Bug Found: Illustrator CC *always* merges layers when opening a DXF file - CS6 works properly. When opening a DXF, CC merges multiple layers into one, even if you have the "Merge Layers" unchecked. Can a forum admin employee get this submitted as a bug report? Thanks.

Results: It has merge all the layers into one layer.
Expected results: It should open with multiple layers preserved. Illustrator CS6 works properly.

What happens to entities on layers when opening FH MX files in AI CS 5?

Hi,
when opening Freehand MX files with multiple layers - and multiple entities on these layers -, we figured out that all entities are to be found on the first layer (alphabetic sequence) in Illustrator. In other words: the entire structure of our FH document is completely destroyed and all entities are lying on only 1 layer.
Did anyone of you encounter the same issue? And if so, did you find a solution to fix this problem?

this occurs in any existing FH MX file we are opening in AI CS5. And we have hundreds of thousands of them. I don't think that our objects are somewhat "special" - just the regular types of paths, text etc.
What I find really amazing is that all existing layers within the FH MX file are properly being migrated into the resulting .AI file. To me, this means that AI CS5 recognizes and translates the layer structure correctly. So far so good - apart from placing/leaving the existing objects on their respective layers.

Adobe Reader 9.x crashes when opening some pdf files that work fine with Adobe Reader 8.x

Adobe Reader 9 crashes when opening approximately 10% to 20% of the pdfs in my collection. The remaining 80% to 90% work without problems. The pdfs are launched by double-clicking the pdf file from Windows Explorer. The crashes occur with both v9.0 and v9.1. The pdfs that crash in v9.x work fine in older versions of Adobe Reader, such as v8.1.3. Furthermore, this behavior also occurs on all 3 virtual machine hosted on the same physical machine, with default Adobe Reader settings, for both v9.0 and v9.1. The virtual machines have little running in memory except standard Windows executables - i.e. they are fairly pristine. The operating systems for the virtual machines are XP SP3, XP SP2, and Windows Server 2003.

To sum up, this problem happens on both a real computer running XP SP3, and also on all 3 virtual machines hosted on the same physical computer. I tried changing the Reader setting to not use hardware rendering, to no avail. I also tried various Data Execution Prevention settings in Windows, to no avail. All operating systems, the real and virtual ones, do not have problems with other programs that I use. I also tried a second machine with Adobe Reader v9.1 and the same exact problem pdfs, and had no issues. Thus, the problem happens on only one of the computers, but on the real and 3 virtual operating systems on that machine. There were no errors reported during any of the Reader installations. The virtual machines had no prior versions of Reader prior to Reader installation.

I did further testing of 10 single page pdf files which I created from a single book. All 5 pdf files with images crashed in Reader v9.1. 0 of the 5 pdf files without images crashed in Reader v9.1. Reader v8.1.4 crashes on none of the 10 pdfs. Note that the crash always occurs in jp2klib.dll, which according to the file property description is 'JPEG2000 Core Library', which deals with images. So it seems the issue is in Adobe's jp2klib.dll, in combination with the hardware/software that I have. I used Microsoft's DirectX Diagnostic Tool to test DirectX, including visual tests of DirectDraw and Direct3D - everything worked as expected with no issues detected. think I've found a bug. I'm using JDev 10.1.3, patched with SR1 & 2, my machine is a Windows XP SP2 box with 1GB mem and Intel Pentium 4 2.60 Ghz with HT.
When I try to open a file in the Java editor the IDE hangs. Launching jdev.exe I can see that the following output is continuously printed:

Note the last empty line before the end-of-file. If I try to past this code into a Java file and open it in JDev, it hangs as described.
Moreover, if I remove the last empty line, JDev will open the file in the editor but, as soon as I enter it again (placing the cursor at the end of the file a hitting enter) JDev hangs again.
A final note: I experienced many hangs also in JSP editor, especially selecting a block of text and pasting something in its place, but don't know if the two behaviours are related.

Ok, maybe I've tracked down at least one factor that makes JDev hang. I changed my font back to the default "DialogInput" instead of "Lucida Console" and now it opens my file.

I am downloading Tiff images from a partners website. After extracting the file and opening from Photoshop CS5.1 it's only displaying one of the original image layers. For example and image with two guys shaking hands in an office is only opening the clipped two guys and not showing the backgroud. The vendor says the files open fine on their end which leads me to believe its a download or photoshop issue. Any recommendations?

Thanks Curt... I don't think my explanation was clear. I'm downloading an image from an external webiste. The image downloads in a ZIP archive. After extracting from the Zip file, I go into photoshop and do file open. Only part of the image appears. It looks as if it's the top layer of a photoshop image but since I didn't build the image, I'm not certain it was built with multiple layers. Any ideas?

I still have both Illustrator versions installed and can go back to use the original files, however I'd like to upgrade smoothly without having to redo all my vectors!

That is strange sounds like what happens when you open a die built in autocad, in illustrator. What happens if you paste a CS6 path into CC?

Problem occurring when opening and saving files in AI SC5 with Windows 7

Hi, I ‘am a Graphic Designer and first time working in UAE Windows 7 is basically the only OS here. My PC is:
HP Elite 7000
Intel® Core™ i5 CPU 2.67GHz
4GB RAM
32-bit
Now to the problem, not that knowledgeable in IT stuff so here goes:
1. Problem occurring when opening and saving files in AI SC5 with Windows 7. (You will actually see a “Not Responding” word coming out while opening and saving files, whether small or large files)
2. Locked layers occasionally are moved accidentally.(Working on multiple layers is normal so we need to lock it specially the once on top. But there are times I still manage to select locked layers)
3. After typing and locking the text, pressing “V” for the arrow key shortcut is still added to the text that is locked. (After typing I lock the text layer with my mouse and Press “V” to activate the arrow key… yes the arrow key is activated but the text is still typing the actual keyboard pressed)
I’ve only use the brand new PC and installer for a month now. Not sure if this is compatibility issues or something else I’m not aware of.

Well I’m still wondering if it is compatibility issues because I’m also having problem with Photoshop CS5. These 3 are all bought at the same time (PC, Illustrator and Photoshop installers). The problem I’m having in Photoshop is not that too important, every time I Ctrl+O to view files, all PSD are shown in white paper like icons, no preview, and saving as well.
Or I just purchased a corrupted or pirated installers… Adobe updates are done every time I’m prompted.

Looks like. I tried in the TextEdit format tab to set all the combinations while opening the file, like plain text, rtf and html without success. Always I get the same signs.

Dreamweaver CS3 has begun suddenly quitting when opening some .aspx files - not all, just some. Other .aspx files open just fine. In most cases these files are virtually identical in every way from one to the next and still, one will open and the other will cause DW to crash. This problem just started about a week ago.
I have been running DWCS3 on the same Vista Ultimate machine for over 2 years now with Service Pack2 installed. Apart from these few .aspx files, the program is running as it always has... perfectly. Nothing has changed on the machine, nothing new is installed, and, as far as I know, no Windows updates have come through from MS.
I have tried bringing the files down from the remote server to see if my local copies were somehow corrupt but... same thing.
Any thoughts?

Font errror when opening some FrameMaker files

When opening some FrameMaker files in Windows 7, my clients are getting the following message:
The FrameMaker Console provides these details:
The "Arial Black Bolded" Font is not available.
"Arial Black Heavy" will be used in this session.
The "Arial Black" Font is not available.
"Arial Black Heavy" will be used in this session.
The "Arial Black Bolded Obliqued" Font is not available.
"Arial Black Heavy" will be used in this session.
Even if you click OK on that message, and save the file, the same message appears the next time the file is opened.
My clients had this same problem when we upgraded to Windows XP Service Pack 3. I found a resolution regarding the Windows XP OS on this forum, but it does not apply in this case. My clients have FrameMaker 9.0.4 installed and Windows 7 64-bit (we had 32-bit Windows XP). I appreciate your help.

The problem with changing the “Remember Missing Font Names” setting is that it causes all font substitutions to be accepted permanently. FrameMaker is currently making inappropriate substitions, for example so that our manual titles are not italicized as they should be.

Office 2013 applications cannot be made to show the "Documents" folder when opening and saving files

(Windows Server 2012R2 and Windows 8.1 PRO)
We are redirecting the user's "Documents" folder to the network (using Folder Redirection). The OS hides this fact however, and most applications simply see the "Documents" folder when opening or saving files, including Office 2003.
Office 2013 however displays the actual path, which in this case is:
\\sever1\redirect$\username\documents
Even if you forcibly set the "Default local file location:" in the Options Save area to the 'Documents' folder in, say, Word, Word immediately converts the local path to the network path.
Is there anyway to get Office 2013 to follow the virtual path? All of other apps follow it and expose the users only to "Documents".

There's nothing in my FAQ concerning screen savers, so I'm unsure why you decided to take that approach. From your description, it looks like you only tried a few of the suggestions before throwing in the towel. That's fine, it's your call.
I don't have the problems you described with 10.4.7. Usually when folks have problems after an update, these are caused by either installing an update on an already-corrutped system or they've installed third-party applications or hardware that have been rendered incompatible by the update.
Before installing software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.

Hi Guys,
We are installing solution manager 4.0 on windows/sql but we are getting following error and couldnt continue the installation
FKD-00070 Error when opening table container file C:\PROGRA1\SAPINS1\SOLMAN\SYSTEM\MSS\CENTRAL\AS\keydb.xml for writing. Possible reason: "read-only"

It sounds like you are getting an error from iTunes when you launch it. I would try the troubleshooting in this article named:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues

Start with troubleshooting for 3rd party plug ins section, then the rest of the article if needed:
Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
