Chain of archive jobs ie write, delete & store

Hi All,
We are doing archiving for technical objects. Currently we have scheduled the archiving write job periodically but after that, manually executing the delete job & store job.  We are not using standard functionality of chaining these jobs because there are high data & write job is creating the archive file in a high quantity & chaiing the deletion & store job may create the issue of high quantity of background job running simultaneously at a time.
Now, Is there any process by which i can limit the simultaneously running these jobs to a number ie max 5 or 10. I have searched for program RSARCHD but i am not able to understand how to schedule this program  as i want to schedule this for periodically after write job. and also let me know if it can be used for store job also.
Thanks in advance.
Ankit

Hi Ankit,
I am not aware of a technique for limiting the number of simultaneous jobs, but you have a way (if you have chosen to start the delete jobs automatically) to start the delete jobs only after the write job is complete (else normally delete job starts once a archive file reaches its max size / no of objects and a new archive file is created).
To activate this, go to transaction AOBJ, double click on the object (i assume you are trying to archive IDOC) and there is a check box 'Do Not Start Before End of Write Phase', chck that. You can test this on QA system to see if it gves satisfactory results before trying on production.
hope this helps,
Naveen

  • Archived files missed after deletion job

    Hi All,
We are generally doing the techinical archiving for some objects in ECC 6. Here for one object, write job & delete job is finished. but any how, archived file is missed before store job. There was some hardware failure.
Now, we have get them restored from backup but i am not able to access the restored files from tcode SARA to store them in our storage server. It is still showing the files as failed in Store job archive file selection screen.
I need to store those files in our storage server but archive file is not accessible from file system.
Now, please let me know, what should i do in this case.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I do a little bit of Archiving using SARA, but not any expert
We had such situations when the file was deleted from OS level while Archiving run was in progress at SARA.
What we do in such situation is to disable the existing Run in "SARA" -> Put in Archiving Object name --> click Management, click on the failed Run and "Mark it for deletion".
Start a new run for the same Archiving object, Keep the variant same ( I mean keep the selection dates same as earlier run) and start all over again with Write, delete, store etc.
I dont know how much it helps
Might be different from the scenario you might have on hand.

  • Archiving job successful but no messages archived

    Hi guys,
what's wrong? When I check processing statistics, nothing has changed.
    Thank you,
    Olian
BTW:  how to delete these archived messages? I don't want to delete what hasn't been archived, so I just want to be sure. Thanks.

    Hi
Is there a way how to archive messages sent before the job has been scheduled?
    1) --> You have to update all SXMSPMAST records. Field: ITFACTION = ARCH
    Write ABAP-Report!
Please do this just for one record! Then run the archive job an see if the message was archived.
    (First do in your test-system!)
If this works, you can do this with all records!
What do you advise me, how should I schedule delete job so I will not delete any unarchived messages?
    2) --> If you sucessfull archived all messages, you can run your deletion job
(note: sync. messages can not be archived)
is it possible to run archive job every week & delete only once a month? Won't be archived messages archoved twice?
    3) --> No, because after you run the archive job, the messages get ITFACTION = DEL
    Please test first!

  • Archiving using Process Chain, writes to archive but doesn't delete data

I have created an Archiving Process for a cube, and set it up to automatically start the "delete". I then created a process chain to execute the Archiving Process.
When I execute the process chain, here's what I notice in the joblogs:
    1) Archiving job runs, writing the selected data to archive file
    2) A separate deletion job is started, but the deletion job runs in "test" mode (which seems kind of like simulation mode) and identifies the records it would delete but it never actually deletes the data from the cube.
    3) In SARA (Archive Administration), this run shows up as an "Incomplete Archiving Session", showing that archiving step was complete but deletion hasn't occured.
I am able to delete the data by running the "Delete" manually in SARA and then the "Archiving Session" goes to "completed" status. When I run it manually from SARA, the job log shows that it is running in "production mode" and not "test mode".
My question is...  Is there a way to start the deletion in "production mode" and not "test mode" when I run the process chain?
Or is this a bug, that I should report to OSS?
    Thanks much.

    Hello,
You can set the Production Mode in Customizing
Have you tried with this function module ARCHIVE_OPEN_FOR_DELETE

  • Delete and Archiving jobs.

    Hi,
I have a question for the Archiving and delete jobs.
    Archiving messages:
    SAP_BC_XMB_ARCHIVE<client>
This job in turn schedules jobs 1 Write job.
    ARV_BC_XMB_WRP20070917012553
and some delete jobs based on the no of archived messages.
    ARV_BC_XMB_DEL20070917023226.
Deletion of messages and message table:
    SAP_BC_XMB_DELETE_<client>
Please let me know what messages this job deletes.
In Simple , I want to understand the difference between these two jobs.
    RSXMB_DELETE_MESSAGES
    RSXMB_DELETE_ARCHIVED_MESSAGES
    Thanks,
    Tanuj

    Hi,
Thnaks for the information. It not only deletes from the SXMSPMAST , it also deletes from SXMSCLUR table. I can observe the there is  a exaxt decrease in number of these records which tallys with the output of the report "xxx no of messages deleted".
But when i see in SXMB_MONI i can see all the messages. So what is it deleting exactly ....
The messages disappear in SXMB_MONI only when the archive/delete job runs in server.
    Thanks,
    Tanuj

  • Archive jobs / Delete job

I have some questions regarding Archiving / Deleting..
    1) What are the implication of not setting 'DELETION' category parameters in 'Specific configuration'.
    2) How do I delete the messages that are archived? Will 'Delete job' handle this also?
    3) Also I had archived some messages using Archiving job.. When try to lookup this message using 'Archived XML Messages (Search using Archive), I get a list of Archived messages. When I click on any of this messages, I get "Could not find message in archive" message.

    hi,
    - did you activate SAP_BC_XMB info structure?
    - did you do all the configuration?

  • Schedule archiving jobs

    Hi,
We are trying to schedule periodically the archiving jobs for several objects.
To be more specific, we begin with MM_EKKO archiving object and we would like to chain the 3 steps : preprocessor the write, then delete.
Chaining delete after write is easy : In "technical Setting", we just have to tickle "start automatically" in the "delete jobs" parameters.
But how to chain automatically write step after preprocessor ?
Obviously, I tried usual options in SM36 and used "after job" parameter. But what job can I enter as the job name  for precprocessor is automatically generated by SAP and changed at every new job (the date and time are included in the name, e.g :  ARV_MM_EKKO_SUB20110406163238) ?
Do I need to use an exernal third party scheduler to do this ?

    Serge,
I have been researching on your query lately and have put accross this question to some Archiving Experts at my end. Hopefully, will come up with a full-proof solution.
But in the meantime, if you have a sandbox or if you can do a research, please do the following:
    1. In SARA, under the TECHNICAL SETTINGS tab go to the VERIFY ARCHIVE FILES box.
    2. There just click on the following, Before Deleting, Before Reading and Before Reloading.
    3. I think this BEFORE READING box could be a solution.
    4. And for deletion check the START AUTOMATICALLY option.
Please try this and let us know. If solved, okay and if not then I will reply back after conveying from the experts.

  • Performance of Archive Jobs Since Switching Partitions

    Hi,
Since MIMIX switching from one partition to another  , the run time for archive write jobs on EC_PCA_ITM archiving object has increased from 9 minutes to several hours and for delete jobs from less than an hour to up to 8 hours. This is for GLPCA file which has 7 indexes which I believe are maintained across the mirror by the journal delete entry to the target.
The partitions have the same amount of resource memory/CPU/disk following a switch. We have stopped SAP and deleted SQL packs as part of switch. The only action I performed was to switch off journaling on what was the target system and is now the primary system on file GLPCA to try to speed up the MIMIX apply backlog but I don't see this caused the problem ; 200million records were deleted during this time.  I have not performed any re-orgs on this file as yet  ( it will take 2 weeks and I was leaving it until all data deleted) but this should not be the difference ?
Any advice which may correct my understanding  or action to identify the problem would be appreciated.
    Regards
    David

    Hi David,
I am thinking from Archiving functionality that is causing this performance when MIMIX switching from one partition to another.
During writing of archive file by write program, it will call for functional module ARCHIVE_PUT_RECORD & ARCHIVE_SAVE_OBJECT, in this area I think system is taking long time because of switiching partition. you can debug.
Where are Delete program will first read archive file sequentially and then delete data from database... here also i feel that due to switching it might be taking more time.
Performance issue is only with EC_PCA_ITM or other archiving objects also?
    -Thanks,
    Ajay

  • XI Archiving: Restarting a terminated archived job.

    Hi All,
Due to some constraints, our PI server (devt) has only 9.5 GB of disk space for the archive directory. We have 300,000 messages that is flagged for archiving and it seems that the archiving job will terminate with a dataset_write_error which we assume is caused because there is not enough disk space in the archive folders.
After moving the previous archive files out of the directory to reclaim the disk space, we restarted the archive job. Will restarting the archive job allow the archive job to pick up from where it was terminated or will it "restart" from beginning?
    Anyone experienced something similar before?

    Dear Lugman,
the behaviour of the new archiving job depends on the configuration of archiving object BC_XMB (transaction AOBJ). If the option "Do Not Before End of Write Phase" is set (default), then the next archiving job will start from the very beginning. In this case all archive file written by the previous job can be deleted. If the option is de-selected the new archiving job will start with the last archiving file. All files that were written sucessfully before the error ocurred are safe.
In general you might also want to increase the retention period temporarily. This way you reduce the number of messages to be archived in one single blow and you have better control on the data volume that is written to file.

  • How to find process chain using background job in sm37

How to find process chain using background job in sm37

Better is to select the job.
Select (Define) Step (s) or F6.
Select the line and Menu Goto>Variant.
The variant contains the name of the CHAIN and its VARIANT.
    Success
We faced an old job and via job monitoring we were informed about a cancelled job every 'interval'.
We noticed that the related chain was deleted but still the job was scheduled each interval again and was cancelled because an event was missing
We could not find the scheduled job via SM37.
Via view V_OP, view over tbtco abd tbtcp, we find the related entry.
We delete these entries via function BP_JOB_DELETE....

  • Scheduling of Archive jobs

    Hi,
i really need to apologize here, but i did not found an appropriate forum to ask this, neither a forum for ADK archiving development kit nor a forum about XBP (intercepted jobs). If there is a froum for asking questions like this you can slap me for that
The archiving object is configured to schedule the ARVSTO jobs automatically which we want to keep to spread the load over a certain time and not to have a bunch of archiving jobs always running at a specific time.
In this system we do not have a connection to a central job scheduling tool due to license costs.
The problem is that sometimes ARVSTO jobs are scheduled exactly at the time where our IXOS serving is going down for 15 minutes for maintanence.
I'm now looking for ANY possibility to avoid that ARVSTO jobs are scheduled between 4 and 5 o'clock. I hat a look at OSS notes 458670 and 604496, with those notes i can avoid that the jobs are starting automatically but i need an external job scheduler or i need to start them manually. I dont have a job scheduler and i dont want to do this manually.
I had a look at report RSARCHD to do a modifaction but as far as i can see this one is only scheduling the ARVDEL jobs.
So does anyone have an idea to solve this? Even if it is a modification, or en enhancement, a BADI or en exit, i dont care.
    Thanks in advance.

Create one procedure and write all your logic which you want to schedure.
Please execute the below block to set the job.
Please change ### with Your PROCEDURE NAME WITH PARAMETER.
'SYSDATE+1/1440' = Indicate that your job execute every minute..

  • Dump during archive job runs -  TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED (snote 1017000)

    Hi All,
I'm currently having problems with the deletion/archiving process on one of my XI boxes. I has been
configure to use the Switch Procedure and, the error happens during the TABLE_SWITCH procedure.
Due to this error, I have 1 dump per day and the other jobs related with this task are failing.
        The dump says:
               TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED
and I have found note 1017000 for this issue and sucesfully applied.
According to the note, next step should be:
"To stop the archiving process, start the deletion process for the failed
archiving runs manually directly from the archive administration."
by I'm not able to do that. I go to XMS_SATA and with object name BC_XMB try to run the "Delete" action
but can not continue as there is no archive file to select.
        Anyone with the same issue?
        Thanks in advance?

    Hi Prateek,
Thanks for your help but I don see how is this related to XI. I read about IS-OIL and IS-MINE. I already found a note that helps with this issue but I'm stuck with one of the steps and can cancel the copy process.

  • Problem while Scheduling Archive Jobs from SXMB_ADM

    Dear all,
I am using this blog to delete and archive messages.
    /people/deepak.shah/blog/2010/04/22/archiving-deletion-of-messages-in-pi--part-2
I have configured Retention periods from SXMB_ADM and there by scheduled Archive Jobs through SXMB_ADM itself.
Now when i check in SM37, after Archive jobs scheduled , i am not able to see 2 jobs as described in this Blog.
i am able to see only one Job with name "SAP_BC_XMB_ARCHIVE200"
Please assist me what might be the problem
    Regards

    Hi Ganesh,
Thank you for replying. Once this SAP_BC_XMB_ARCHIVE200 is finished, one more job has been generated
ARV_BC_XMB_WRP20100602112115. But this is not for deletion . it is doing archiving
When i check the log, SAP_BC_XMB_ARCHIVE200 contains the program as RSXMB_ARCHIVE_PLAN
and ARV_BC_XMB_WRP20100602112115 job contains the program as RSXMB_ARCHIVE_MESSAGES
There is no job generated for deletion of Archived ones.
    >>Deletion job starts automatically if in archiving setting u have selected START AUTOMATICALLY option for deletion .
Could you please let me know where this should be done while doing Archiving jobs??
