Converting PDF to word using OCR

How do I convert a PDF file to Word format without the text changing on the Word document?

Hi IBEW45,
OCR is enabled by default when you convert a PDF to Word via the ExportPDF website. Just make sure that you're selecting the correct language for character recognition.
If you're converting to Word from within Reader, it is possible to disable OCR. If you're encountering issues where there are odd characters in the converted Word file, you may be running into font issues. A good troubleshooting technique is to disable OCR. Here are the instructions: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
Please let us know how it goes.
Best,
Sara

Why does all alphabets change to capital when converting pdf to word using Adobe Acrobat XI

Word 2013 uses its own pdf creator engine as far as I know. The step I performed were:
1 - In the save settings I told word to embed fonts (sorry for the language, I have the Italian client)
2 - Export from Word -> Save As -> .pdf adding also the table of contents/index
N.B. I cannot use PDF/A, and in any case it doesn't embed the font
A working solution is to use Acrobat XI to convert it or print with Adobe PDF printer, results:
    The problems are 2:
1 - It doesn't create any bookmark and doesn't create links from the table of images to the linked images
2 - Images, also with the preset "High Quality Printing" customized using "No compression", are really ugly and if you zoom a bit more than 100% they totally be s**t. It wasn't that way with PDF created by word.
In the end, or I find they way to open the pdf created by word and embedd the missing font, or I find a way to make Acrobat XI creating bookmarks from the word file.
    Suggestion?

  • Converting PDF to Word (Using Acorbat 8)

Any suggestions as to the best/most efficient way to process Acrobat files to Microsoft word with the least amount of work in re-formatting?
We currently have Acrobat 8 (Windows/OS-XP) and would like to know if there are any layered utilities to speed up the process. Line feed/tables and layouts are obvious problems areas.
Any suggestions anyone can provide is much appreciated.
    Thanks,

The formatting depends a lot on the tags that are embedded in the PDF. If created with PDF Maker they may be there for reasonable good layout reproduction. If not, you may lose all layout. I assume you have no access to the original DOC files for some reason - this is exactly why you do not delete them.
Sometimes when the save to DOC will not do the job very well, I have had success converting to HTML (different results with different HTML versions available in the Save As) and opening in WORD. Not the best route, but might be worth a try.
There are some 3rd party products that many have said work well.

  • Converting PDF to Word Using Automator?

I'm trying to convert a PFD file into a word processing Word Document. Don't know if this is the right place, but if anyone can tell me how to do it, or direct me a software program, I would appreciate it.
    Thank you

Can't find an Automator action. Might be there in some way though. I'm not too familiar with Applescript but there might be something there.
In the meantime, for my personal curiosity, from this page, I downloaded this App to see how it works. There are a couple apps listed on the first page.
    Good luck.

  • Trouble converting pdf to word document with ocr

I just tried converting a pdf to a word document. I've done this successfully before. I checked the box indicating I wanted character recognition in English. The conversion I received was only a picture of the pdf file. No OCR. What's wrong?

Thanks for your reply. My file is confidential, so I tried creating a similar file, 1 page long, that wasn't confidential. I found that Adobe easily converted the similar file using OCR.
My original confidential file is 20 pages long, with 5 columns on each page. I thought maybe its length was the problem, so I tried converting only one of the pages to Word and it worked with OCR recognition. There were many, many mistakes though.  Also, it wasn't possible to copy and paste the columns into a new document. When I did that, the data reorganized itself into a list format with irregular formatting--as if I were pasting in text format. It seems like the OCR process only partially worked.
I thought that maybe enough of the conversion was accurate for me to be able to work with it. when I looked at it closely I realized it wouldn't be possible.
Unlike me, my colleague has the full version of Adobe. When she returns tomorrow (Thurs.), I will see if she is able to change any of the writing on the original document to make it non-confidential. If she can, I will include a screenshot.

  • Converting pdf to Word 2003 in Acrobat 9 Pro

I am using Acrobat 9 Pro.  I want to convert pdfs to Word 2003.  I have followed the instructions to export to Word, but when I get to the dialog box that selects the conversion method, I choose Flowing, which is recommended, and click OK, and I get an error message that my PDF document may be corrupt.  This happens with every pdf, whether it is a form downloaded from the internet or a text document I have created myself.  If I try to convert to RTF instead, it makes the "conversion", but in doing so, it creates a file containing an image that is not editable -- it does not create a plain text, editable file.
Is the problem that I am using Word 2003?  Word 2003 is not on the list of file formats to which the pdf can be exported, but when I get to that screen, I choose Workshare PDF in Word (which I believe I read somewhere is the correct choice for conversion to Word 2003) as my selection and it gets me to the "conversion method" screen (which gets me to the corruption error message). Again, even if I choose rtf, I do not get an editable document.
    Any ideas???

    Something to try -
    Export the PDF to RTF.
Open the RTF file with Word Pad.
Save As (perhaps to a new filename -- 'something_bis.rtf')
Open this file with MS Word.
Not particularly surprising that the PDF you posted behaves poorly when 'worked' with Acrobat.
It is an output of Ghostscript.
Compounding the awkwardness of export is the fact that the PDF is not a Tagged PDF.
A significant raison d'etre for Tagged PDF is to support export of PDF content to a word processor application.
    Be well...

  • Error when I sign in to the Convert PDF to Word feature

When I sign in to the Convert PDF to Word feature, after I enter my password I get a message "An error occurred while signing in" and the feature locks up, giving the same message if I use the "convert" button, can anyone help with this.  Adobe Support sent 3 emails to reset my password all of which timed out before I could get to them. I have changed my password and it is still the same. Help please.

  • Can I convert PDF to PPT using adobe acrobat x standard? If so, how?

Can I convert PDF to PPT using adobe acrobat x standard? If so, how?

    Hi meganl52100253,
With Acrobat X, you can save to Word and Excel format by choosing File > Save As. But saving to PowerPoint wasn't introduced until Acrobat XI.
You're welcome to try Acrobat if you'd like. You can download a free 30-day trial from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html.

  • Having problems converting pdf to word. I'm not able to convert the file, what do I need to do?

having problems converting pdf to word. I'm not able to convert the file, what do I need to do?

    Hi prates77,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble converting files. Are you receiving the conversion error regardless of the file that you try to convert? Does the error occur whether you use the web interface, or convert via Reader? And an odd question: how many files do you have stored in your Acrobat.com account? We have seen reports of this error when there are a large number of files stored in the root folder of your Acrobat.com account.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Convert pdf to word doc?

How do I convert a pdf that is in preview to
    a word doc?
    Deb

I've found that some of the non-Adobe converters (and some of the free online converters) don't do such a good job as Acrobat Pro. If you want to try it out, you can download one of the free 30-day trial packages from Adobe that include Acrobat Pro X (such as Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design Standard) and try it out for yourself. It won't cost you a thing to use for 30-days and each app is fully functional.
Just my 2¢... and if you want to get the best final product. Adobe also has an online service - Adobe CreatePDF -that will convert PDF to Word.
    I think that it's free for a one-off.
    Good luck,
    Dr. Tea
