CDRW disc won't allow multiple burns

I have a 2.1 GHz iMac G5 and I am using a CD-RW disc. I am trying to burn files to the disc more than once but it says that the CD can't be modified. The disc is rewritable so why can't it rewrite? Any thoughts on this one? Thanks

Double check to make sure you are using a CD-RW CD.
Make sure the CD is not smudged, cracked and/or dirty.

Repair permissions if you have not done so already.
Your drive may need cleaning. Cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.
Try another CD-RW brand.
Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type cd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.
Use the same search keyword as above.

A strange behavior in iPhoto 6 :
Easy to reproduce, it happens all the time (on my machine at least).
* Select a couple of pictures (+/- 150 MB)
* Go to Share > Burn
* Insert a blank CD
* Burn.
OK, it burns nicely. But ...
* Eject the CD
* Put that CD back in the computer to read the pictures.
* I have the message "This disc does not allow more burns. Insert a Blank CD"
* Then iPhoto ejects the CD.
Workaround ?
* Quit iPhoto
* Insert the CD again
* It reads and works OK.
Anyone the same trouble ?

I just encountered that problem this morning. I quit iPhoto and put the burned disc back in and saw in the finder that the burn worked. I did not try opening iPhoto again.
But ... I did just try to put that disc into another Mac. While the disc loaded in iPhoto, it did not show any thumbnails. I had to manually drag the photo originals from the disc into iPhoto to import them.
Anyone else like to chime in on this?

Time capsule won`t allow multiple devices to connect to the internet

I`ve got a 2TB time capsule that worked fine.
I moved to this condo where the is already a wired internet service available to each apartment. The access is made through a login and password whenever You open you browser, if connected directly on the WAN cable. No multiple logs are allowed.
When I used my Time Capsule to create a wi-fi network and serve as a router I could access the internet on my MacBook over the wi-fi just created. No problem at all. But whenever I try to log other devices (iphone, apple tv) it asks for my ap login and password, and of course it states that there`s already an active connection to that user and won`t grant me access.
I`ve then borrowed a tp-lynk router from a friend of mine, created a wi-fi network (without the time capsule on it), it asked for the log in and all but then everything worked fine and I could use all my devices through this network.
Back to the time capsule, I`ve tried different settings. First one was bridge mode, but it didn`t work. Tried DHCP & NAT but had the double NAT issue.

but it would`t work either.
My guess is that somehow Time Capsule is attributing different IP addresses to each device that enters the Wi-Fi network, and that`s the reason I can`t access the net, since the service provider won`t allow more than one connection. On the other hand TP-Lynk was able to connect to the internet service through one IP address and then connect to other devices.
Any idea on how to solve this issue?

Tried DHCP & NAT but had the double NAT issue.
If you got the TC working and had double NAT .. sorry but the TP-Link is exactly the same.. you cannot distribute a single IP without double NAT.. the TC tells you it is a problem.. the TP-Link doesn't.. otherwise there is no difference.
But it is important the double NAT is setup right.. ie you must use different ranges.. please tell us the IP you get from a directly connected computer..
If it is 10.x.x.x then you should move the TC to 192.168. rather than default IP of 10.0.1.1 .. the TP-Link already will use 192.168.x.x. which might also explain why it works better.

Original Mac Pro Installation Discs won't allow me to reinstall!

I just got hold of a second hand Mac Pro. All seems good until I notice that there's no iPhoto on it, and thats a bit of a must as its for a Photography Studio!
Went to install from the "Mac Pro Applications Install DVD" and get an error:
Alert: You cannot install this software on your computer
So I thought I'd just reinstall the whole system (don't really have time to spend hours troubleshooting) but I get the same problem with the "Mac Pro Max OS X Install DVD".
So any ideas? The discs came in the box with the Mac and everything else seems ok.... has someone fobbed me off with the wrong discs?

The disks it came with aren't for that model, aren't OEM
And it would have been better to "troubleshoot" the iPhoto, though I would say it isn't a Pro app or one that a Studio would rely on and use.
A box set of retail OS X + iLife/iWork
2006 had dual / dual-core, and 2009 had a single processor quad-core.
5GB though won't take you very far.
If the Install DVD says "10.4.x" what do you see inside or in System Profile about hardware model, graphic card, processors, type of RAM?

I have macbook pro, iChat AV 3.1.8 and I can video chat no problem but i can't start or join multiple
(3 way) video chats. So I can only ever do one to one.

First have you set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
Restart iChat.
Do a speedtest and tell us the upload and download speeds http://www.speedtest.net/

Backup IPSEC connection multiple remote Internet egress sites won't allow multiple any encryption domains

I have currently setup an ASA at a remote site in the middle of the USA which tunnels all traffic back to our West coast HQ to use its Internet connection. It works great. However, I also want to have another tunnel to our East Coast HQ to use its Internet connection should a failure occur on the West Coast. I'm bascially using the "any" remote network as a default route to the Internet via the IPSEC VPN tunnel.
The ASA gives me a warning in ASDM if I have multiple connections setup that over lap. I.E. I have Local Network: 10.0.0.1 Remote Network: any. I cannot repeat this for a different connection profile as a backup.
Is there anyway the ASA can support having multiple "any" tunnels to primary and backup sites?

Gave up and called TAC.
Its easy to setup backup peer's for IPSEC tunnels, first off, can't use IKEv2 (boo) had to go back to IKEv1, have to use keep alives.
Never could get the recommended "originate only" on the remote sites working correctly, but at "bidirectrional" worked fine, doesn't matter because I'm using a dynamic IP at the remote sites, the head ends will never initiate the VPNs (I don't have the "static IP" box checked).
Anyway, in ASDM go to Site to Site VPN section, then Advanced, create a tunnel group for each peer primary and backup. then in the Crypto Maps section select the static entry you are working with, in the Peer settings below put the new backup peer and click add.
Best practice is to have the remote sites use originate only and headends be answer only so the headends don't initiate the tunnels and cause a "loop"
Now to mess around with the EIGRP routing to finish this all off. If anyone has hints let me know, my devices don't support IP SLA or else I would have been done with this already :(

Rather than burn directly to disk follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Reason I'm trying to reset is that it seems to be not recognising the administrator name as have changed password in System Preferences - Accounts.

Here's one method to reset the password without the install disc:
1. boot computer and hold the "apple" key and the "s" key.
2. wait for terminal show
3. release keys
4. type without the quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
5. press enter
6. type without the quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
7. press enter
8. type without the quotes: "reboot"
9. press enter
This will let you create a new admin account when you reboot your computer.
Also, without the discs, look at Mac OS X Tip - No Password, No Root, No CD? No Problem.

Here is a way to get around not knowing the admin password on Macs.
To reset your OS X password without an OS X CD you need to enter terminal and create a new admin account:
   1. Reboot
   2. Hold apple + s down after you hear the chime.
   3. When you get text prompt enter in these terminal commands to create a brand new admin account (hitting return after each line):
          * mount -uw /
          * rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
          * shutdown -h now
   4. After rebooting you should have a brand new admin account. When you login as the new admin you can simply delete the old one and you’re good to go again!

DVD SP burned disc won't play on DVD player

I recently compiled a FCP HD project into Standard Defintion 16:9 and imported it into DVD SP 4. I build, format and burned a DVD-R disc without any problems. However the disc won't play on any of the DVD players in my house (1 philips and 1 Pioneer). I checked all settings and can't find anything wrong! Remarkably, just before this I burned an older (SD 4:3) project on the same brand/type disc and that one worked flawless.
What am I missing, pleas help!

Double check to make sure you did not make an HD DVD (take a look to see what is on the disc, are the folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS or other name? It can happen where you think you made an SD but it is HD ) Also did you set a first play? Did you somehow make an NTSC (or PAL) and playing it on a machine that is not NTSC/PAL as applicable?
What brand media did you use? Some brands can be inconsistent...

It seems you are trying to access the service via Adobe Reader. Make sure you are signed in with your Adobe ID. Is Reader updated to the latest patch v 11.0.09?
It might be possible that a firewall or antivirus might be breaking the connectivity from Reader to the server.
Try accessing the service from the browser: https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf and check if that works for you.

Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed. Now disk utility only has the option to install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow. Anyone any ideas as my Mac won't load anything up but disc utility!

Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed on initial setup, USB cable popped out Now can only access disk utility as won't load to log in screen. The only has the option in disc utility is to re-install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow or loading another time machine back up but after an hour of it processing, that didn't resolve the issue either! The time machine back up is the latest back up of my Mac Book Pro which was using OS X Maverix. I'm guessing I'm going to have to take my Mac to the store but that would be a hassle so does anyone have any ideas?

Follow this guide using another Mac.
Insert your newly created Mavericks USB into you Mac, press the power button and then hold down 'option,' until it gives you an option to boot from the USB. You will then be able to erase the internal disk with Disk Utility and reinstall Mavericks straight after.
After that you should be able to use Migration Assistant to restore your applications and user data.

Burning Disc: Won't Burn Song List Sequence

I uploaded one of my Beatles albums. I created a Playlist for it and moved the songs there. I decided I wanted a different sequence of the songs, so I moved them around. Once satsified, I burned the disc... BUT, it did not record in the sequence I created. Instead, it recorded the songs in the original order of the album I uploaded.
What's going on here? How do I accomplish this? Thanks.

I'm running windows 7, HP Z400, with an internal burner. The error message you had looks like a Mac issue. A Google search revealed many similar errors - not all related to Encore. I'm sure there are plenty of Mac users out there burning discs OK. It would be useful to hear from them.

I put out a question as I am at my wits end and I get this as an answer : There are a variety of issues with Encore and burning. Most of us don't use Encore to burn. Build to an image or folder and burn with Toast.

Multiple burns on a disk using Disk Utility??

I found these notes about doing multiple burns on a disk (see below and it mentions changing the extention name to .img so that disk utility will give you the make disk appendable option.
I understand all that but my question is will this change the ability of the file to open in a new or old Mac (I have an old iMac G3 slot loading, PowerbookPC G4, and the new intel C2D 17"? My assumption is it will be fine in a new Mac but what about my older G3? I want to burn a disc and leave it appendable but am afraid by changing it to .img it won't open in the G3.

1. Collect the material you want to burn in a folder on your Desktop. Open Disk Utility.
2. Select Disk>New>Disk Image from the Folder menu. Use the dialog box to navigate to the folder you have created on your Desktop, and select "Image." Name your new image, select a destination for the new file, and click "Save." Your file name should end in .img.
3. Back in Disk Utility, click the toolbar "Burn" button, navigate to the disk image you just created, selected, and click "Burn." Another dialog box will appear. Click the blue triangle but in the upper right hand corner. The dialog box will expand, giving you an additional selection of options. Click "Leave disk appendable," then click the "Burn" button to initiate the burn.
4. When you want to add a subsequent burn to that disk, repeat the process described above, but in the final dialog box, you will then see an "Append" button instead of a "Burn" button. This process can be repeated until there is no more free space left on the disk to create appended sessions.
