Cannot RDP into my Virtual Machine

I have just started with a company that hosts its web server on azure.  We have a VM of server 2012.
The web server apparently got a worm on it that uses the web server to send spam emails.
I RDP into the server to install the anti-virus that i was told to install and it installed correctly.  But when i tried to run the software i got booted out of the server and cannot RDP back in.
We have tried to restart the server and reprovision the server but we still cannot connect.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
Thanks for posting here.
This issue could have happened due to Antivirus blocking the ports. You can fix this issue by following the article mentioned by Craig Landis.
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/azure/en-US/9fb19165-ab6a-45e1-8417-ae3364a62255/remote-connectivity-removed-how-do-i-accessreset?forum=WAVirtualMachinesforWindows
If this doesn't help, you can try resizing the VM to fix the issue.
Also, if you delete the VM and keep its disks, then use the disk to recreate a new VM, the data on the temporary drive(D:) would be lost on the old VM.
Hope this helps you.

  • Installation fails with "Cannot launch the Java Virtual Machine"

I'm trying to install OAS 10.1.3.1. on Windows XPbut after copying all the files the installer starts complaining that it cannot lauch the Java Virtual Machine. Eventually, the process gets to the configuration step where it succeeds with one configuration, then fails with the next, and then finally goes into an eternal loop.
When launching the installer it claims that my environment successfully passes all test for memory size, etc.
Is this a known problem? Is there any way I can get more info about the reason why the JVM could not get lauched? I searched for information in the logs without success. I also tried to play around with the PATH environment variable since I saw some installation note saying that includingthe jre/bin path here could help, but it did not help.
Could anyone, please, give me a hint of how to complete the installation successfully?

    Thanks for the hint.
I had a look in the INI-file of my BPEL installation and this is what it said about memory:
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=" -mx256m"
Still, if I start the BPEL server it finally comes up after issuing a lot of complaints but as soon as I request a page I get this:

  • Is it possible to have a dual boot system with Windows that can ALSO be booted into a virtual machine optionally?

I have been looking for a solution to this for some time now.  I want the convenience of a virtual Windows environment that can run simultaneously with OS X Lion--something I have right now using Virtualbox.  But at the same time, there are graphics and processor-intensive Windows applications (for me, games and engineering applications) that don't run well at all in a virtual machine.  So, here is what I am looking for:
A dual boot (i.e. bootcamp) system running Windows 7 and OS X Lion in which the Windows 7 machine can EITHER be booted as a virtual machine while running OS X OR booted physically so as to utitlize all system resources.  The real trick however, is that I I want the virtual machine and the physical machine to be the exact same system.  Meaning, if I boot physically into Windows and change something... rename a file, run a program and create a file, etc...  those changes will all appear in the virtual machine.
Now, what are my options?  I have read about Virtualbox and VMWare Fusion's "Raw Disk access" function but I can't tell if that's what I'm looking for or not...  I half-thought that they were talking about converting a physical OS into a virtual machine, but without the intention of booting the physical OS again...
Also, I'm open to any software, free or otherwise.  Thanks!

both VMWare Fusion & Parallels Desktop for Mac can use a bootcamp Windows installation as VM exactly like you want.

  • Log into a virtual machine on server 2012 r2 datacenter from a windows 8.1 client login

    Hello,
I have set up a VPN on Windows Server 2012 r2 Datacenter using Hyper-V. Everything seems to be functioning ok using the Hyper V platform. I would like to know if it is possible to connect to a virtual machine on the VPN from a Windows 8.1 client using the
widows login and if it is then how to go about it. If I could have some links to tutorials etc I would be greatful. I have not been able to find anything and I have been looking for days. I would really appreciate some assistance. Thanks in advance.
    Ed

    Hi Ed,
I am sorry to say that I am not quite sure of your requirement. Is the Windows Server 2012 R2 computer a host server in Hyper-V? Did you mean that you want to RDP into a Hyper-V VM from a Windows 8.1 client? If yes, you need to allow Remote Desktop Connections
in guest OS. The network adapter type must allow communication with host machine and network discovery mode and the services supporting network discovery mode must be turned on.

  • Cannot start Hyper-V virtual machine

    Hi,
I have a Windows 2008 Server. It has been now upgraded to Windows 2012. Everything was working fine. But, now I turned off the virtual machine and copied the VHD file to another drive for backup. After this, I am not able to start the old virtual machine.
(The VHDs are in place. I only copied them) However, two another virtual machines are running now without any problem. While trying to start, I am getting the error "the operation cannot be performed while the object is in its current state". These are
    critical server. Any quick thoughts?
    Thanks
    Tom Jacob

    Hi,
If possible please restart the Hyper-V host server, then check whether still has such issue.
If issue still there, launch Event Viewer, check Hyper-V related logs. Post the logs for further troubleshooting.
And I notice you mentioned turned off the virtual machine, do you mean the VM running well in the past? (I mean after you upgrade server to Windows server 2012)
Can you export the VM now? Export it then delete the VM from Hyper-V, import the VM again and check the result.
For more information please refer to following MS articles:

In the past the following procedure did the trick for me, and it worked smoothly and with no subsequent troubles.
But as it is probably totally unsupported, use it if you wish, under your own responsibility (eventually backup everything etc. before trying).
Log in as root to the physical server where your VM is supposed to be running. Better to check if it's present on any of the physical servers in the pool, checking all of them one by one.
From the command line give an:
xm listand verify if the VM guest is listed or not. If it is present, kill it:
xm destroy YOUR_VM_NAME"xm list" again and check that it's not there anymore.
Then log in as root to your VM Manager machine. You'll need to access the XE Database, so you have to set the following environment variables:
    export ORACLE_HOME='/usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server'
(OR ANYWAY THE CORRECT PATH TO YOUR XE ORACLE_HOME)
export ORACLE_SID=XE Then connect to the Database:
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus
    Username: sys as sysdba
Password: YOUR_PWDLet's now check what's written in the relevant table:
    select t.status from ovs.ovs_vm_img t
where t.img_name like 'YOUR_VM_NAME';You'll probably see that it' "Processing" or something like that. If it is, let's fix the status to "Powered Off":
    update ovs.ovs_vm_img t set t.status='Powered Off' where t.img_name like 'YOUR_VM_NAME';
commit;BE CAREFUL: "Powered Off" and "YOUR_VM_NAME" are case sensitive. Use them in the correct way!
    Finally, exit from SQL Plus:
exitGo back to VM Manager console, eventually refresh the screen. Your VM should now appear as "Powered Off". Switch it on.

  • Cannot access Virtual Machine via RDP

    Hi all,
I created a Virtual Machine 2012 Data center gallery last night, and I now cannot rdp into it.  It is using port 3389 for both public and private.  When I ping my VM, I get a request time out.  Any ideas what might be happening?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Good to hear that and thanks for your feedback.
Just to add, if you delete the VM and keep its disks, then use the disk to recreate a new VM, the data on the temporary driver(D:) would be lost on the old VM.

  • Windows Pro 8.1 Hyper-V enabled - cannot connect to Virtual Machines

I'm running Windows Pro 8.1. Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. Account is in Admin, Hyper-V, RDP groups. I open Hyper-V manager. Create a new Virtual Switch (internal) and name it. Then create a new virtual machine - name it, place it in a folder under
C:, Specify Generation (tried both 1 and 2), startup memory 512mb not dynamic, Lan- select the virtual switch created earlier, create an vhdx hard disk, and install the O.S. from an ISO on C. Creates the new VM under Virtual Machines.
I select the new VM, click connect, then start. A window opens with the new VM on server and says it's connecting to it and it's status is Running. In the Hyper-V manager  in the New Virtual Machine pane (bottom pane) it shows a image that
appears to have a login screen. The VM window that displays the "Connection to" eventually throws an error : Virtual machine connection: Cannot connect to the virtual machine, Try to connect again. contact your admin, Try again etc. selecting connect
eventually errors out with check integration services etc. I've read the logs, there are no errors. When I try to shut down or turn off the vm it doesn't respond. I've configured this before on different boxes. It's the work environment for the MCSA 70-462
training kit Preparation. any direction would be greatly appreciated.

That is correct.  This has been well documented.
The WMI namespace changed.  2008 and 2008 R2 now of the v1 virtualization namespace.  2012 knows of both v1 and v2.  And 2012 R2 only knows the v2 virtualization namespace.
That said, there is more to this.
2008 management console only knows 2008 features.  So if you connect it to a 2012 server to manage the 2012 server, you cannot manage any of the features released with 2008 R2 nor 2012.
So, take this second point, mix it with the first point and I recommend that your management server / client release matches the release of the Server you are managing.

  • Cannot connect to virtual machine in hyper-v

One of our servers got corrupted and I managed to salvage the VHDs of the two VMs we were running on it. The server was Win Serv 2003 and was running virtual server.
Now I'm trying to import the VHDs into Hyper-V on a newer 2008-R2 server and while the VM seemed to import just fine I cannot connect to it. Each time I try it gives me this error:
"Cannot connect to the virtual machine. Try to connect again. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator."
I think the issue could be that the VM was apart of a domain and now I'm trying to connect with a server that is on a different domain and has a different DNS.
Is there anyway I can save this VM and not have to start from scratch?

    Hi,
Is Windows Server 2003 is a DC? Is there a backup DC for Windows server 2003 if it is a DC?
If you logon with domain account, you cannot connect to the origin domain if you don't have DC or you haven't restored DC. To fix this issue, you can restore Windows 7 to the point when windows 7 doesn't domain if you have such a restore point.
Also, if you have DC and still connect to the virtual machine, i recommend you to log on the Windows 7 client with local adminstrator , disjoin from origin domain, then re-join the domain. At last, it will work well.

As far you are using VirtualBox, your processor capabilities shouldn't counted (min from my own experience while setting up the virtual machine. Change the Domain Type under configuation node to XEN PVM and try again. Most probably the virtual machine will start running.
One more thing, enable promiscuous mode -> Allow allow with your network configuration (if bridged network is in use) for the VM Server prior you try to SSH into the virtual machine (your guest on VM Server)
All the best and post your test results

  • Thoughts on installing CF 10 Beta into windows XP virtual Machine

    Hello everyone,
I've got a pretty easy questions for everyone. Like many people out there I'm wanting to try out some things in the 10 beta. However I only have one development computer that is currently running CF9. Since I only have the one system I wanted to see what people thought about installing CF10 into windows virtual machine (XP Mode). I figure that way I can have both running and not worry about one affecting the other.
Is there any known reason why this couldn't work?
    Thanks for your thoughts.

  • Error when creating a new Virtual Machine from VMs and Templates

I try to created a VM from a Template. On a Step 1.5 (Install VM components) and falid. This is a error:
    Error (10659)
Cannot run Sysprep on virtual machine SRV2k8test because the template does not have a virtual hard disk attached that has been generalized.
    Recommended Action
Specify a template that has been generalized and then try the operation again.
    we expect your help.

Sorry to dredge up an old topic - but got some really weird behavior.
I knew that I had to sysprep the vhdx's before bringing them into a template. I've done this (verified twice), and I still end up with the error list at the top of the thread:
    Error (10659)
Cannot run Sysprep on virtual machine SRV2k8test because the template does not have a virtual hard disk attached that has been generalized.
    Recommended Action
Specify a template that has been generalized and then try the operation again.
    we expect your help.
I am running SCVMM 2012 R2, and things were actually running smooth as of three days ago. Templates built before then are still working and can be deployed with no problem.
However, building a new template today gives the above error when testing the deployment.

  • Trouble connecting to RDP from single client machine.

I have a Server 2012 machine running remote desktop services.  Users at our branch offices connect to it over the corporate VPN.
It has been running for over a year now with no significant issues, until this past Tuesday.
I have exactly one client machine that immediately disconnects upon connecting to the machine.  This does not generate very helpful error codes - On the server side, just a generic 4005 - The Windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated.
All other client machines can connect to the server without issue, including other client machines in that branch office.  Furthermore, attempting to simply remote desktop into another 2012 server produces the same results on this machine, while remote
desktop to another windows 7 client machine seems to work just fine.
I have seen some similar problems mentioned, but they typically involve a server that consistently fails with all clients, whereas I have a single client machine that suddenly cannot RDP to Server 2012 machines.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Have you check with other user account on that client machine?
Does ping response successfully to the server?
Firstly please try to run sfc /scannow, check performance for that system, check event viewer whether can find any particular error\event id. For more information you can refer below article.
Fix “The Windows Logon Process has Unexpectedly Terminated”
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Remote Desktop Services Role on a Virtual Machine (VM) Requirements

Does MS recommend installing RDS Role on Hardware or Virtual Machine? I have a use case where I have about 35 people that will be using the Internet Explorer and possibly run additional piece of software. I'm having trouble determining if the RDS Role on
Virtual Machine will be able to sustain the load of so many users. Should the same performance metric used in hardware selection be appropriate to apply for Virtual Machines. We are using VMware on pretty powerful DELL hardware, which is also hosting
120 existing VMs as of now. So my questions is would VM with 4 CPU's, 8GB of RAM, 80 GB Virtual Disk and 1 GBPs NIC would be handle the job?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
There is no any particular requirement to run RDS on physical or virtual machine. But if you want to install RD Virtulization role then you need to see that Hyper- V role installed because “when the RD Virtualization Host role service is installed, Server
Manager checks to see if Hyper-V is installed. If Hyper-V is not installed, Server Manager will install it”. And Hyper-V role cannot be installed on virtual machine so for that you need to install on Physical machine. Other all RDS role can be installed
    on virtual machine also.
Install the Remote Desktop Virtualization Host Role Service
In addition, please check below articles.
    1. Remote Desktop Services: Server and client requirements
    2. RDS Hardware Sizing and Capacity Planning Guidance.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks,
    Dharmesh
