Changing phone number... Do my numbers stay on the phone?

I'm gonna be changing my number soon and AT&T said they would be sending me a new sim card. My question is... Are my numbers gonna stay on the phone? Now that i think about it.. Will I lose all the pics and crap on my phone? That would suck.

None of the iPhone's data is stored on the SIM card.
The data transferred from your computer to your iPhone remains on your computer - contact information, calendar events and bookmarks is a bidirectional sync process with the supported applications on your computer. Any data on the iPhone not included with the iTunes sync process is stored in your iPhone's backup, which is created and maintained by iTunes. The backup is updated if needed when syncing your iPhone - this is the first step before any data is synced or transferred.

  • Why is changing my number such a problem?

All I want is a number change. I have moved to a new city with a different area code, and all I want, which is very basic, is to have anyone that dials the old number to be forwarded to the new number or a message stating the new number. I am a telecom engineer and know there is no technical limitation to prevent this, but have gotten nothing but roadblocks on making it happen. I was told by a chat rep that they could for up to 3 months, but calling customer service they said it couldn't be done. Getting the run around here. I know for a fact that verizon landline service provides an announcement with the new number. Why can't they do it with cell? Just make the number virtual and an announcement voicemail that states the new number!!!!!
Option 1. Give me a new number and forward the old for 1 month
Option 2. Give me a new number and let me set up a vmail box, announcement only, point caller to the new number.
Option 3. Let me port to Google Voice to forward without terminating my contract, even though I want to keep your service, and just want a new local number!
This is just crazy!!!! Such simple things that they won't let me do.

Why is it you want verizon to jump through hoops? The number you have will ring no matter where you are so a new number is not really necessary. You are not charged long distance and with today's phone service I doubt anyone else is either.
You just change your number if you desire, in the old land line days that phone forwarding message was useful but like everything today it has been discontinued its progress I guess.
Just remember your number was not transferred even in cases you moved across the street, today the number follows you all over the world. Progress?
Changing a number is also risky in that the last person who had it could of been doing something to break the law, or had bill collectors calling all night and day, or other annoyances. Keep the number you have and stay happy. That is my advice.
    Good Luck

Of course not.  Number blocking must be done by your wireless provider.

  • Changed phone number, now phone won't work properly

After weeks of calls for the former phone owner the last @4AM, I initiated a number change. As soon as I hung up, the phone began to work differently. Bad signal, voice calls say dialing, but never go through. IE browsing doesn't work. A tech yesterday had me switch from Global mode to CDMA, which made things work better, but not like the phone used to be. My wife bought the same phone same time and hers still has the right number of bars and 3G on. Mine now goes to 1X or 3G one bar. It is a little disconcerting to think something as simple as a number change could make a nice phone all but a paperweight...obviously if the phone was great before, then not working right afterwards, there is an issue. Tech went through all the settings on the phone. *228 etc. Suggestion was to leave in CDMA mode...yet again, phone didn't need this before and it didn't restore signal and speed that was present proof to number change.
    Help please!

While I unfortunately have no idea how to fix it, I just wanted to let you know I feel your pain. I am in college, and last year I was living in the same apartment complex I lived in the year before, just a different apartment. I had the exact same phone both years, the original Droid. Yet for some reason, last year there was a 2 block radius around my apartment where I had absolutely no service whatsoever. I had to buy a network extender, and this only worked half the time. I went through EIGHT Droids, before they finally gave me a Droid 2. This Droid 2 worked with the network extender, but it made no sense to me why this was even an issue. My roommate had the HTC Incredible with Verizon, and his phone worked just fine. I went through so many tech support guys at Verizon, made it to level 3 numerous times, and they never could figure out why in the world this was happening. Go figure. They suggested changing phone numbers, but I did not do this, because I didn't want to and it made no sense why this would fix the issue. Heck, they only said it might fix the problem anyway.
Now I have the HTC Trophy and I am living in a different apartment complex. It works fine here and I ventured over that way just to test it out and it worked fine there. Makes absolutely no sense. But yeah, I feel your pain and I hope you solve your issue.

  • Changing phone number because of cold callers

Does anyone know how much it costs to get your phone number changed?
Even though i'm registered with the tps i'm getting harrassed by cold callers phoning every single day. Most of the calls are from india but some are from the UK.
They are driving me up the wall and I need to get my number changed.

If you would like to try Live Chat they should be able to help you.
I think it cost about £30, but you may end up with a number that gets even more calls, as they are all recycled numbers.
You may wish to consider some of the options described on my website below, under the phone problems menu.

  • How do I change phone numbers associated with an iPad?

How do I change phone number associated with my iPad?

Obviously you must have an iPhone in order to associate the phone number with the FaceTime and Messages apps on your iPad. You haven't clearly stated what you want to do other than associate a phone number, so I assume these are the two apps that you want to associate the phone number with.
If you are unable to add the phone number in the settings in either or both of these apps, you may have to sign out of both apps on the Phone and the iPad - and then sign in again on both devices in order to use the phone number for FaceTime and Messages on the iPad.

How do you change the phone number on an ipad mini in the imessage settings?

The Phone number of a Cellular iPad is assigned by the carrier the iPad is connected to.  Usually changing the sim card will change this number.

  • Change starting number for Numbered List.

I am breaking up a list into 4 columns and I want them numbered.  When you use the Numbered List it automatically starts at 1.  I want it to start with the number I left off with in the text box next to it.  How do you change the starting number for a Numbered List?

Ok, this is how you do it (just figured it out myself!)
If you click in the text box and do command A to select all, it will select all of the text BUT not the numbers. If you want to change the size of the numbers, you have to click on the number in the text box (the entire line will highlight) and use command-+ and command-minus to increase/decrease the size (or choose from the character palette. This WILL change the size of everything in the text box, but then you can go back to a simple command-a to change the text to the size you want.

  • My phone has changed from the numbered keypad to the large lettered keyboard.  When I enter my 6 digit passcode it tells me I'm wrong.  I've tried about 6 times and don't want to get locked out.  It just started today??? Please help.

Mostly because you are not using any capital letters or paragraph returns and your post is difficult to read.

  • FaceTime (after changing phone number)

    Hi there,
I bought an iPhone 4 on launch day, used FaceTime and worked fine. However I have since changed my number with my mobile network, now people cannot FaceTime me.
If I FaceTime them though it shows up with my old number and if they then try to FaceTime my old number it works! Very confusing I know.
Is there a way I can get this so it knows to FaceTime my new number?
    Thanks

I think I have found the answer for this problem it worked for me I copied this from another website so thanks to him!!
Sometimes you might have the wrong number showing under the field "My number" and the field is not editable.
This might be either because you have ported your older number from a different network (via PUK code) to a new one or that you have changed sim
Do the following to correct this:
    1) Switch of Wi-FI and make sure you get 3G receptiion
    2) Switch off Facetime and for few seconds
    3) Go to phone under settings and you should have the correct number
    4) Switch facetime back on by entering your iTunes credentials
Hope this helped some of you

I just changed my number on line but my previous number is still showing on my phone and is active.  What do I need to do?

        Alanf356,
You've reached the right place for help! Once the mobile number is changed, you must activate the new number on your phone. Depending on the model phone you have, you may have to simply reboot your device. If a 3G phone, you may dial *228 (send) and select option number one to activate.
Once completed dial #832 (send) to place a test call and ensure that new number is activated. Let us know if this helps.
