Cluster vs domain

Hi,
some concept questions regarding domain and clustering.
Briefly of what i understand between the two.
domains are logical separation;no technical implications
clustering allows resources and services to be shared and also sharing of load.
1)can a cluster spill across different domains?
2)is the following setup legal?
Machine 1 has server 1 which is part of domainA
Machine 2 has server 2 which is part of domainA
and server 1 and server 2 is within the same cluster. Legal?
3)is the following setup legal?
Machine 1 has server 1 which is part of domainA
Machine 2 has server 2 which is part of domainB
and server 1 and server 2 is within the SAME cluster.
Legal?
If (3) is possible, it does not matter what domain i place server 1 and server 2 in , as long as they are within the same cluster right?

user user wrote:
Hi, what is the unique identifier of a domain? the domain name?
Machine 1 , server 1 in domain A // cluster Z
Machine 2 , server 2 in domain B // cluster Z
From the previous post,i understand that this is illegal.Yes, it is illegal. Domain is the element which includes clusters and/or
independent managed servers. Yes, domain name is a unique identifier of
a domain.
If i want to achieve the following configuration
Machine 1 , server 1(aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa:7001) in domain A // cluster Z
Machine 2 , server 2(bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb:7001) in domain A // cluster Z
assuming machine 1, server 1 in domain A and cluster Z already created.
in machine 2,i will create a domain A and add server 2, and add it to a cluster Z.
will server 2 know its in domain A? Or more specifically, will servers on DIFFERENT > machine know what its part of a domain ?

Your configuration should look for example like this:
Machine 1, Admin server (aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa:7101) domain A
Machine 1, Managed server1 (aaa.aaa.aaa.aaa:7001) domain A // clusterZ
Machine 2, Managed server2 (bbb.bbb.bbb.bbb:7001) domain A // clusterZ
You have to add administration server to your configuration
http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs100/cluster/config.html#wp1023838
http://e-docs.bea.com/common/docs100/confgwiz/intro.html
You have to define cluster in the domain, and configuration servers
which are in this cluster. Setting a cluster address is not enough.
All Managed servers, when starting, connect to the Admin server which
verify domain membership.
To set up a cluster just go step by step this list

I have 2 managed server in a Weblogic cluster domain and there is DataSource for them.

    Hi,
I have use WebLogic Server Console, tree: Services -> JDBC -> Connection Pools. Then I have choose 'Configure a new JDBC Connection Pool...':
    1.) as 'Database Type:' I have select MySQL (version using com.mysql.jdbc.Driver) -> click 'Continue' button;
    2.) 'Database Name:' = OSS; 'Host Name' = localhost; 'Port' = 3306; 'Database User Name:' = root; -> click 'Continue' button;
3.) 'Driver Classname:' = com.mysql.jdbc.Driver; 'URL:' = jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/OSS; 'Database User Name:' = root; 'Properties:' = user=root -> click to 'Test Driver Configuration' button.
After click on test driver button I get message: JDBC driver is not on the CLASSPATH.
But when I check System variables (in Control Panel -> System) I have set up following:
    CLASSPATH=.;C:\DB2\java\db2java.zip;C:\DB2\java\db2jcc.jar;C:\DB2\java\sqlj.zip;C:\DB2\java\db2jcc_license_cu.jar;C:\DB2\bin;C:\DB2\java\common.jar;C:\DBS\JDBC\db2\db2.jar;C:\DB2\BIN;c:\mysql.jar
The last value is 'c:\mysql.jar' and that's the mysql jdbc driver located on c:\.
I don't understand why weblogic cannot find it.
    Any idea?

  • Exchange 2010 - Clustering & DAG problems after restoring CLUSTER from domain

    Hi there!
    SITE 1
Primary EXCHANGE server (2010SP3 with latest CU) with all the roles installed
    SITE 2
Secondary Exchange server (2010SP3 with latest CU) with only mailbox role for DAG purpouse.
SITE 1 and SITE 2 are connected with site-to-site-vpn.
Both servers are on 2008 r2 ENT.
About 3-4 months ago we have accidentely delete DAG node from domain. We have managed to restore it from domain with using AD RESTORE and checking that DAG is member of all the required Exchange groups in the domain.
Now we are having some big problems if site-to-site-vpn dropps, our primary Exchange server in SITE1 is not working.
If VPN dropps between the sites, OWA gets unavailable as it Exchange servers would think that Exchange in SITE2 is primary server.
Please advice us how to track and repair the root of the problem.
    With best regards,

    Running command:
    Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus –Server "exchangesrvname" | FL MailboxServer,*database*,Status,ContentIndexState
Gives as an output that all the databases are healthy:

    DatabaseName       : DatabaseName1
    ActiveDatabaseCopy : exchange2010

  • SOA Clustering - Create cluster after domain creation

    Hi all,
I can't manage to find out how to properly move a standalone soa server into a cluster created after the domain.
I would like to do the following :
    1. Create a domain without any cluster --> All soa server deployments target a unique managed server
    2. Create a cluster afterwards and associate the soa managed server to it
    3. update all targets of soa server deployments to target the cluster instead of the initial managed server
--> I'm looking for a solution to do step 3 in a clean and automated way (That's looks a bit strange and painful to open every deployment and change the target one by one)
    I run WLS 10.3.5
    Thanks for your help.
    Philippe

You can probably try by cloning the server1 to server2 and that way have everything from server1 to be replicated on server2. Once server2 is created, then create the cluster of soa servers and then update the deployments to be deployed on all the members of the cluster rather then individual servers. You can perform these steps from the weblogic console and record the setps to generate WLST script for the same. Once the scripts are created, you can tweak them up a bit to have automated script to perform the steps without human intervention.

  • Asking for advice for Jabber deployment - multi CUCM cluster\AD domains

I would like some design advice for deploying Jabber and CUPS in our company. We have 2 locations, west coast (SiteA) and east coast (SiteB). Each site have their own CUCM 7.15 clusters, Unity clusters, AD domains (trusted, but not in the same forest).
At SiteA I have setup CUPS (8.6.3.10000-20) and jabber and have it working great.
I would like to setup CUPS\Jabber for SiteB, but they need to be able to IM\call\etc to SiteA (And vice-versa).
SiteA and SiteB both have CUCM LDAP sync turned on, and LDAP directory synced with both domains (although SiteA cannot authenticate to CUCM at SiteB, and vice-versa due to the fact you can only LDAP sync authentication with one domain, CUCM user database contain users from SiteA and SiteB).
We have SIP trucks setup to pass internal calls and line status(BLF) between the trunks, and can communicate via internal extensions just fine.
The problem I’m running into is my jabber-config files uses the EDI directory – which can only look at one domain, so I cannot search the other domain. I believe  changing to UDS fixes this, but I understand it would require me to upgrade both CUCM clusters to 8.6.2 - unless I’m mistaken.
I’m aware the desktop sharing will not work until CUCM is upgraded to 8.6.1 or 8.6.2.
I’m wondering if anyone has any advice, or can confirm I’m on the right track. Thanks in advance!

The thing that's important to understand is how CUP and Jabber build the XMPP URI. The URI has a left- and right-hand side; the left is the username while the right is the XMPP domain. CUP uses the LDAP attribute specified in CUCM's LDAP System page, sAMAccountName by default, for the left-hand-side. The right-hand side is the FQDN of the CUP cluster. Jabber must use the same values as CUP when displaying search results. Take note that nowhere in this process does the entire XMPP URI originate from the directory source.
In your case you have two separate CUP clusters in two separate domains. This won't work because when a user searches for a contact in the directory using Jabber, the client will build the XMPP URI as [email protected]. Even if you got the other domain's user objects into the search results the right-hand-side of the URI would be wrong and the presence subscription would never succeed since the other cluster is in another domain. As such your first task must be to move the CUP clusters into the exact same fully-qualified DNS domain. Once this is done you can use Inter-Cluster Peering to build a larger XMPP network in which all users have the same presence domain. If you intend to do Inter-Domain Federation in the future this must be your public DNS domain, not your internal active directory domain. If you use a non-public DNS domain TLS handshake will never succeed for inter-domain federation requests.
Once you have Inter-Cluster Peering in place you can use Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (the new name for ADAM) to front-end both forests. Both CUCM clusters would need to import the full list of users representing both domains and the sAMAccountNames must be unique across both domains.
Finally, you can instruct Jabber to use UDS and query it's local CUCM cluster which will be able to return a search result from both domains. Since the CUP clusters are peered in the same domain the XMPP URI can be built properly, the presence subscription can be routed to the correct cluster, and life will be good.
By this point hopefully it's clear that EDI won't cut it since it would be limited to only returning search results from the local forest.
Please remember to rate helpful responses and identify helpful or correct answers.

  • Win32 API to get cluster List from domain

    Hi ,
we are using NetServerEnum API to retrive the list of cluster from domain. But it failed with error 2127 on windows 2008 server and the cluster /list command also failed with same error.
But if we pass domain name to cluster .exe then it works.
So is there any win32 API other than NetserverEnum which will give the list of clusters in a domain.

    Hi,
can you also use powershell here?
    Get-Cluster -domain yourdomainFQDN.com
This will give you all failover cluster in the specified DNS domain.
    Hope that helps.

  • Problem in Domain Server for Cluster SAP installation

    Hello,
    SAP Production Landscape Information :
    SAP Version: ECC 6.0
    OS: Windows 2003
    Database : Oracle 10.2.0.2
Production Server is in MSCS cluster involving two nodes.
Also, this is a domain installation and hence user SAPSID and SAPSERVICESID resides on altogether different domain Server.
    Problem:
OS of u2018Windows domain serveru2019 has crashed. Hence, domain server is almost not usable.
Restart of it takes several hours. Repair of OS is tried by Microsoft without any success.
So this has resulted into communication problem between SAP Production server and Domain server. As an effect, restart of production server takes approximately an hour.
And hence I need some solution to resolve this SAP Server    Domain Server link.
Logically, following can be solution of this problem,
    1.     If Current SAP Production can be made as Local Installation instead of Domain installation. (Basically, creating users locally and making SAP refer that)
    2.     If above is not feasible then replicating domain server on new hardware and making SAP point to this new domain server.
However, I am not sure about feasibility and procedures for both of above cases.
Please let me know your views and any other solution for the same.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nirav.

    Hi Markus,
    Thanks for your reply.
Possibility of converting domain installation to local is ruled out as MSCS cluster needs domain.
As you have rightly mentioned, I do have secondary domain sever.
    For More information:
1)Domain details for primary server are
        Full computer name : APPL-SERVER.SHREE
        domain            : SHREE
as secondary server is kept shutdown, details are not available. (I can't run both server running simultaneously)
    2)sqlplus "/as sysdba"
    sql> select username from dba_users;
        TSMSYS
        OPS$SHREE\SAPSERVICEPRD
        OUTLN
        OPS$SHREE\PRDADM
        DIP
        DBSNMP
        SAPPRD
        SYS
        SYSTEM
    3) In the services, mainly users are using SHREE\PRDADM & PASSWORD.
Client have tried shutting down primary and promoting secondary domain controller. However, after that SAP service were not getting started. But on again starting primary controller, start of SAP services were successful.
As can be seen in 2nd & 3rd point above,SAP database and  SAP services both refer to name "SHREE" which seems domain name and not to hostname.
So in this case, when I start secondary domain server (primary is shut down) then as SAP is referring to domain name, SAP's service should start.
However, that was not the case. SAP Services were not able to get started.
So, do we have to change anything in SAP as to make it point to secondary domain server.
    Let me know your views.
    Regards,
    Nirav.

Despite the above, when we logon to Windows 2003 on SAP QAS server name

    SAENUS without permission problem.
    Regards, Johne.

We logon to the cluster with domaina\prdadm.
We logon to the QAS with domaina\qasadm.
We can access SAPMNT hosted on QAS from cluster when logged onto cluster using domaina\prdadm.
We can't access SAPMNT hosted on cluster from QAS when logged onto QAS using domaina\qasadm.

You're getting that probably because the WL instance was not shut down properly.
If that's the case, you'll need to remove an ldap lock file (with a .lok extension) in the directory of ldap files (under the server dir) .

  • Lync 2013 Error - Certificate could not be published in the database associated with User Services Cluster

    Hi Lync gurus,
    I have a weird issue:
Just installed a Lync Standard 2013.
Everything works except I keep getting this error in Log: every 30 minute or so.
    First an Error:  Event 47067
A server did not respond to HTTP request
Server lyncserver.domain.local did not respond to HTTP request PublishCertRequest targeted at

  • Please help urgently Failed to deserialize statedump from server in Cluster

    Dear All,
Appreciate a help on this urgently..... I am new to weblogic server & this technologies ... we created IPM,UCM,SOA clusters on one domain (my_domain), all the servers of all the clusters in 1st machine started .... but IPM server is not starting on the 2nd machine (other servers - SOA and UCM started on the 2nd machine)
I am getting the following error. could anyone help to solve this problem...

    This is definitely the problem:
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.imaging.input.inputagent.InputAgent
The cause is likely that the configuration during installation of IPM went wrong somehow or the particular way you are starting the server is missing the IPM libraries. This is not so much a WebLogic Server issue as an IPM issue. I recommend you try posting in one of the Content Mgmt forums like WebCenter Content or open a support case with the IPM team.

  • Is my installation of SQL Server Fail Over cluster correct?

I made a 2 node SQL Server 2012 fail over cluster but having some problems during installation so I wanted to know if the steps below I performed are correct.
    Hardware
    Node1 192.168.1.10
    Node2 192.168.1.11
    Added following entries in DNS
    cluster.domain.local 192.168.1.12 (for Windows Cluster)
    msdtc.domain.local 192.168.1.13 (for MSDTC)
sql.domain.local 192.168.1.14 (for SQL Server Cluster)
    Cluster Storage
    Disk1 (for Quorum)
    Disk2 (for MSDTC
    Disk3 (for SQL Server)
Now comes the installation. I am performing all these steps as DOMAIN ADMIN.
    1. First I installed clustering role on both nodes
    2. Then I ran fail over validation wizard on Node1 adding both nodes which went fine (there were some warnings)
    3. Then I made a Windows Cluster on Node1 using these two nodes. I gave the name and IP to this cluster which I wrote above i.e. cluster.domain.local 192.168.1.12
    4. Cluster was created and boths nodes are UP.
Now I want to ask a question here. Is it best practice to perform the above operation using DOMAIN ADMIN? Or if I use a standard domain user account with local admin rights, will it work? If not then exactly what rights are required to perform this operation.
    5. Then I installed "Application Server" role on both Node1 and Node2 and also added "Distributed Transaction" feature
    6. Then I right clicked on Windows Cluster I created and added a new role/feature which is "DTC"
    7. I gave it the same name which I wrote above i.e. msdtc.domain.local 192.168.1.13
    8. MSDTC was created but when it tried to UP its service, it threw an error. Upon investigation it turns out the Windows Cluster cluster.domain.local doesn't have proper rights to created some objects in AD. I didn't know what rights to give so I gave it full
permission and after that when I created MSDTC again, the service went up fine.
So I want to know what rights does cluster.domain.com require to make MSDTC?
Am I doing good so far?

    Hello,
    >>Then I made a Windows Cluster on Node1 using these two nodes. I gave the name and IP to this cluster which I wrote above i.e. cluster.domain.local 192.168.1.10
Hello I suppose this IP was physical node IP windows cluster IP was 192.168.1.12  I suppose yo must have given this IP as windows cluster IP.10 and 11 are physical nodes in Cluster but 12 is Cluster IP .Correct me if I am wrong.
Did you do failover and failback to check whether cluster is configured correctly or not ,If not please do it .
    >>Then I ran fail over validation wizard on Node1 adding both nodes which went fine (there were some warnings)
Please remove warnings also ,it might cause issue. Not sure its correct every time but make sure cluster validation should be free of error and warning.
    >>Now I want to ask a question here. Is it best practice to perform the above operation using DOMAIN ADMIN?
You can do it with domain admin account as this is required to create Cluster NAme object(CNO) in domain and local account might not have that right so I would say its ok.
    >>I gave it the same name which I wrote above i.e. msdtc.domain.local
    192.168.1.11
again this IP is node 2 IP how can you give it to MSDTC.Use below link for reference

  • How do I maintain consistent ODL configuration across a cluster?

ODL has good support for viewing logs across multiple servers in a cluster or domain withh Fusion Middleware Control. There seems to be no similar support for configuring ODL across multiple servers.
The objective is identical ODL configuration for all servers in a cluster. Clearly this can be done by copying logging.xml files to each server, issuing wlst logging commands to each server, or configuring each server using FMW Control.
Have I missed some built-in way to configure once and have FMW apply to multiple servers?

    Hi,
The version set information and the tag hierarchy are stored within the catalog. It sounds as though you haven't brought over the catalog from your old computer.
The recommended way to transfer elements from one computer to a new one is to use the Backup catalog to CD, DVD or Hard Drive on your old system and then use Restore catalog from CD, DVD or Hard Drive on your new system. Is this how you did it?
That should have preserved your version sets.

  • Queue visibility in cluster

              Hi
If I create a JMS server and a destination and then attach it to a member of the

that this is not happening in wls 7.0 sp2 clustering. I just have 2 managed servers

    Hi Anamitra,
I know the customer is always right! ;-)
But you are trying something that is very common, we have
many customers using JMS in clusters, and we DO actually test -
thousands of JMS tests that variously run per-build, nightly,
              and per SP.
So please forgive me if my first instinct is that
there is not a WebLogic problem here, but instead a "first-time"
setup problem. I fully admit that there is a chance you are
right, but lets look at the other possibilities first.

  • Moving Physical Cluster into Virtual Cluster

    Hello All...........I have a Physical SQL Cluster 1 cluster1.domain.com (Node A and
Node B) using SAN A.  Physical SQL Cluster contains
    three-3 instances.
I have built a Hyper-V Failover Cluster and upon it I have also built a Guest/Virtual SQL Cluster 2
    cluster2.domain.com (Node A and Node B) using SAN B.
Now, I want to move the instance/databases from Physical SQL Cluster 1 cluster1.domain.com to Guest/Virtual SQL Cluster 2 cluster2.domain.com.  Is this supported?
Or do I have to add the Virtual Nodes (NodeC and
NodeD) to cluster1.domain.com and then failover the
instances/database to new virtual nodes and then remove the Physical Nodes (NodeA and
    NodeB).
Also, confused as to how would I manage the Storage as old Physical SQL Cluster
cluster1.domain.com uses SAN A and I have new Virtual SQL Cluster
cluster2.domain.com on SAN B.  Would I be requiring to change the instances/databases location as well?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

    Hello,
There is a good bit of different things going on here so I'll try and make it short.
Normally, it wouldn't be a problem to add in new nodes (virtual) to the current physical, install SQL Server, and eventually evict the physical nodes in order to migrate. However, you're using a different SAN for the storage. You could *still* do this, but
you'd need to have SAN replication on the backend between the two and set it up very much like a 2008/R2 geo-cluster.
The *easier* way, depending on clients, would be to either log-ship or mirror the databases to the new instances. When you have time to cutover, fail the mirrors to the new cluster and then remove mirroring. The clients would need to either be aliased or
re-pointed. It could be done less cleanly by using a cname change for the old to the new but I'd stay away from that.
