BT Stratus home phone with echo

I bought a Bt Stratus about a month ago and everytime I'm on the phone to anyone it seems like the mic and earpiece are picking up each other and causing an echo every time I speak (no overly impressed with it as I can remember it was not that cheap).
Is this a common problem or just a fault with my stratus?
Is there any fix as its not really of any use, tend to use my mobile or hub phone instead.
Regards Chiffs

Hi Chiffs,
Thank you for posting. This is not a known issue that I have come across with the BT Stratus phone before. It sounds like to me that your phone my be faulty. If you've had you phone for less than 12 months this should still be covered by warranty. I would recommend you contact the retailer where you purchased your phone and they can look into get this repaired or replaced.
Thanks

I need to access and use Skype from overseas, and am considering buying a a Chinese phone called the X10.  It's an unlocked quad-band GSM phone - which is fine - supports GPRS & WiFi, but is not 3G. It supports Java but is not Android.  Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in features that will allow Skype use, and what I should avoid? Many thanks.  Steve
You probably want an Android or iPhone for use with the Skype mobile apps.  Phones with the Symbian operating system - mostly Nokia phones - can also use a Skype app, but lacks some of the features available in the Android or iPhone versions.  If you are able to confine your use to Skype to WiFi, not having 3G or 4G/LTE on your mobile phone is probably not an issue.
I have a Nokia N8 mobile phone, which uses the Symbian operating system.  Nice phone, compatible with GSM/UMTS networks around the world.  The Skype app for it is not great, but works on WiFi or 3G data networks.  What I ended up doing was also purchasing an iPod Touch, which is compatible with apps for the iPhone, and a WiFI hotspot app for my N8.  Then I use Skype on the iPod, connecting to the Internet through the N8's hotspot app via WiFi.  It takes two devices in this case to use Skype, but I'm making use of the better Skype app on the iPod over the N8.  Or I can just use the iPod if I have access to WiFi wherever I happen to be.
    Hope that helps!

You cannot port your existing phone number to Skype.  Skype does not participate in those programs.  Since you mentioned Canada, that adds another complication - Skype does not offer Online Numbers in Canada, due to a Canadian requirement that anyone providing telephone service with Canadian telephone numbers must be able to connect callers to 911 (Skype does not connect callers to emergency-services numbers like 911 in Canada and the USA, 999 in the UK, 000 in Australia, etc.).
There is an alternative that might work for you.  You would still get a new number, but it would make use of Skype To Go - the way you can access your Skype services from a telephone, instead of a computer or other device connected to the Internet.  Please read the following link prepared by one of the forum moderators:

  • Home Phone Service via Verizon Wireless needs some SERIOUS rethinking!

Has anyone else signed up for home phone service over Verizon Wireless?
Here in LA, they offered a $19.99/month deal using the wireless service - a box provides the service, and you plug your home phone in. The service is adequate, but somebody forgot to think about how home phones work. I tried to get my billing set up through my bank, and after getting no notice for three weeks, I got a message in my email box that my bill was delinquent, and I owed a late fee. I had tried to set up the billing via My Verizon, but could never get a password to work. I finally got a phone number to call, and they sent me a new password via text message - to a home phone with no text capabilities. After hearing and seeing nothing for another two weeks, I called again, and they told me they'd sent the message. I had to remind them that this was a home phone - no texts. So they offered to send me a letter with a new password, within 7-10 ten days. It arrived two weeks later, and didn't work. Each of these phone calls took about an hour, and I still didn't have a connection.
I put the bills (now up to two delinquent cycles) on my credit card, just to bring thins current, and got one more password. This time I called BEFORE trying it, and with the assistance of a more determined tech, got an ID and password combination to work. I can now see my bill. I still don't know if the autopay will work, and I have no idea if there's any way to get a notice that the bill wasn't paid.
I cancelled my AT&T service because of its cost, but at least its billing worked. Verizon has some serious rethinking to do about how it's billing system works for home users. And they didn't lock me into billing hell for two years.
The topper is, today, I got a notice from Verizon that I've been delinquent in returning a refurbished instrument I never received, billed to a phone number I don't have. And of course there's no phone number to call to straighten it out.

        Hello KeyGroupGJ!
Wow, Im sorry for all the issues you have had with the Home Phone Connect service! I'd really like to assist you. You mentioned that there is no number to call to get this straightened out. No worries, there is no need to call us, since I can reach out to you. Please send me a direct message with your name, your mobile number, and a good contact number for you. • No home phone and no one can find my number

I came back from vacation only to find I had no phone service. i contacted Verizon's customer service who said I have no home phone with them. After further research i was told it was ported over to Cox but I didn't do it. They transferred me to tech support , who then transferred me to new account who said I needed customer service (again) that was experiencing waits of 10 mins (again). Finally hung up. Long story short, Verizon said it was ported over to Cox. Cox has no record. No one knows what happened to my number!

  • I want my land line, home phone as my caller ID, h...

This is 2012.  I'm out of work and money.  I only have a home phone with local service only.  I have to use Skype for my 1 or 2 long distance calls per month.  I'd like my home phone to be my caller ID.  I can't receive txt messages that way, but I'd at least have a return number for those to see who it is.  Everyone on the internet from google, youtube and "you name it", wants a cell phone number and I can't even afford anything, whether it's a cell phone or an "unused" extra number for a fee.  I can't tell you how frustrating it is to have businesses hang up on me because they think they are being pranked because of what they see on their screens when I call.  In Los Angeles, two miles from my house can be a long distance call.  Please Help those of us that are sincerely poor!!!!  It would only take you 2 seconds longer to call my house for me to verify my land line.  I would even be happy if you only did it for me.  Please quit being so greedy and realize some of us are at "Rock bottom".  In other words,  no matter what, I'm not paying for anything else.  Even though I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place, not one more penny is being spent on anything.  I have none.  I already possess a return number and I'd like to use that one.

I have the same question for a different reason. Your text implies that we can use our land line numbers for Caller ID but the implementation doesn't allow it. Why not? i have a cell phone but don't want most people knowing or using it because it's rarely on and each call is separately charged. I want any callbacks to be on my land line. How do I make Caller ID show my land line number?

  • Save by eliminate home phone?

I have a triple play deal which includes verizon fios home phone with unlimited calling. I asked whether there would be any savings if I elimnated the home phone, but I just kept getting told I'd lose all the savings from triple play and renewals. I just want a straight answer, as to what the real cost of the phone service is, and what I'd lose in discounts. Can;t get a straight answer

I can definitely understand your frustration!  I have had consistent trouble with verizon since i started with them in may 2013. it was to be a "deal" with direct tv.  none of the pricing since day 1 was even remotely accurate. 5 different techs had to come to our residence, all of which said different things (problem with line going to house, another said they never had service in my area, another said it was inside, another said issues with some problem down the road, another said entire line bad going into nearest town)...being billed every month when each month soooo many days had no service whatsoever, countless calls to verizon, promises for a discount, promises for credits, paying in to them now hundreds of dollars, sitting here unable to even use the phone this entire month, just static, cannot figure out online here how to even get ahold of anyone to get credits for no service, or even to report the problem! nonsense!! the phone doesnt work at all! the info online on verizon website has..."simple...just call!"....               i am disgusted and can do nothing about it...the bills keep coming, i pay them, cant use the phone over 80% of the time,  its ridiculous...and yet, all the times I did get ahold of them, I ended up getting transferred to this person, then that person, then accused of it being something inside, then accused of wanting credits for non service but didnt call to let them know, then I get promised something else when I cal I get to speak to someone in costa rica...wow, I have to make it a goal to get this taken care of somehow!!

  • Echo on Verizon Wireless Home Phone Connect-Why? How to Correct?

Several months ago we switched from Verizon land line service to "Verizon Wireless Home Phone Connect". (4G Cellular). Up until a month or so ago all was good. Now we have a very strong ECHO on our end only (the person on the other end does not hear it) during many calls. Sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not. But we've not seen any pattern (time of day, etc.) Also, it always lasts for the entire call; does not come and go during a call.
This echo is so annoying that we hate to make or answer a phone call.
What is the cause of the echo?  How can it be corrected?
Perhaps coincidentally, the signal strength has dropped from a consistent 3-4 bars to a consistent 1-2 bars. Can't help but wonder if there is a correlation.
If we cannot get this corrected we will go back to a land line; and NOT likely Verizon.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,

YosefT_VZW, Thanks for your reply.  To answer your questions:
    1.     Yes, the antennae if fully extended (and has not changed since installation).
    2.     This is not a land line and I have no land lines in the house. But it occurs with all connected extension phones (1 cordless set of 4, and 1 hard wired desk phone).
    3.     And, Adjusting the volume does not make any difference to the echo problem.

  • I have a wireless home phone connect device. Can call out on it when dial tone present, but most times cannot receive calls since purchase. Anyone else having a  problem with their home connect device?

Have had Wireless Home Phone connect device refreshed and updated three times since I purchased it in September 2014. Last tech I worked with on it initialized an NRB to check the network. I checked the location of the tower, which is less than one mile up the hill with clear line of site. The device always has two antennas on it. The device is great when it does work, but most of the time it rings three times and then jumps to an automated message saying the person I am calling is not available. I've actually gone up there several times to try an fix the device, but always end up calling a Verizon tech who has me unplug it, pull the battery, and they do some network stuff and then we turn it back on and it works. After the last time on 10/02/14, I called it and got the message. I drove up there, 100 miles one way, and called it while standing in the room. Got the same message. I picked up the phone, heard a dial tone and dialed my phone and it range through. I hung that phone connected to the device and call it using my cell phone. It rang through. I went home and tried to call it the next day. Again it did not ring through and I got the message after three rings. I call another phone at the facility and had them call me on my mom's phone and it is fixed it again. The fix last for a day or two and then it's broken again, like it is today. If it's a network problem then it must be fairly close to the area because no matter what we do it fails again. So much for the 99.98% reliable. This thing is a piece of junk!
I purchased this device and put it on my plan so that my mother who we placed in a home at 96 years old would have a phone connection that she could use and wouldn't flip her out. My family and her family has not been able to faithfully connect with her at this critical time in her life. I am giving Verizon 10 more days to figure this out and then I am going to ask for a total refund not to mention how much time and travel I have put into this piece of junk. Either the home connect transceiver is broken or the network is broken. Why should I pay close to $70 for a service that has not worked more than several days out of 35 days? Also I have spent close to three hours on the phone with decent technical people, but it's my time. I should send Verizon a bill for every time I have gone up there to fix this device as well.
What perplexes me is that a regular cell phone would have sufficed, but because Verizon has to have a data connection that is not available on a regular phone and it was going to cost me $30/month, I decided to go with the home connect. Seemed like a nice solution for an older person who would have a hard time using a cell phone and keeping it charged. Plus after all the fees for getting it connected, it only cost $20/month. That would be a pretty good thing, IF IT WORKED....... The other thing that irks me is, why do I have to pay for a data connection when the cell phone Verizon originally provided can't even access the network. What ever happened to adding a phone line for $10 bucks\ month? All I wanted was a simple phone. She would not be able to use anything more complex and all she needs is a phone line period.
I have no problem paying for something that works and does what it should, but this is ridiculousness. The MTF on this device is somewhere around 1 to 2 days. Out of 365 days that's about a 96.5% failure rate....... Want my advice? Get ride of this device. It sucks and it's bad marketing.

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Can i use my ipad2/iphone or touch to interface with a home phone landline?

My house phone has broken and i was wondering if there is a docking device that can be interfaced with one of my apple products to make it utilise my landline.

If you have an iPad, you're more than welcome to get a VoIP client (Google Voice, anyone?) which will let you make calls...and as we all know, iPhones can make calls.
Home phones are getting cheaper and cheaper, so I don't see why you couldn't just fix the home phone for ~$20.

  • Is the iPhone 3GS compatible with Motorola DECT 6.0 Bluetooth Home Phone?

I have reception problems in some rooms in my apartment. I know that other cellphones are compatible with this motorola's home phones, so you can leave the cellphone in the room that you have signal and use the bluetooth connection of the cellphone with the motorola's handset so you can have reception in the bluetooth coverage area.

If you are able to pair the iPhone at all with the Motorola, it is compatible. If you "have reception problems in some rooms in my apartment" note that Bluetooth "coverage area" only includes line of sight distance. Bluetooth is not rated to penetrate any intervening solid objects such as walls, doors or even bodies (living, dead or undead).

Did you do ANY research at all about this product.
From the product description on the Verizon website:
    "Device Incompatibilities
NOTE: Home Phone Connect is not compatible with home security systems, fax machines, DVR services, credit card machines, or medical alert services (e.g. Life Alert). HSI/DSL may or may not be available; please contact your service provider to determine if this product is available as a standalone offering."
I did not add the red highlighting, that is how it is displayed on the Verizon website! I have had Home Phone Connect for over a year now and have not had any problems. I kept a landline for use with my fax machine because with the minimal research I had done on the product, I was aware that fax machines were not compatible.
Edit: I also purchased the Home Phone Connect without a contract as I did not think paying a $175 ETF would be acceptable if I did not like the device when I was only receiving a $130 product in the first place. I just payed the $130 and will use this line to upgrade a smartphone where I get a ~$400 incentive if I need it. Then I would consider signing a contract.
