Connect Macbook to Printer

I need to connect my Macbook to my home windows Epson (DX8450) printer so I can start printing documents off ASAP.
Which lead do I need to do this? Ive searched the internet and most websites/forums don't seem to provide a simple answer..
I know there are ways of doing it wirelessly but I havnt set the wireless network up yet and It won't be up for a few weeks, could someone tell me what cable to buy?
Help is much appreciated, thanks.

Hello, graffic. Without knowing what sort of connection your Epson requires, it's a bit difficult to tell you what you'll need. I suspect that there is some information in the book/pamphlet that probably came with your printer? Or is there an online FAQ?
The strongest possibility these days is that your printer is USB, though there are exceptions. If it is indeed USB, you will hook one end of the USB cable into your printer and the other end into a USB port on your MacBook, and you should be ready to go.
I'm assuming that you have already loaded the printer drivers you will be using, of course.
Good luck!

  • Connecting MacBook to printer in an XP Microsoft Small Network

Hi: I have working my Home Network in all my PCs and printer with windows XP Prof. The MacBook is connect to the printer using its MS OS and works very well in MS environment, wireless or directly connected.
How could I set up my MacBook in this Network throughout the Tiger Mac OS 10.4.11??
(I need connect my MacBook to this network and its printer, but from Tiger OS)
    Thanks

I think he means that he is dual booting (or using a VM) and the Windows partition on the MacBook can connect to the shared printer.
    To connect your Mac running Tiger 10.4.x to a printer being shared by a PC, read the following article;

  • Connecting Macbook to printer in wireless network

I recently got a Macbook. I have a pc downstairs that is connected to an HP officejet printer, and one upstairs connected to the same printer via the wireless network. My Macbook uses the same wireless network but I don't know how to find and connect to my home printer. It is already connected to one printer - an unopened one I will use at college. Can I connect to two? I searched via spotlight (I'm new to Macs and finding everything) and it brought me to the printer utility set up thing, but I just can't find the printer even when I tell it to add one. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me!
    Thanks,
    Kerry

  • Connecting MacBook to printer via wireless network

I have a wireless network via cable modem with some PCs attached and a printer but am having trouble connecting my new MacBook to the HP LaserJet 2100 printer via wireless. I do not have airport express and not sure I need it to have the MacBook print to this printer. Please advise.

    Hi topgunner,
How is the printer connected? Are you trying to share it via a PC through wireless? Or is it connected directly to a router/hub that is enabled for printer sharing?

  • Connect Macbook to printer shared on Mac from a different subnet

I have 2 printers shared from a Mac Mini (OS C 10.8.4) and I need to setup a Mac on a different subnet to use them.  The Mini already has shared folders that I can access from either location.  The printer only shows up when I am on the same subnet as the Mini.

    Read about Bonjour sharing:

  • MacBook Pro cannot connect to wireless printer

I just replaced my printer with an HP Photosmart plus e all in one B210. I set it up and it connected to my network and prints fine from my PC. When I installed the software on my MacBook, it is able to find the printer, but after installation is complete it is unable to connect. I have checked the HP support page but it appears I have done everything correctly. I am assuming there is a setting or two that I need to tweak but I cannot figure it out. I have turned off firewall, and all devices are connected to the same network. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently my original post was not clear enough. The printer shows up in Print&Fax under System Preferences as idle with a green dot. I have tried with "share this printer" selected and printer sharing turned on but still does not connect. The printer works just fine with my PC connected via ethernet to a dual band Airport Extreme. I have installed/reinstalled the software several times and the printer says it has the latest firmware. I am also unable to utilize the AirPrint feature with my iPhone 4 running 4.2.2.

  • Macbook can't connect to B110 printer by WiFi

    Hi,
Whenever I enable WPA or WPA2 security on the WiFi, my Macbook will not be able to print/scan to the B110 printer via wireless network, though I can access the printer with the IP address at my browser and scan from the web interface. The PC at my home has no problem. Also, my Macbook can print/scan to the printer without any issue if no security is enabled for the wireless network. What's the solution?
I have tried all the suggested solutions, including reseting the printer in the pref, uninstall the HP software, but to no avail.
    Config:
    Mac OS X 10.6.6
Updated to the latest printer driver from HP (version 3.2)
    Router: Level One WBR-6011
Thanks a lot for your help!

Is this a router that is supplied by your ISP?  Is it a DSL or FIOS service?
If so, let's reinstall the printer in this manner:
    - Unplug the Internet line that runs between the router and the wall
    - Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
    - Go through the normal process of connecting the printer to the router.
    - Now find the IP address of the printer (it should be on the self-test printout), type it into a browser.
    - On that screen you will find a Networking Tab, then on the left Wireless, then the IPv4 Tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know, use the current IP address.
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router IP (its on the self-test printout) in the Gateway and first DNS field, leave the second blank.
    - Click 'Apply'
    - Finally, plug in the Internet line, reboot the router and test.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • I just replace my modume and am trying to print on my HP office jet pro printer which I share with a PC computer. It worked before but I can not get it to print. My MacBook says it is connected to the printer, but then it says it is idle. What should I do?

We just had our modume replace and I am now trying to print on my HP Office Jet Pro

    Hello mariamac80,
It sounds like you cannot print from your network printer on your MacBook. Printer issues can be a but tough to nail down, but I would recommend trying the troubleshooting in this article named:
Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3147
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Connecting Samsung Wireless Printer w/MacBook

Im having great difficulty trying to set up wireless printing between my MacBook and a Samsung ML-2955DW wireless printer. I wanted to check in on these forums first, before calling Samsung, because, admittedly, I need help with the basics. And, I would like to gain a better understanding about what it is Im supposed to be doing before speaking with them.
    The "Players" are as follows:
    -MacBook 2GHZ Intel Core2 Duo... w/System 10.5.8
    -(2006) PowerMac G5... w/System 10.4.11
    -Samsung ML-2955DW Printer
    -Airport Express Brick 802.11n
-Realtek WLAN Wireless Wifi USB Adapter
My first question is... is this even possible with the set-up that I have? My G5 does not have Airport built in. I had to buy the Wireless Wifi USB Adapter to plug into the back so that my MacBook could link with it.
I was going with the notion that it is possible and tried to set-up the printer according to what the Samsung instruction book calls an Infrastructure Mode Set Up; that is–connecting to the printer via a router. For this set-up they show a diagram where the supplied USB cable connnects directly into the back of the Desktop computer.  The directions continue with how to change the IP address, Subnet Mask, etc... and then they end. So am I to assume that if I am able to complete the installation process to my Desktop computer I will then be able to install the driver on my MacBook and be able to print wirelessly? I have tried this method with no success at all.
The furthest I got with trying to get a connection was by following directions posted on MacRumors for another wireless Samsung model. They instructed connecting the printer directly to the computer with an ethernet cable (not sure if they meant to connect to the desktop or laptop, I connected it to my desktop, as it wouldnt work at all connecting it to the laptop). I was able to get the IP, Subnet, etc.. info from the printer by doing this and changing it to my network settings via their Sync thru Web method. However, in the end, I could not change the TCP/IP setting to DHCP or set up the wireless printing.
Thank you in advance for any help with this, I can surely use it.

This is for Snow Leopard, which you show you're using - might be of some help. I have a Canon MG8120 which I print to with ease (scan, too). During your setup, you should have had the printer 'seen' on the network.
    Regards,
    Clinton

  • Connect my network printer to macbook air

I've recently switched from windows to Mac - I have first gen MAc book air. I'm trying to connect a wireless printer to it. (Kyocera Taskalfa 250ci). The mac can't find it, so I type in the IP address under the IPP setting. But it just won't connect. I have downloaded the relevant printer drives as well. But no joy.
    Any advice?

Apple seems to have dropped the ball here,
I have been having the same problem with (Kyocera Taskalfa 3050ci) It seems that the Macs can't detect the printer
I have tried two different Macbook Pros, a 15 inch and a 13 inch they are both 2011 models, they connect once and that's it
they never detect the printer anytime after.

  • Help cant get MAcbook to print to a Canon MP500 connected to Windows 7 lap

Have spend nearly all day trying to work this out but nothing i do works. The printer is connected to a Windows 7 Home premium Samsung r780 and I can share files between the computers fine but the mac will not connect to the printer. I have tried to use the LPD protocol which I have activated in windows. I enter the IP address for the PC laptop in the Add printer window on the mac but not sure what to enter in the name, location & Print using. Very frustrated as i can get the old XP laptop to printer fine.

For the LPD protocol, you need to enter the Windows 7 share name for the LPD queue name on the Mac. I also suggest that you don't use any spaces for the share name. Just have MP500. So you may need to change this first on Win7 before trying to add the printer queue again.
The other thing to note is that for many Canon inkjets, you cannot use the Canon driver when the printer is being shared from Windows. For these types of connections, you need to use a CUPS-based driver, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. Since Gutenprint is free, it is the preferred option. You may already have the Gutenprint drivers on your Mac as they are part of the SL install. So for the Print Using menu, you need to select 'Canon PIXMA MP500'.

  • Help!! I can't get my new macbook to print with my Dell 155w OR burn a home movie to DVD

I cannot get my very recently purchased macbook pro to burn a home video to dvd OR connect to my dell 155w printer. I bought a macbook because it was so highly recomended. But I don't want to keep replacing things. I am so frustrated. I wanted a macbook because of its reputation. But I can't seem to figure out anything. I'm dissapointed and thinking I will just return it.

Your problem may be able to be solved but take this from a Long time Windows user and current Mac owner. Macs are not easier to use. Mac break down just as often as PCs, percentage wise as to how many are sold/produced.
They use the exact same hardware as Win PCs.
The learning curve for OS X is greater then for Windows.
Not sure of the age of your printer but it may not be supported in the newest Mac OS, Lion.
We would need a little more info on how you are trying to connect TO the printer. USB cable or Wirelessly.
As far as burning a Home Movie to DVD. Apple use to supply a program called iDVD for this but with the introduction of Lion OS they stopped supplying that program. You could try another burning program. Try Burn or you could buy something like Toast (Burn is free).
Personally I would return your Macbook Pro and stick to what you know with a good PC notebook.
Apple has a 14 day No Questions Asked return policy for Full refund. Take advantage of that policy.
