Cannot Power On the virtual machine

When I was trying Live Migration (hostname:'foo'), it failed. And I rebooted all Virtual Server and Management Server, but I can't boot the machine 'foo' anymore. The error log says,
failed:<Exception: vm('/OVS/running_pool/77_foo') status ('PROCESSING') not in ('DOWN', 'RUNNING', 'SUSPEND', 'ERROR')> StackTrace: File "/opt/ovs-agent-2.2/OVSSiteVM.py", line 107, in stop_vm db_chkset_vm_status(vm_path, ("DOWN", "RUNNING", "SUSPEND", "ERROR"), "PROCESSING") File "/opt/ovs-agent-2.2/OVSDB.py", line 159, in db_chkset_vm_status raise Exception(errmsg)
I can start 'foo' using 'xm create' command, but VM Manager status wouldn't change.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.

In the past the following procedure did the trick for me, and it worked smoothly and with no subsequent troubles.
But as it is probably totally unsupported, use it if you wish, under your own responsibility (eventually backup everything etc. before trying).
Log in as root to the physical server where your VM is supposed to be running. Better to check if it's present on any of the physical servers in the pool, checking all of them one by one.
From the command line give an:
xm listand verify if the VM guest is listed or not. If it is present, kill it:
xm destroy YOUR_VM_NAME"xm list" again and check that it's not there anymore.
Then log in as root to your VM Manager machine. You'll need to access the XE Database, so you have to set the following environment variables:
    export ORACLE_HOME='/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server'
(OR ANYWAY THE CORRECT PATH TO YOUR XE ORACLE_HOME)
export ORACLE_SID=XE Then connect to the Database:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus
    Username: sys as sysdba
Password: YOUR_PWDLet's now check what's written in the relevant table:
    select t.status from ovs.ovs_vm_img t
where t.img_name like 'YOUR_VM_NAME';You'll probably see that it' "Processing" or something like that. If it is, let's fix the status to "Powered Off":
    update ovs.ovs_vm_img t set t.status='Powered Off' where t.img_name like 'YOUR_VM_NAME';
commit;BE CAREFUL: "Powered Off" and "YOUR_VM_NAME" are case sensitive. Use them in the correct way!
    Finally, exit from SQL Plus:
exitGo back to VM Manager console, eventually refresh the screen. Your VM should now appear as "Powered Off". Switch it on.

  • Need to access the Power shell within Virtual Machine Manager.

Hi all, I have a VM that shuts down everyday between 9-10PM.  I would like to get a script to start it up at 11PM.  However, the issue I have that if i run the powershell command "start-vm -servername" from the Powershell within the Virtual
machine manager it works without an issue.  However I can not get my script to use that powershell.  If I use the normal powershell, that command does not work.  Hopefully that makes sense.
    I'm running Windows server 2008 R2 standard with VMM 2008 R2.
The VM is being decommissioned in Q1 2015, so this would be the most cost effective way to restore functionality.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Windows O/S running in the virtual machine has frozen does not want to shut down

Our old Windows-based PC is a virtual machine on our iMac (it is accessed using VMWare Fusion 2). The Windows XP Home Edition O/S froze when booting, and cannot be shut down by sending a Ctrl-Alt-Del or Force Quitting VMWare Fusion. Putting the iMac in Sleep mode or restarting it makes no difference.  The virtual machine is still in a suspended state, and there appears to be no way of either getting it to finish booting the Windows O/S or shutting it down.  Any ideas as to how to unfreeze it?  At this point in time, all I want to do is get back into the Windows side, rescue any data files I need, and stop using the virtual machine.

VMware Fusion issues should be posted in the VMware Fusion forums:
    http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/desktop/fusion?view=discussions
That said, you can "Force Shut Down" a virtual machine by holding down the Option key, then clicking on the Virtual Machine Menu.  "Shut Down" becomes "Force Shut Down".
More than likely what you'll need to do is hold the Option key, then choose "Force Restart" to get Windows to boot again.  Then use "Force Shut Down" to power off the VM, if a normal shut down does not work after that.  Do NOT close the VM window, or put the Mac to sleep as this will initiate another suspend procedure.

  • I had creative cloud installed in a parallels deskto virtual machine on my mac, I delete the virtual machine without deactivate the creative cloud. after reinstall a new VM running windows 8.1. pro 64 bits, I downloaded the creative cloud installer but it

I had creative cloud installed in a parallels deskto virtual machine on my mac, I delete the virtual machine without deactivate the creative cloud. after reinstall a new VM running windows 8.1. pro 64 bits, I downloaded the creative cloud installer but it does not install ang give an Error code 72, it is assuming that I already are using the Creative cloud in 2 computer, but itis no the case, how to solve this situation?

Dave: I did the Microsoft Update two days before this happened, and rebooted as required.  I just created a new restore point and lauched Creative Cloud.  Now I get the famous white screen:
It just sits and spins (been 10 minutes now).
Fortunately, I saved away this command (which I've had to use 4 or 5 times already):
    del %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE\opm.db
Unfortunately now, I get this (even after closing the above window):
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
So I killed everything that said "Adobe" in the task manager and this time, the command succeeded.
Fortunately, the current apps seem to still work.  I can't seem to find the "Creative Cloud" app in the applications on my system, but I launched Photoshop CC, told it to look for updates, and got a list of the 5 prgorams that need updates in the Adobe Application manager:
I will proceed with the updates, holding my breath.

  • Unable to create the virtual machine. The error was -4

I have a VS2003 C# application, which call JACE (a JNI wrapper) through C++ mixed mode to use JAVA objects functions.
Because the natural of our JAVA program it must be able to reach maximum heap size of 512MB, we set it during the startup of JVM by using -Xmx512M parameter.
It worked well with a small PC (Dell Optiplex GX750 and Shuttle Xpc ) with only 512MB physical memory. We have about 50 machines running the application in the production.
Recently, one of our customers installs the application to a larger PC ( Shuttle Xpc with different model), which has 1 GB of physical memory. The application started throw exception from JVM. The error message is Unable to create the virtual machine. The error was -4. I checked with JNI return code and found that -4 mean not enough memory.
I did some experiment by running the application with 2GB PC, 1 GB PC, 1GB laptop, 512MB PC. I dont found relationship between how much maximum heap size can be assigned and how much physical memory is available (reading from task manager). The 2GB machine can take only 128MB of maximum heap size However, 1GB machine can take up to 300MB of maximum heap size.
I also use program like ImageJ (http://rsb.info.nih.gov/ij/) to test maximum heap size for it. I found that ImageJ can take 512MB maximum heap size without problem. It can even take 1024MB of maximum heap size.
I have created a small program to duplicate this problem. Although it use exact the same code to start JVM up, it can go up to 650MB heap size for both 2GB and 1GB PC.
This is puzzling. Does anyone know what are factors determine how much maximum heap size can be set for JVM from JNI?
    Software used
    Windows XP SP2
Visual studio.net 2003 SP1 (the problem also occurred without SP1)
    .NET Framework 1.1 SP1
    JACE 1.1rc1_05
JRE 1.5.07 (also tested with JRE 1.5.09 and 1.6.0 beta)

Do you resolve the problem? If so what was the fix?
I have been getting the Java Virtual Machine Launcher error message “Could not create the virtual machine” when attempting to run an Oracle application that uses JNLP via a browser. Even clicking on componets such as javaw.exe produces the error message. In conjunction with receiving the error message, the application that I am working with will not launch.
I had JRE 5u10 and J2RE 1.4.2u13 installed and thought that installing JDK 5u17 may resolve the issue. I removed JRE 5u10 and J2RE 1.4.2u13 and installed JDK 5u17 (and the included JRE 5u17.) The error message was still there.
I have unistalled (via Add/Remove programs) and reinstalled (via both Win off-line and on-line) JDK 5u17 and JRE 5u17 many times.
During the uninstalls I have received a Java Web Start 1.5.0_17 bad installation – error invoking JVM error message.
I have restarted the machine also.
There are some remains of J2RE 1.4.2u13 still on the machine –even after the 1.4.2u13 uninstall. The Java\j2re1.4.2_13\lib folder remains.
    I am running Win XP SP2 and IE6 SP2.
Note: I cannot use Java 6 since the application that I am working with is Java 5 based.

  • Expanding the virtual machine max memory in osx

i just upgraded the memory on my power mac because this java program im using requires alot of memory on the heap. i remember on windows, there is a property file u can tweak to increase the max memory used by the virtual machine, im just wondering if you can do the same with osx (10.2)

Yes - it's in Applications/Utilities and it's called Terminal. Default shell is tcsh but you can download bash and configure it to use that - there are probably other shells out there too.

  • Hyper-V - 'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'

    Hi all,
    Having a bit of a nightmare with Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro laptop - Whenever I create a new VM and try to start it I receive the following error;
'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'
I sometimes also receive an error saying something along the lines of 'Unable to change virtual machine state'
I have done a lot of searching a seen two common answers - The first is to try removing the Hyper-V role and re-adding it - I have tried this several times to no avail. (Intel VT and all virtualisation capabilities are enabled in BIOS). The second issue
    it would seem
some people have had relates to editing the VMX configuration file and adding the line
hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE" - I thought VMX files were only present in VMware Virtual Machines...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.
    James

The hypervisor event log message is generated only at boot - so this would be expected.  Also vmbus should not be running on the host (I was looking at a VM yesterday)...  This error message is generated only when the vid is determined not to be
running or cannot communicate with the hypervisor.
I have seen this due to anti-virus software in the past or due to driver verifier being configured.  Since it looks like you checked driver verifier already do you have anti-virus software installed?  If so have you followed the best practices
    and exempted the Hyper-v services?
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd283088(WS.10).aspx
To resolve this problem, configure the real-time scanning component within your antivirus software to exclude the following directories and files:
Default virtual machine configuration directory (C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V)
    Custom virtual machine configuration directories
Default virtual hard disk drive directory (C:\Users\Public\Documents\Hyper-V\Virtual Hard Disks)
Custom virtual hard disk drive directories
Custom replication data directories, if you are using Hyper-V Replica
    Snapshot directories
Vmms.exe (Note: This file may have to be configured as a process exclusion within the antivirus software.)
Vmwp.exe (Note: This file may have to be configured as a process exclusion within the antivirus software.)

  • [SOLVED] VMPlayer error: 'The virtual machine is busy'

    Hello,
I encounter an error when I try to open my Windows XP virtual machine. VMPlayer say me that 'the virtual machine is busy', but there aren't others virtual machines that are already running.
I try to find a fix on google, but it seams that usually this bug is related on the file /etc/vmware/not_configured. This is not my case, because I haven't this file.
I'm running Arch 32-bit with the official Arch kernel 3.0. I already patched my VMPlayer with this solution that I've found on the wiki:
    # sed 's/\x83\xe8\x03\x83\xf8\x01\x0f\x96\xc0/\x83\xe8\x02\x83\xf8\x01\x0f\x96\xc0/' -i /usr/lib/vmware/lib/libvmware-modconfig-console.so/libvmware-modconfig-console.so

Just a few things to do, I have no miracle solutions.
Try to reset vmware to default. remove the ~/.vmware directory. Are you sure vmware is correctly installed? Try to reboot to be sure that there is no weird daemons in the background. Can you run vmware at all (try to create a new virtual machine that you attach to a bootable CD image). As a last resort I would remove everything except the hard disk (the vmdk file(s)), recreate a virtual machine and reattach the hard disk.
I also rn vmware but I have installed the lts kernel. This is a 2.6.32 kernel and so there is no need to apply weird patches to vmware. But I cannot say it is related to that.

  • Cannot start Hyper-V virtual machine

    Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 Server. It has been now upgraded to Windows 2012. Everything was working fine. But, now I turned off the virtual machine and copied the VHD file to another drive for backup. After this, I am not able to start the old virtual machine.
(The VHDs are in place. I only copied them) However, two another virtual machines are running now without any problem. While trying to start, I am getting the error "the operation cannot be performed while the object is in its current state". These are
    critical server. Any quick thoughts?
    Thanks
    Tom Jacob

    Hi,
If possible please restart the Hyper-V host server, then check whether still has such issue.
If issue still there, launch Event Viewer, check Hyper-V related logs. Post the logs for further troubleshooting.
And I notice you mentioned turned off the virtual machine, do you mean the VM running well in the past? (I mean after you upgrade server to Windows server 2012)
Can you export the VM now? Export it then delete the VM from Hyper-V, import the VM again and check the result.
