Can I upgrade from Sata II to Sata III hard drive on HP DV6 6030 PN: LF039EA ?

Can someone tell me if I could?

There could be some limitations (e.g. of the BIOS, or components etc) not supporting this. Hence to the best of my knowledge, I think it is not possible.
Although I am an HP Employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Can i install sata III hard drive?

Hi, i've an iMac G5 20" iSight with an intel core duo 2ghz. I would like to know if  i can install a sata III hard drive like 128GB Crucial m4 2.5" SSD.
    Thx a lot.

First, you do not have an iMac G5. G5s are PPC machines, but yours is an Intel model.
You can install a SATA III drive but I would not spend the money since your model only supports SATA I or SATA II depending on which model you have. I would also be careful about using Crucial SSDs because they may not all work in a Mac. I would get your SSD at OWC instead. You will find their equivalent product for SATA I or SATA II here. I have two of these drives, and they are excellent.

  • Can't boot from either of 2 external Seagate hard drives

Over a year ago, I purchased two external Seagate drives. One is FireWire 800/400. The other is an eSATA 500GB connected to an eSATA PCI card. I have not been able to boot from either one of them after placing a "bootable" copy of my "main" internal hard drive on each using SuperDuper! It isn't a SuperDuper! problem because I have another internal hard drive with two partitions. I have placed the same kind of bootable copy on each of the internal drive's partitions and they boot just fine. The external drives are the problem. After a lot of back and forth with Seagate, they concluded that my boot ROM is too early (too old) and does not support booting from their drives. Their lab has a newer dual PowerMac G5 and it does boot their drives. I was told that updating boot ROM was not possible. Both external drives function very well except for the fact that neither will boot. I just read elsewhere in this forum that boot ROMs _can be updated_. Is this true? Search on "Boot ROM" and include the quotes to see the references to updating boot ROM. Is this possible with my machine? See below for boot ROM version. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

    Hi-
Blaming the boot ROM is a first. Haven't heard that one before.
Boot ROM can be updated, though it would have to be an update provided by Apple. There are no G5 updates beyond 5.1.8 (that my searches reveal, anyhow).
I think it is best to look elsewhere for the problem....
What are the Seagate series numbers? 7200.10?
What is the Seagate firmware version?
What is the make and model of the SATA PCI controller?
What is the chipset, make and model of the firewire drive housing?

  • Sata III hard drive cable compatible with older generation of macbook pro

Would my macbook ( 17 in mid 2009 ) be compatible with a new hard drive cable ( sata III ) ? I upgraded my hard drive to Samsung Pro 840 and wanted to upgrade my sata II cable to a sata III for faster read and write. Is this possible?

    Dave The Newbie,
replacing the cable will not increase the interface speed, just as putting racing slicks on a minivan won’t make it a dragster. I have the same model SSD in my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, and my MacBook Pro’s SATA interface is limited to SATA II, just like yours. Unless you’re planning on mainly running disk-bound apps, it’s not something that you’ll need to worry about — just enjoy the SSD as is.

  • Will a SATA III Hard Drive work on a Mac Pro 2,1 (2008)

Will a SATA III work on a Mac Pro 2,1 (I think 2008)?
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CSIG1G/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If not the above, then what?

Apple Pro RAID card is not compatible with 3TB drives and never will be it now seems. It also lacks any real performance and is destined where RAID 5 is a must.
SSDs are a more interesting matter in choice and support... but not traditional platter type drives.
I use SSD for system now 100% on multiple systems, 10K WD VR ($200 for 1TB / 180MB/sec and variety of WD blacks and Green.
2008 has some interesting stuff, PCIe mix and support and booting, but more choices in GPU. Runs best with all 8 DIMM slots filled. Was the first to have UEFI to support 64-bit kernel but does not support industry standard enough to support Windows 8 UEFI.
Storage market would be a total mess like it was back in 2004 when SATA 1.0 moved to 2.0 and lots of problems. SATA 1.0 in early G5 was just PATA with an SATA interface chip slapped on and not "native" SATA. THAT is where the "will the IBM Hitachi or Seagate or Maxtor" really did require research. Not with Mac Pro line 2006 and on.

  • Can I sync from iPad to a Mac as hard drive crashed and data lost

My iMac hard drive crashed and the data cannot be recovered. Can I sync the iTunes data on my iPad or iPhone back onto the new hard drive?

You should be able to recover data that is in the backup. That does not included some items like music. See the following for what is in the backup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
First in iTunes preferences check the box for prevent automatic syncing when a device is connected.
They connect your iPod to the computer and transfer iTunes purchases to the computer. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Then right click on the iPad listed under Devices in the left hand side and click on "Back Up". After backup is complete I think you will have to restore the iPad from backup to complete the process of using your iPad to the "new" computer.

  • Can I restore from Time Machine backup after replacing hard drive

I'm planning on replacing the 250GB hard drive in my mid 2010 13 inch MBP with a larger one. My MBP comes with Snow Leopard, and I've installed Lion and recently Mountain Lion from App Store. Can I use my Snow Leopard disc to boot up the laptop after replacing the hard drive, and restore Mountain Lion and everything else from the latest backup in Time Machine without having to install Snow Leopard?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and restore your backup. You shouldn't use 10.6 to restore the Mountain Lion backup

  • Upgrade from Panther to Leopard - how much hard drive GB is needed?

Even though the system requirements on Apple say 9GB is needed, I hear that I really should have more than that and should get a larger hard drive. Has anyone had experience with this? I currently have 11 GB.
In terms of getting a larger hard drive, what is the difference between an external hard drive versus an internal one? Should I get 80 GB or more? Does it replace my current 74.4 GB one or does it add to it? What would work best with Leopard and my PowerBook G4?

    Hi again Camille,
Your 74GB is really an 80GB, because manufacturers use a 1000 scale instead of 1024. Thus, you need a 100 or larger. Per other thread, I'd recommend larger. One can never have too much storage capacity, and files keep getting larger and larger, especially if you work with video data.
If you get an external, that means you'd have to haul it around with you, limiting the portability of your PB, but that is an option. I have a 500GB with several partitions sitting next to my PB which I usually leave connected and use for backups.

  • After I upgraded to Firefox 4 on Windows XP, I was no longer able to print anything directly from a website except PDF files. I can print documents from any installed program on my hard drive. My printer is an HP LaserJet 1220

I edited my original question above to provide all the info that I can think of. It is very frustrating to no longer be able to directly print from a website except for PDF files. I can do a work around by copying a web page to Microsoft Word and then printing it but I don't understand why I lost a basic function. David Pollock

  • Will dv6000 accept a sata III hard disc?

I want to speed up my ancient dv6000 which has 2gb of memory and an AMD processor.  Will the dv6165d accept a sata III hard drive even if it runs at sata II speed?  Thanks for your help.  Jerome

It is not true SATA at all but IDE running through a physical SATA port. That is why the AMD dv6000-6499 would install Windows XP without any need to load a SATA driver. Models dv6500 and higher with AMD processors have true SATA but it is SATA-I

  • How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

How can I upgrade from OSX 10.7 to 10.9 on my 2012 mac mini? (2.3 GHz, 4 GB, 500 GB SATA disk) I don't want OSX Yosemite.

If your Mini shipped with OS X 10.7 Lion, then it was considered a 2011 build model, or before.
The Mini 2012 model, is considered a Late 2012, & the last one where RAM could be upgraded.
And it shipped with Mountain Lion 10.8, which is a fairly OK system if one had older software.
(However mine shipped in Dec 2014, with Mavericks 10.9.0, and was built in January 2014.)
There were a few different build versions of Late 2012 Mac Mini, the i5 or i7 processor,
in dual-core or quad-core, and some CTO or built-to-order versions with other specs.
You can buy Mountain Lion from online Apple Store, & use a download code emailed to you to
get the Mt. Lion 10.8 from Apple Servers; this would be about it, since Mavericks isn't available.
So hopefully that is an option you can exercise; in addition the computer may prefer more RAM.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How can I upgrade from Infinity to 56K dial-up?

I have had Infinity for about a month. At first everything was great, 38Mbps. I am about 25m from the cabinet where the optical fibre is terminated so I expected this to be quite consistent.
Seven days ago the speed dropped to about 5Mbps and over the next 12 hours or so dropped even further. The last time I managed to get a download speed measurement I recorded a speed of 28.2Kbps (yes, that is Kilobits). I have not had a speed as low as that in almost 20 years. Currently the BT speed tester is not working, I suspect my speed is too slow for it. The BBC speed tester reports my speed as being 0Mbps.
I have called the BT help line every day since and have been told today that it has finally been escalated to the BT Openreach Engineering Dept. I am told that an engineer will visit me in 3 days time to fix the problem. Why has it taken a week to do this and why can somebody not do something quicker? Is BT Infinity so bad that all the engineers are running around trying to get it to work. People always go on about Microsoft getting customers to test their products, I think BT are doing the same thing with a product which is obviously not suitable for it's task.
This is absolutely awful customer service. Seven days for a succession of "support engineers" a few thousand miles away reading from a prepared script is not my idea of looking after customers.
I cannot express how this has changed my opinion of BT.
A few years ago I worked for a major supplier of satellite communications equipment. BT were one of our first big customers. We had to jump though so many hoops before we installed the equipment it was unbelievable. The system was tested to death before it entered service. What has happened to this level of quality control?
To reiterate the subject heading - how can I upgrade from BT Infinity to 56K dial-up?

    Hi Satcomman,
Welcome to the forums! I'm sorry to hear of the problems you're having with your speeds. If you could fill out our contact webform (you can find the link in my profile under "about me") and include details of your home network setup, I'll be able to run a few checks and hopefully find out where the problem lies.

  • Can I upgrade from iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5 to iPhoto '11 on my Macbook Pro (10.6.8) without upgrading to Lion? or iPhoto '09...

Can I upgrade from iPhot '08 (ver 7.1.5) to iPhoto '11 on my Macbook Pro (OS 10.6.8) without upgrading to Lion or iPhoto '09?

You should only get that message if you are attempting to install the same version of iPhoto that is already on your computer.
Should you upgrade your current version of '08 (7.1.5) to anything higher, including '11 (9.2.1), it will upgrade your current library with all your photos and not create an additional application or library.

That is a free update (not an upgrade) what happens when you try? How are you trying to update? did your Mac come with restore disks or did you download software form teh App Store? Have you logged onto the App store and checked purchased software for updates?
