Consideration for no. of Plan types in HP

Hi Expert,
Would like to inquire if there's any rules or guidelines to decide under what circumstances, we should structure separate plan types in an HP application?
I understand a typical rule would be if separate dimensions are needed for different set of data, then may need separate plan types, but want to further explore the following situations:
Situation 1:
Say for 1 set of data (say data set A), we need to have dimension 1, 2
For another set of date (i.e. data set B), we need dimension 3
For both data set, there are 5 other common dimensions that are needed by both
we are face with the option of either setup only 1 plan type, and setup members of dimension 1 & 3 into the same dimension, and webform to control for data set A, select dimension 1 tree, and data set B, select dimension 3.
Or we setup 2 plan types.
Want to check what would be the factors that we need to consider whether to separate the plan type or not?
Situation 2:
We have 2 groups of data, both groups require the same sets of dimension. But we anticipate the volumn of both groups would be quite large and although their dimensionality is the same, but the 2 groups of data are independent from each other.
We wonder if we should split them into 2 plan types, to avoid any performance issues, when more and more data are entered?
Say we have about 11/12 dimensions, in which the account dimension (which is dense), have about 500-700 for each group, then 4-5 dimensions will have about 500 - 1000 members each, and want to store about 5-7 years of data, in about 20 scenarios/versions combination. Is this large enough to justify / better to have separate plan types?
Want to know, what would be the limit / threshold of no. of dimensions / members to decide whether to have 1 or multiple plan types? or what other considerations?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I have took the below content from OTN. Please understood your requirement properly, based on that defined the Plan types.
A few points of clarification:
I have seen a fair number of clients use multiple plan types when it was probably not necessary. For example, I had one client create three plan types that were identical, with the exception of the Entity dimension. They were trying to achieve some type of workflow/approvals by passing data from one plan type to another . . . all because they didn't know about Hyperion Planning's Approvals features. We cosolidated their app down to a single plan type and saved them a lot of maintenance and aggravation.
Typically, you break an app into multiple plan types due to one of two reasons:
1) You have significantly different data granularity between the two databases.
2) You have a materially different subject area between the two databases.
A good example of point #1 is workforce planning. WFP includes granular employee level data, while your typical P&L cube does not. If you already have a P&L type cube, and you want employee level detail, it makes sense to create a separate plan type.
Another example of point #1 might be Actuals data vs Plan data. I've had clients that wanted to analyze their Actuals data down to very granular GL accounts, however they planned at a much higher level in the account structure. When running Planning business rules, do you want your Essbase blocks dragging around all of those granular GL accounts that you'll never use as part of a Plan? No. So it makes sense to break it out into a different plan type.
An example for #2 might be P&L data vs. Balance Sheet data. While many people can and do put these accounts all into one plan type, it can sometimes be more efficient to break them out. (Thus reducing the overall block size of each database.)
One final point . . . you CAN add Workforce and CapEx to your existing plan types after they have been created/deployed. However adding additional plan types (other than Workforce or Capex) would require you to recreate the app.
Hope the above examples helps you to understand the concept and define your plan types...
Thanks

  • How to create dynamic calc account in multi-plan type application

    Hi expert,
I have a planning application with 3 plan types.
I created a calculation script which fixed on accounts in plan type 1 only and the calculation suppose to calculate a "dynamiccalc" account with a member formula attached. Everytime I run the script, it takes very long time and I found there are sessions at the back of essbase with "Process local xref/xwrite request" request to other plan types.
It does not has this kind of session if I change the account to "store".
Would like to check, is it possible to create a dynamic calc account to calculate for only 1 plan type in a multi-plan type application? Is there any special setting that I need to do to enable this? I already selected source plan type as Plan type 1 for my dynamic calc account. Please help!
    Many thanks!!
My HP application is on version 11.1.2.1.

    Hi Jake,
Thanks for pointing out the check box. Overlooked it and the checkbox was not unchecked, even I only wanted the account to exist in 1 of the plan type.
However, after I unchecked and refresh now, when I run the calc script, it still trigger process at the back to the other 2 plan types with "Process local xref/xwrite request" request. What else could I have missed?
I already added the "HSP_Nolink" UDA to all accounts in plan type 2 and plan type 3 and confirmed that there's no account with "Xref" member formula, I really don't know why it is trying to process local xref request. Can anyone help??
    Many thanks!!!

  • One BR to copy data in two plan type

Hi, I encountered this problem with the business rules.
In order to run the what-if scenario analysis, I would like to be able to copy the data from one version to another version using a business rule. However, currently I have two plan type within one planning application. And I have to use two business rules (with run-time prompt) to make the data copy. The run-time prompt for the 2 BRs are the same, for example, same entity, samel copy-from version, and same copy-to version.
I would like the users to just run one business rules (or maybe a sequence) with one set of RTPs to choose, and it allows them to copy both plan type. I have tried to use the sequence, but it seems that the sequence would require the 2 sets of RTPs to be input.
    Any advice is appreciated.
    THANKS

    Alp,
Yes. I have tried to use the global variables, with the BR sequence. However, since the two BRs are for two different plan type (essbase cubes), when I choose the merge variable option, it did merge the global variable, and also limit the database name selection to one. (I can not choose the "hide" for the database).
    Any other suggestion?
    Thanks

  • Delete Level 0 from one plan type only

    Hi
I'm using 10.1.3.6 and wanting to know if it is possible to delete Hyperion Planning metadata for just one plan type only? I have tried by entering a '1' against the plan type and using 'Delete Level 0' but the result was that it removed the code completely, even from the plan type that I wanted it to remain in.
    Your assistance is appreciated.
    Cheers

If you use the delete option it will delete the member totally.
What you would do is perform a standard metadata load and update the plan type properties, so put 1 or 0 against the plan types you want the member to be associated with, remember you are still are under the constraints of planning so what you are trying to do has to be valid in planning.
    Cheers

  • Benefits - Plan type for a particular infotype

In Benefits i want to see which plans are for a particular infotype
    for ex savings, insurance etc.
like 1010,1020 1030 are for medical, 2010 2020 for insurance
3030 3040 for saving - where this info is stored, that this plan type is for this infotype
Edited by: Manu on Feb 8, 2011 5:24 PM

    Hi,
For health plans, table is PA0167.
For insurance plans, table is PA0168.
For savings plans, table is PA0169.
For all of these, you can use SUBTY and PLTYP (should be the same).
You can also look at standard SAP report RPUBEN09 (transaction code HRBEN0009).
    Hope this helps.

  • Function types for Balance Sheet Planning missing in SEM-BPS 6.0

    Hi BPS experts,
After upgrading our BI-system from SEM 4.0 to SEM 6.0 (level 10) as part of the upgrade from BW 3.5 to BI 7.0 (level 15), the BPS function types for balance sheet planning are not available in the planning environment (Transaction code BPS0).
According to the SAP Library the balance sheet planning functions in SEM-BPS comprises of 6 standard function types - one of them is "Depreciation":
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_sem60/helpdata/en/0a/242537cedf2056e10000009b38f936/frameset.htm">help.sap.com -> Business Planning and Simulation (BW-BPS)</a>
Menu path: Business Planning Functions -> Functions for Balance Sheet Planning
In our existing SEM 4.0 we are using "Depreciation" and the functions based on this function type are of course short dumping when executed in our upgraded system (SEM 6.0) as the function type does not exist here.
Odd though - we do have the function type "Allocation" available in SEM 6.0, which should be delivered with SEM together with the Balance Sheet Planning function types (It is listed directly under "Business Planning Functions" in the SAP Library) .
I have tried to figure out whether we missed out on activating something during or after the system installation, but our basis consultant has not found anything in the installation guides related to this issue. Also I was wondering whether it could be a simple matter of activating some Business Content but without any luck.
Does anybody know why the Balance Sheet Function Types are not available in SEM-BPS 6.0?
    Kind regards,
    Lars

  • Order type for conversion of planned order

    Hi gurus,
I have configured 6 different order types for PPPI and not maintained any default order type for conversion of planned order into process order. But when I am trying to convert planned order into process order by branching out from MD04 to COR7 via the popup window, default order type PI01 gets selected which  cannot be changed. However, if I am converting the planned order into process order directly through COR7, then choice of order type is available.
Could you please tell me how to ensure choice of order type while branching from MD04 to COR7?
    Regards,
    Abhik

    Hi Datta
The order type is selected as below
First it will look for any scheduling profile is maintained. If so it will select default from the profile.
Next if the profile is not there it will look for any scheduler is assigned in material master. Through the scheduler it will select the profile and default order order type.
Next it will look in plant parameter. With conversion from plan order to prod order  order type
Next it will look in MRP group conversion order type,  if you have mainted it in Material master.
This is the sequence. Please check have to maintained any of these.
    Hope this is clear

  • Survey: Considerations for Using DITA

    Survey: Considerations for Using DITA
To help potential users decide whether to use DITA and how much effort doing so would involve, Text Structure Consulting, Inc. is conducting a survey to better understand the documentation projects for which DITA is appropriate. If you are using or considering DITA (or have done so), please take the time to share your experience by completing the survey. Partial and anonymous responses are welcome. You can send your response (embedded in an email message, in Microsoft Word, RTF, Adobe FrameMaker, or PDF) to [email protected]. If you prefer to answer by phone, you can write to the same address to schedule an interview.
Please forward the survey to other documentation professionals you know who might like to participate. If you are involved in multiple relevant projects or would like to add to an earlier response, feel free to complete the survey multiple times. Answers from different people working on the same project will gladly be received.
Since the survey is being distributed largely by forwarded email, statistically significant results are not expected. Nevertheless, survey responses should help existing users re-evaluate their projects and possibly learn about new tools, potential users evaluate the relevance of DITA, and consultants decide when to recommend it. If an interesting number of responses are received, the results will be summarized on www.txstruct.com and submitted for possible presentation at Balisage: The Markup Conference in early August, 2010 (see www.balisage.org). If at all possible, please respond by June 15 so that information can be prepared for the conference.
The survey questions are available at http://www.txstruct.com/dita.survey/questions.htm and are repeated here:
    Personal Identification
What is your name, affiliation, and name of your project?
What is your personal role in your project (e.g., author, editor, manager)?
Are you an end user, consultant, or tool vendor?
Is this a new survey response or a replacement for an earlier response?
Do you give permission for your responses to be quoted in a summary of the results of this survey? Do you want such quotations to be anonymous or attributed to you?
    Project Identification
What industry does your documentation represent?
What type of processing does your project involve (authoring, publishing, translating, indexing, analyzing, etc.)?
How many documents or pages do you process annually? How much of this material is new and how much revised?
How do you publish documents (paper, PDF, Web, CD, etc.)?
How many document tool users do you have?
How many people use your finished documents?
Are your documents translated to multiple languages or localized in any other form? Are all documents localized or only some? How many languages do you support?
Are your documents revised and republished?
    General software considerations
What documentation software does your project use:? Consider DITA-specific tools, XML tools, content management, word processing, desktop publishing, text editors, database management, project management, spreadsheets, and any other relevant tools.
Do you have software that enforces that writers follow your organization's conventions?
Do all groups within your organization use the same tools? All people in your group?
    Is authoring geographically distributed?
How are editing tasks assigned to individual writers or editors? For example, is a writer responsible for a document or document component through multiple revisions, or is an available writer assigned whenever a change is needed? Do writers need specific expertise, such as knowledge of a documented product, to maintain particular pieces of content?
Do you reuse all or parts or your documents? What size units do you reuse? In how many documents does a typical reusable component occur? What percentage of a typical document is comprised of reusable segments?
    DITA Considerations
For what types of documents (user manuals, online help, test plans, requirement specifications, journal articles, technical books, technical reports, interdepartmental memos, etc.)
    Does your project use DITA?
Have you considered using DITA but decided not to?
Have you never considered using DITA?
Do you use DITA-inspired naming of element and attribute types when you do not use DITA itself?
    Do you use DITA maps?
Do you specialize (modify) the DITA tagging scheme? How extensive are your changes? Which of the following do they involve:
Rename existing element and attribute types
Change the definitions of existing element and attribute types
Add new element and attribute types.
How many of the DITA element and attribute types do you use?
What were the primary factors in deciding whether to use DITA (for example, eliminates need to define a tagging scheme, availability of DITA open toolkit, a DITA deliverable is part of the project, wanted to use DITA- based software, recommended by consultant, addresses usability, effort required)?
Who are the primary decision makers on DITA issues (for example, customer, consultant, manager, tools group, writers)?
Do you transform your documents to or from DITA for different types of processing? Explain.
In what circumstances would you recommend that an organization consider DITA?
What have you found surprising about DITA?
How well have the effort, elapsed time, and cost of your solution corresponded to your expectations at the beginning of the project?
How well have the results corresponded to your expectations?
Given the experience you have gained, would you make the same DITA-related decisions now?
What version(s) of DITA do you use? Are you planning to use any others? When?
What changes to DITA or the Open Toolkit would you like to see?
What changes to your processes do you plan?
    Other comments
Please make any other relevant comments.

    Arnis,
Of course. Results will also be posted at www.txstruct.com.

  • ISO consideration for calculation of MRP per Safetystock adds more demand

    Hi Planning experts,
Internal Sales order consideration for aggregate demand which uses for Safetystock calculation based on MRP Planned percentage safety stock adds more demand in the warehouse.
We have ASCP Plan where X1 warehouse procures material from X2 Inventory organization through ISO created from Plan, after transfer Planned order releases from X2 and We have Safety stock calculated based on MRP percentage method in individual warehouses.
Since ISO considered for aggregated demand to safety stock, and acts as a individual demand for Plan adds of more demand to the plan and recommending additional Planned order supplies by ASCP engine.
Procurement rule: X2 --->X1through ISO recommended by Plan
    Steps to Reproduce :
Goto ISCP Responsibility > Advanced Supply CHain Planner >Workbench > Open Plan > query PWB data for X1 warehouse for any item which is procuring from X2 org for ex:Item: Y1 , verify the safety stock for this item in X1 and verify the ISO created from X2 through early Planned order releases from Plan, so there is additional demand equals to ISO qty observed, where ISO qty not required to be considered for aggregated demand used for MRP Planned percentage safety stock calculation for item:Y1.
Need to exclude ISO qty for MRP Planned safety stock calculation, please let us know how to exclude ISO for safety stock calculation, so additional supply will not be recommended by ASCP.
Please let me know, if u have any idea how to crack this issue.

can you check if this works - cos i think you need to use/SAPAPO/CHANGE_LOCTYPE

*of course, as a stand-alone planning solution it can be !!
and the connected executed system, which need not be ECC, is to give a well rounded solution
there are organizations that have APO alone and integrate to other execution systems, and there are companies that have implemented APO first and R3 later. there are companies that just need planning and dont have to execute it (transport planning and demand planning)*

I need to set up an expense form so that our consultant can "filter" by customer type, program type, and finally the purpose of the trip. For instance: the customer types are churches, schools, organizations. The program type would be dependent on the customer type selection from the first list. Some examples would be: fund raising, gift planning, surveys, and others. The purpose of the trip would be dependent on the program type selected from the second list. Some examples of trip purposes would be: presentation, design, prospecting. Further, the purpose of trip selection from the third drop-down box would then have to determine the values of other fields by expense type: such as commission, airfare, hotel. etc. I've tried pop-up menu but can't figure out how to "select" from the final popup list and have it populate a field for the purpose of the trip. I've tried to look at the JavaScript examples for dependent drop-down boxes, but can't find any that quite fit what I'm trying to accomplish. I am very new to all of this. No training in writing Javascripts - just trying to wing it. The form has to be very simple for our consultants to use, but also give our office the detail we need to process through the correct account numbers. I would appreciate any detailed step-by-step instructions - kind of a javascript for dummies type of info. HELP!

An AcroForm is the name given to the type of PDF form that you create in Acrobat. An XFA form is the type of form that you create in LiveCycle Designer. Although they are both PDF files, they are very different structurally and have significant;y different scripting models. So pay attention to the information on AcroForms and ignore anything about XFA. Be sure to get the sample PDF forms so you can look at how it works and where the scripts are placed.
What you want to do will require scripting, and if you don't have the experience and are unable to use the information in the tutorials to create what you want, you might consider getting someone who has experience do this for you. I'll often suggest code if I can do so quickly, but what you want requires more than a few minutes.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you get Error “Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed
Simple solution is to change the trust the trust level to FULL: <trust   level="[Full]"    originUrl="URL" />
In addition, you can modify the wss_mediumtrust.config and wss_minimaltrust.config file under the path “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\CONFIG”.

  • How to look for New start Called call for a Maintenance plan

    Hi,
I need to find out all calls for a maintenance plan of scheduling type- 'New Start' and Status- 'Called'. How to find this using tables.
For 'New Start' scheduling type probably table field and value is MHIS-TERMA = 'N'. There are different statuse in this table but I am not able to identify the status 'called'. Also what is the field MHIS-ZAEHL(Maintenance package number) for?

  • Any FM to calculate planned costs for a Maintenance plan

    Hi all,
Is there any FM to calculate planned costs for an Maintenance plan.
I can use report RISTRA30(IP31). but i need to use for multiple multiple Mplans and different time frames. using SUBMIT to this report and getting data will lead to performance in my actual report.
Please do provide any FM's or any other pointers for the same.
    warm regards,
    Sumanth

    Dear,
In maintenance plan you can speciefy - order type, task list type, task list group & counter.
when system automatically create service/maintenance order then system will determine plan cost, but for this you have to maintain planned price by t-code KP26.
And then you can see report by IP31
    REGARDS,

  • System creating procurement proposal for components having MRP type VB

    Hello All
I am having a FG under which there are two raw materials ROH1 & ROH2, MRP type for FG & ROH1 is PD & lot size EX, MRP type for ROH2 is VB & lot size HB. When am running Single-Item-Multilevel MRP for FG (using txn MD02) system is creating purchase requisition for ROH2 as well which shall not be the case as its MRP type is VB (Manual Planning).
Looking forward to your valuable inputs for resolving this issue.
    Regards,
    J K Tharwani

    Thanks for your inputs
There is stock of ROH2 above the reorder point still the system is generating purchase requisition after I run the MRP for FG, I would like to inform you that I am running MRP of the FG against Customer independent requirement (Sales Order), am using strategy 50(MTO) for FG.
I also checked the similar scenario with another FG but i kept strategy as 40(MTS) for it, & when am running the MRP against independent requirement of FG with 40 strategy am not getting any purchase requisition for ROH2 (having MRP type VB & lot size HB).
Can you please make me understand this behaviour of the systtem. Again looking forward to your valuable inputs.
    Regards,
    J K Tharwani
