Can no longer manually transfer songs from my itunes to ipod

I use my ipod on many different computers and my main computer (the one at home) was just updated today to the newest version of itunes. I purchased a lot of music from the itunes music store, plugged my ipod in, and when i tried to drag the songs from my library to my ipod (which is what you do when you manually transfer), it wont let me put the songs on my ipod!
I am upset because i just spent like 50 bucks on songs and now my computer is not letting me transfer...does anyone know why it wouild be doing this?
Thanks
Lauren

I have the same issue. I have a first (or second) generation ipod w/ a scroll wheel. I unfortunately updated itunes to #5 this morning. Now I cannot manually transfer any itunes music store purchased songs from my itunes library to my ipod.
I wish I had an answer for this (except hindsight: never upgrade if everything works fine) because I am sooo aggravated right now. Please someone helpÉ
Georgia
Okay: I just downloaded the latest ipod updater: rebooted my ipod after installing and rebooted itunes. Now I can transfer music from my itunes "purchased" to my ipod... Thanks all!!!!!!

  • I cant manually transfer songs from my itunes on mac-says it is synced to another library

I have a newish mac with everything transferred from the old. I attempted to transfer some new songs I just purchased to my iphone by manual transfer but  I get the message:
The iPhone  is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Its the same itunes library transferred onto this mac so i dont understand?

The iPhone is ONLY allowed to by synced to one computer. [Google is your friend! Search other online forums for this matter!]
You can transfer your iTunes collection to the other computer but your iPhone is still synced to the old computer.
A file (or more) is left on the computer where the iPhone is originally synced. That's how iTunes knows that the iPhone was synced to That particular computer.
You'll need to deauthorize iTunes on the old Mac.
Go to the new Mac and iTunes and make a backup of the iPhone's contents if not through iCloud.
    Then resync.
You will get a message that the contents will be replaced!
All of the iPhone's contents should already be in your iTunes folder collection or backed up so let the contents be replaced then restore the iPhone's contents.
Apple should REMOVE the iPhone syncing restriction as well as the drag n drop feature of contents From the iPhone back to the computer/iTunes but it won't!

  • I just updated my software to maverick and my iTunes to the most recent version and i can no longer transfer songs from my iTunes to my iPod

i just updated my software to maverick and my iTunes to the most recent version and i can no longer transfer songs from my iTunes to my iPod. The tracks stay gray with a stagnant circle beside them in the left column. Any ideas?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

Purchases made under 1 Apple ID are permanently associated with that Apple ID and CANNOT be transferred to another Apple ID.  So if you want to keep those songs, you'll need to always have access to your dad's account.

  • HT1848 why can't I transfer songs from my itunes account to my ipod?

On my computer I have tons of songs on Itunes, how can I transfer those songs to my Ipod? I have already sync my Ipod. I also owe money to itunes, could that be the reason why I can't transfer purchased songs and burned songs from cds to my ipod?

You can transfer itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Why not copy them from your old computer, ro your backup copy of your old computer?
No need for such a gross over reaction.

  • How do I transfer songs from one iTunes library to another?

My husband and I each have our own iBook G4 and iPod mini's. I need to get songs from his itunes library (mostly downloaded from cd's) to mine so that I can put together a playlist for his surprise 50th birthday party. What's the easiest and quickest way of doing this?

    Hi, Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I think that the fastest way is:
    - connect the 2 iBooks using the Airport Extreme Card or the Ethernet
    - open finder then select network and select the remote computer
    - open iTunes, select your tracks and then drag them into the shared folder... that's it! You have just transfered your music to the other iBook and now you can create your playlist using iTunes.
If you don't know how to create a private network or something else, post another message... bye!

I just recently got the latest iTunes, but now I don't know how transfer songs from PC to iPhone 5s. Nothing works, help please?!

  • How to manually transfer songs from iMac to iphone

Hoping someone can help. I have a macbook air, an imac and an iphone. The imac has my main music library, simply made up from my own CDs uploaded into it and individual songs and albums purchased off itunes. I simply want to be able to move songs and albums between the 3 devices and so far have not been able to do this. This is extremely frustrating as not only have I bought and paid for all of the music (itunes have done especially well out of me!), but these are expensive and sophisticated devices and yet they will not let me listen to my own music on them!
So to keep it simple, here is what I would really appreciate some help with. Currently my iphone is synced with my macbook air and therefore has some of the macbook air itunes library on it. The iphone will not accept any songs from the imac, purchased or downloaded form my CDs and I cannot delete the songs on the iphone that I don't want. They keep popping back up when I do manage to delete them, then have to be downloaded again just so I can delete them again! So ideally I would like to wipe all of the music off my iphone and start again. And starting again I would like to simply be able to upload my own CDs from the imac in my itunes library on the imac onto the phone, and to upload songs and albums downloaded from itunes on the imac, onto the iphone.
Despite my furstration up until now I have been a big fan of apple products, but not being able to manage my own music on my own devices in a simple and uaser freindly amnner is driving me crazy! The intelligent and intuitive navigation and functionality that apple has built its reputation on completely falls down when it comes to itunes and music, for me at least and to add insult to injury they are making a fortune off people like me on itunes!
    Any help gratefully received.

Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - You can manage your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music."  -  E.g., adding music from a second computer to an i-device. • How can i transfer songs from one itunes to another?

I have a new computer and want to transfer all of my songs from one computer to another.  I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.

I have home sharing turned on but can't figure out how to save the songs to the new computer.
First, make sure you've got the home share set up on both computers, as per the following document. If material on the original PC was bought from the iTunes Store, I'd use the AppleID you used for the purchases to set up the Home Share on both PCs.
iTunes: Setting up Home Sharing on your computer
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in your original PC's library, the transfer may take some time.

  • HT1848 Can you transfer songs from one iTunes account to a new iTunes account?

I have a friend that had a shared iTunes account with her ex-boyfriend.  They both used the account to purchase songs for themselves.  They have since separated and she has set up her own iTunes account.  She wants to transfer the songs from her iPhone to her new account, but is afraid that she will delete all of the songs on her phone.  Is there a way that she can transfer all of the songs off of her phone and store them on her new iTunes account.

  • Can I transfer songs from my itunes to my partners iphone if we have different accounts

i cant seem to transfer songs i have brought on itunes or have transfered by cd to my partners iphone like i do on my phone and ipod.

You can burn a CD of your music and have your parther import it into their iTunes library; then they can sync their device with their iTunes library.
This is, however, pushing copyrights. I would recommend your parther purchase the music again.

  • I've got a new iPod touch. How do I transfer songs from my old 'classic' iPod?

So I've got a new iPod touch for Christmas. I want to transfer all the music from my old iPod. I don't store music on my computer, it's just on the iPod. The only solution I can find is to download a program, copy everything from the old one to the computer and then move them to the new one! Seems a lot of work. Is there no official Apple way to just move music across?

Sadly my music collection is too big for the iPod so I gave to pick and choose which songs I want on the iPod at any one time.
    Ah! Well, here's a tip.
Use Smart Playlists to manage your iPod. This does of course mean using Sync to manage your iPod, but since manually managing is so much hard work, Syncing makes more sense...
By creating Smart Playlists, (which can add and remove songs according to rules you choose) you can create a Playlist which will be ever changing and you could then manage your iPod by Syncing Selected Playlists to it. You can experiment with Smart Playlists inside your iTunes Library without causing any irreversible damage. If you decide that you like - and can work with them, then is the time to start using them on your iPod.
    Examples:
Starting with a very basic Smart Playlist: This Playlist would contain all your songs, providing they haven't been played in x days/weeks/months. Look at the following screenshots:
In the shot above, I've created a Smart Playlist with the rule "Playlist is Music". This Playlist will automatically fill with all the songs in my Library, taking up 123.16GB in storage. Now look what happens if I tick the box named "Match only ticked items":
This step was simply to keep my Playlist tidy, i.e. not having music that I don't have on my iPod anyway. Watch what happens though, if I add another rule designed to keep out songs that I've played recently and so don't want to here again for a while:
With this one simple additional rule, my Playlist is reduced from 123GB to just 61.75GB. However, if I only have a 64GB iPod, then even that's too large, so by increasing the number of weeks...
... I reduce the size of the Playlist to a more manageable 51.18GB.
What happens then is that I Sync selected Playlists to my iPod, i.e. this Smart Playlist, which you'll notice I have named "Reduce size Playlist".
I then have 51GB of music on my iPod, which I can then look for (and play) in exactly the same way as before, by Artist, Song, Genre etc.
At the next Sync with your iTunes Library, any songs that have been played recently are removed from the Playlist, while any songs that were last played more than 125 weeks ago are added back to the Playlist and the Playlist on the iPod (and therefore the songs on the iPod) is updated.
Now - that's the basic version. By creating more sophisticated Smart Playlists, you can Sync selected Artists, Albums etc. with your iPod so that any songs that you always want on it are there, while songs you don't cherish so much are only put back on after a while of last playing. For example, you could have five star songs go back on after just two months, four star songs after three months, and so on. If you use Playlists, you can Sync those as well, so that you can play by Playlist if you so wish. You could even keep the Recently Played Playlist on your iPod so that all songs recently played are left on the iPod for two weeks after last being played. If a song gets played again, it stays in the Recently Played Playlist, so it stays on the iPod. But if it doesn't get played for two weeks, it gets removed from the iPod.
If this sounds as though may help you, but you need help with Smart Playlists, you can always ask in this forum.

  • Transfer songs from Mac to iPod, then transfer songs from PC to same iPod?

I would like to know if it is possible, and how to transfer some songs from my Mac (Power PC G4) to my iPod (iPod 20GB with color display), and THEN transfer some more songs from my husband's computer (Windows PC) to the SAME iPod WITHOUT ERRASING the ones I already transfered from the Mac.
Is this possible? do I need a special sodftware for this? can I find this software free anywhere?
    Please help, thank you!

As pointed out by Mitch, the key here is you want to format the iPod (via the Restore command when plugged into the Windows iTunes) for Windows and both machines can read the iPod. Next set the iPod for manual syncing. You can now plug it into either computer and manually add stuff to the iPod or delete items off of it...
