C'mon Verizon...

I just purchased a new iPad Mini with Verizon LTE (Naturally I was very excited). I chose Verizon since I have a plan here, and have until recently had a good experience with them. I purchased a prepaid plan for 20 bucks a month (1 gig). Strait forward enough, except my iPad kept telling me my cellular network could not be activated. I spent 2 hours troubleshooting with reps on the phone, going through the process of reprovisioning my account, resetting the ipad, etc etc. Nothing worked, so the technical service person refunded me my 20 bucks, and suggested I get a new sim card at the Verizon store. He also suggested to let the Verizon Rep from the wireless store set it up to make sure everything was Kosher.
I go back to the Verizon store, and let the rep know what was going on - including the fact that I specifically wanted the 20$ month-month plan. She said no problem, took my iPad, and started setting it up. She handed it back to me in working condition. I was quite happy and excited. However, the issues started coming back. I thought it might have been a problem with the billing so I called to make sure everything was in order. Turns out, instead of paying 20 bucks a month, I was set up with a completely new plan. My first bill went from 20$ to a nice 94$. Apparently, I was set up with talk (ON AN IPAD???) data, surcharges, activation fee, etc. Best part is - my iPad still can't activate the wireless network.
Completely and utterly disappointed in Verizon.

Ouch! i thought those things were Data Only and No Voice but my self i haven't looked into one but i was thinking it was a Data only Device Wow. No fun there all... Sorry for the Headache  b33

  • C'MON VERIZON, Let's get that Z10 software update out.

My contract is done tomorrow and I want a new Z10. Won't do it until they upgrade the OS.....so VZW, let's get a move on!!

I have multiple problems with the BB Z10 on Verizon and after taking these issues to the highest BB tech level was told they are fixed in the new release and until Verizon releases the update their hands are tied. I'm beginning to question if Verizon is delaying purposefully to sabotage the BB in favor of other brands they profit more from.  I suggested BB look into this because if it is not true it sure looks that way.  I like the Z10 but I am quickly thinking AT&T and the others are looking much better.  I have been with Verizon a long time but I will change and that is looking more likely ever day.  Suggest waiting to get the new BB if you are on Verizon or better yet get one from a different carrier.

  • Verizon Max Plan

I'm about to call it quits with Verizon after 4 years with a family plan of 5 lines...
December of 2013 I was looking to upgrade my phone but was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan.   I talked to two representatives on the phone and one in a store about what my options were if I wanted to keep my data and was told by all that either I would have to buy a new phone at full price or switch to a 2gb plan for $30 a month.  After a lot of hesitation, I finally got into a 2gb plan and just dealt with it.
In February my sister in law who was on my family plan was in the same situation with an unlimited data plan and wanted to upgrade her phone.  The first person she talked to quickly told her about the Verizon Max plan where people who had an unlimited plan could upgrade there phones and get a 6gb plan for the same $30 a month.  She liked that compromise and went with the plan.
I found out about that and did some research and found that that exact plan was being offered while I was going through my upgrade process.  I called VZW customer support and asked if I could get on that plan as I was in the EXACT same situation when I was upgrading but was never told/offered the Verizon Max plan.  The customer service rep said I was ineligible because I was outside of the window where they could make changes to plans.  She told me that I probably wasn't offered the plan because I didn't use hardly any data in the previous year.  I explained to her that I was in an area that wasn't supported by Verizon Data (only 1x was available, no 3g or LTE) and didn't have an opportunity to even use the data but stayed with Verizon for that year because I had liked the unlimited data and had good experiences with VZW so far.  After a bit of back and forth, she was not budging as I didn't qualify for the upgrade because it was too late to make changes and that I didn't use data anyway, so what did it matter.
Now I have a plan 1/3 the size of my sister in law for the same price because I apparently didn't talk to well informed VZW employees or, more of what I'm thinking the problem is, I'm not as attractive as my sister in law and have to find out for myself the deals that Verizon is offering instead of having them told to me.
Either way, unless we can come up with some sort of solution for how VZW is going to treat their customers fairly, I'll be leaving them for another provider...
C'mon Verizon, step up your game and correct this.

I realize that the plan is only offered when switching from unlimited data to a tiered data plan.  That is the reason I am here now is because I switched from an unlimited data plan to a tiered data plan while this deal was being offered but was never told by the 3 Verizon employees about the Max plan.
I was hoping that we could work something out but it seems all I'm going to get is an apology for not offering the plan when I was eligible and for not being able to do anything to fix that.
I'll be cancelling my service with you in hopes of finding another provider that appreciates a loyal customer who pays their $250+ bill on time each month.

  • Verizon allowing spam texts from obvious bad emails

So how many of you got a spam text from [email protected], with the x's being the first 10 digits of your cell phone number, last night?
It says it's from Bank of America and to call 575-904-7333.
A few months ago I got one from 999-999-9999 and another time I got a text spam from "9".
Obviously Verizon could easily stop these types of spam text but either 1. Verizon is making money on them. 2. It's an inside job 3. both 1 and 2.
C'mon Verizon. Is your system really that stupid? I doubt it.

You can also go into your MyVerizon account online and block all text messages from the Web to prevent the majority of those types of messages from ever reaching your phone.

  • Can't view data charges online

Ok we have 3 non smart phones on our family plan and have data blocks on them as we do not use data at all.   I check the accounts weekly for any unusual things and last week noticed minimal data charges on sons account 4 days in a row.  He is in another state for 10 weeks and bikes to work evey day so I asked him about it and he said he was putting the phone in his pocket so I figured the button to connect to the net must have got hit while biking and it was trying to connect it's an ENV2 phone so told him to turn it off and put it in his back pack to avoid this.
Now this week when I log in and check the accounts I can see data usage for hubby and I and there is none as should be but for sons line when I try and see the data usage it says your current data usage information is not available at this time.  Please check back later.  It's been saying this for about 4 days now so what gives?  Have not called yet so will do so tomorrow if it's still saying that.    Mary

Below is a recent post of mine on another thread and I have updated it with some new information that may be helpful to others suffering from "uninitiated data charges".
I had the very same uninitiated data charges problem and customer service claimed these charges to be valid. I don't possibly see how uninitiated data session charges can be considered valid.
Back in 2010 Verizon was fined by the FCC the largest fine ever levied against a wireless company. 25 million and agreed to refund customers over 50 million dollars. Why? Due to uninitiated data session charges!  Washington Post article below at:
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/28/AR2010102806478.html
They seem to be up to their old tricks...
The best way to make Verizon pay attention is not just switching carriers. The best way is filing a complaint with the FCC. Or do both! It's very easy to file a complaint (an easy form) with the FCC do it here>
    https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form2000.action?form_type=2000B
The problem would be termed "uninitiated data session charges".
As mentioned in previous posts by myself and others there has been mysterious data session charges on our bills that were uninitiated by us. My repeated calls to Verizon customer service has resulted in no explanation for these uninitiated data session charges, only the response from CS (Customer Service) that these charges are valid.
My research of the past few weeks has shown that these charges, as mentioned, were uninitiated by the user and are (at
minimum) a result of a program placed by Verizon within the operating system of at least two Verizon models produced by LG. This program initiates the data exchanges that we are billed for, have to pay and have been paying.
Due to a lack of a significant response or resolution on the matter I filed a complaint with the FCC. The action of the FCC was swift in notifying Verizon of my complaint and charges.
Then “lo and behold”  I receive a phone call from a Jennifer Rathburn (770) 521-5636 of the Verizon Executive offices in Atlanta notifying me that they would like to resolve this matter with me. Jennifer’s demeanor and action seems to indicate that she would like to satisfy me and would be investigating my complaint regarding the uninitiated data session charges because they care about their customers. It would, however, be tough to convince me of that, as I believe I would never have gotten ANY resolution short of my filing a complaint with the FCC. At present Verizon has until June 29, 2012 to respond to FCC in regards to my complaint.
Over 6 months of complaints to their CS and I never got any type of action or explanation of the data session charges except for them to say that the charges were valid. I heard the phrase,“these charges are valid” so many times from so many different CS reps that it seemed the reps were trained to give that response. I finally got one of the CS reps to admit that actually was the case. They WERE trained to give that response.
You may also find it interesting to read the FCC Consent Decree, which Verizon agreed to in 2010 to stop the FCC
investigation. You can do that here http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DA-10-2068A2.pdf
In the Decree, Verizon Wireless represents that:
    the Company conducted a comprehensive, good-faith, internal investigation into whether Paygo customers had been incorrectly billed for data usage;
    (ii) based on the internal investigation, the Company has concluded that the majority of the erroneous charges involved data exchanges caused by third-party software (created by a third-party but they left out the part saying they had placed it there) built into certain customers’ phones, while other charges resulted from, inter alia, customers accessing certain web links that should not have incurred charges, devices that incurred charges for attempts to access data when there was insufficient network coverage to complete the transfer, and unwanted third-party data transfers affecting customers with content filters;
(iii) based on the internal investigation, the Company has further determined that a total of approximately 15 million Paygo Customers were, or may have been, erroneously billed for data usage from November 2007 to the Effective Date
(iv) based on the internal investigation, including a review of billing records and other relevant data, the Company estimates that the total amount of the refunds and credits that should be paid to those Paygo Customers is approximately $52.8 million. (**** that's a BIG mistake!)
In consideration for the termination of the Investigation, Verizon Wireless agrees to the terms, conditions, and procedures contained herein.
If you read these “terms and conditions” I think you will agree with me that Verizon has “forgotten” their responsibility under that decree.
At first Jennifer had led me to believe that mine was an isolated incident  and also tried to convince me it was a data charge for picture messages but now that I have gathered a large amount of evidence against Verizon particularly on the scope of the problem I will be making another complaint to the FCC.
C'mon Verizon... "same ol, same ol" You may have made a "mistake" last time but I'm betting I can prove this time it was no "mistake"!

  • DSL (Dysfunctional Service LIne) - Service is Intermittent or Non-existent in the evening

We have had DSL for a few years.  When we first signed up, the service was quite reliable.  We started having problems with drops a few months ago.  As we were about to look into other possibilities, service got better for a while.  It is currently worse than ever.  Service drops out at least once or twice an hour and usually much more often during the evening hours.  Sometimes it drops out three for four times in a fifteen minute time period.  This is horrible service.  We are obviously looking into some other type of service.  However, due to our rural location, we do have only one or two alternatives.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I gather from reading the forums that we are not alone.  This seems to be a widespread problem.  It seems that Verizon needs to address this issue or Verizon customers need to start a mass exodus from the service.  Maybe the exodus is a bad idea as it would make the remaining customers think that Verizon was improving access which it clearly is not.
The problem is not in our computers, phone lines, or routers.  The problem is in Verizon's service.  C'mon Verizon - get it together.

If your only choice for Wireline that is economical is DSL, let's absolutely aim to get the DSL fixed up. Unless your area has a good WISP chances are you'll be asking for pain and suffering dealing with Wireless or Satellite solutions (not literally, but literally).
To start, let's see what we can do to determine where the drop-outs are coming from. If you could, please post up your modem's Transceiver Statistics. If you don't know how to get this information just let us know so we can help. In addition, is each drop-out accompanied with a change in your connection speeed, or does the occurrence of disconnects vary with how congested or used DSL is (basically, how slow it goes during evening hours)?
If you have Telephone service with Verizon, not Verizon Wireless or another wireless or VoIP carrier, do you hear static, buzzing, or humming on your line during calls during the times the DSL is prone to dropping out or does the line sound clear when you kill the dial tone?
This information should give us some ground to start on.

  • Buying a phone retail in a store

I visited several NYC Verizon stores today looking to purchase a Samsung S4 at full retail price and was told to go to Best Buy as corporate stores do not allow customers to buy phones without a contract.
All I want to do is to give you money and you tell me to go to another retailer?  C'mon Verizon, you love money.  Let me give you my money.

Why don't you just order it directly from Verizon on your My Verizon account?

C'mon Verizon, I am begging for you to carry this phone. • PC app pops up mysterious message

For the past few days I keep getting a pop-up window on my PC stating "Software download complete." It provides two buttons: "Install Now" and "Install Later."  I had no idea what this was about and was hesitant to click on the Install Now button.  I was afraid it might be malware.  No way could I find out what software it wanted to install.  So I kept clicking on the Install Later button.  Of course the pop-up kept returning.  I asked my co-workers if anyone had seen this before and luckily one of my co-workers informed me that this was an update for the Verizon Samsung app.  I'd really like to let Verizon know that this app needs to be modified to clearly state what software it wants to install.  In this day and age of viruses and malware it is very poor practice to install unknown software and whoever wrote this program should have realized that people would be hesitant to click on the Install Now button with no idea of what is going to be installed.  C'mon Verizon, you and Samsung can do better than this.  Ok, I'll get off my soap box now.

This is a known issue ... at least for Verizon customers.  Verizon seems unwilling to respond.  Other threads on this topic include:

  • IPhone 4 - it begins?!? Not really ...

It took Verizon 5 years (!) to finally get the iPhone to their customers. When they rolled it out to their long-suffering customers, it was heralded as the greatest innovation ever.
It's true, it is one of the best phones there is. But its been around since 1996!
OK OK OK. Verizon's obsolete CDMA platform couldn't accommodate the OS in the iPhone and had to be tweaked and re-programmed. Imagine that it took them five years ... Well, so Verizon finally got the iPhone going. However, when they finally got it they didn't bother to get it in a global version.
It's a smartphone - intended to be used by smart people, a lot of them travel!
C'mon Verizon, get your act together and get a GLOBAL iPhone version going! This is ridiculous!

I get that you're having a rant moment, but let's point out a few things.
#1. The iPhone 4 has not been out since 1996. It is pointless to argue that the iPhone 4 and the original iPhone are the same (which you are doing since you imply that it has been around since 1996. It hasn't. Yes, an iPhone has existed since then but their are significant differences.)
#2. It didn't take 5 years for Verizon to get the iPhone in CDMA because Apple had to tweak it. It took 5 years (in part) because until now, AT&T had an exclusive deal. Since AT&T is not CDMA there would never have been a CDMA iPhone created while that deal was still in place.
#3. "They" are not Verizon..."they" would be Apple. Apple didn't create a global iPhone for Verizon (yet) but technically, a global one exists...the GSM AT&T obe.
#4. Smartphones do not define the intelligence level of their users. That would be impossible. You don't have to qualify for an iPhone based on a minimum I.Q. level. You'd also be surprised that in today's wireless phone world there are a lot of users that have never traveled beyond their home country (or in some cases their own state). Which takes me to #5...
#5. For those that travel a lot and have a strong need for a phone that fits the bill chances are they either choose to use a provider that can better accomodate that (GSM is more available) or make sure the phone they choose is capable before choosing that phone. There are plenty of phones other than the iPhone on Verizon that are not Global so this is not some new concept that was ignored with the VZ iPhone. If travel is a major factor then despite how cool or great an iPhone looks to you, you would not choose it on VZ at this time because you would set yourself up for issues. Or...there is always the Global Phone program that VZ has. Not as convenient of course, but an option if you want VZ service but need global capabilities at times.
#6. You have your right to rant so 1-5 are not meant to take away that right. The point is that while you have that right and are encouraged to use it, it is only fair to expect others to point out issues they see in your rants. Thankfully, that right exists also. At the end of the day let's just hope that the next iPhone VZ gets fits the needs of traveler's by being global. Until then, there are options. That's the great thing about technology...something "better" is always around the corner.

  • Random Commercial Interruptions

Does anyone else get random commercial interruptions? What will happen is that a show is in progress (maybe a person is in the middle of a line) and a local commercial breaks in. A minute later, when the show resumes, it's clear that the show has been proceeding ahead & I haven't see things.
It's really annoying now that the baseball playoffs are on. I've missed entire at bats with these mid-inning commercial breaks.
When I talk to my non-FiOS TV neighbors, they're NOT seeing these commercials.
    C'mon Verizon!

I have a friend that reported the issue before, it seems to happen on TBS because of when they have their comercial breaks, verizon forgets to set those comercials for the extra 5 minute mark.

  • Lollipop Update

Verizon Updater last night for Lollipop 5.0.1 on my LG G3. Now it runs slow, overheats and battery drainage is ridiculous. Battery app says the biggest battery consumer is the Andriod System at 26%! From a full charge I went from 100% battery to 65% in just 3 hours!! KitKat was much better. I could go the whole day and only be at 50%. C'mon Verizon, get it together. My G3 is almost useless unless I keep it plugged in.

Updates are meant to improve your device Arviter685. I regret to learn of the difficulties you are experiencing with the recent update. After updating the software on your phone, it can take a couple days for your battery to normalize. If you still experience battery issues after three days, keep us updated for further assistance. Does your phone run slow only when accessing certain applications? Did you reinstall all third party apps on the phone after the update?

  • Softcard??

Can anyone explain why the Verizon OEM installed Softcard app received an update today and has been defunct since March 31st?  It's bad enough to have unwanted, uninstallable, bloat on a new flagship (Turbo) phone but having a dead, non-functional app is beyond the pale.  Yet, this dead, non-functional app received an update today. C'mon Verizon, get this abortion of an app off our phones.

I also use Wallet but disabling an app simply because it cannot be uninstalled is not a substitute for a solution.  This is a prime  example why pre-installed apps should be minimized.  Most customers had no desire for this particular app anf now, couldn't use it if they wanted to.  Yet, we are preventing from removing the dead weight from our devices.  Unacceptable.

  • MSG HD and MSG PLUS HD

As a NY sports fan, we have only the Giants, Jets, Mets, Nets and Yankees in High Def. But what about Hockey and the knicks? I hears Verizon was filing a suit against Cablevision so that cablevision can release the HD channel for MSG and MSG Plus. Any updates? C'mon Verizon push harder!! We can't have another season go by without the Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Knicks, Redbulls and Liberty in High Def!! Lets work out a deal and get us the HD Channels we deserve!

That article is not entirely accurate; Cablevision is not "appealing the decision to the FCC." The FCC has already ruled that Cablevision's decision to provide Verizon with only a standard definition MSG signal was improper - thus closing the terrestrial loophole. Cablevision then appealed the FCC decision to United States Court fo Appeals for the District of Columbia.
Cablevision submitted its"petition for review" to the court on March 15, 2010, and now, it is Cablevision (as petitioner) versus the FCC (as respondent). All of the briefs have been submitted and the case will be orally argued in front of three judges on February 14, 2011.
After that, we will just have to wait for the court's decision.
