Cannot see iPhone on network

I have a new iPhone5 and a year old MBA.  The MBA was just recently upgraded to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 (the latest).
When I use the MBA network utility to try and ping my iPhone (which is on my home wifi network) ... it isnt visible.  The iPhone connects to the network fine.  The MBA is connected to the network.  The reason I am trying to resolve this is that the eWallet application doesnt want to synch and it seems to be because the desktop app cannot 'see' the iPhone app.
Any ideas on why the iPhone is invisible?  BTW, I have confirmed it is on the network as I can see it using the Linksys E2000 web admin tool.

Ilium has some tips here that may help:

If they don't, I'd suggest contacting their technical support.

I cannot see "iPhone" in the list of interfaces when trying to configure it in the network options. Do you know how to fix it ?

When I go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES > NETWORK i don't see "iPhone" in the list of Services (AirPort, Ethernet, etc.)
If I try to add a new service (by clicking + ) iPhone doesn't show up in the list of "interfaces" available.
That sounds a bit weird because iTunes can normally sync-up, backup and recover my iPhone.By the way "Personal Hotspot" is already set.

Your wifi network is not working. Restart it. Delete your wifi settings for this network via System Preferences, Network, WiFi, Advanced. Reconfigure and try again.

  • Cannot see any Wireless networks

After installing the latest security update for 10.3.9, I can no longer see any wireless networks. I have tried reseating my airport card along with unpluging the antenna with no luck. I have also repaired permissions and trashed the Network Interface preference file, again nada. Another suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have a relatively new Airport Express base station at home and I have also tried testing the connection at several wireless hotspots.

I had the same problem and that's why I ventured here for the first time after an hour's battle this morning.
My solution: restart the computer. Just when the menu has gone out of sight, you get the Keychain pop-up box informing you that the airport application has been changed and whether you wish to allow Keychain access to this new version as well. Here's the tricky part. You must react within 1 (one) second to the pop-up screen and click the "always allow"-button. Once the computer has rebooted, you should have access to your Airport network once more.
Clunky? Yes. With me, the problem was even more bizarre. I could see my trusted network in the Airport drop-down menu but even if the computer seemed to connect to it, I couldn't get an IP. Sometimes the whole upper right corner icon bar would freeze if I tried connecting.
Puzzling? You bet. I'm rather perplexed as to why I couldn't just solve this problem by removing and re-adding the Airport Keychain entry with the new version. I can only conclude: thank you, Apple, for making patches that work.
Experienced people: how do I relay my bug report to Apple?

  • Latest iTunes update cannot see iPhone 4

I updated to the latest version of iTunes today after prompting from iTunes which advised there was a new update.
Following this I restarted my Windows PC, then opened up iTunes.
I then connected my iPhone 4 using the USB connector.
    My PC recognised the device
The device was not seen in iTunes
    The device would not sync.
I then removed iTunes and installed an old Nov 2013 (or previous version) one and my iPhone 4 will now sync correctly.
I am not too keen on updating the s/w until anyone else has advised me that I should retry.

    Hy there,
In order for you to solve this problem you have to follow these stept if your running windows:
1'st step is to go into the device manager
2 step is to go to portable devices (it is rught under network adapters)
3 step is to right clic apple iphone and click update drivers
4 step is to brows your drivers from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
After that your itunes will pump up alown and youl see your iphone right there.
Good luck and sry for my bad righting.

  • Brother MFC 7440N - cannot see printer on network after software update!

Hi I have done a software update to OSX 10.8.3 on my macbook pro. But now I can't see my Brother MFC 7440N printer on the network. I have been on the Brother website and have downloaded all of the software / drivers for MAC, but there doesn't seem to be one for OSX 10.8.4. Can anyone suggest what I should do next.
By the way, I have already tried to reset the printers etc, but that didn't work as the printer cannot be found on the network.

From the printer (check your manual)
In case you can't find the manual here is the relevant section.
You're not going to change it so stop at section 4 (IP Address) don't proceed to 5 (Change)

  • Windows 8.1 cannot "see" NAS under Network in MyPC

So we purchased and set up a NAS recently.  It works perfectly and is UNIX based and has SAMBA enabled.  So here's the kicker:
    * Windows 7, No issues - NAS pops up under Network automatically.
    * Windows 8.1, It never pops up under Network
    Windows 8.1 Troubleshooting
    * No Issues for pinging the IP address for the NAS
    * No issues for pinging the server name for the NAS
    * Turned off the Windows Firewall - Still cannot detect the NAS
    * Using the Control Center software for the NAS, it can detect the NAS by IP and server name.  Also via the Control Center (which is an administrative console) I can log in so its not a credential issue)
    * Flushed and re-registered DNS, no effect
    * Both computers are in WORKGROUP
    * Both computers are set for NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
NOTE: I'm using Windows 8.1 Home so I can't access local policies or connect to a Domain (even if I had one)
There's probably something in Windows 8.1 that I'm missing but I'm just banging my head here.  Help!

Hi there so I've taken a look:
    * When I open a command window, I can ping the IP and the computer name of the NAS
    * But when I look through a browser\windows explorer\My Computer and punch in an IP or computer name, it can't connect to it.
    * Nor does it show up under Network (Places)
    After checking
    * Network Discovery is ON
    * File and printer sharing is ON
    * I've updated the network wireless driver in Windows 8.1 as well - No effect
I know its not a firewall issue as I temporarily disabled the Windows firewall - no effect.  Its not a routing issue since I can ping the NAS from a command windows and my Win 7 box is on the same network as the 8.1 box
Is there some Windows service that is required somewhere?

  • Cannot see iPhone movies within Aperture

Movies just show up as black fields and a warning that it is a unsupported video format. But I only use the iPhone 4 at the moment. That should be no problem at all -- right? Thanks for any help!

    Hi Kai,
Yes, that's the same problem I had. My iPhone was importing into a directory that my wife had access to.
I discovered that you can keep a single Aperture library, but it needs to be in a directory that is not permissioned, or is only permissioned for your use alone and is owned by you.  If any of the movies or the library itself are downloaded into a directory that is in any way shared with another user, or created outside your user directory, or the movies are initiallially imported by another user, you may get problems.
The way you can check if this is your problem or not is to create a new library in your personal user directory, move one movie into that same directory. Then import it as normal, and see if you have the same problem.  If you do, then you must have a different issue and you can point Aperture back to your current library. But if it works, you have the issue I recently solved.
If you only use the library yourself, you can simply move it and the location your iphone imports to, to your personal user directory.  You might have to reimport all the movies, but I didn't have to rebuild my entire library.
If you want to share the library with another user, the solution is more complicated.  Create a new partitiion in Disk Utilities, I named it "Shared drive". Then in Finder, select Get Info on the new drive. select Ignore Permissions on this drive, and then move the library and movies over.  It should now work fine.  Note that any user will be able to see files put into the new partition, and the only way to avoid that is to use an ACL using Terminal, but that didn't work for me and is above my pay grade!
    Good luck,
    Dale

  • Windows machine cannot see TC/AP network

I've set up TC to run a network and everything works fine with my Macbook Air. The problem is that my windows machine can't even see the network created? The SSID is being broadcasted since I can see it with my mac. If I plug in the old router, I can see it with both machines.
Airport utility is installed on the PC but it can't even find the device and it is within 20 feet. I've reset the TC and tried a number of settings but no luck. I've ensured it broadcasts as b/n.
    Any ideas?

Did you the same wpa password as your previous router? The SSID isnt hidden on Time Capsule is it?

  • Cannot establish iphone usb network

I've been using my iphone to connect my macbook to the aether.  I can no longer use the usb only connection.  The iphone no longer shows up in "System Preferences", Network, as a network adapter.  I can still connect using both bluetooth and wireless.  I'm using 10.6.8 on the macbook and 5.1.1 on the iPhone 4 with Verizon as my carrier.  iTunes still connects and syncs to the phone and I've tried two cables.  Any thoughts on how I can restore the iPhone to the list of available adaptors?

Yes and I've swapped ports to no avail.  It's getting worse, I've now lost Bluetooth connectivity and my "Bluetooth Pan" is no longer listed in System Preferences, Network.  I'm down to wirelessly connecting the macbook to the iPhone and I' afraid it'll puke soon.  It's how I'm doing this.
edit:  I've created a new "Bluetooth PAN (2)" in Network and successfully established a bluetooth connection between my iPad and macbook.
edit:  I've re-established connectivity between macbook and iPhone.  Wifi is off on all devices, macbook, iPhone, and iPad.

  • Cannot see the correct network volumes

I have recently added a new user account with administrator priveledges when I try to use that account to mount network volumes then the only volumes I see are "Applications", "Library" and "Users". Apple knows about the problem because they address it on their website and in Mac Help. They state that it happens if auto login is selected, in my case this is off and their 2nd fix is to log out and log back in again. This doesn't help either! The other users don't have this problem.
Does anyone know who I can see the network volumes again?

I had that problem, but it was for all users, so I don't think what worked for me on that would be the same for you.
Might try dragging that user's pref folder to the desktop & relog...
    /Users/nnnn/Library/Preferences
Though some user stuff is still in...
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/
    /Library/Preferences/

  • One Machine cannot see 5 Ghz network

    Hey folks;
    Situation is this:
Have a 500 gb TC broadcasting 5 Ghz 802.11n only network. My MacBook Pro sees this network and connects to it fine. My partner's Sony Vaio running Vista does not see the network, at all! It's not even as if she can see it but can't talk to it but it just doesn't appear. Manually entering the SSID did no good (which I wouldn't imagine it would but had to be certain so I tried).
I've already checked with Vaio support and they were only slightly more useful in troubleshooting this than my cats would be.
To make matters more interesting, we have a Belkin N1 router broadcasting a 802.11n (b/g compatible) at 2.4 Ghz which she can connect to just fine without any problems. It goes without saying that the MBP can connect to any network.
The two networks, DK and DK5Ghz are using different channels (9 and 36 respectively) and I turned off wide channels (reluctantly) on the TC wireless.
The issue here is that the TC hosts the shared network drive (a Hitachi EAS) and the printer. No second, high speed network, no printer, no shares. Since the only wireless way of making the TC/TM combination work in anything like a timeframe I'm at all willing to deal with, I am loathe to make the TC network join the slower n/g/b network because I've noticed a measurable improvement in TM backup performance using the 5Ghz network (as I should). Any ideas any of you folks might have would be appreciated.
Oh and before anyone asks, I verified that the wireless card in the Vaio does support 802.11n (in point of fact, she connected to that network once but has been unable to do so since that first time).
    Cheers
    Adrienne

I am having a similar problem and could use some help. I have an new iMac and an older iBook G4 and recently purchased a 500 GB Time Capsule (TC).....here is the problem:
I have tried to reconfigure my TC to Radio Mode: 802.11n only (5 GHz) to get away from 2.4 GHz phone interference in my house. When I make this change using my iMac, the iMac can see and connect to the 5 GHz network. BUT my iBook G4 (1.42 GHz Power PC G4 with 1 GB ram and running OSX 10.5.4) can't see this 5 GHz network. When I switch back to the default 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) network the iBook sees and connects to this 2.4 GHz newtwork.
I know the simplest solution would be to buy a 5.8 GHz telephone and keeps my network configured to 2.4 GHz....but before I crack open the wallet, is there any other solutions? Thanks.

  • Cannot see iphone texts on Message app anymore.

I am missing texts because they only seem to be going to the Message app (on my MacBook), and not to the iphone. It did not used to be this way. Please help. I don't know why it suddenly changed. Could it have something to do with my Notification Center settings?

I Just got my iPad last week.  I downloaded some games that were on my iPhone and then I had an issue yesterday where the App Store would just pull up a blank white screen.  I restored my iPad and now it works but the search feature for iPhone games no longer works.  Is this b/c I updated to iOS 6??  I downloaded the games originally before the update but now that its updated, I can't search for those games again??  It's frustrating and tech support is clueless.
