Cannot play music from Iphone on iTunes

This is the setup:
I have a home PC that I use to sync / buy content on my Iphone. When I come to work, I have none of this data on the PC, but I want to play the content of my Iphone through my PC.
When I click on the iphone triangle and click music, the content is all grey and I cannot play (or double click to play).
How can I play this music on my Itunes?

I've had this problem for ages. You've inspired me to find a fix and I appear to have found one.
I manually sync my iphone at home (computer A) and I wanted to play songs on Computer B at work. The songs were all greyed out on Computer B.
Now, to get around this I have selected "Manually manage music and videos" from the sync options in iTunes.
I have no other options selected for sync options as I do actually want to manually manage music rather than sync it.
Now, when I click on "Music" from within itTunes --> iPhone it is no longer greyed and is playable through Computer A and Computer B.
Think that made sense, if not let me know

I am having a similar problem. I have over 4000 songs giving me this error. I certainily don't want to go in one by one and find them. I know you wrote a script for Windows but I am a Mac user. Is there a fix for me? Here is the info on where the song is currently (used by doing the get info)

Then I find the music there as well. (Which is where it is in my preferences.)
Please help! I don't want to have to go through over 4000 songs and update them one by one.

I'm having the same problem, even more:
- Watching movies over AppleTV: switches off every 20min (sleep mode).
- Listening to iTunes music ofer AirPlay: the same.
- A whole confusion with switching airplay destinations (AppleTV, AirportExpress) over iPhone remote app. Sometimes remote cannot find my library anymore
- Before, I was able to multitask: stream a DVD to AppleTV, using airplay mirroring, and simultaneously stream music from iTunes on the same computer, over the iTunes airplay selector, to loudspeakers connected to AirportExpress. No longer possible.
I've grown a big Apple fan in short time, proudly living what for others is the future (your media stored anyhwere, controlled from anywhere, played anywhere, stop thinking in terms of devices). I can't play any music at all.

I think I've fixed this on my machine. If you look in the ITunes folder there is a subfolder called Previous iTunes Libraries. In my case for some reason this contained the one which had always worked and a new one was in the main folder. I closed iTunes, deleted the new one, and moved the old one back to the main folder, then opened iTunes. It then rebuilt the library and it plays correctly. Hope it works for you.

any itunes purchased music can be transferred from phone to pc via hitting the "transfer purchases" option when u right click on the phone under devices in itunes on the computer when it is plugged in. any non-itunes purchased music is stuck on the phone and cannot be transferred to the computer. u will have to load it onto the computer from the original source or from the old computer.

You can recover any purchased songs that are on iPhones using the procedure here.

Purchase of music from the iTunes store entitles you to one download of that item. I cannot download music from iCloud in iTunes on PC! I see the tracks in my library, but the iCloud icon is greyed out. This is SO ANNOYING! I have the latest iTunes version (10.6.3.25) and do not have the albums in question on this machine. Music Match is turned on. What am I doing wrong??

I have the same problem, where iTunes seems to work OK, but the server where they maintain their help files is not available. It looks to me like Apple keeps all their help information on a server named help.apple.com, and the people that maintain that server have not gotten around to creating the appropriate help folders for iTunes 10.5. If you go to http://help.apple.com/itunes/win/10.4, you find the help for 10.4. Maybe it's the same as for 10.5, and maybe not.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reaosn you have failed to backup, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod. File>Transfer Purchases

But suddenly about 95% of my songs on iphone 3gs have turned into grey color and it cannot be played, either from iphone itself or from itunes in laptop under iphone device. It also happened to my ipad. All albums are transferred but they appear to be grey. 5% of the songs are still black and can be played alright. I'm so frustrated!! I did try everything. It's that way because that's the way Apple designed it.
I just merely wish to listen to them using itunes and my pc headphones while it charges the unit.
You can still connect headphones to the iPhone and listen while your PC changes the iPhone. Until Apple changes things, that's it.
