Capsule Not Picking Up IP Address (among other issues)

I just received my brand new Time Capsule, and am having a heck of a time getting it working.
I have an existing network with 3 Express stations. I unplugged them all, plugged in everything to the Time Capsule & cranked it up. In the set up, I asked it to get the settings from my existing network. Well, first it appeared to set up fine but it failed to establish an internet connection, then I couldn't even see it in Airport Utility. I unplugged everything and went back to my old config, and couldn't see any of my Express stations in Airport Utility either until I restarted my iMac.
So I thought I would try using it to create a brand new network. I reset the Capsule, plugged in just the power, and went through the process of creating a brand new network with the Capsule as the base station. Part way though the process, I plugged in the cable modem to the Capsule. Configured using DHCP, it seemed OK, but it still couldn't establish an internet connection. Then it disappeared from being visible in Airport Utility again. I moved the ethernet connector back to my Express base and all was fine with my old network. I restarted, and still can't see the Capsule as a device in Airport, much less back up to it.
So I can't get my Capsule to stay visible to Airport Utility for more than 2 minutes, and when it is running, it won't pick up an IP address to connect to an obviously live port.
Now what? Right now, it's as useless as a brick. Apple used to be so straightforward, but this is anything but.

After two weeks of trying, I still can't get my Capsule to stay visible to Airport Utility for more than 2 minutes, and when it is running, it still won't pick up an IP address to connect to an obviously live port.
Since no one on this forum has suggestions for a fix, should I ship it back to the Apple Online store to get my money back?

  • Photoshop CC not displaying correct image sizes, among other issues.

Hey, so I'd like a bit of help here!
I got my new laptop from the school a couple of weeks ago and photoshop’s been funky ever since I got it. It’s a brand new Macbook, and it's running Photoshop CC.
First things first, it won’t recognize some of the brushstrokes I make. It will show that I've made them, but they won’t show up in the history panel. I'll have to make another stroke for it to register both of them. (Making undoing things a real pain.) Also, some of the keyboard shortcuts I use won't work in a really similar way. If I go to switch to my brush by pressing b, it occasionally won't register it unless I make an additional brush stroke. This works with all of the other shortcuts I use.
In addition, file sizes are all kinds of messed up. Here’s the most recent example. The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
Here’s another example. This one is 1254 x 1201, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB, shown at 100% zoom. The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M. I don’t feel like that’s right? I don't remember any other versions of Photoshop having images be that large.
Maybe it’s my computer settings? Right now I have the resolution set on "best for display," but even if i use the "scaled" option and change sizes, the images are still too small.
I don't know if I would be able to uninstall and then re-install Photoshop because the school has control over those sorts of things and there are certain programs that you cannot remove. I've tried restarting the program as well as the laptop, but neither of those helped.
if anyone can help me, I’d really appreciate it! Thank you!

    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html
    As for the specifics:
The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M.
If you double the dimensions of an image the area is increased fourfold – so what is the problem there?
The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
The introduction or Retina (and other high resolution) displays and browsers actually up-scaling images to accommodate those screen resolutions seems to have confused some users about the concept of pixels.

  • WRT54GS Not picking up ip address

I have a WRT54GS router, set it up about a year ago, and it's been working all this time just fine. The only thing is that I wanted to modify its settings a couple days ago and forgot the admin password I had set it to. So I reset the router. Should be no big deal but the problem is that it now will not get an ip address from the cable modem (Time Warner). I've powered down the cable modem (and yes I removed the back up battery) and the router and restarted them in prober order. No ip address. Then I updated the firmware on the router, reset the modems and still no ip address from the cable modem. I know that the cable modem's DHCP is working because my lap top can connect to it and get an ip address. The wireless on the router works, and when connected by ethernet to any of the four ports I get an ip address from the router just fine. I've worked with a lot of routers over the years and have never run into a problem like this. I'm stumped. Does anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks,
    --Matt

After resetting your router you lost it's configuration and there was a need to re-configure it...
As your Internet Service Providor is Cable(Time Warner) you should always follow this link to re-configure your router...

  • FileVault Stuck Decrypting (Among Other Issues)

Recently I made the mistake of trying out FileVault to encrypt the files on my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately I came to realize that this is a very tedious process that can take days to complete and slow down the performance of my machine. After trying multiple methods to either speed up the encryption process (which initially changed back and forth from "estimating time remaining" to "106 days remaining") or begin decryption through recovery mode and disk utility, I'm now stuck with a FileVault decryption status that's stuck, and a near useless computer.
im currently attempting to backup using Time Machine onto an external drive in order to do a full restore (since as far as I know that's the only true solution to the problem). Only issue is that it backs up depressingly slow (about 1 MB every 10 minutes, with a total of 224 GB to back up).
If there's anyone out there that could perhaps give me insight on how to repair this issue more smoothly, that'd be great.

    A
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive or other storage device to hold the data.
    1. Start up from the Recovery partition, from Internet Recovery, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
If you use FileVault 2, then you must first unlock the startup volume. Select its icon ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. Enter your login password when prompted.
    2. If Method 1 fails because of disk errors, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    3. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    4. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    B
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Disk Utility.
In the Disk Utility window, select the icon of the startup volume from the list on the left. It will be nested below another disk icon, usually with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar. When prompted, enter the login password of a user authorized to unlock the volume, or the alternate decryption key that was generated when you activated FileVault.
Then, from the menu bar, select
              File ▹ Turn Off Encryption
    Enter the password again.
You can then restart as usual, if the system is working. Decryption will be completed in the background. It may take several hours, and during that time performance will be reduced.
If you can't turn off encryption in Disk Utility because the menu item is grayed out, you'll have to erase the volume and then restore the data from a backup. Select the Erase tab, and then select
              Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    from the Format menu.
You can then quit to be returned to the main Recovery screen. Follow these instructions if you back up with Time Machine. If you use other backup software, follow its developer's instructions.
Don't erase the volume unless you have at least two complete, independent backups. One is not enough to be safe.

  • System Not Picking Permitted Payee address when the Main vendor has PO Box.

    Hi,
When we are doing payments to Permitted Payee ( Vendor ) the system is printing the checks with PO Box ( Post Box no. ) number of the Main vendor .
But when we deleted the PO Box number field in Main vendor, then the system is printing the check with Permitted payee address.
When Main vendor number has PO Box field populated with a number, selected credit address ( Permitted Payee address ) will not print on check.
When there is a Permitted Payee the system has to consider that Permitted Payee address only. But system is not doing like that.
Please advice what is the problem.
( They are paying through APP run ).

Can you please tell me where it is.
    Thanks for your prompt reply.

  • Daily loss of IP address among other things

    Officejet Pro 8500 A910
    Windows 7-64bit
    I love this printer!  Usually!
    Two big problems though:
On an almost daily basis the printer changes it's IP address.  I have to go to the printer, print the new network information, go back to my computer and re install the IP address.  WHY?!?!  This is beyond annoying.   It's only been happening for the last 3 months or so.   It says there is no software update or anything.
Second, I purchased this printer mainly because of the 2-sided printing feature.  Unfortunatly, when printing on the second side, it screws up the margins.  The top margin is always moved up to almost being OFF of the page.   This looks terrible, especially when I need this for college papers.
    please help!

@ revitzer - One can actually setup a static IP for the printer itself. If you have the current ip of the printer, obtainable from the front panel of the 8500a, then you can type this into a web browser like a webpage. This is how one accesses the embedded web server (EWS) of the printer.
    * Click the Networking tab at the top of the web page
    * Select, under the wireless option on the left side of the screen, IPv4
    * Set the manual IP address to the current IP that you used to access the web page
    * Set the other values to the values your network uses (most subnet masks are 255.255.255.0 for example)
    * One can also set the DNS servers manually. If you are going to do this it might be easiest to use Google's DNS servers (8.8.8.8 primary and 8.8.4.4 for secondary)
As to the duplexing issue, I have heard of margin issues with some models that has been resolved by using a 990c driver. See Shane_R's thread located here for information about how to do this.

  • Time Capsule not registering correct IP Address

I had no issue when I was on DSL service and when I switched to a Cable modem I am getting the wrong IP Address on my TC. It should be getting a 173 address but instead is assigning to a 169. I have tried power cycling and to no avail. When I hook up the modem directly my MacBook gets the correct address and internet works. But when the TC is in between nothing.

Even though you have tried power recycling, I would suggest that you try the following to get everyone communicating again:
    o Power-down the modem, TC, and computer(s).
o While all the devices are powered-down, perform a "hard" reset on the TC. When completed, power-down the TC.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the TC; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-up the computer(s).
All devices, whether connected by wire or wireless, to the TC should now be able to access the Internet. Please post back your results.

  • [SOLVED] eth0 not found after a reboot, among other things

I am having a bit of a crisis here. Updated my packages today and rebooted to find that eth0 was labeled as 'no such device', Xorg freezes on startup, and my bluetooth mysteriously stopped working. I have no idea where to even begin looking for a correlation between these problems.

I'm guessing you don't have /lib as a symlink to usr/lib and you picked up kmod-10.
    Bingo.
    Thank you sir.

As this article says, your device must be turned on, locked, connected to a power source, and WiFi.

  • LE8 won't remember audio recording path (among other issues...)

Why won't LE8 remember the audio recording path I set for each project? Each time I open a project I've been working on (by dropping the project onto the LE8 icon in the dock-LAME) and arm a track to record, it says that that the path to the external HD is not found (-but it knows the name of the external HD somehow). I'll then open the record prefs, set the recording path correctly to my external HD and the coressponding folder, save the project, and record without incident (or at least the same incident) for the rest of my session. The next time I open the project the same thing happens.
LE7 never had this issue.... weird and annoying.

  • IPhone won't make or receive calls, among other issues

So I've been having a lot of problems with my iPhone 3GS. About 80% of the time it won't make calls, and about 50% of the time it won't receive calls. I'll only know if someone called me if they told me they called or left a voicemail. Every single time this happens I have full service. It's also started getting really picky about sending texts.
I'm basically fed up at this point. I'm on my second sim card, I've taken my phone to the Apple store three times, and I've been turning it off, resetting it, and switching airplane mode on and off as a last resort. I kind of need my phone to make calls, which it for some reason does not want to do. Any suggestions anyone has about what to do are appreciated.
Also, my phone has been having issues when it's been plugged in. I've been using the wall charger that came with the phone, yet I've gotten the message after plugging it in that it is a device that doesn't support charging. It constantly vibrates while it's plugged in as well, as though it's being unplugged and plugged back in and takes a really long time to actually charge (I had it plugged in for about 20 minutes and it went from 52% battery to 53% battery). I don't know if this is an issue with the phone or if the cable just died on me.
Either way, this is really obnoxious. I can't wait until my contract is up so I can get an Android.

Try cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone. A dry toothbrush is a good tool to use. Also inspect it with a magnifying glass to make sure there are no bent pins.
You might also have a bad cable.
For the other problems have you Restored the phone and set it up as a new phone?
And I have to ask, just to confirm, the phone is not jailbroken, correct?

  • Software Update not working post Mt. Lion install + other issues

Held out as long as I could, but finally purchased & downloaded Mt. Lion, yesterday. Install seemed to be OK., until I started noticing odd behaviors. Software Update, is not working in the manner to which I am familiar; the usual window does not open, instead I'm taken to the App Store, again & again.
I did go to Support Downloads & got the Java & Security updates which downloaded & installed.
Icons of apps are not appearing in Dock; such as Onyx which shows an icon which looks like old Appleworks!
    Is it true that Apple Mail no longer has Save As a Draft, option? Intermintent problems with sending mail;
says it can't connect with outgoing server but when I check, it is connected & communicating with that server.
Repaired Permissions; re-started in Safe mode; then re-started, again. Finally, decided to boot from Ext HD into MAC OS 10.6.8. and here I am.
Really miss the lovely beach scenes for Screen Saver in Mt. Lion; the offerings are so limited, and ugly.
    Thanks for your time,

Check Launchpad.  Your apps may appear there.
Onyx may need to be updated to work in ML.

There is no more Software Update I'm sad to say.  AppStore has taken over the updates now.  Look at the top of the AS window & you will see "Updates."

All of the OS screensavers & desktop pictures can be found on the net.  Do a Google search for them.
I do not use Apple's Mail, so I cannot comment on it.
Recommend that you do what I did;  purchase OS X Mountain Lion: The Missing Manual - David Pogue .  This book is very easy reading, non technichal & non geeky.  I strongly recommend this book as it takes you step-by-step through Mountain Lion.

  • GetJSON not working in Chrome & Firefox plus other issues.

    Hello!
I am working on a searchable video gallery. Please see the code here. I'm sure that my code is far from optimal.
I'm currently running OSX 10.9, and updated versions of Chrome, Safari and Firefox.
I reading a (verified) JSON file to get information about each video (name, url, tags etc) and am reading that into an object with getJSON. I am then taking this information, converting the tags into strings, and then, after removing duplicates, I'm using jquery ui autocomplete to make a drop down smart search. I've added the js files using the scripts button, and the css with yepnope. Upon selecting an entry and pressing enter, I remove currently displaying videos, and then add videos that match the current tag.
Bug 1 (Minor): When I preview this in Chrome everything works perfectly. In Firefox, there is one bug, where if I highlight the text in the search box, I can no longer enter text, and I hear alert audio. Safari gives a 404.
Bug 2 (Critical): However, when I go to publish, and run the html file directly (either in the publish folder, or in the root folder), everything works in Safari, but in Chrome and Firefox getJSON doesn't run. Neither videos nor the boxes that house them display either. I've put $(document.body).append("text") lines throughout the code, and nothing displays in or below the getJSON procedure.
It feels like there is some file that is contained within the *.an file that I am missing when I am trying to run the html separately.
Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you very much.
