Changing a key press??

Hi
I know its possible to pick up what key a user had pressed what I want to do is change that key.
tabular form which when the user uses the tab button it shifts to the next textbox.
Instead I want them to be able to press the right arrow button and it would then move to the next textbox (similar sort of function as navigating around cells in excel) or press enter and it shifts to next textbox or left arrow to move the the previous textbox.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I think this is the code that will add arrow key navigation to tabular forms.
  window.onload=function () {
    var text=document.getElementsByTagName('input');
    for (var j=0;j<text.length;j++) {
      var ip=text[j];
      if (ip.type=="text") {
        ip.onkeyup=function (e) {
          if (window.event) {
            var key = window.event.keyCode;
          } else {
            var key = e.keyCode;
          var td=html_CascadeUpTill(this,'TD');
          var tr=html_CascadeUpTill(this,'TR');
          var rowno=tr.lastChild.getElementsByTagName('input')[1].value;
          var colno=td.cellIndex + 1;
          if (key == 40 || key == 38) {
            var l_next_row=key==40?tr.nextSibling:tr.previousSibling;
            var l_next_row_column=l_next_row.getElementsByTagName('td')[colno - 1];
            l_next_row_column.getElementsByTagName('input')[0].focus();
            if (key == 37) {
            var l_next_row_column=tr.getElementsByTagName('td')[colno - 2];
            l_next_row_column.getElementsByTagName('input')[0].focus();
            if (key == 39) {
            var l_next_row_column=tr.getElementsByTagName('td')[colno];
            l_next_row_column.getElementsByTagName('input')[0].focus();
  } ;You might need to be more selective if you have other text input fields on your page.

  • Change  the Key pressed

    I have to convert a Q key to a O in an Input Text Field when the user is typing. (I have a seven segments device that will get the string later)
    Thanks in advance

    We are developing a low cost Hardware device that controles a door opening and it has a 5 X 7 segment
    display (low cost).

    With that display some Characters are not allowed and we are developing a Personal Computer
    Java aplication in order to display the filtered message and send it to the device via RS232.
    It doesn?t run:
    private void jTMensajeKeyPressed(java.awt.event.KeyEvent evt) {
    char MiChar = evt.getKeyChar();
    if (IsValid(MiChar)){
    else {
    evt.setKeyCode(0);
    This function is called from a piece of code like:
    jTMensaje.addKeyListener(new java.awt.event.KeyAdapter() {
    public void keyPressed(java.awt.event.KeyEvent evt) {
    jTMensajeKeyPressed(evt);
    that is fixed by FORTE

  • How to change a h:outputText value in the current form on key pressed event

    Hello Suners,
    Greetings! I'm developing my first JSF web application and i'm trying to figure a way out to change outputText value when key pressed on another inputText so that when the user is typing his name for example he can see the letters showing respectively in the outputText.
    I managed to do it onchange but the user must focus out of the inputText to see his name in the outputText which is not right and the form must submit onchange event which is annoying.
    <h:inputText value="#{login.username}" title="name" id="name" required="true" onchange="this.form.submit()" >
                                <f:validateLength maximum="10" minimum="1"/>
                                <f:validator validatorId="myValidator"/>
                                <f:valueChangeListener type="classes.MyListener"/>
    </h:inputText>Is there any listener i can associate with the "onkeypress" attribute? Can anyone help me to do that with JSF?
    King Regards,

    hi, with JSF 2 you got the ajax tag, just tried it and it works fine :)
    <h:inputText id="myinput" value="#{back.name}">
        <f:ajax execute="@this" event="keyup" render="outtext"/>
    </h:inputText>
    <h:outputText id="outtext" value="#{back.name}"/>or before JSF 2
    <h:outputScript name="jsf.js" library="javax.faces" target="head"/>
    <h:inputText id="myinput" value="#{back.name}" onkeyup="jsf.ajax.request(this, event, {render: 'outtext'}); return false;"/>
    <h:outputText id="outtext" value="#{back.name}"/>The name property is a simple String in the bean.
    Hope this helps

  • Changing images based on keys pressed

    Ok, I'm trying to make my character face a different direction when a key is pressed (when left is pressed, he faces left, when right is pressed, he is facing right). Right now I am going to load all the images into an array and then tell it which one to paint based on the key pressed. Anything faster or better?
    Thanks!
    -Brian

    Hmmm, javax. The javax packages usually accompany
    pain and torture... eerrrr, swing. I detest swing. I
    will use this for now, but do you know of any other
    ways to do this? Or is this not related to swing?The javax package contains alot more than Swing.
    Saying all javax packages are painful to use, simply because you don't like swing is silly.
    As for answering your question. Try re-reading the post by KarateMarc.
    You can either use MediaTracker (horrible, but it will let you know when the image is loaded) or ImageIO to properly load your images.

    Yikes, you've got that bit of code backward, there partner.
    You use Integer.parseInt to parse a String into an int, not the other way around.
    If you want to change an int to a String, do
    String s = String.valueOf(i)or you can use the various formatters out there.

  • How to get the actual key pressed in a UITextField

    Hi all , now i develop a program on iphone SDK 3.0 GM.
    I have an UITextField (created programmatically) and I have implemented the delegate as well as the UITextFieldTextDidChangeNotification so that I can react to changes in the text values.
    However, I specifically want to know when the user presses the backspace key in the UITextField when there is currently no text in the field. I can't find where I can get a specific notification of the actual key pressed, as opposed to the resulting state of the text. I'm sure there is a way to do this...help?

    I can imagine why you want to do it. I had the same problem myself and managed to circumvent it in a slightly painful way. What I did was to subclass UITextField to create a text field that always had text in it, even when it "seemed" empty. In fact the first character of the text is a space character, and then what follows is the actual text. In this way, your delegate will always get called about a backspace (when it's an attempt to delete the leading space character, obviously you should return NO in the textField: shouldChangeCharactersInRange: replacementString: method). I won't get into the details of exactly how to set everything up, like I said it is kind of elaborate and I wouldn't really recommend it unless you are desperate to have that kind of functionality.

  • Using InputMap and ActionMap to detect any key pressed...plz help

    Hi,
    I am quite new to Java. I have a tiny problem. I wanna put an actionlistener into a JTextField, so it printout something whenever a key is pressed (when the textField is selected).
    I can only get it to print if I assign a specific key to pressed...example below (works):
    JTextField searchBox = new JTextField();
    InputMap imap = searchBox.getInputMap();
    ActionMap amap = searchBox.getActionMap();
    imap.put(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_A, 0), "pressed");
    amap.put("pressed", new AbstractAction() {
              public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                   System.out.println("TYPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE");
    HOWEVER, when i change keystroke to any key pressed, it doesn't work. Example below(doesn't work):
    JTextField searchBox = new JTextField();
    InputMap imap = searchBox.getInputMap();
    ActionMap amap = searchBox.getActionMap();
    imap.put(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.KEY_PRESSED, 0), "pressed");
    amap.put("pressed", new AbstractAction() {
              public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                   System.out.println("TYPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE");
    Somebody plz helps me. I am really confused how to use KeyEvent.KEY_PRESSED. I thought it would work the same way as KeyEvent.VK_A...if i can't use KEY_PRESSED for that purpose, what KeyEvent do I use?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    Sounds like you want a KeyListener.
    textField.addKeyListener(new KeyListener() {
        public void keyTyped(KeyEvent e) {
            System.out.println("Key typed.");
        public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) {
            System.out.println("Key pressed.");
        public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e) {
            System.out.println("Key released.");
    });See the API documentation for more information.

    It is possible to perform key pressing more than a key in same time? Example, perform 'q' & 'w' keys pressing at the same time.With r.keyPress method, it only can perform single key pressed at a time. Do you have any idea how to perform multiple key pressed at a time?The javadoc for Robot.keyPress suggests ( "+The key should be released using the keyRelease method+" ) that the key remains "pressed" until you keyRelease(...) it. So, press the keys sequentially:
    theRobot.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_Q);
    theRobot.keyPress(KeyEvent.VK_W);
    // At this stage both Q and W are pressed "in same time"
    ... // do stuff
    theRobot.keyRelease(KeyEvent.VK_W);
    // At this stage, only Q is pressedI suspect that in real life, unless you're a very gifted musician, you don't really press keys "at the same time" (under the time resolution of a keyboard, which I imagine is around a few milliseconds).

  • Catching Alt Key Press with the Key Down Filter Event

    I am writing an application that requires specific key combinations using ctrl, shift, and alt in addition to a function key (F1, F2, F3, etc).  The application works great except for when I try to catch an alt key press.  The alt key press does not seem to fire an event eventhough it is an option in the PlatMods cluster as well as the VKey enum.  When I press the alt key when my application is running the cursor changes to a normal mouse pointer from the usual finger pointer and prevents any other key presses from going through (in addition to not firing an event itself).
    I have tried completely removing the run-time menu, which doesn't seem to help.  I currently discard all keys after I handle them in my event structure.
    I really hope that the only solution isn't using a Windows DLL.  Any suggestions or ideas at all would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ames

     Hi Ames
    As Kileen has said Khalid has already given you a good solution to detect the ALT key.
    I have another approach that might let you stick to your event-driven approach. I suggest that you have another loop in your app that polls the keyboard using the Input Device utility vi's. When this poll loop sees an ALT + KEY combo it raises a dynamic user event and will be processed in your event structure. This means you can keep your key down filter event to process the CTRL + KEY and SHIFT + KEY events.
    Example attached in 7.1
    cheers
    David

  • "Enter Passcode" screen not showing the dots for key press

    I've a passcode that is 6 characters long. When I slide to unlock my phone , the "Enter Passcode" screen comes up as normal, but sometimes when I try to enter my passcode in the white box, though the key press turns blue under my finger tips as normal but nothing (no black dots) is entered into the white box. Whenever this happens I'm not able to unlock my phone with the passcode and I've to power off and power on the phone to detect the passcode.
    Not sure anyone else having the same problem as mine. If anyone encountered the same problem and know how to fix it, please help me.
    Thanks!

    I have two iPhone 4S both with iOs7 and simple passcode. One had the dots, the other didn't. I went through changing settings on the one without dots to match the settings to the one with dots one at a time until they came on.
    For me the exact change was turning on the Auto Brightness setting.
    Settings > Wallpapers and Brightness > Auto-Brightness
    Perhaps it's the same bug for complex passcodes? Worth a try.

  • Wish you could tap the Shift key to set next key press in caps on iMac

    I really wish in Mac OS that you could 'tap' the Shift key to set up the next key press in capitals.  In Lion, on my iMac desktop, the present arrangement requires you to hold down the Shift key while hitting the letter you want to capitalise, as has been the case since time began.  On my lovely iPad2, you just tap the shift key once and the next keypress is in caps - SIMPLE and efficient.  I have been yearning for this simple change to the OS since way before the iPad came along, but now you can use it in iOS5 and NOT in Lion, it's really frustrating.  i find i am now failing time after time to select caps in Lion...

  • Key press detection when application is running in the background

    Is it possible to detect any key presses when the application is in the background?

    The key-related, pointer-related, and paint() methods will only be called while the Canvas is actually visible on the output device. These methods will therefore only be called on this Canvas object only after a call to showNotify() and before a call to hideNotify(). After hideNotify() has been called, none of the key, pointer, and paint methods will be called until after a subsequent call to showNotify() has returned. A call to a run() method resulting from callSerially() may occur irrespective of calls to showNotify() and hideNotify().
    The showNotify() method is called prior to the Canvas actually being made visible on the display, and the hideNotify() method is called after the Canvas has been removed from the display. The visibility state of a Canvas (or any other Displayable object) may be queried through the use of the Displayable.isShown() method. The change in visibility state of a Canvas may be caused by the application management software moving MIDlets between foreground and background states, or by the system obscuring the Canvas with system screens. Thus, the calls to showNotify() and hideNotify() are not under the control of the MIDlet and may occur fairly frequently. Application developers are encouraged to perform expensive setup and teardown tasks outside the showNotify() and hideNotify() methods in order to make them as lightweight as possible.
    The above answer you might have found in the JAVADOC, if you would have gone through the description of the Canvas class.
    Don't forget your DUKES as I had to search the JAVADOC for giving you the exact answer, which you should have done that yourself only!!!

  • Capturing Key press when the focus is not on VI. (event is not working).

    I have a VI, and found similar in Forums. I need to catch key down event, when the focus is not on VI.
    I attached the VI found in forum. Try to click on other window, for example on block diagram of VI, when VI is running and check if it works. The answer is no, it doesn't work. When you press any key, the led button must change it's state, but it does only when the focus is on VI's front panel. The question is how to control key press, when VI is minimized or inactive. Is it possible to catch key down or any similar event, when the focus is on any other application, not on VI?
