Can't get favicon to work

I am trying to get a favicon to work with DW8. I created a 16
by 16 jpeg, renamed it favicon.ico and placed it in my root file.
Then, I went to Insert>HTML>Headtags>Link and entered the
Href and Rel information. Nothing is happening.
I have searched the posts on this board and tried all the
suggested options for others having the same problem from doubling
up the code to "wiggling" the file. Nothing is working. Can anyone
give me some advice on what to try next? You can see the code at

Huh? He didn't say that. The ICO format has absolutely
nothing to do
with JPEG. It's kinda related to BMPs, but nevertheless a
completely
independent format.
The example given in Joe's first reply was about a real JPEG
file, used
as a favicon. In most modern browsers you can use whatever
format you
want, as long as it's supported and correctly delivered
(Content-Type,
see below). But I don't think IE supports these alternatives
yet, so a
proper ICO file is still the best option.

The name and file extension are rather meaningless in the
web. What
really matters is the HTTP Content-Type header sent by the
server and
the file content itself of course. I could create a correct
ICO file,
give it a .jpg extension and let the server deliver it as
image/x-icon
or something like that - every standards-compliant browser
should still
be able to render it correctly. IE 6 fails, but this is no
surprise.

Correct. The first one is a mis-labeled JPEG file. And since
the server
delivers it as image/x-icon, it could even be seen as a bug
that some
browsers still render it. IMHO at least in this case the
result in IE is
"more correct" - the icon should not appear, because it is
not what the
declared content type claims to be (a similar example:
stylesheets can
be named whatever you like, but must be delivered as text/css
or Firefox
will reject them - this is very strict, but correct
behaviour).

I don't think so. The favicon is nothing special, it's just a
normal
file like an index.html or a foobar.jpg. If the upload fails,
check
your upload application and file permissions. If it doesn't
appear in
the browser after a reload, clear the cache or try another
browser.
