You are using the demonstration certificates. They have expired. The
exception that you posted -- the date is too old.
You should not be using the demonstration certificates in production. Get
them from a commercial certificate authority such as VeriSign.

  • Permissions error during Cross-Forest Cert enrollment

    Hello,
When attempting to manually enroll for a Cert on a 2012 R2 server, I get the 'Certificate types are not available' msg with the 'You cannot request a cert at this time because no certificate types are available' msg.  When I click the 'Show all templates'
box, all the cert types are shown with a Status: Unavailable and the msg 'The permissions on the certificate template do not allow the current user to enroll for this type of cert'.
In this instance, the CA infrastructure is in the Resource forest with the server attempting a cert enroll in the Account forest.  Both Forests are 2008 R2 with a two-way Forest Trust.  We followed all steps in the 'Cross-forest Certificate Enrollment
with Windows Server 2008 R2' doc published by Microsoft with no issues.  The PKISync worked fine and we do see the Root and SubCA1 certs on the machine we are trying to manually enroll a cert on.  We implemented all the steps to ensure this machine
receives a cert the same way machines in the Resource forest receive certs.  We've validated the base Trust/Network infrastructure and all checks out.  However, the Resource root forest and domain is all one and on the same domain controllers whereas
the Account forest has the classical Forest root with two separate domain controllers and then a child domain with a number of domain controllers.  The child domain is where the server lives which we are trying to manually enroll a cert.
As a point of clarification, the server computer account was added to a Global Security group in the Account Forest.  This group was added to a Domain Local Security group in the Resource Forest which has the Read/Enroll/AutoEnroll permissions on the
    Cert Template.
Any suggestions on what could be causing the permissions errors?
    Thanks for your help! SdeDot

Certificate Template permissions can never be assigned to a Domain Local group, only to Universal or Global groups.
The correct strategy in a multi-forest scenario is the following:
    1) Create a universal group for the certificate template in the account forest (say
    Accountdomain\pki-authcert-u)
    2) Create a universal group for the certificate template in the resource forest (say Resourcedomain\pki-authcert-u)
    3) Create multiple global groups in each domain in the account forest (if three domains in the forest, create three global groups - one in each domain). Then add the user accounts to the global group in the same domain)
    4) Create multiple global groups in each domain in the resource forest (if three domains in the forest, create three global groups - one in each domain). Then add the user accounts to the global group in the same domain)
    5) On the certificate template, assign the two universal groups Read, Enroll, (and Autoenroll) permissions. That is both Accountdomain\pki-authcert-u and Resourcedomain\pki-authcert-u
    6) Run the pkisync.ps script again to replicate the new permissions
The reason you cannot use domain local groups is that the certificate template is stored in the Configuration naming context which is replicated to each domain in the forest (account or resource in your case).
A domain local group can only be used in the domain where the group exists (not good for PKI objects in the configuration NC.

  • I am trying to authorize my computer and I get an error message: The required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. Help?

I am trying to authorize my computer and I get an error message: The required directory was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or deauthorize this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. Help?

I used Terminal to change the permissions on the folder in question.  I followed the instructions in this article:
iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
In my case, the folder was there, so I needed the command to change permissions on the folder, not to create one.   I was hesitant to use Terminal b/c I know that if I made an error I could wipe out my hard drive or render my computer unusable.  So to be SURE I didn't make an error, I carefully copied the command from that page and *pasted* it into Terminal.  Also, before I could do anything in Terminal, I had to go change my admin password (it had been a blank password before and that's not acceptable for making changes in Terminal).  I was just super careful when entering my password or doing anything else while Terminal was open (making sure I didn't accidently hit the spacebar or another key, etc.)  And it fixed the problem right away.
What was confusing for me was that the iTunes error message said to change permissions in the FINDER, which is what I was trying to do.  It didn't mention Terminal.  What would really be helpful is if Apple included a link to a page like this in their error message.

  • Updating to iTunes 11.1 gave me a lot of disk permissions errors

I ran a Verify Disk Permissions before the installation of iTunes 11.1 and everything was clean, then I did one after installing iTunes 11.1 and I got a ton of errors. See below:
After running repair permissions several times, running from the boot drive or from an external booted, after uninstalling and doing a fresh install, nothing changed.
I also tried to repair the ACLs by booting from the Recovery partition and using resetpassword command.
I know it's not very important but I like to keep my system in perfect shape.
Come on Apple, after one single update, this is NOT SERIOUS!

Same here. But without knowing for sure why Apple did let this messages appear, in short, you should consider them as not important...at least for now...and here is why for the ones interested in some details about the error:
    Permissions differ on “Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/Dutch.lproj/AACEncoderConfig.nib”; should be drwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .
What this means in Unix language is that permissions check is expecting that "AACEncoderConfig.nib" to be a directory and it's not. You can tell because of "drwxr-xr-x" the d letter at the beginning of the string means "directory" and when compared with the actual value "-rwxr-xr-x", the absence of d means that it refers to a file.
Now you might ask why is the system expecting a directory?
Here is a link that describes why: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
OK...but what is this kind of files .nib?
This files are normally GUI files...and in the past...not so far away...it was based on a directory structure...but iTunes 11.1 is the first released Apple app that is using their new nib file spec. And this is somehow apparent...I mean the error messages we are all seeing when we run the permissions check suggest it.
Then I need to add, as a guess, it looks like this is due to the coming OSX upgrade...I saw another software giving the same permissions errors and even if I cannot say which app, it's one that is heavily tested right now and it will appear on OSX Lion/Mountain Lion and the new Mavericks.
    Hope this helps!

My MB Pro is no longer syncing my iPad in iTunes. It did in the beginning, however I had to change my MB Pro password. Now I get a permissions error message trying to sync: "error storing your authorization information on this computer." Can you help?

First I would just try deleting the SCInfo folder, restart your computer, open itunes and see if you are still getting the error, at that point if you are it is a permissions error with the computer specificaly and not in itunes.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
that is for deleting the scinfo folder. scroll to the bottom of the article and the steps are there

  • Read Only Permissions Error

    Hi Guys
I have a major problem with file saving permissions
    Current setup:
    - 5 imac (10.6)
    - 1 mac book pro (10.6)
    - mac xserver
    - Direct attached Raid Array
    Issue:
When user "A" creates new files and folders to the shared drive on the raid array it automatically defaults to read only for all other users, and any time they try to add/delete/create files or folders in the fold user "A" created they get a permissions error. Therefor everybody else cannot edit the files
E.g. user A and user B quite often work on documents together and when user A stores it in the folder user A created then user B can only read it
has anybody come across this error before?
also i have tried changing permissions in get info as it defaults to read only soon as i change it to read and write and close the get info box it reverts back to read only ( the permissions group in called everybody)
Any help would be much appreciated

You can try propagating the permissions on the root of the share, new files should inherit permissions from the parent folder, if that doesn't help, maybe try something with the umask

Not sure how we can correct his permissions problem, and whether authorising or deautorizing makes any difference, with more and more errors keep popping up, this got to be such after an update of the OS, can remember which!?
    HELP!!!

    follow this:
    Launch iTunes
select iTunes Store from the menu on the left side.
sign in via the link on the top right area if you haven't done so already
click the link where you Apple ID email appears, enter your Apple ID password, click View Account, this will take you to a page displaying detailed information about your Apple ID account.
The last item under Apple ID summary should be Computer Authorisations, click Deauthorize All
now reauthorize any computers as needed when the system prompts you.
    good luck.

    Thanks for your questions.
1 Are these local or online documents?
Answer: Both they are IRS forms.  I haven't tried other forms  yet.
    2. If online, in what browser?
Chrome does allow the fill-in with no errors.  IE doe not even  open the
form. The error message comes up when I have saved what I did and  reopen for
    additional editing.
    3. What is the exact message you are getting?
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft  shared\ink\TabTip.exe
Windows cannot access the specified device, path,  or file. You may not
have the appropriate permissions to access the  item.
Once I close the message I can enter data into the field.  When I click the
next field or scroll the message returns.  I checked  the properties and I
am allowed to fill in form.
Again thanks for your response.  I did discover that  I could fill in form

info prepared so I can do it in one session.
