Conditional formating of time eg highlight all 7:00 PM

Hi,
So my problem is that i have a large registration of times and i would like to highlight ALL the, example, 7:00 PM.
however i have not been able to do so....
I have tried linking to different cells, inputing the time and none of it works.
when i reference to a cell with the specific time that i would like to highlight, the cell contains a date as well and therefore any times entered on a different days do no highlight.
anyone body have a suggestion on how to do this?
thank you for your time and effort!

as you can see there, i need to print lists like that.... all times that are not 8:00 or 18:00 (in the respective columns) i would like to be highlighted. (the times frequently change thus the problem with the date being automatically appended to the time... although its not visible.
Hi Max,
Here's a possible solution. There are two versions shown—the 'work-it-out' version shown above the Conditional Format rule dialogue and the 'more polished' version below. Note that both versions use the "Base Date and Time" table at the top right.
Still a work in progress, and I had an idea for a 'cleaner' version while posting this, so only a brief explanation. Nothe that most of the cells in the top example have been formatted to show both parts of the Date and Time values contained. For the 'final' version, formatting would be as in the lower example.
Column D contains a formula to 'Normalize' the Date and Time values so that they all contain a fixed date part, in this case January 1, 1904, and the same time part as the cell to their left. The formula is shown at the top of the image.
In the bottom example, the table shown is a duplicate of the one above. Column D has been separated from it to create a new single column table. (The formula automatically adjusts when this is done.)
Conditional formattng on the new single column table is the same as on D above. Both Fill and Text colors are set to the same blue shade when the condition is met, and text colour is set to normally be white to match the normal background of the cells. The table is set to show only the time part of the values (as is column C on the main table), and the Header cell's entered value is erased.
The background fill of the main table is left white, but its opacity is set to zero (Transparent). Widths of column C and the single column of the new table are set to match, then the new table is moved behind Column C of the main table. The highlighting shown is actually of cells on the new table, showing through the transparent background of the (lower) main table.
More to come later tonight.

Barry

I have a big problem that needs to be resolved ASAP!
I arrange music for big band (or large ensemble) and when I get my individual parts looking good, and print them out, I can't get the same page layout if I have to go back and change anything in my individual parts. Let's say that if I change one chord and that changes one bar in the song, I have to redo all the formatting every time and for ALL THE BAND! 19 parts...
Is this possible to get something locked?
It's to much work compare to Finale!

  • Conditional format of one cell based on contents of another cell

Preparing list of appointments for visitors with time for each. There are four possible status categories for visitors based on projected activity and whether they have shown up or not. (A Group Scheduled, A Group Showed, B Group Scheduled, B Group Showed). I've created the calendar in iCal with different calendars, then accessed that through Bento iCal Events. Bento adds the column with name of calendar from iCal. Info is now in Numbers. (iWorks 09)
It shows Title, Start Date, Location, Calendar. I'm adding more fields using Lookup in Numbers drawing on entire data base brought over from Bento. I'm trying to get what info I need, but none that I don't, so the form isn't too crowded and busy.
I would like to be able to conditionally format the Time column based on the contents of the Calendar column. If successful, the color of the Time column would tell me all I need to know about visitor status, and I could hide the Calendar column and clean up the form.
I hope I've described it adequately. Can this be done, and if so, how?
    Thanks! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Does it work to format two cells based on contents of one of them?
Conditional formatting of a cell depends on the contents of that individual cell, compared with another value, so no.
But you could use a two-table approach.
In general terms, the technique is to:
    • make the original table's cell fill transparent,
    • Add a second table to the sheet,
    • Set the second table to copy the control values into a column of cells,
    • Select the cells in that column of Table 2,
    • Apply conditional formatting rules for each possible control value (see below)
    • Set the text opacity for these cells to 0 (full transparency),
    • Click on Table 2 in the sidebar, then use (shift and) the arrow keys to slide Table 2 behind Table 1 to align the highlighted cells with the cells to appear highlighted in Table 1.
    • Set the colour of the cell borders on table 2 to none.
Using the information you gave regarding the calendar column, you'll need four rules for conditional formatting of this column. All are of the same format:
    Text contains: A Group Scheduled
With the text changed to match each possible entry.
    Regards,
    Barry
BTW: by changing the width of the formatted column on table 2, you can appear to highlight as many columns as you wish on Table 1.

  • Conditional formatting: greatest and lowest values in a column?

I have a column of data, with about 30 rows of values. Is it possible to setup conditional formatting so that Numbers highlights the top three highest values and the lowest three values in the column?
    thanks!

    How's this:
    1. Create the second table for the large and small formulas. I did one column, you should be able to copy it to the rest of them.
    2. Create the conditional format for the first data cell in the first row of your data table (go to the cell inspector and choose "show rules" to get to the conditional formatting pane).
    3. Select the cell, Copy Style, select all the other data cells in the row and Paste Style to copy that conditional format to the other columns. At this point, the conditional format in the other columns will be incorrect (they will all refer to the large/small values for the first column), you'll have to modify each manually so they refer to the correct cells in the "large/small" table.
    4. Copy Style and Paste Style each of those conditional formats to the rest of the cells in each column.
One caveat: You may get more than three smallest/largest values highlighted under certain conditions. For instance if you have four 1's and "1" is your smallest value, all four would get highlighted. If you have two 1's and two 2's, and they are your smallest values all four would get highlighted. If you have 1,2,3,3 and they are your smallest values you would also get four highlighted. Similar case for the largest values. It doesn't appearthat this would be a problem for your data.

  • Is it possible to conditional format more than one cell at a time?

I'd like to use conditional formatting to compare the value in cell E3 with the valve in cell D3.  Then I'd like to copy the conditional formatting rule I made in cell E3  to cells E4 E5 E6 E7 ETC.  I'd like the E4 to compare to D4. E5 to compare to D5 and so on.  Is there an easy way to do this other than creating the rule for each cell?

    Easier, yes. Instant, no.
Assuming the only thing that will change in the rule from one cell to the next is the reference to the comparison cell, do this:
Select all of the cells to be formatted.
Set the comparison rule to apply to D3.
At this point all the selected cells in column D will base their conditional formatting on a comparison with the value in E3. The next step is to edit the rules for D4, D5, etc.
    Select cell D4.
In the rule statement, click on the cell reference E3 to select it, then click on the correct comparison cell for the selected cell (E4 for D4) to replace the reference.
Repeat with the next cell in column D.

  • XStep conditional formatting. Can it be determined at run time ?

Does anyone know of a way to put conditional formatting into an XStep generated table output. For example, this is what we are trying to do:
    - At some point after an order is generated and released, materials are issued to it.
    - We have created a function module that reports back the list of all materials issued.
    - The FM also checks to see if the material was planned in a reservation.
    - If a material issued was not a planned material we want to list it in RED.
In the XStep repository, I can simulate a table output using parameter PPPI_FRAGMENT_HTML, and can change font color by giving it a value like
    <div style="color: red">TEST123</div>
And I get TEST123 displayed in RED.
I also get TEST123 displayed in red on the generated PI sheet, if I put the put the HTML string above into the XStep as a fixed value.
But if I program the FM to return this string, then I get the entire string output in the table field and the font color is not changed to RED.

I got a response at the XStep Cafe and thought it might help others if I share it here.
    Arne Manthey:
I assume that you are also using PPPI_FRAGMENT_HTML for the parameter to which the FM returns your string. If you valuate this parameter manually it is internally handled as a long text. However the function module will most likely return just a string value and these are probably not recognized as a long text. I do not have any idea how to valuate a long text with a FM when the PI Sheet has already been generated. The only thing I did successfully was to generate HTML text during generation (although not with XSteps). But in your case this would not help, yes?
The general problem with long text elements is that they are really meant for initial valuation only and not for changing back and forth.
Another way of doing conditional formatting would be to use some Stylesheet magic which evaluates a status parameter you would set by a function module. This would most likely also include some Javascript to make the change happen. Please follow that path only if it is really necessary because Stylesheet stuff is not easy to handle.
    mrupp:
    Thanks Arne.
We decided to just add an additional table column with an alert message when needed to flag Unplanned Materials and/or Expired Shelf Life. I have played around with Stylesheets & Javascript a bit and agree that it is not worth it in this case.

  • Excel 2013 Conditional Formatting problem

    Hello!
A customer of mine has recently transitioned from Office 2007 to Office 365. This has been a major hurdle for them, and they're still experiencing some issues with things not behaving the way they used to. I'm not an Excel expert, so I have no idea if the
following issue is some sort of bug or compatibility issue, or if the user is just expecting behavior that isn't going to occur in this version of Excel.
She has a spreadsheet that she uses to schedule people. She uses conditional formatting to change the color of numbers based on their size. For example, everything less than 2 is red, everything between 2 and 4 is green, etc.
So, let's say she has two rows that have been formatted already. Then she adds a third row, inputs the data, then highlights the entire row and tries to format it. Once she adds her rules and clicks "Ok", that row is formatted...but rows 1 and
2 have now been cleared of all formatting. So basically, she can't format things on the go, as she puts them in, she has to format everything at the same time, every time.
It doesn't happen to every row that has already been formatted. If she has 20 rows that are formatted, sometimes only 2 of them will lose their formatting after she applies her rules to a new row. It's usually the rows that are right next to the new row.
I have very little experience with Excel conditional formatting, so I don't know what would cause this, or if there's a fix or workaround. Also, I'm not sure if I'm explaining it clearly. Any help or suggestions would be welcome!

    Hi,
According to your description, this issue seems occur with the special spreadsheet. In my view, it might be more related to the file itself, such as incorrect range with conditional formatting rule, double rule with same cell range or other.
would you like to send the sample file to me ([email protected])  if possible? I want to test it.

  • Is it possible to save a set of conditional format rules in Numbers?

I am a doctor, and I have a call schedule that comes out each month (in an Excel spreadsheet). So, I want to open up the spreadsheet in Numbers and have each instance of my name (Smith) highlighted, by setting the background of the cell to a fluorescent yellow. This is easy to do by using conditional formatting, and it works well.
My problem is that each time I want to use the same conditional formatting rule, I have to manually set it up. I would like to be able to save the 'rule', ideally linked to a toolbar button, so that I can run this conditional formatting on any Numbers spreadsheet with one (or two) click(s).
Does anyone know if this is possible?

Create a table with the conditional rules then use Format > Advanced > Capture Table
Each time you will create a new table from the captured table it will have all the source's attributes.
Of course, you must save in the native Numbers format.
If you export as Excel most of these settings will be lost.

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 - Conditional formatting

    Hey all,
I'm trying to pull of conditional formatting for the outcome of a "Yes or No" column within a Custom List, however all the searching I have done shows that it seems to have been removed in Sharepoint 2013 without using a Jquery (I'm having problems
getting my head around Sharepoint 2013 at the moment, dont want to add Jqueries to it as well lol).
Have I missed something stupidly easy? I have http://www.cdpdev.com/Blog/Post/7/Conditional-Formatting-in-SharePoint-2013 but it seems to be using Sharepoint
2013 with Sharepoint designer 2010 which I dont really want to have to do as the will be in time handed over the my 'manager' who will self manage and using 2 different pieces of software is kinda out of the question.

    Hey @ITechbrij
it seems the above post doesn't work for Sharepoint 2013 as I'm getting a syntax error but this maybe due to me not being able to find the formula box so put it into the "Column Validate" section as I'm missing the formula box that is shown in the 2010 screenshots.
If this is not possible what do you suggest? Going with the Sharepoint designer 2010 approach? As I cant find how to do it in 2013 and wouldn't know where the start with a jquery lol.

  • SSRS 2012 Conditional Formatting Color Issues When Exporting to Excel

    Hi all,
We recently upgraded to SQL 2012 from SQL2008 R2. I'm having a strange issue with SSRS2012.
One of the report has conditional formattings on cell background colors. Everything works fine when render the report in browser or preview mode. However, the conditional formatting stop working when export the report to Excel (no issues if
export to pdf). All cells are high-lightened with pre-defined color although it should only high-lighten those cells that fulfil the condition.
Has someone encountered this issue before ? Thanks for any help.

    Hi ZZ02,
I have test the scenario in my testing environment, however, everything goes well when exporting to Excel format. The issue might be related to the expression for the conditional background color. To make further analysis, please post the expression as well
    as the report design structure.
Additionally, in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, the Excel rendering extension renders a report to the native format of Microsoft Excel 2007-2010, the format of which is ExcelOpenXML. By default, the previous version of the Excel rendering extension,
compatible with Microsoft Excel 2003, is disabled. At this time, I suggest that you enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension by modifying the RSReportServer.config file. After that, the Excel 2003 rendering format will be available on report manager (not
available in Report Designer). So, please export the report from report manager and check the result again.

  • Issue with conditional formatting in XML publisher report

    Hi All,
I am working on a XML report where in I am required to use conditional formatting to highlight changes, if there is change in any of the column value. The condition is required to be implemented on a text column as well as a number column. I have tried to use the conditional formatting available in the BI Publisher Release 10.1.3.2, wherein I have compared the two columns, and when they are not equal to, then formatting should change to red color; but the same is not working in the excel output.
    Can anybody help here?
    Thanks,

Cross conditional formatting ie formatting based on some other column is not supported in pivot view.
There are some workaround.See if that helps

  • Conditional formating in report painter (GRR2)

    Hi all,
An end user ask me if it's possible to do a conditional formatting in a cell of report painter (run with GRR3) if the value is true (i.e. as in excel, you can colour a cell if it's less than zero and so on). I know that it's possible with the BEx (for SAP BI), xcelsius, crystal reports and surely with bussiness object. I can see that it's only available do the format for the all column or for a line, but I don't  find the option for a cell with a condition (surely because it isn't available).
Please, confirm me if it is not available, because I'm a long time looking for a reply but I only find info about BEx, xcelsius and so on (nothing related with report painter, GRR2 and so on). But if it's possible, please let me know how to do it.
    Thanks in advance
    Best regards,

    Hi,
I don't think that we can put the conditional formula. but we can do the calcualtion by row wise or column wise.
    Thanks.

  • Numbers point to a cell with different formatting to create conditional format

Hi all, not sure if this has been brought up but my search efforts haven't found anything. I know conditional formatting is not supported in IOS numbers but I saw a buddy do a little trick a while ago and I've been trying to replicate it. On his iPad, he created a numbers spreadsheet that had a logic function (=if). And if that function was true it pointed to another cell with different formatting. The result was, the cell would become the same format as the cell it was pointing too. This created the effect of a conditional format in a sense. I can get this to work with limited effect, only if the cell is a "text" cell and not a formula. As well the background colour doesn't get picked up, only the format of the cell text itself. I'm trying to get in touch with him for help but in the mean time does anyone have any experience in this kind of method?
    Cheers

    As an example:
If A > B, then A-B, otherwise make it equal this other cell (D1 for example)
    {=if(a1>b1,a1-b1,d1)}
And in that d1 cell I would make another formula that also does the same subtraction (a1-b1) however knowing it will be a negative number this time, I paint the cell bright red and hopefully the original cell will then look the same since it is now equal to this one.
Unfortunately it looks like this wont work. The closest thing to doing this trick I have found is pointing to a cell formatted as text, such as a blank cell. Then the original cell takes on the formatting characteristics of the text cell.  The problem is the text cell is useless since it can't do any sort of math. I can't even set the cell to simply equal another one and format it as text only. So far it looks like the only conditional type of trickery I can do is make the numbers disappear by pointing to a blank text cell.
I hope that helps describe it a little better.

  • Using a function as condition for conditional formatting

    Hello,
I am trying to switch from Excel to Numbers and I'm having trouble figuring out the conditional formatting in Numbers. In Excel, cell(s) can be highlighted, font changed, etc based on a function linked to another cells value. That is, cells A1:A4 can be highlighted if cell A5 has a particular value or not. I can't figure out how to do this in Numbers. Is it possible?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Sorry, I haven't had a lot of time lately. Thanks to Peggy for the link to instructions on posting pics. Thanks to Barry for his response (which I haven't explored in detail yet). Here is a pic that may explain what I'm trying to do a little more clearly.
Here's your image, pulled in with the (edited) HTML code supplied by Flickr
The editing consisted of removing everything in front of "<img". The essential difference between this code and what you used is the addition of double quotes ( " ) enclosing the whole URL (from "http: to .jpg").
Both conditions look identical, except for the cell being referenced by the formula.
Can you restate, in English, the condition under which the cell to which these rules apply would be formatted to have a dotted green fill and text in italics and with a strike through applied?
Also, to what cell is the conditional formatting applied, and what is the value in that cell?
