Building base dimensions for an outline dynamically

I am trying to figure out a way to build my dimensions dynamically. I'm not referring to the members in the dimension,but the dimension itself. For example, when you create a new app and db and you view the outline in app mgr, all you see is the database name. How can I create the base dimension via a text file. Any help would be appreciated.

You can build all of your dimensions from scratch, starting from an empty outline, using a text file with one of the dimension names as its only data.Create a new load rule, then go to Options, Dimension Build Settings. On the Dimension Definition tab, click the option button for Rules File.Then, establish each dimension using the Name textbox and Add button. You can set each dimension's properties (dimension type, etc.) using the Properties button. You can't do Label Only, though, if you're not going to build any members under the dimensions.The load rule needs at least one non-ignored column of data, so pull in a text file that has just one string--one of your dimension names. Set the dimension build settings for that dimension to be Level, then define the column as Level 0 for that dimension.Good luck,Jared

Basis for creating the dimension for the cube

Dear All,
I have one basic query.
We can build the ODS and pull data from source system to BW system. But now if i am suppose to build the Cube for my reporting then how do i make decision to build dimension for the cube?
I mean what are the parameters which we need to consider before we build the dimension for the cube and what type of objects will be there in each dimension??

Hi,
There is as no thmb rule for it. Generally we try to balance the dimension when we create them. For example, It is not advisable to include Material and Vendor in a single dimension.(otherwise it will lead to dimension explosion...large no. of records in a single dimension.)
The idea of dimension tables is to group associated characteristics to reduce the number of fields in the fact table and to reduce redundancies in storing frequent combinations of
characteristics values in a table. Examples of characteristics typically grouped into one dimension include Customer, Customer Group, and Zip Code grouped into a Customer
dimension, and Material, Material Group, Color grouped into a Material dimension.
A special case of a dimension is the line-item dimension, which is used for characteristics with a very high cardinality. Atypical example is the document number in a lineitem-
level InfoCube.

How to create Base Dimensions with MaxL and Text File?

Hi,
Doing a scratch rebuild of a cube every month. Don't want to have a 'dummy' outline with base dimensions to copy over every build. Instead want to build from text file somehow. Thus my plan is to: 1) Delete the existing app/db 2) Create a new blank app/db 3) Create the base dimensions in the outline via text file and 4) Build entire outline via a text file. I'm stuck on #3 how to get the 'base dimensions' built via text file. I need:

I see this MaxL, but it uses a 'rules file' and I never have built a rules file to create base dims so I'm confused if it's possible or not...

We rebuild our Departments and Organization from an enterprise hierarchy master each week.
The way we implemented (what you call #3) was to not do #1 and #2, but to have a "destructive" load rule for each of these dimensions using a text file. (in the "Dimension Build Settings" for the load rule, select "Remove Unspecified" to make it destructive)
The text file just has the dimension name (parent) and any children we needed defined in a parent/child relationship. For instance
"Sales Departments" "0100-All Departments"
This essentially works the same as deleting the app because the destructive load rules will drop all the blocks of data that were unspecified.
Then we run our SQL load rule to build the rest of the dimensions from the Location Master.
We perform a level-0 export prior to this process, then reload the level-0 data and execute all the consolidation scripts to get the data back (now in a current enterprise defined hierarchy)

Can we build dimensions in empty outline using "DynamicDimensionBuild" meth

Hi there........ Iam trying to build dimension in outline which is empty by using "dynamic dimension Build" Method... it is saying the error is "Database outline is empty".
But Whenever outline contains one or more dimensions then I can build another dimensions using dynamic dimension build method...... I have a doubt that is empty outline wont allow dynamic dimension build method......?

Packer Arch: a template for building Arch base boxes for Vagrant

I thought some people might be interested in my Packer Arch project. It is a bare bones Packer template and installation script that can be used to generate a Vagrant base box for Arch Linux. The template works for both Vagrant's default VirtualBox provider as well as the VMware provider.
If you're not familiar with Vagrant, it's a way to "create and configure lightweight, reproducible, and portable development environments"...basically an incredibly easy way to spawn temporary virtual machines that you can use for testing/developing anything. In my case I launch Arch VMs to test out Ansible automated configuration tasks that I use to manage some personal servers. Anyway, hope somebody else finds it useful.

Absolutely right. I purposefully wanted to recreate a system that you'd see either out in the wild when purchasing a VPS, or what you'd have after performing a fresh installation from the latest ISO on your own hardware. Even though my end goal was to test Ansible, I didn't include its dependency of Python 2 directly in the build process, but kept things as minimal as possible and use a bootstrap script to handle dependencies after the fact. If you're interested in using Ansible to manage Arch hosts, I did write a quick blog post on my bootstrap process:

Error message when building an application for Labview PDA

When using LabView PDA module to build an application for a PDA target, I receive the following message: "Error building executable. Unable to create file". Why is this happening?
When looking at the error log, it reads "The system cannot find the file specified."
This happens even when looking at one of the Labview PDA example VI's, so it is not a result of the VI containing functions of features not supported by Labview PDA.
When installing Labview PDA, I installed files as follows, and in this order:
(i) Labview 7.1 (installed previously)
(ii) Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0
(iii) Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 SP 3.0
(iv) Microsoft SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PCs
(v) Microsoft ActiveSync 3.8
(vi) NI Labview 7.1 PDA module for PocketPC
(vii) DAQmx Base 1.0 for PDA or later
Any ideas?

Did you attempt to add the _wordsub.llb and _excelsub.llb files to the application as support files? I believe in LabVIEW 8.0 instead of adding the entire LLBs you should just add the _Word Dynamic VIs.vi and _Excel Dynamic VIs.vi as dynamic VIs. I think I've seen a similar post on the discussion forums in the past that recommended this.
If this suggestion doesn't help, please reply, and attach a simple VI and .lvproj file demonstrating the problem so I can investigate further.

Deciding the structure completely depends on the business. Without the understanding of the business, it will be very difficult to propose what dimensions are required.
However, few pointers. I am not sure, what is the basis for considering volume, cost, and revenue. Usually, I will keep one application for calculating revenue. Revenue will be calculated as volume * unit price. So, there will be 3 account members - revenue, volume, and unit price. This particular application should have
Account, Time, Category, Entity, Rptcurrency
You can have more dimensions also, based on the business need.

 I took a look at the javadocs for both 7.1.3 and 9.3.0 and didn't see anything that I thought would do it. I also contacted one of the JAPI developers and he doesn't think that functionality is supported yet either. I wonder if, perhaps, you could go about it the other way and: 1. get a list of IEssDimensions; 2. for each IEssDimension object, if it is a 'real' dimension and not an attribute dimension, get the dimension menber IEssMember object; 3. get the list of associated attributes by calling IEssMember.getAssociatedAttributes. 4. get the dimension info from the IEssMember objects returned from the call in step 3 and build your own structure to store the info.. When Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP is released will it support AIR 3.2 ???

We've all been waiting a long time since last November's Private Beta of Flash Builder 4.6 which was released shortly thereafter, for the Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP version.
However, Flash Builder 4.6 for PHP (The one with Zend Studio included in it) is scheduled for 2012 - Q1 release, meaning?
I guess, at the latest March 31st.
This is significant, because AIR 3.2 is Great, but it will Live or Die based on what happens, I believe, in the next year, the new demo with the 2 geniuses at Adobe, Lee Brimelow and Thibault Imbert, which essentially ARE the driving intellectual force behind AIR, make me feel more comfortable than the management at Adobe,

There's another thing, there are a ton of job offerings for iOS 5 or Android Java, but no AIR (very few and the damage control fromthe eff'ed up press release is still meandering).
Adobe needs to compliment its consumer base and developer base, with a Developer Network for Corporate integration so there are contracts out there for us who live between our dream ideas and meals, by doing contracting work, and it'd be nice to do it in Flash Builder 4.6 instead of taking on an iOS 5 or Android Java or PhoneGap project. I worked it out in the end - I had to uninstall FB4.5 and reboot. Why couldn't the installation say so instead of just crashing? I found this out, by the way, by trying to run the installer created under c:\program files(x86)\adobe\adobe flash builder 4.6. That one told me at least that I had to uninstall a previous version, though even then it was coy about which one

Combine year + period as one dimension for data input

Existing Hyperion Planning has 2 dimension to keep the year and period. Our users would like to have the data entry web form title to show the year+period e.g. Jan 2009 instead of two rows. Is it very difficult to build such a label or a dimension for data input?

Because there are 12 months in a year and they need to input more than 10 years budget, the label on the web form is not easy to view from our end user point of view. They say that sometimes they will input data in the wrong year. So they prefer to the column label as Jan2009, Feb2009, etc instead.

[SOLVED] Error building vanilla kernel for PS3

I installed all the base packages for ArchPPC and have chrooted into it. I downloaded/uncompressed kernel 2.6.24 from kernel.org and ran `cp arch/powerpc/configs/ps3_defconfig .config`. The first time, I went straight to make after that. That gave me the error "linux-2.6.24/scripts/gcc-version.sh: line 26: printf: #: invalid number". So I ran pacman -Sy gcc3, then edited my Makefile setting HOSTCC=gcc-3.3, HOSTCXX=g++-3.3, and CC=gcc-3.3.
Now when I run make (after doing make clean) the first error I get is:
include/asm/mmu-hash64.h:437: error: `SID_SHIFT' undeclared (first use in this function)
Any ideas?

You need a ppc64 cross-compiler to build a ps3 kernel. You can use the crosstool pkgbuilds from here: http://kth5.telekommunisten.net/archlinux/crosstools/
All you need to do is to replace the 32 bit ppc targets with powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu and it should build fine.

Conjoin dimension limited to its base dimension is too slow

Our application has a conjoin dimension conjdim including 4 base dimensions, the definition is
DEFINE CONJDIM DIMENSION <BaseDim1 BaseDim2 Basedim3 BaseDim4> BTREE
CONJDIM has 21 millions values while BaseDim4 has 130 values. In middle of application,

However the last limit command took very long time (more than 15 minutes) !! which doesn't make sense ?!
Since we use KEEP in limit command, it should reduce the statue of CONJDIM from 3487 values to 2610 values,
the OLAP data searching is only against small data range no matter how big the CONJDIM's original size is, correct ?
That's OLAP's multi-dimension operation benefit. But our operation is so slow, what is the issue ??

I suspect that it is the transfers occurring at g speeds that is causing your backups to be so slow. I did my initial backup wirelessly using 802.11n (5 GHz only) and it took about 20 hours to backup about 80 GB.
Here is the setup I now use, thanks to a lot of help from other posters both here and over at Macrumors: My TC is directly connected to the cable modem with Ethernet. It is also directly connected via Ethernet to the router for my original 802.11g network, a Belkin Pre-N. The TC is set in bridge mode, 802.11n (5 GHz only). The Belkin provides all routing and is set for 802.11b.g only.
Before my current setup, I used the TC as a separate router on its own n network. I soon gave up on this configuration, though, because it required me to from the n network to the g when I wanted to print and then back to the n network for backups. The speed of backups has been the same using the one network configuration as it was when I was doing them with the n only network.

How to build a wsdl which can cater dynamically to number of attachments

We have a WebService client that calls a Webservice on the Server.
When the client calls the webservice , it passes the SOAP message(Header,Body & MIME attachments)and these attachments vary in number based on different business requirements.
We know how to build WSDL for server with static number of attachments,but no clue on how to build a wsdl which can cater dynamically to number of attachments comming from client request.

We may have multiple approaches here depending of :
- which version of the product you are using
- what are your clients in term of stack, and API they are willing to use
- which encoding did you use for your WS (swa, swaRef or dime)
So for my answer I am documenting how to do it on OracleAS 10gR3 (10.1.3), using swaRef approach.
The easiest way is to exchange array of binary data and describle that in the WSDL, so in my case the WSDL element that is used will look like that:

information about an audio codec, but it doesn't really help all
that much in learning if there is a way to tell if there is an

BAPI to build target group for segments

Hi all,
I looking for a BAPI that builds target group for segments and not for profile sets.
Transaction CRMD_MKTSEG allows to create TG in two ways :
- Build for Profile SET
- Build for Selected segment
BAPI_TARGETGROUP_CREATE is like u201CBuild for Profile SETu201D, since it requires a profile set guid as input
I have not found anything to u201CBuild for Selected segmentu201D, putting as input only a Profile.
The reason is that I need to "refresh" every day the target group and it is possible only if I create a TG for segment and not for profile set. In this second case the TG is frozen and no more refreshable,

Hi Emanuele,
There are three types of Segments:- Profile Sets, Target Groups, Profiles.
(You can check this yourself:- Go inside Find segments, then choose Advanced Search. You will get option to find Marketing Segments based on whether they are Profile sets or Target Groups or Profiles )
It means Profile Sets is also a type of Segment. So i am bit confused with your question.
If i understand your question correctly, you simply want to create a target group which should be refreshed automatically on a daily basis.
You can very well achieve this daily refresh by building the Target Group in Background Mode. While creating a Target Group there are two modes possible :- 1)Build Target Group in Dialog Mode 2)In Background Mode.
So u need to build your Target group in background mode and While creating the Target Group in Background mode:-
Select the Checkbox "Active"
Do not select the checkbox "Modelling Completed".
