Controlling fans with Core Center?

I feel such a fool, but I can't see any way of controlling fan speeds with MSI's Core Center?
The centre panel listss the CPU/NB temperature and fan speeds... if I click on the red arrow to the side of that, the extra panel that slides out simply gives me options on when the alarms should sound, based on either temperature or fan speed.
Am I meant to increase the fan speed by raising the minimum fan speed alarm threshold?  Not only is that a daft way of doing it, but it doesn't seem to have any effect...?

Why isn't there a fan control for the NB Fan? The stupid thing runs at 7000rpm (according to CoreCenter) I need to control it coz not only it makes so much noise but it is also damaged making the noise 10 times louder and I have no time to RMA the board.
Please....I need to control it manually or I'm going to shut it down completely (ripping the freakin thing of the board).......
While I dunno about your mbrd, the NB fans on a couple of MSI mbrds I've played with are just not really speed controllable.  With Speedfan, I can reduce the speed but below 90% or so, the fan starts to stall and then oscillates between nearly stopped and its max speed.  I have mine, on a K8N Neo2 Plat set to max speed of 95% and min of 90%, which reduces the noise a touch.
If it's getting noisy and looking like failing, email MSI tech support and tell 'em it's failing and you're experiencing hangs and reboots.  I had two mbrds I reported like this, which were behaving badly, and they sent me 3 new heatsink/fans.  Those new fans run a bit slower, max of ~6Krpm, and are smoother running.  If you do this, it's a good idea to register the mbrd with them and then in your email, give the serial no and your postal address.  I had my new fans in a week or so, with no hassle or telephone calls at all.

  • O/C with Core Center won't save.

I am trying to o/c with Core Center utility, and it works quite nicely.  However, the o/c session will not save. as soon a I restart, all setting are lost and I have to use Core Center to re- o/c.  Are there any BIOS updates to fix this?
    Thanks.

This is true...Core center...is crap.  Don't use it.  In fact, save yourself a few headaches by uninstalling corecenter altogether.  Dynamic overclocking utilities, overall, are faulty.  Corecenter is no different.

  • Overclocking with Core Center

I am a total noob to this overclocking stuff, but trying to learn more.
I have been using Core Control to oc my mobo. Currently I have an AMD 64 2800 that is running at FSB 245 and a cpu 2205 mhz.
I have not adjusted any voltages, do I need to? What is everyones opionion of Core Center? I have verified the cpu speed with MBM and CPU-Z and they confirm what Core Center says.
Any thoughs on this am I pushing the FSB up too high?
    System specs:
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum
    1 gig (2 512's) Crucial PC3200 ram
    AMD Athlon 64 2800 Newcastle
Nvidia 6800 OC By BFG tech
    480 W Antec PS

    Well, for a nood that's a nice OC. In order to determine if you need more voltage you need to check for stability. Get a free download of Prime95 and run the torture test on the second setting where it says lots of heat. Speaking of heat, that's more inportant than voltage. You want to check out what temps your are generating under fyll load(ie the Prime torture test. If your using stock cooling you can only go so high before heat is a problem. Adding voltage adds more heat as well. How hot is too hot? That's a question that everyone has their own answer for. I really don't like my system running much over 50c, so low 50's is where I back off. I'm sure it can go well into the fifties without gettig cooked, but I'm pretty cautious. Good luck.javascript:checklength(document.bbform);

  • Question, NB fan in Core Center

    Hi,
I have this question. In Core Center I have N/A in NB TEMP and 5443rpm in NB Fan Speed. Is this normal or there is something wrong?
I tried to find it in other topics but didnt find this answer.
    Thanx
    xereon

    Hi,
    its a K8N Neo2.
MSI should have tested this, meaning, I think its wrong somewhere in my system.
Anyone recognize this problem? I have looked in bios and dont really know all features in there, but with the users guide I have excluded some options.

  • Error with Core Center when switching users

I can't seem to get this worked out...
When ever I switch user accouts I get 2 error messages then a restart.  The 2 errors that I get are:
Core center failed to load hardware monitor
& no hardware monitor then an unvolintary reboot...
    Any suggestions??

only run CoreCenter with one user. The error message you get is the "2nd" CoreCenter failed to load when you're in 2nd user account, the "1st" CoreCenter is still running.

  • Core center=deh suck?

ive tried the version that cmae on my mb disc..and the newest version off msi's site, the disc version causes my pc to lock up(after i get the "your hardware isnt supported" and the newest off msi's site doesnt lock me up..but i get the same error?
is this? ive got a very popular mb..is it just a  program..or does it really not support my mb?

I would just say poo program.  I personally like speedfan to control my fans and see my temps.  Then I can use cpu-z to see how fast my CPU is running.
I messed with core center a bit when I first built my comp, but once I installed speedfan I never looked back.

  • Core Center

Anyone have trouble with core center starting? I get alot of "unable to load device driver" messages while windows starts and the computer retarts. Core Center is the problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled core center twice and I still get the problem.

    Ehhhhhh, false reading??? How?
You didn't set wrong clock in advanced settings???
You have to drop down 50%......... have no problems here and that's using Win 98.
It will take a few weeks for slow users, users to become used to interface, but you should have have this under control in a few days

  • PC Alert or Core Center???

is it possible to instal pc alert on K7N2 mobo? ther is no pc alert in live update for this mobo. core center is ugly and i dont understand it

I have never used PC alert, but have used both Core Center and Speed Fan.I guess it depends on your system which works best for you.I have seen post where users have alot of problems with Core Center. The only problem I had with CC was the temps were 4 deg lower then Bios stated.I  downloaded Speed fan and checked. It was "EXACTLY"the same as the Bios temps.
Believe it or not,I had Core Center and Speed Fan both loaded on PC and open at the same time on the desk top to compare the 2.They were 4 deg apart on system and CPU temps. So I removed CC and use Speed Fan now instead. On my board it even picks up the temps of the HDD's through smart feature. And I did not even turn it on in the Bios  I did turn it on to see if the temps would change but made no difference,so I disabled SMART in the Bios and Speed Fan still picks up HDD temps

  • Core Center Pro Problems w/MSI-9620v1 (K8N Master2-FAR)

-Running XP as shown in sig,
---My issue is Core Center running on two User accounts, causes instabilities or maybe just false readings, resulting in Alarm/Shut Down. Shutting down and then jumping to BIOS's H/W Monitor shows it's not even close to my alarm settings, let alone critical. With the system temporarily being at the tattoo shop while sending his MoBo out for repairs, the two User accounts must be accessed on a regular basis, so fast switching/switch users is the preferred method log logging on.
---Originally I had issues with Core Center showing in Taskbar on all accounts other than mine/Admin, though it was a running process. Added. When I thought it wasn't loading, I started it (clickity-click on icon) and it automatically would say CPUs were overheated.
---Is there a fix that can allow the Core Center to run on two profiles, or am I going to have to shut it down when switching to another profile and open it when the other profile logs in? That would be a bit of a hassle for the other user. He's computer illiterate & would be happier jumping on the computer, searching craig's list or whatever, and then getting off the computer without having to click this, click that and click that before he logs on/off.

I do not know many people that use CoreCenter.
I stopped using it myself in the beginning, as you can simply set the fans in the BIOS.
And the over-temp-shutdown is done by the BIOS automaticly so no reason to set in CC either.
    -Thanks Bas,
---I can't adjust anything but alarms in CC anyway, so I just use it for the advanced warning. Maybe it was a conflict between BIOS & CC that caused it, never checked to see if the settings were the same between the two User Profiles, but again the 2nd User profile is gone, so it won't be a problem for me any longer.
---So to me, your response sums it up. Wanted to do this first thing, but wanted to test them first and see if the fuss about OEM coolers was justified. Time to upgrade the CPU coolers; Well, at least the one for CPU2, nearest PCI-E1 (which is always 4°C-8°C higher than CPU1). I've notice temps have gone up 9°C on all (system, CPU1 & CPU2) since I first built the machine, but just wrote that off in thought as "the new BeQuiet! PSU is single fan where the Ultra was dual". Though they're clean to the eye (system is cleaned of all dust, what little there is due to intake filter) and they still show a steady 5900RPM, the CP1 fan shows intermittent (false I would imagine) report of 11k every great once in a while (not in BIOS though).
---In the good name of forum etiquette, I will search for recent cooler alternative topics and jump in. If none found, I will add to an old, unlocked thread... and if still none found, I will start anew.
    ---Thanks again,
    -SB-

  • Core Center Related

    I am getting:
    1st Line: Vcore 1.49V
    2nd Line: 2.91V
    3.3V under line 2
    3rd Line 5.03
    5V under line 3
    4th Line 12.08v
    12 under line 4
and the alarm goes off, I am very new and would be most thankful for any help.

First off if the computer is working and stable you don't want to change any of those. Second Core Center is the wrong place to change any of those values unl;ess it is for a specific test. I don't ever recommend making any changes with Core Center for any reason. In fact I don't recommend Core Center at all.
Best to restart with Stock values and if you are looking to play around ask first so that you knopw what changes to try and make and how to test it to see if any changes have the correct affects.
LOL Now I sound like I am talkking down to you. I know that but I can not know what level of knowledge you have. If what I said offends you please forgive me. I am just trying to help someone I don't know and over the internet to boot. That is never really that easy to do.

  • Core center problem at startup

I recently installed a new soundcard (Audigy2ZS) and it's been causing problems with core center i guess?  When ever windows starts up it says "Servive has not been started"  followed by "No Hardware Monitors".  But when I load Corecenter individually it's fine.  Any ideas?

its a common software conflict ... to solve
run msconfig ... go to the startup tab .. disable the sbdrvdet ... (i think its called that) ... to stop it loading ... i believe its to do with firwire .. so not really required ... msi software should then run ok

  • Core Center Causing reboot!!!!

I seem to be having an issue with Core Center, every time I load it my system crashes.  I have all the latest drivers installed, I even tried the Omega drivers for the video card.  A little help from anyone trying the same setup would be greatly appreciated:help:

Tried the website download, no good ran the memtest and found 1 stick of bad Mushkin ram, RMA'ing that.
I guess this will be the second bad board, if I don't install Core center she runs and posts fine, but once I reboot after install I can get to the welcome screen then it dies with a stop error0x0000008e and lists rushtop.sys which I found is in the Core Center file.
Maybew someone can give me a better idea of what I did wrong, I think I'm wearing out my XP install disc.

  • NX7600GT Diamond Plus and fan speed with Dual Core Center

I just got a NX 7600GT Diamond Plus for my HTPC. I noted that Riva Tuner and other utilities are not able to control the fan speed of the video card. The only way one can control the fan speed is via Dual Core Center and 3D Core Cell. The problem is that the default setting for fan speed on Dual Core Center is too high and clearly audible. How can I get Dual Core Center to start with user defined presets during windows start-up/boot-up ?
What I want to do is to put the fan into 'SILENT' mode automatically during Dual Core Center start-up. Any ideas / suggestions ?

Quote from: BOSSKILLER on 17-January-07, 00:44:11
well no need to edit manually, MSI provided everythink in easy way from core center.
select advanced mode, create your custom profile pickup your desired settings,(setup maximum FAN RPM via buttons) and save it to custom profile.
suggest you to read help section from program.
So the custom profile is automatically loaded every time DualCoreCenter starts up ? Maybe there is something wrong with my install of DCC, I cannot get it to load custom profiles automatically upon startup. I can save the changes to say "User Profile 1" but the profile active on startup always is the "default" profile ...

  • Dual Core Center Fan Speed Control

    Hi Everybody,
I have just bought a P35 Neo2 FR motherboard which is great but i have a question about the dual core center software.
I have installed the dual core center software and disabled 'CPU smart fan target' in the bios, but once i have set the CPU fan speed i can't save the settings as the button is greyed off.
    Can anybody help me please..

Use speedfan and dump dualcorecenter !
It's infamous, lotta people having troubels with the  program.
Search around on this forum and seee how many complaints there are about the  program.
    Including me.

  • REQUEST: GFX Card temp control for Core Center

    Hi !
I'm using both MSI Mainboard and GFX card, 875P Neo MP (using P4 3.2 GHz Prescott) and GF6800 Ultra AGP GFX card.
I got processor/ northbridge and GFX card watercooled.
I got one problem however, I currently am controlling the fans for the radiator with the fan control for the processor since I sometimes use processor more than GFX card, but I may have to change it to the GFX card fan controller since this also gets hottest some of the time...
I would love if there was possible to add the function to Core Center that would show the GFX card temperature, and then set the fan speed according to the greatest temperature of the GFX/CPU temperatures.
Or if it is easier, if there is a program that can do this allready made, a link to it would be nice
    Thanx
    Regards
    Flaps

There is no thing as system/case temp sensor on theese mobos.Only cpu & nv-chipset .
The temperature you see in corecenter as systemp is actually the nvidia chipset temperature .
Northbridge memory functions is taken over by the athlon 64 , thats why MSI finds it more reasonable to display
the nv-chip temp as systemp (remember that corecenter is an allround app for all msi mobos) .
Rest of the nb/sb functions are implemented as a single chip solution in the nvidia chipset chip.
So the traditional nb/sb solution is no longer existing.
The Athlon 64 and Athlon 64 FX each features its own integrated memory controller—single-channel for the Athlon 64 and dual-channel for the Athlon 64 FX. Instead of connecting to a traditional northbridge, these CPUs connect to a video card through a HyperTransport Graphics Tunnel. Data intended for components like PCI cards, disk drives, and USB peripherals is then routed through a HyperTransport I/O Hub, which is embedded in the core logic chip.
