Closed Captioning and Speech Analysis

Is it possible to use the Speech Analysis tool in a clip's metadata field for closed captioning?

This might be helpful?

  • Closed Caption and FCP 5.1.1

Has anyone had success in capturing footage with closed captioning and then making dubs with the closed captioning attached in FCP 5.1?
I ask because it seems that 5.1 is not recording the line 21 info. I've been able to play back a show that I captured from Beta SP before I upgraded and the CC was displayed. Now when I capture the same footage using FCP 5.1 and the same settings as before, the CC info does not show during play back.
    Thanks for any help.

This would be bad. There's no reason that the data shouldn't pass, it's just scan line content, but that doesn't mean there's some new ADA or international digital rights weirdness in 5.1, 5.1.1 or QT7.1+ that's stripping it off.
First we've seen of this complaint so we'd depend on you to do more extensive and carefully designed testing.

  • Pausing and restarting closed caption and audio

Can anyone help me with this issue - I have 2 sets of closed captions on one slide with audio that spans the both closed captions. I pause the audio at the end of closed caption one using a click box, when I restart it by clicking on the click box the audio plays the remaining content but the closed caption box will not display the 2nd lot of text????
    Looking for help - please...
    Carl.

I found a workarround (using the fact that Video Closed Caption is working corect):
Export the MP3 (from the library)
Remove slide audio (Audio > remove > Slide)
Convert MP3 to FLV with Adobe Media Encoder or a similar tool. Make the dimensions as small as possible
Insert Slide Video (Insert > Slide Video …)
Add the text for the Closed Captions to the video (Video > Edit Video Timing … > tab Closed Captioning
Mask the video on the stage with a rectangle (I tried to drag the video from the stage but you won't hear the audio)

  • Error by exporting Captivate to Word: "Project Captions and Closed Captions"

    Hello everybody,
I'm from Germany, working in Heidelberg and I've got a problem! I would so much appreciate if somebody would have a solution for it.
Nobody could help me yet - no Adobe support via chat, no Adobe support via phone. They said the forum is my last chance. I'm frustrated. But a solution is important for my ongoing project...
    Description of the problem situation:
I've created an e-learning project in German language. This e-learning shall be translated into other languages, so I want to export a word document with the captions inside. I'm doing this way:
File > Export > Project Captions and Closed Captions, and save it as word doc.
But then, after I typed in a name for the word document, another "Save as"-window appears in the background (I discovered it by coincidence) and wants me to save a word template before the export process starts. Here's a screenshot:
I don't know the reason for this second "Save as" window, so I try to save a word template (I saved it on my desktop, because I don't know where else).
After klicking on "Save" the following error message appears:
(in English: Error by exporting of captions. Try the following things: if Microsoft Word is installed, if Word is open, if the exported file is open etc.)
It's not depending on the captivate file as such, I tried it with other ones (which have only one slide) - the same problem.
It's not depending on my computer, I tried it with another one in my office - there was the same thing, same error message (but without the step of saving a word template!).
Maybe important: My hardware and versions I'm working with...
    Windows 7 Professional (Service Pack 1), 64bit
    Adobe Captivate 8
    Microsoft Word 2010
Does anyone has the same problem or does anyone know the answer for this problem?
I would really really appreciate your answers!! Thank you in advance!
    Chris

    Dear Mayank, dear Lilybiri,
thank you both soooo much, I couldn't belive what I saw as the export of captions worked!!! It was really surprising!
I guess your both solutions helped me out - Mayank's hint of the admin's rights was the necessary information! But it first worked because Lilybiri told me to insist and to try it after I restarted the PC - and to do it several times! So it worked!! Otherwise I would probably still be confused.
    Thank you so much!
    Here's the proof
    Chris
PS: Does anyone know, why I still have to decide if I want to save the "Adobe Captivate" Template thing?
Every time I'm doing an export it asks me every time if I want to save or not save the "Adobe Captivate"-file...

  • HT200047 when watching a movie sub titles keep popping up and wont go away unless I stop the movie and restart it.  I have sub titles and closed caption off but it still comes up.

dont know what to do. When watching a movie, closed caption comes up and it wont go away unless I stop the movie and restart it.  Closed caption and sub titles are off but still comes up.  I restored my apple tv to factory settings to see if that would stop it, but it didn't work still comes up. What can I do?

  • FrontRow and Quicktime Closed Caption Scaling and Enabling

Currently, FrontRow renders Text tracks (for example Closed Captioning and Subtitles) to the same resolution as the Video. A low-res Video will have blocky, heavily anti-aliased text.
The same video played Fullscreen from Quicktime Pro or iTunes doesn't have these Artifacts. Text is smooth and crisp.
Hopefully FrontRow 2 will render Text tracks at the same resolution as the Display.
Enabling and Disabling Text Tracks and Supplementary Audio tracks needs to be addressed in FrontRow too. Quicktime needs improvements, but at least it is possible.

I would recommend, in addition to this topic, you send Apple some Mac OS X feedback directly:

  • Syncing controls for video and audio, with Closed Caption

    Hello,
First, I have Closed Caption and audio within my slide (no audio in video, because I couldn't use Closed Caption then) but now the audio can be turned on/off from project control bar while video continues to play. I tried to add a control bar to the video (hoping I would have control over both playing and audio) but now audio is controled by project slide control bar and video is controled by video control bar.
Is there any way to sync the 2 control bars? Or at least give control to the audio on the video control bar instead of the project control bar?
    Thanks,
    ROV Tech

    Your theory is proven false.
On the contrary, the variable framerate is the cause of sync issues and you just confirmed it.
Similarly, would you say that FCP is completely useless for all practical purposes, because it can't create Blu Ray disks?

  • Any word about final cut pro and closed captioning?

Has anyone heard any news of Final Cut Pro dealing with the issue of closed caption for their software?

Close Captioning is done through/with DVDSP, not FCP. Not good news if you want to deliver on tape-- but great if you deliver on DVD<<</div>
    Todd,
Not exactly true ... While they may seem to serve a similar function, Closed Captioning and Subtitling are two distinctly different things. Subtitles can be used on DVD-Video and turned on or off by the user via the remote (or defaulted to on by the author). Subtitles are also used by film makers releasing their films in foreign language countries.
On the other hand, Closed Captioning is encoded into line 21 of an NTSC video signal. CC is received and decoded by TV sets (required on ALL TV sets sold in the U.S.) as mandated by FCC ruling several years ago and more recently required by law under provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Since it's inception, CC inclusion was a very expensive process and remained in the realm of specialized service companies for many years. With the recent passing of the FCC's deadline for almost ALL broadcast programing (with few exceptions) to be closed-captioned, I would think/hope that NLE vendors, like Apple, Avid and others would incorporate CC capabilities into their programs. There is one other CC software solution for Macs that I'm aware of available from: http://www.ccaption.com/

  • Importing Closed Caption .scc file into Premiere Pro CS6.  Closed Captioning is enabled but cannot see the Captions tab.  Also get error message when importing to bin.

I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.  My aim is to export an mpeg file with closed captioning embeded for network television.  I have watched numbers adobe videos and have spent countless hours researching this.  I am able to generate about 29 different types of Closed Caption files using MovieCaptioner- including .scc (which Adobe says they prefer).  When I try to "Import" the file I get an incompatible error message.  The same happens with all other cc file types when I try to import them.  Second, I tried attaching the .scc as an attachment in the sequence menu.  They show up in the preview window, but do no encode into the mpeg file.  I am aware of this form:  Re: How do I export closed-captioned movies from Premiere CS6?
Third- I have watched some adobe video for created the CC files within Premiere. http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-premiere-pro-cc/create-closed-captions-within-premiere-pro /
However, I cannot find the "Caption" menu to do so?  Where is it?
Am I running into problems because I am not on the Creative Cloud?  IF so, is it possible to upgrade and how do i do that.  Adobe has made it incredibly difficult to contact anybody.

Sorry, you cannot do this in Premiere Pro CS6. Only QuickTime files can be exported with embedded closed captioning and this must be done in Premiere Pro CC or later. All other formats must use a sidecar file.

You can only attach a closed caption file in Premiere Pro CS6, no encoding is available for closed caption files (embedded or sidecar).

Caption is a tab is in the Export Settings dialog box if you want to export with closed captions. This tab is available in Premiere Pro CC and later.

In Creative Cloud, you would still have trouble encoding a MPEG 2 file with embedded captions as it is a QuickTime only feature. There might be a plug-in available, but I'm not aware of it.

  • I'm having major issues with closed captioning

I can't bring in SCC files. I'm working on a mac using 6 and cc and it's driving mad.

    Try this:
    Using PPRO CS 6.0
    1. Make sure that in the Program monitor, under the flag-menu options for the Program monitor (upper right icon), that "Closed Caption Display" is enabled and set to whatever your SCC is set to -- my SCC is CC1
    2. Select the Sequence you want captioning to appear in, and under "Sequence" menu in the main task bar, go to "Closed Captioning" and attach the SCC file
You should see captions now when you scrub in the Sequence
    Good luck!

  • Add Closed Captions to Button Audio?

Can you add closed captions to the audio file that's linked to a button? This is different than adding closed captions to the slide's audio file. I have a single slide with 7 "Next" buttons. Each next button includes a short audio file. I'd like to add closed captions to each of these audio files. But I can't seem to find a way to do it. I think the short answer to this question is "nope." But I wanted to check here first before I started re-doing the layout to break the slide into 7 separate slides. . . Thanks!

    Hi there
Indeed the short answer is no. However, if you are using Captivate 4, nothing says you can't be creative! Why not have some standard Text Captions that are hidden until you click the Button? Then they could serve as the "Closed Captioning" for the Button audio? As each button is clicked, it hides the other button's "Closed Captions" and presents its own "Closed Caption".

  • Closed captioning not appearing in video files

I've been working on producing a number of videos intended to be used as content in an iPad app for a Self-Guided Museum Tour which is under development by a non-profit Museum I work for. Many of the videos are intended to have closed captions for the hearing impaired.
Videos are being produced with Adobe Premier CC and exported as Quicktime .mov files with embedded closed captioning. These files play in all instances but in most of them, including the current IOS and Mac OS systems, the closed captioning is not visible. Tests indicate:
Closed captioning IS visible when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OS 10.8.5 in all instances.
Closed captioning IS visible when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 10.3 on a Mac running OS 10.9 as long as English subtitle is enabled.
Oddly, closed captioning IS visible the .mov file is played on an old copy of Quicktime Player 7 running OS 10.9.5 as long as "show closed captioning" is enabled.
Closed captioning IS NOT visible when the .mov file is played on Quicktime Player 10.3 (with subtitles either off or automatic) on a Mac running OS 10.9.5.
Closed captioning IS NOT visible when the .mov file is imported into an iPad Air running IOS 8.1.1 and played with Safari using the built-in IOS video player. This is my target destination for the project and is critical.
Since the .mov file does contain an embedded closed captioning track (verified as track 3), the problem does not appear to be with the file or how it was created. The problem appears to be with the video player supplied by Apple in the most current versions of both OSX and IOS. In light of Apple's long-standing priority for accessibility this result is surprising.
Need help if anyone can help figure out how to make closed captions work with the IOS video player.

Problem solved with a little help from a Senior Apple Tech Support person.
Essentially, what has to be done in the current versions of both OSX and IOS  is to configure the playback device's accessibility settings beforehand:
    IOS 8.1.1
    Settings–General–Accessibility–Subtitles and Captioning–turn on "Closed Captions+SDH"
    OSX 10.9.5 and OSX 10.10:
System Preferences–Accessibility–scroll down to Captions and click on "Prefer Closed Captions and SDH”
You can also change the font style for captioning from these menus.
Once done, a small caption icon that looks like a text bubble on the bottom of the screen when videos are loaded, now has a third option besides "Off" and "Automatic". If the video being played has captioning embedded it may read something like "English CC", as it does in the case of my Premier CC-generated, embedded closed captions. Once that is selected, the captions play properly. [Note that in IOS 8.1.1, the caption icon only appears when a video is played in full screen mode.]

  • No closed captioning on apple tv

I bought a tv series (The River) in itunes store with closed caption and the cc works fine on my imac but not on my Apple tv. Closed captioning is turned active on both computer and apple tv. What is wrong? I really need it

    Hey jespersthlm
I would restore the Apple TV and then turn the settings on again to ensure that everything is checked for closed captioning.

  • HT4613 But does new Apple TV HD  support closed captioning?

Apple TV HD is new and small; but does it step forward software-wise to support Closed Captioning,  and SubTitles?

It's a software issue plain and simple in my view (on AppleTV's side).  I don't think the optical hardware is limited - it's unlikely Apple would have sourced a non-standard optical solution and seeing as they come with the ability to do better quality audio I'd imagine this does too.
Yes Macs support at least 24/96 over optical as I've just reattached my Mini to a Yamaha DSP to play some 24/96 studio masters from Linn.
    Greg Jarvis wrote:
Wait a minute peeps - this isn't necessarily a problem with iTunes.  AFAIK iTunes does support 24-bit output - if you play a 24-bit ALE audio file via optical out of your Mac, it's 24-bit audio as far as I'm aware.
I was under the impression that the issue is with the ATV optical output itself - it's limited to 16-bit.
