Can't Print to A Printer attached to a PC using XP

Hi,
I am sharing a network with a win xp computer using a wireless network from my mac book pro running os 10.5.1 It works great except for one problem: I am unable to print to the HP Officejet 4315 That is a printer attached to the XP machine with print sharing turned on. It is shared on the netwk and works fine. I can acutally see the printer on the windows network when I add printer through the workgroup/windows/server. When I try to add it on, OS X asks for drivers for the printer. I looked up the print drivers and there wasn't one for this particular printer. I tried generic postcript printer, but even that didn't help. I have also tried to download linux foundation drivers for 0S X printing. The best response I got was that the printer gets the job and then just hangs without printing.
Please help.

You will find numerous answers to this by searching for Windows Printing CUPS - but I'll give you the basics.
The print driver HP provides for that model is limited to USB direct connection. You need a CUPS driver to use the CUPS standard network protocols like IP printing and Windows Printing. All the CUPS third-party drivers I know of are here:
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
http://www.printfab.net
Your model is supported by hpijs at the first link.

  • Can't clear a .ppt print job on an OfficeJet Pro L7680, attached to a Lenovo PC w Win7 32-bit

I was printing a .ppt print job that aborted and didn't complete.  I tried to delete the print job. I tried to reset the printer.  I turned the printer off/on.  I took the printer offline/online.  The print job won't clear and although I can submit new print jobs, the printer can't print anything else (because of the .ppt job that can't be cleared).   I was using the HP Solutions Center (HP print utility on my laptop)) and Windows print tools.  Any thoughts on what I can do to clear this print job?

Delete the printer in Control Panel as it appears it is hung up (if there is more than one instance of it, delete them all).
Next, re-add the printer in this manner:
    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Devices & Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Windows 7 laptop can't print to PSC 2410 attached to Windows XP desktop on home network

The subject line pretty much says it all.  I finally got the laptop to see the printer and went thru Windows update to find our printer model, but when I print a test page nothing happens.  I tried setting it up as a network printer but couldn't find a driver (which it required).  I finally went through the local printer option to get as far as I did with it.  I tried also getting on the XP desktop to add a printer driver for Windows 7 64 bit OS but that option isn't available...I was under the Sharing tab for the printer.
This is very frustrating because I had no problems setting up my Vista laptop.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Try the following: on the Windows 7 machine go to the Devices and Printers folder, Add a Printer, Local Printer, Create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the actual share name for the computer and printer), OK, then click on Windows Update and then select HP for the manufacturer and HP PSC 2400 series when the list refreshes.

  • Alien communique, print queue lagging, printer refuses to e-print, can't find with laptop

I purchased the HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - Black (CN216A#B1H) to replace my top-feed printer whose ink was disappearing from retail stores. It is connected to my Mac Mini (OS: leopard 10.5) via USB, and to my home wifi network. I have a pc (OS: XP) laptop that also connects to the internet via wifi network. Here are my problems:
    1. The printer refuses to e-print. I have it set up with hpeprint, and it'll connect to hpeprint occasionally, usually after rebooting. I can print using the apps on the printer, but I can't email ANYTHING to it. I've even spent an hour on the phone with HP's help center, and he's sent stuff to the printer that never printed. It doesn't matter how it's sent--attachment or in the email--or what it is, it just sits in the queue until it fails. I paid more for this feature----why won't it work??
    2. I can't find the printer with the laptop. Now this may be my ineptitude with windows, but even my husband (whose laptop it is) can't figure it out. I can access the printer's url in a browser (http://192.168....you know), but I can't get the Add A Printer wizard to recognize the printer. It wants to go in through shared computers, looking for a printer on my Mini--which, by the way, for some strange reason my router won't let computers on my network access my hard-wired mini. Anyways, that's a headache for another day.
    3. Last night I tried to print a copy of a legal form, and the job sat in the computer's print queue for about an hour before the printer finally started warming up to print. Then it only printed the first half of the first page, spat it out, and gave me (after about half an hour more) a half dozen pages that look like some kind of alien communique. I've actually had it do this to me a couple times in the last day, just randomly printing these pages until I cancel print. Whatthe?
Setup seemed to be remarkably easy. I just plugged the thing in and followed the prompts. But now I'm starting to have buyer's remorse. What in the world is wrong with this printer?? If you can help me clear up one or two of these things, I'd greatly appreciate it, since it means less time I'll be on the phone with Customer Service.

By the way, here's what it printed:

  • Can't print on bluetooth printer?

I have a HP PhotoSmart C5580 A.I.O printer with bluetooth capabilities. I have been trying to set it up on my MacBook Pro (running on Leopard) for months now. My bluetooth is turned on, and the printer is listed under devices on the bluetooth. However, every time I try to print is wont connect.
I know absolutely nothing about bluetooth, so it may be a very simple thing that I am just missing.
    help?

I have the same printer and I'm successfully  printing via bluetooth. I first installed the printer with a USB following the instructions of the manufacturer (but I'm almost sure this step is not necessary) then proceeded with the bluetooth connection.
    1.Open a document to print
    2.Choose File>Print
3.In the printer pop-up menu where it says Printer choose *Add Printer*
4.A window opens, choose Bluetooth at the top of the window
5.Your printer should appear (the printer has to be on and with the bluetooth device attached)
6.Click the *name of the printer*
    7.Click Add
The problem I have is that when I'm going to print a document in the printers list I have two Photosmart c5500, I select the second in the list and walas it prints. Probably the USB installation was not necessary.
At this moment I can't scan via bluetooth but I think I read that the scanning option is not available via bluetooh.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't print to shared printer any more with Tiger

    Hello,
I upgraded to Tiger from Panther on a powerbook 12". My printers (hp 1700cp and hp 920c) are linked to my G5 dual 2ghz by USB, and shared in the sharing panel. I network the two together by ethernet (via a Farallon Netline broadband gateway router/hub).
Since moving to Tiger on the powerbook, when I press the "print" button in the print dialog for any program, notheing happens. Same when I press the "pdf" button in the same dialog.
If I link the printers directly to the powerbook using a USB cable, it prints fine.
I upgraded to Tiger using the archive and upgrade option. I'd like to do a straight re-load of Tiger from the disks, but as I have since upgraded to 10,4,3 via software update I don't have that option any more.
    Can anyone help ?
    Thanks.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem.
I print to an ancient networked LaserJet at work using LAN. I am not able to do it wirelessly. This arrangement has been working flawlessly. Over the weekend, I did an Archive and (re)Install of Tiger in an attempt to resolve a trackpad issue. Since then, my PowerBook has forgotten all of my printers, which is not a big deal, but the PB only sees the LJ intermittently. For example, Tuesday and Wednesday it worked fine, except each day I had to re-add the printer when I started up in the morning. Thursday, I was unable to see the printer at all, even after fiddling with IP addresses and all that. Today, the printer showed up and I printed a test mail message, but when I went to print an attachment, the LJ was gone.
I have installed all the software updates available through 1/5/06. Why does it come and go? How can I get it to automatically be there? Oy!
    Thanks,
    Brooke

  • Hp 200 wireless printer does not print the shared attachment only body of the email

In the past I have been able to share an email with the printer and the attachment was printed. Suddenly only the body of the email prints but no attachment. Would also like to know whether one can suppress the printing of the body of the email and print only the attachment. Don't want to waste paper.

Thanks for that additional information @Karl3.
I have a few suggestions that may resolve your ePrint issue.  It is possible to print attachments using the ePrint via email method, but results may vary.  At times, the formatting of an attachment is lost when using this method or at worst, it will not print.
As it's clear your PDF document is not printing using this approach, I recommend downloading and installing the HP ePrint app - click here to do so.
You'll see that it's geared towards Android users, however, if your Blackberry Z10's software is up-to-date, this app should work for you.  Once installed, you'll be able to launch the ePrint app and print directly from files and documents saved to your device.  With this interface you have greater control over what comes out of the printer.
With respect to your query about eliminating the extra pages that result from your phone's email signature, click here for instructions on how to turn off your email signature.  If you swipe Auto Signature off as indicated in Blackberry's forum, this should ideally stop the undesired signature page from accompanying all ePrint attachment jobs.  If the ePrint app doesn't work out for you, see if printing with the signature off yields a better result.  Keep in mind when you're sending ePrint jobs to your printer via email that you need to have something in the subject line.
Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  Best of luck!

  • Printing sent email with attachment(s)

When I print a sent email that had included an attachment(s), the printed copy does not show the reference file details of that attachment.  How do I adjust the print settings so that I have printed evidence that the attached file(s) has been included in the sent email?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As we are going down that road, it occurred to me that an email account using IMAP (as per http://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/BT-mail-IMAP-and-Thunderbird/m-p/142791#M2418 ) might allow you to get copies of your old sent messages onto your computer so you could print the old ones as well as the new.  But IMAP can be a bit fiddly to set up sometimes.  IMAP, when working well, should enable you to use either the email client or the webmail interchangeably.

  • Automatically Print Both Email and Attachment Outlook 2010

My company receives in excess of 500 emails a month with attachments of varying sizes and formats. These emails include expense statements and receipts. I setup a rule in Outlook to automatically print, but it will only print the attachments. We need every
email to print with the corresponding attachments. I have adjusted my Print Options to print attached files and Collate copies but this only gives me a jumbled mess of emails and attachments out of order when selecting all emails and printing at the same time.
I need a solution that does not involve add-ins. I have some knowledge of VBA coding.

    Hi,
For your request, I think this needs to be realized via VBA and a rule.
I found a similar request in this thread, we can find some samples about the code which may be helpful:

When I go to system preferences he can see the network and the printer where it is attached to, but if I click on the network it asks me to "connect as" Guest or User, I've tried guest an User with the Username from the Pc (no password) and then tried with a password (changed it on the PC).
