Brother HL-3170CDW won't print in color, has poor print quality. I have downloaded drivers, and firmware from Brother with no success.

Just received this printer, and am unable to have any success with it printing in color. I have downloaded drivers, and firmware from Brother that are for OSX 10.9. Also, the print quality is quite poor. Any suggestions what I should be looking for to resolve this? I feel like I am back in the 90's with Windows 3.1!

You need to go to the brother website and download the driver for your printer. I had the same problem, and resolved it just now. The driver for this particular printer is not a good match for any of the preinstalled printer drivers on os x.

It's possible that you need new drivers from HP, in order to be compatible with OS X 10.8.3. Looking at HP website, they haven't released new drivers since last November. You might need to wait for new drivers or contact HP to push for an update.

Oh boy! Acting kind of weird seems to be an understatement, aquaequus!
What type of troubleshooting were we able to do with you? I want to make sure that we can get some sort of resolution for this problem.
It is quite possible the battery door may get your phone in working order again. I'm not sure if the store has it in stock, but it is available in our warehouse for $14.99 which can be ordered via customer service.

Sorry that you are having a problem printing documents. Try to print a self test page or printer status report from the printer itself, and see if you get the same results.
Also try to make a copy of a document, and see if the poor printing continues.
Have you MANUALLY cleaned the print head? If you can take the print head out, clean with lint free cloth and water.

My printer HP color laser jet CP1215 seems to have frozen and no matter what i do it won't restart

I have the HP color laser jet CP1215 and it seems to have frozen. I have tried unplugging and replugging the printer as well as just turning it on and off. I was able to delete some of the documents in the queue but there is one that I cannot delete and it is freezing the printer.

If that did not work there is more wrong than just a hanging printjob, the step should have removed it.

Cs6- need to enable printer's color management in Print settings dialogue box

I have been printing successfully for months to my Epson R2400. Suddenly, I am getting a Caution Triangle with a note that says "Remember to enable the printer's color management in the print settings dialog box. I have selected Color Handling: Printer manages in the Photoshop Print Settings box. Where else would I make this change.

Just select Photoshop Manages Color, and the printer driver color options should be disabled.

Why doe's my 8500A printer use color ink when printing black and also when unit is cleaning

I only print in black. I am required to buy all the colors because my printer will not operate when any cartridge is empty.
I was informed at Office Depot that all printers operate this way. According to them it also uses ink when it goes through
the cleaning cycle.
The XL ink package at Office Depot (black, yellow, cyan, magenta) is $97.00 + tax.
I hope someone has a logical answer why this is set up this way.
Why do I need colors to print black?

The 8500A takes 4 ink cartridges and 2 printheads (one for black/yellow, and another for the other two colors). This design is so that you have have larger ink cartridges (stationary on the side, the printer only moves the printhead during printing). A drawback is, you have to have all the cartridges in, without the ink cartridges, the printheads could be damaged and would cost more to replace.
Printing black text uses black ink only, it does not use color ink. The "Clean printhead" function does print a color page and uses color ink, but you only need to do this when you notice lines missing (printhead clogged) in the printout.
If you print mostly black only, choose a model that uses cartridges that has a printhead built in. These printers typically can still print black with color ink out.

There are several things that may cause the color inks to be used when printing in black and white:
1. Duplex printing is selected. If you print double-sided pages, the color inks will be used to produce the black on the page, even if grayscale printing is selected. This is done to eliminate over-saturation of ink on the page.
2. A paper type other than PLAIN PAPER is selected. Any other paper type selected other than plain paper will utilize the color inks to produce the black on the page.
3. Periodic print head cleanings. The printer goes through a cycle to clean the inkjet nozzles periodically so they do not become clogged; this process will use both the black and color inks.

Black prints but colors do not print.

I have uninstalled my printer (officejet 6500) and then downloaded new drivers and reinstalled the printer. The price of the printhead makes me wonder if I should buy a new printer.

The document here may help resolve colors not printing on the Officejet 6500. Be sure to check the vents as described in Solution Two. If that does not resolve the issue the post here may help.

How to remove old USB printer drivers and ports from Windows XP and Windows 7

We have several instances of HP 4250 Printers connected as local USB printers. When trying to replace this model with a HP P4015n or HP 600 M602n the new models will appear to install but won't print. No error messages but sometimes they try to install with ieee 1284.4 support which would seem to be a parallel port type. We're trying to use the HP UPD PCL 5. I'm looking for a way to completely remove the old printer instances, drivers and ports. While the printer icons and drivers seem to be able to be deleted the USB printer ports can't be deleted. Then when I go back and try to install the new model printer it can only use he existing USB port. Again, when that happens the new printer won't print. So I'm trying to get a completely fresh start with the XP SP 3 and Win 7 OS before installing the newer models. I've tried several methods to clean the USB printers but the instructions are never detailed and most times something is missing and the OS needs to be reloaded. I thought that I would see if someone who knows HP USB printers has any ideas...

These seem to be a commercial products. For the best chance at finding a solution I would suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support!

I am trying to connect a printer but when the pc searches for the drivers/software it says there are none for this version of lion? 10.8 I have downloaded drivers for the 10.7 version but still cannot get it to accept any ideas?

You will have to try the xerox website for the latest drivers for Mac OX system you are using

It may be that your printer is not supported. You do not specify which model you have so unable to help further.

My printer (deskjet 690c) has started printing gibberish all the time.

As soon as I switch it on it starts printing junk. The only way to stop it is switching it off. I have tried reloading software but to no evail. Any suggestions please.

This would generally be caused by a print job that was interrupted; when the printer is turned back on the job is out of sync and is not properly recognized by the printer. You will need to delete the print job from the queue.
What is the operating system? Running the diagnostics at http://www/hp.com/go/tools may help resolve the issue.
