Data source. I would expect the system to generate new 2004s datasource.
    -         Obviously the generated D/S won’t allow us to create New Transformations. We have to create old transfer rules/update rule. I do see the option to migrate the D/S when I right click on it. But I get short dump when I try that and then you have to discard the D/S and create new one.
    -         Also, it won’t allow you to delete the DBConnect D/S although you have option to do that?
    Anyone has faced these issues?
    Performance issue with reporting:
I understand that you have to have portal in order to execute reports which we don’t have at this client. They don’t have time and money to invest right now. So we have created reports using BW 3.5 BEx Q.designer/WAD to run the reports on web. The report takes long time when you try to drill down on Material/Customer with only 150,000 records in Cube. The cube has just three dimensions (two char each) and 4 key figures. Any suggestion to improve?
    Thanks
    Sudhakar

Yes, I noticed it too and was thinking the same thing, blueaura.
I'm sure they want to ensure the scan is reliable. I keep my screen at a lower brightness to save power, and sometimes Starbucks scanners take a bit longer for it to register.
    2) is already fixed.
    3) is a feature, not a bug. If you are updating an app you already have installed, it doesn't bother to ask you for the password. Nice!
For Google maps, just use maps.google.com in the browser.

  • 3G Issues on Bell Canada Network

    Hi,
I have been without 3g service on my 32GB 3G iPad 2 for the last three days. My 3G data did work beforehand. My Wi-fi connection works fine.
I get no 3G connection using any app but when using Safari, I get an error message of:
    Cannont Open Page
Safari cannot open the page because the network connection was lost.
My iPad shows full bars and says Bell 3G in the corner.
I spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support running me through the standard troubleshooting procedures, turning settings on and off, resets, I even did a full restore when I got home.
Thinking it may be a hardware issue, I went to the Apple Store and they gave me a whole new iPad, but after reinserting my SIM, I got the same issue.
I went over to the Bell kiosk in the mall and was there for about an hour doing more troubleshooting including giving me a new SIM card.
I'm thinking the probability of having two faulty iPads is pretty low and am assuming it is totally on Bell's shoulders. Talking to tech support today, they admitted they've had a few similar calls.
Has anyone else experienced the same issues?
I am kinda POd as I had a skin on the back of my original iPad that wasn't coming off in any nice fashion so I had to leave it on the iPad going back to the warehouse esentially putting me out money.
I'm supposedly a "high priority" with Bell and am expecting a callback later today or tomorrow.
I'll be switching to Rogers or Telus if this isn't wrapped up soon, so annoying.

    @spitfire411
Here's the confusing part.  You are claiming that you are on a shared data plan and yet your wife's corporate only has a 500Mb data plan.  As I recall from a Bell Canada rep, any shared data plan with a smartphone (iPhone) requires a minimum of a 1Gb data plan.  And in order to achieve something similar to what you thought you are getting, you need a small business account with about 1000 voice mins plus extra $30 gets you a 6Gb data plan and plus $10 additional share plan to share the data plan with your tablet (that was when the 1st iPad came out -- they lowered the restrictions somewhat since then).  I had to upgrade to this plan in order to get sharing and tethering to work properly.  The monthly flex plan you mentioned is I believe an independent plan by itself and should not be tied with your wife's corporate plan.  Perhaps they may have made a mistake and tagged your tablet's plan as a shared data plan with a smartphone, but since it's only a 500Mb data plan, the system probably refused to allow sharing because of its failure to meet the minimum 1Gb data plan for smartphones that's required.  Unless Bell had changed this requirement recently?!?
Bell's Corporate EPP plan is not the same as a small or business plan because some people can get it through say BCAA (then) or Costco or an employee working for a company, so sometimes Bell people confused what's possible in a business plan that is not available on a corporate plan and I suspect this may explain why you lost access after the 1st billing cycle.
To give you an idea, minimal browsing and email and social networking can consume about 1Gb/month with an iPad.  Any minimal Youtube streaming and Shoutcast or Tunein Radio usage on top of what you are doing, you will need a minimum of about 3Gb/month.  Yes, a tablet can suck bandwidth much more than an iPhone which probably explains why Bell wants you to have a minimum 1Gb data plan so if you plan to tether an iPad to an iPhone, you are not going to get any surprises with a 1Gb data plan as opposed to a 500Mb plan.  So unless you have a large data plan (5Gb or higher), you should keep your smartphone and tablet plans separate.
Good luck in your progress with Bell and let us know what you found.
