Bug tracking and project workflow management

Hi,
I was wondering how bigger projects are managed so that everyone in the team knows what he has to do and what are current problems on the project, what is their status etc.
I googled for a while and found lots of sites that offer free hosting for web-based project management. I also found a web-based project managing solutions on sourceforge (phpcollab and itracker)
Our company is relatively small but there sometimes are bigger and long-lasting projects and sometimes the status is a complete mystery, nobody knows what are all the known bugs that he is responsible for and project current development/bug status.
We tried with worksheet(excel)-based tasklists but when number of items increased it turned to be impossible to find out what and when must be done.
Thank you for sharing your experience in this area
Mike

Thanks for that, please inform me if I found a wrong product : I found
http://scarab.tigris.org/ as a project home.
It is not the setup that worries me, I mentioned web-based tools because for the current time there is no collaboration with external parties and I want the entire project management centralized in the company

  • After installing and configuring Workflow Manager and Service Bus, I'm getting 403.

I've spent the day installing SharePoint 2013 on a Windows Server 2012 environment. This server is not the domain controller. Following instructions on how to install and configure Workflow Manager and service bus, it appears although I'm following the instructions
(and I get no errors), something is not working.
If I try to go to the website that it creates in IIS
http://localhost:12291 I get a 403 error. Also if I perform the powershell query to get the port number "Get-WFFarm | ft WFMgmtHttpPort" I don't get any value returned to me.
Until I validate that the Workflow Manager is installed and working, I will not attempt to pair it to the SharePoint 2013 farm. Which hopefully makes this a Workflow Manager question not a SharePoint issue.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please? Should I even get a valid webpage if I hit localhost:12291? According to one walkthrough I've looked at I should get an XML display of workflow and security configurations.

I experienced the same two issues mentioned in this thread today.
Regarding  the proper XML not appearing at <workflowhost>:12291 I was experiencing the same with an error message in Chrome saying the caller lacked read permissions, and 403 in IE. I had checked IIS, database permissions and connections and more.
All of the setup messages and status checks were a-okay. I voted Zimo's comment as helpful because it cued me in to examine the service in Central Administration - where I found there was no administrator assigned to the workflow service. As soon as that was
done, the workflow host site was brows-able.
The resolution to SharePoint Designer not offering 2013 workflows as an option was in my case that there was an additional WFE on which I had not installed the Workflow Manager
Client. This is noted with a bright yellow box in the section about configuring workflow with HTTP here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj658588(v=office.15)
If puzzles are good for your BRAIN then SharePoint will keep it really healthy!

  • CJIA report and project cash management

    Dear all,
please help on the following issue.
i activate FM for project cash managment.
i assign material to the internal activity, release the project, run project MRP and convert the PR to PO.
then i run CJIA report, i can see the PO with value type 51, PO amount 40000.
    below is the line item
    2009.11.11     WBS I-0001   51     4,000.00-RMB     4,000.00-RMB
i do MIGO for the PO. and check the CJIA report, no change.
i do MIRO for the PO and then check the report, i see the PO (value type 41)value is reduced to 0.
another line with value type 54 appears with the amount 40000.
    2009.11.11     WBS I-0001   51                  0RMB                  0RMB
    2009.11.11     WBS I-0001   54     4,000.00-RMB     4,000.00-RMB
i think that is correct, because i do the MIRO for the PO.
next, i use F-53 to post the payment for PO. i check the report, no change.
then, i run CJFN to transfer the payment. i check the report again, the line with value type 54 was changed to value type 57.
    2009.11.11     WBS I-0001   51                  0RMB                  0RMB
    2009.11.11     WBS I-0001   57     4,000.00-RMB     4,000.00-RMB
i am not sure whether it is correct or not. in the report,  it seems the balance is not zero. though the value type is changed.
    the report looks akward.
can you give me some ideas or suggestions?
    thanks a lot
    Judy

    Hi Judy,
What you have done is correct.
The total of all lines need not be zero as the report lists down the debit/credit side payments viz what we are supposed to pay due to a PR, or a PO or what are the actual payments that we have made. This helps us in planning for cashflows by showing projected or actual payments made/received

  • Which tools best for which tasks and project workflow planning?

I am just getting comfortable with the basics of several CS tools and often need to use more than one to build a final product. Since I don't have a long history with the tools I still struggle learning which tool to use for specific tasks and then how best to use the variety of created assets in the various programs.
Currently using CS4 After Effects, Flash, and Photoshop to create web flash swf files. Most books, forums, tutorials, etc. focus on a given tool and how to use its features. I have looked but not found books that take you through a project start to end that spans several tools and using the best parts of each to accomplish pieces of the finished project.
Also, I find getting assets from one tool to the next does not always work out so well. For example, a text layer in AE can be exported a couple ways but by the time it gets into Flash it no longer retains the original text layer and is either rasterized or broekn up. So that is where better understanding workflow, if that is the right term, might help me ensure I use the right tool at the right time in the right order to minimize these kinds of problems.

The guys from Waterloo labs did something similar: http://goo.gl/JkOy
They used a sbRIO, which is very similar to myRIO and you should have no problem doing this with myRIO.  More info on their setup can be found here: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/11966/en/.  You may even be able to re-use some of their code.

  • Oracle Workflow Manager, Agent Listener, and Java Mailer problem

    Hi,
I am not sure this topic to this forum, since this might be installation issue.
But I am hitting a big wall.
    I had Windows 2000 SP4.
I have already installed Oracle Database 10gR1, Oracle Developer 10gR2, and Oracle Workflow 2.6.3 Standalone previously.
    Including :
    - Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3
    - Oracle Workflow Builder 2.6.3.5
    - Apache HTTP Server 9.0.4
    - Workflow Middle Tier
Anything seems to right, including the Notification Mailer and the Business Event.
And I had also made backup of them surely.
    Now,
I'd like to change into Oracle Database 10gR2 because :
    1. Some errors I found when I tried to call a Report from Oracle Form.
Unable to connect to Report Server ...
I thought Oracle Database 10gR1 is not suitable for Oracle Developer 10gR2.
    2. And in the OWF 2.6.3 Workflow Home Page, there was no Logout button (which I found in OWF 2.6.4)
I removed my previous installation including Oracle Workflow.
After strugglineg in the installation of Oracle Database 10gR2, now I am facing another problem with Oracle Workflow.
I succesfully installed Oracle Workflow 2.6.4 Server and Oracle Workflow Manager (standalone version),
and the Oracle Workflow Middle Tier.
After I launch Oracle Workflow Configuration Assisstant, everthing seems to be normal.
I succed to open the Oracle Workflow Home Page (and found the Logout button there)
Next, I tried to navigate to the Oracle Workflow Manager.
    1. I start the OC4J_Workflow_Management_Container --> initialized
    2. OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container
The following error line appeared in the OC4J command prompt
    06/05/26 10:31:40 LOG_ID_UNKNOWN : oracle.apps.fnd.cp.gsc.Logger.Logger(String,
int) : Logging to System.out until necessary parameters are retrieved for Logger

    getNewWorkflowContext() : BEGIN

    06/05/26 10:33:57 Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE 10g (9.0.4.1.0)
    initialized
    3. finally it initialized
Next I tried to go to Oracle Workflow Manager from related link of Enterprise Manager
It is said that the OWF_MGR is locked
(I surprised since I had UNLOCKED the OWF_MGR after the installation and succeed to login at the Workflow Home Page)
And the following error line appeared in the commaned prompt after that
06/05/26 10:35:03 OrionCMTConnection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 Logical connection not closed, check your code!
06/05/26 10:35:03 (Use -Djdbc.connection.debug=true to find out where the leaked
    connection was created)
    4. I re-UNLOCK the OWF_MGR and login to Oracle Workflow Manager
I noticed that the Agent Listener and Notification Service is Unavailable
(In OWF 2.6.3, The Agent Listener was started and Notification Service was waiting to be configured)
I tried to start one of the Agent Listener, but the following error appeared
ERROR: The Service Component Container is not running
Well, I had the same problem when installing the OWF 2.6.3
I tried to uninstall (remove) and re-install it like I had done before in OWF 2.6.3
(based on someone's post in Oracle's forum)
But this time, the re-installation won't fix this problem. (It was succeed in the OWF 2.6.3)
    Everytime I start the OC4J, using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
    the OWF_MGR is re-LOCKED(TIME) automatically.
And the servlet (WFALSNRSVC and WFMLRSVC) are not running.
I am worry, since I cannot use the Notification Mailer if this problem had not fixed yet.
(In OWF 2.6.3, the mailer was not available until those servlet is Started)
    Sorry for the long post.
    Any help would be grateful.
    Many thanks,
    Buntoro

    Hi,
Finally, I have found the solution.
    Step :
    1. Start all of the Oracle Service, except for the OC4J
If you have already started OC4J, then stop them
    Unlocked the <wf_manager_user>
    2. Search in your Oracle Home : data-sources.xml
    There should be two files,
    one is in the ...\OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container\application-deployments\WFALSNRSVCApp
    the other is in ...\OC4J_Workflow_Component_Container\application-deployments\WFMLRSVCApp
    3. Make sure, you create back up of them.
    4. Replace the following line
    password="-&gt;pwForOwfMgr"
    with
    password="<your_wf_manager_password>",
    should be look like this
    password="a"
    5. Now start the OC4J using wfmgrstart.bat and wfsvcstart.bat
    6. Next, login to the Oracle Workflow Manager
    This worked for me.
Hope this will help someone who has the same problem.

  • Project Server 2013 for Resource Planning & Project Portfolio Management

We are looking to  use project server 2013 for resource and project portfolio management.  We are an IT department of approximately 600 growing to 1,000 within the next several years.
We would like to us PS2013 to do the following :
    Manage Portfolio of Projects
    Manage Resources against this Portfolio
Calculate Project Finances using resource roles and rates
I would be grateful to have both comments on experience , both positive and negative.
    Thank You

Many teams within organizations are turning to Project Server to help them control resources, deliverables and costs better.    It does resource management very well with work & cost resources, baseline costs, material costs, budget costs and
out of the box earned value analysis (EV).  The Strategy (portfolio) component is very powerful and it will help you identify project that align to your objects then do what if analysis to find the right mix of projects.
Here are a couple of things you should think about when moving to PS2013:
    1) Who will be using the tool?  If it is a mix of onsite staff, remote staff, vendors, contractors etc. you may want to think about a hosted solution.
    2) Training.  Don't assume everyone will just magically 'know' how to use the tool.  Train everyone (team members, PMs, Executives) then train them again.  It's the only way to truly get the value out of the tool.
    3) Who will manage the system?  This is not a typical application.  The right administrator needs SharePoint, Project Server, SQL Server,  MS Project, Analysis Services and SQL Report writing skills.  Please note that much of this can
be learned by the right person but DEFINITELY find the right person.
    4) Don't start customizing right out of the box.  You will get frustrated.  Adjust your organization to the tool early on.  I know that is easier said than done but you need a realistic approach to get tool acceptance moving early.
    5) Use workflows but don't use them right out of the gate.  Workflows are great but I suggest you wait until phase 2 or 3 to start aligning them to your business processes.
    6) Lastly and most importantly, you must first establish your own business processes THEN  align them to the tool.  DO NOT assume the tool will create business process for you.  You must think about how you are going to initiate a project,
how are you going to track deliverables, how will time sheets be managed, etc.  Get to a whiteboard, crack open Visio and start building and establishing your processes now.  PS 2013 is pretty flexible and usually will align well with existing business
    processes.
And don't forget to hire a good consultant.  They can be brought in during key phases of your roll-out to add value, help you avoid risks, and provide you with best practice advice.
    Good luck.

  • Bug Tracker Updates?

    Hi,
I know this is a shot in the dark, but has anyone updated the example Bug Tracker application? We've used it for some individual projects in the past and noticed that there were several bugs in the application. If not, then it's not a big issue.
    Thanks,
    Martin

Imagine that, bugs in the BUG TRACKER..... (Sorry, couldn't resist...) :) But seriously, I have started making some modifications to this product to support bug tracking for an application I am helping with. First off, I am moving the authentication from being APEX Users to table based (seems there was some work started on this before it was released...) Also looking at adding some more reports and such in the future, and also looking at it being a bug tracker and enhancements request collection tool...
Just need some time to do all this ..
    Thank you,

  • Password for a new bug tracker user

I installed bug tracker and it works fine. When I created a user I didn't find where to provide/change password. When I got login screen and type new user name, I don't know what is the password. How to set password for the new user in bug tracker?

It means that you can copy and paste an encrypted password from configuration file. Of course, passwords are encrypted if password-encryption service is enabled. Otherwise passwords are stored in plaintext in configuration files.

  • Workflow Manager Configuration - Certificate with Thumbprint does not have a private key

After following the video series on how to install and Configure Workflow Manager into SharePoint 2013 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn201724(v=office.15).aspx,
I get to the 'Configure Certificates' section in the Workflow Manager Configuration:  I browse to our wildcard certificate and select it.
When I try to move to the next page of the configuration wizard, I get the following red error under the certificate:
Certificate with thumbprint LONG STRING does not have a private key.
I checked the properties of the certificate, and it says: You have a private key that corresponds to this certificate.
    What am I missing??
    Thank you.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got error under the certificate.
Please make sure you configure the workflow manager correctly.

  • Workflow manager .. certificate generation key or cert

Hello. Thanks for the time.  I was wondering if I can get some enlightment on the SP 2013 workflow manager  configuration.  In the technet video series one of the steps is to create a certificate and use that... but in most install docs
I've found the step is skipped and set to choose an auto generate a cert with a key... like the farm passphrase.  My question is really in regards to what is the difference and can we have that set for in production? or is the auto-generate only for dev
    and testing?

    Hi,
    Quote:
Under some circumstances, you must obtain and install Workflow Manager "issuer" certificates on SharePoint Server 2013. Here are the circumstances where you must install Workflow Manager certificates:
If SSL is enabled either on SharePoint Server 2013 (which is not the default) or on Workflow Manager (which is the default), AND
If SharePoint Server 2013 and Workflow Manager do not share a Certificate Authority, AND
If Workflow Manager is configured to generate self-signed certificates (which is the default).

  • Workflow manager 1.0 : runtime error 400 running Add-WFHost "The api-version in the query string is not supported"

Installing Workflow Manager 1.0 for SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 everything is fine until the last step of the configuration and last powershell command :
    Add-WFHost -WFFarmDBConnectionString 'myconnectionstring' -RunAsPassword $WFRunAsPassword -EnableFirewallRules $true -SBClientConfiguration $SBClientConfiguration -CertificateAutoGenerationKey $WFCertAutoGenerationKey -Verbose;
gives me the following error :
Add-WFHost : The remote server returned an error: (400) Bad Request. The api-version in the query string is not supported. Either remove it from the Uri or use one of '2012-03'..TrackingId:412684e3-3539-468e-91e6-17838c6eaa55_GS

Can't find anything about this subject except this
thread which does not help me that much in SharePoint dev env ...
Removing workflow manager 1.0 and service bus (leave the farm using wizzard, remove binaries and databases) does not help.
Who already faces this issue and how can I try to resolve it ?
    Best regards !
    Alexandre DAVID

The API version is hardcoded in Microsoft.ServiceBus.dll, which ships as part of the Service Bus. Each version of this lib has a different string.
If you install workflow manager 1.0, here are the pre-requisites:
.NET Framework 4 Platform Update 3 or .NET Framework 4.5
    Service Bus 1.0
    Workflow Client 1.0
    PowerShell 3.0
The following are the pre-requisites to configure Workflow Manager 1.0
    Instance of SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1, SQL Server Express 2008 R2 SP1, or SQL Server 2012.
TCP/IP connections or named pipes must be configured in SQL Server.
Windows Firewall must be enabled. [Windows Firewall is Off on target server]
Ports 12290 and 12291 must be available.
Here are the reference for installing and configuring Workflow Manager 1.0:

  • SharePoint 2013 - Cannot connect or Register WorkFlow Manager with error "The data or messaging layer is unavailable. Please retry after 300 seconds"

    Hi
I have SharePoint 2013 farm and installed Workflow Manager 1.0 and configured it and have been runing fine for several months.  I upgraded this farm to SP 1 and then started having some issue with publish WF 2013 with task in SPD.
I re-Registered using Register-SPWorkflowService command and that fixed the problem and WorkFlow Manager running again OK. It has been couple of monthle and now I am having the problem again but with a different error on SPD
So doing what I did before, I tried to re-Registered WFM but this time getting the error below
Register-SPWorkflowService : The data or messaging layer is unavailable. Please retry
    after 300 seconds.
The only possible resolution that I found is to add the -AllowOAuthHttp in my Register-SPWorkflowService cmdlet but that didnot not resolve the problem.  I tried that anyway eventhough we do not allow http.
I did some checking for status and configuration and Get-SBFarmstatus showing all WFM services are running OK
I browsed to the WFM server https://servername:12290  and get the same error
    - <Errorxmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    <Code>UnexpectedError</Code>
<Message>The data or messaging layer is unavailable. Please retry after 300
    seconds.</Message>
    </Error>
If anyone have advise / suggestion to resolve this issue, please share
Thanks in advance for all comments

    Hi Swanl,
Please refer to the article below for troubleshooting actions for workflow manager:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vincent_runge/archive/2014/01/07/troubleshooting-actions-for-sharepoint-2013-workflows.aspx
Moreover, activate workflow manager logs and see if there is any error message that could be help.
