Cost roll

Hi,
In cost roll for a material, when the material picks up PO price the cost is flowing correctly to the material and surcharge cost components but when there is no PO it picks up planned price but the price goes to surcharge instead of material, what could be the reason? how can we make the cost to flow to material cost component instead of surcharge.
Thank you.

Hi,
The Mass edit program are meant to change the cost for specific item or range. Once you perform the mass edit why are you perfroming the cost roll up again?
The ideal Scenario is that you should do cost rollup. If you find that no the cost of materail / material overhead is incorrect and you need to change it with specific value. The you should use mass edit to perfrom the cost change.
Also if you do it vice versa (current case) the cost that is rolled up in cost roll up is and should mandatory update th cost that has been perviously updated by mass edit.

• Work Order Cost Rolling Up to WBS Element!

Hi everyone,
I created a Project A with WBS structure in PS (not statistical WBS structure). And then I assigned a work order to one of the WBS element A.0001. I did not post any cost to the WBS element directly. I only charged $1000 to the work order. Now when I use CN41N to generate the cost report and I found the $1000 in work order rolled up to WBS element A.0001 ($1000 showed at work order level and also WBS element level). Then I settled $1000 in the work order to a WBS element C.0001 in Project C. When I run CN41N again to see the cost in Project A, the $1000 still showed up at work order level, but it did not show up at WBS element level A.0001. I need the cost to roll up at WBS element level also, so this is a big problem for me.
I did several test. Assigned another work order to this WBS element A.0001 and charged another $1000 to the work order. Then I settled them to cost center directly instead of to WBS element. The $1000 showed up at the work order level and also at WBS element level (the cost rolled up from work order to the WBS element in that report). Then I tried to settle to GL account, the cost will roll up to WBS element too.
So I found only when I settle the cost to WBS element, the cost won't roll up. I think it might be a configuration problem. Does anyone know where I need to configure in order to let the cost roll up to the WBS element after I settle the Work order to a WBS elements?
Really appreciate your help!

• Cost-Roll take follow-up material upon discontinuation effective-out date ?

Dear Expert,
If we use discontinuation/follow-up material, during Cost-Roll (CK11N), SAP will take default cost from discontinued material even if follow-up material is effective.
How to make SAP take cost of follow-up material after/on effective-out date ?
Example :
Parent "A" contains component "B" qty 3, to be follow-up with component "C" upon discontinuation of "B" on effective-out dated 1st Nov'07, and like-wise to take std cost of "B' before 1st Nov'07 cost-roll.
Thus, when I roll cost in December, I hope SAP would calculate for std cost of A to include std cost of "C" (for cost-roll after 1st Nov'07).
Setting :
Material Master of "B" MRP4 view :
- Discontinuation Indicator = 1
- Effective-out date = 1st Nov'07
- Follow-up Material = "C"
BOM of Parent "A" :
- Component "B" indicate discontinuation group "A1"
- Add component "C" and indicate follow-up group "A1".
Thanks for your guidance !

Hello,
We are having the same issue: is a BOM for costing the only way to handle this ? Controlling dept. here fear they wouldn't be maintained as accurately as the production ones (and they are right). We were also thinking to set the phased out materials (B in your example) as cost irrelevant when you add to new material in the BOM...and start costing the father (A in your example) directly with the new component. I would appreciate a lot to hear other examples of dealing with this issue if anybody has.
Thanks a lot,

• Cost roll up Process...

Dear Experts,
Please clarify the below issue.
Split valuation and Material Ledger is active for my client.
During 2010, they have changed price control indicator to Standard for Raw material.
One SFG, they have in-house production and external procurement (Domestic and Import)
Example:
If they maintain three prices for SFG:
In house: Rs 1/-
Import: Rs 2/-
Domestic: Rs 1.50/-
Then, during the cost roll up process what price the system will consider for SFG.
Thanks in advance..

Hi,
I am not suer I fully understand your question but here is some text from sap.help.com
The system first calculates the costs for the materials with the lowest costing level and assigns them to cost components.
The materials in the next highest costing level (such as semifinished materials) are then costed. The costs for the materials costed first are rolled up and become part of the costs of goods sold in the next highest level.

• Cost roll up for financial reporting

Hi Experts,
I have requirement to have financial and management reporting with cost roll up.
As per my understanding, cost roll up happen based on cost center and profit center relationship.
But in my scenario, i have org unit defined as parent only but not maintained as cost center or profit center. (shown below)
In such case, will cost roll up function works??
Is org unit still available for reporting (without cost center and profit center)?
Thanks in advance
Govind Sharma

Hi Puru,
We dont need to use parent cost centers for cost collection, parent cost centers are only use for reporting (group or local reporting).
Business need all accounting have to be perrfomed at child level only- as shown below
Kindly let me know if you need more details on the same.
Thanks

• Cost Roll-Inventory Evaluation

Hi we recently did a cost roll after Go Live as we had some Problems with Master Data ,so after doing Cost roll the inventory gone up by $50K,so we need to do some adjustment to our inventory as our Stock Material Inventory Account Shows a increased amount of $50K when compared to before cost roll.
Could anyone please suggest What are the entries can be made so that it can reflect in the company Income Statement?
Regards,,,
Hartz

Hi,
There are 2 ways to handle this.
1. Use CKR1 and delete the wrong cost roll up and redo Ck11n with correct materials in BOM and routing.
2. Use MR21 and reduce the price of the material directly.
Above both solutions will reduce the stock value.

• Project System - Report Painter - Cost roll up issue

Hi,
We have an issue with the roll up of the costs in Report Painter report in Project Systems. The problem occurs only with those costs which have been settled to an internal order from a WBS element.
We are using the same cost elements to settle to the Cost Center and Internal order and roll up of the costs work fine for those settled to cost center. But the roll up does not happen for the costs settled to an internal order. Would appreciate if someone can guide on how to fix this issue.

• Cost component or cost roll-up issue

Hi
This is with reference to new issue that surfaced in costing recently. In the company I am working for cost component structure setup is like this : 1) raw material is considered as variable cost 2) activity as fixed and when it rolls-up cost of semifinished will have both fixed and variable since fixed and variable are active for semifinished and that's way its set up for finished goods.
The above set up was designed based upon existing business process. As per that process raw material is always procured from external vendor. Recently for the one of the new plant the process changed a bit i.e. raw material is manufactured. Now the manufactured and purchased raw material flows to same GL account. With the existing set up the system allowed to create product estimate and PREM cost for both manufactured and purchased raw material. But recently the system started giving an error saying that fixed cost field is not activated for raw material. The error makes sense but we don't understand how it worked before and what triggered this error now.
Did anybody come across this issue?
Thanks
Joseph

Hi,
May be for the material in new plant, you may have some fixed cost , through some activity type etc.. Please check.
You can always change your cost component in OKTZ to allow for fixed cost also. But we careful while doing this , as after this you wont be able to see the pased saved data in cost component view. As based on cost component strcuture SAP alling the cost value field in KEPH table and it fixed and variable are stored in two different vaue field in KEPH.

• Cost roll for multiple plants

Hi,
We have multiple plants where production is carried out. I need to make one plant as standard and standard costs in all other plants should reflect the same cost. One way to do that is to manually copy std cost of each material and paste in MM02 of other plant. However can I do these as a mass transaction?
Thanks
SM

HI
Its possible....
Special proc can be defined by PP guys or you can also define as below
1. Go to OMD9
2. Click on New entries: Enter your Plant = Plant 2 (receiver plant) "SP Pr Type" = Z1 and Proc Type = F;
3. Under Special Procurement Secrion
Enter U as special procurement and Plant 1 in the Plant Field (Transferring plant)
4. Save this entry, and in Mat Master of Plant 2, specify F as Proc Type and Z1 as Special proc key
5. Run CK11N in Plant 2... and release from CK24
6. Transfer Variant in Costing variant should allow Cross Plant transfer of Current Cost Estimate
But note that, this should be used only if Production is done in one Plant and Stock transferred to other plants.... IF each plant can manufacture, then the Std cost in other plants should be based on their own BOM + Routing + Overhead rates

• Standard Costing Re org- Mid month

Experts ,
We rolled annual cost and 10 days after we realized our annual cost roll is wrong which has wrong OH and LAB cost.
Now we have already thousands of production orders and most of them settled and variance calculated
what is the impact if I re org and roll the cost again?
what is the impact to COGS account
What if I wait 2 days and roll the cost in next period?
Please suggest some best practices
Thanks
Prasad

Hi Prasad
If the variance is settled for the production orders, you can't do anything
For production orders which are yet to be settled, the new cost WL be taken into consideration to calculate target costs during variance calculations
If any GR from production is posted after you reverse the std cost and before releasing new cost, variances won't be calculated. So ensure that before the cost is re-released no GR is posted
Also ensure no billing doc is released if you have copa active, before the std cost is released again
Also in copa costing key, choose period indicator as 4

• Material Cost Estimate with Qty Structure - Activity Cost

Hi All
While executing the Cost Roll up (CK11n) Im facing a peculiar problem . I have defined an activity for which the rates are also maintained in KP26 against the Basic UOM(eg for 1000 activity 10Rs is the variable price mentioned) . When Im taking the min lot size say 1 for the costing run the quantity appearing against this activity is appearing in the lower UOM (taking actual gms but the value for this activity is appearing in rupees only calculating from activity price x this figure). This is making the whole activity cost on very higher side .whereas If I execute with the same factors but with big lotsize say 1000 the value for the activity is coming absolutely ok .
Pls confirm me how to put a check on the value of activity or uom of activity to evaluate the standard costing with minimum lower size also
Best Regards

• Standard costing in Process order for external operation

Hi SAP - PP gurus,
Need your expert suggestion on the current scenario. We are having a sequence of operations in a process order. One specific operation is used to trigger subcontracting activity for completion of some services.
while calculating the total planned & actual costs & variance costs for the process order as a whole , we are not getting the desired results.
The planned cost is not getting calculated or variance is not populated correctly. what might be the problem or is there any alternate solution to approaching this scenario.

I do not have an 'expert' response for you - but I can share my experience and maybe both of us will learn the 'truth' before too long.
In the external processing - indicator in the control key for a phase/operation in a recipe - when it is set, the system requires that either a Purchasing Information Record or an Outline Agreement # and Outline Agreement line item # be entered. If I enter a PIR, the data from the PIR is loaded into the external op fully. This results in a proper cost roll-up and proper processing.
If I use an Outline Agreement + Item # - the system expects me to copy all this detailed information into the remaining General Data fields (that were populated automatically when I used the PIR). I don't have to enter anything except the OA + Item numbers. But if I do not enter a price - then I, like you, get less than acceptable pricing because this operation is NOT priced (I do get a warning - this leads me to believe that SAP will not be populating these fields - the warning is to remind ME to do it --- I want the system to do it since I am specifying the OA + item numbers).
I have searched help and now have posted an OSS note for the answer to this: The PIR does what I want (it has to be created prior to application of course), but because External processing is merely a service and can't be specified by Material # and it only works per Material Group # - then I only have the chance to enter one price per Material Group - and that is insufficient in my situation (I have about 50 materials per each group and each item can have a different price). So I have to use OAs - and not having them able to trigger auto copying into the external op phase - this causes a lot of extra work and risk of data inaccuracy (mis-keying the price, etc.). There does not seem to be a fix - so I think the manual application in the ext op will be your recourse.
Let me know if you have learned more.
