Crazy spam!

I have had ongoing spam for several days now. Many new "friends" seem to be trying to sell me pills. Julio, Caridog, Renee, Page, Arnold, Melinda, Tommy (the list goes on and on) have somehow found my personal/business email.
It is annoying and time consuming to forward the spam to icloud. I have also tried to use the abuse@ domain name forwarding and labeled all as junk mail.
How do these idiots get my email to begin with?  I am extremely protective of my icloud account.  I have had this account way back to the .mac days and this is the first time I have ever had this issue.
Please HELP! ... any suggestions greatly appreciated.
iMac 24": OX10.6.8

All it take is one unscrupulous web site or a careless email recipient with your address in a contact list to get it out. Labeling it junk will help, but it may take some time for the system to catch up. However, most of those spammers change send accounts frequently.
You might wish to consider a new email address.

  • Stop spams "sent from" my own email address

    Hello guys,
I really need you help with stoping spams sent from my own email address. First, I thought my account had been hacked, then I quickly realized it was just a modified header after a little research online. But still, it doesn't mean there is nothing to worry about. I use mountain lion for home and icloud as my primary email account (which was spamed). I sniffed around apple mail settings for 20 mins- specially under "junk mail" and "rules"- but I couldn't find a way to stop these crazy spams without listing my own email account as junk. I don't want to list mylist on junk list, because it will make me such a loser... Somebody please help me to configure my apple mail so it will seperate spams from the emails I send to myself. Is it even possible, or do I need to use alternatives? Please help. Thank you in advance.

Thank you, Barney. I uploaded a screenshot. I don't know how to show names in the header. The name spammed by the junk mail is "katie", while my own name is "XX song". But the address is same for the different sender names. How is it possible? Is there a way to filter them by sender names, but not the email address?

  • Spam emails sent out from my mac/hotmail

Ok. I never had this problem in my 15 years as an email user.
Two weeks ago, spam mails have been sent out from my hotmail account to my contacts. I have changed my password, did the malware scan and removed anything it was flagged.
It has been quiet since then. However, as I logged on today, I noticed 41 mails in my junk folder, labeled as 'Mail System Error - Returned Mail' with the content on some kind of Wal-Mart contest.
Also, I have found one email with the following content:(I have replaced the part where my email was with '(my email was here)'

The way many viruses work on a Windows machine is once it's on there it will mine the address book for e-mail addresses and send out copies of itself using addresses that it finds. So there's nothing you can do on your end. Unless you find all those spam e-mails in your Sent box they weren't sent by you but by somebody with a Windows machine who received an e-mail from you and got a virus.
The address "mta02.xtra.co.nz" shows it was sent from New Zealand. Are you in New Zealand?

  • Tracker-extract spam in system log

    Hi,
I recently moved from Ubuntu to Arch. On both distribution I use Gnome 3. I took my home directory from Ubuntu to Arch.
Now I get a couple of Gnome warnings and errors in my system log, especially from the tracker-extract. For every file, which was failed indexing, I get a warning like this:
gnome-session[1488]: (tracker-extract:1620): Tracker-WARNING **: Call to gst_discoverer_discover_uri() failed: Ihrer Installation von GStreamer fehlt ein Plugin.
gnome-session[1488]: (tracker-extract:1620): Tracker-WARNING **: Task for 'file:///home/JayDoe/Documents/somefile.xcf' finished with error: Could not get any metadata for uri: 'file:///home/JayDoe/Documents/somefile.xcf' and mime:'image/x-xcf'
... and the same for different filetypes. For a few of them, I'm sure that there's no gstreamer-plugin for it, since they're from special software and I only keep it as a part of a project, I don't want to work with them on this machine.
So after checking, that I have gstreamer and gstreamer0.10-plugins installed, I try to use the tracker-preferences, to ignore these file types. In the preferences gui, I added '*.xcf' in the to ignore list. But the warning still appears.
How can I reduce the log-level of the tracker? I think, wrong indexed files can appear quite often and I dont want the tracker to spam my system log, so I may can miss some important messages.. For every boot it's about 80-90 lines of messages from the tracker...
Hope you can help me, thanks
    bye

This drives me crazy, too. There are many file types on my computer that make these messages appear (mdb, raw, xcf, ...).
In addition there is on e-book on my HD whis causes tracker to write tons (approx. 300 lines) of text into the journal (it looks like a SQL dump): http://pastebin.com/wQ6hkEY1
I have not read the book yet but i regularly can read one or two pages of it when I examine the journal :-/
I've tried to find some information on the Gnome site, but Tracker seems to be undocumented at all.
Here goes a wild idea: File bugs!
Tracker has plethora of documentation, both in the gnome wiki ( https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/Tracker … rch=Titles ) and installed as API documentation (which you can see in devhelp)
Both the attempt to extract unrecognized formats and the insertion error in the pastebin (we don't dump stuff to stderr just because) are bugs. But hey, we perhaps wanted to drive you crazy, it drives me crazy too to stumble upon otherwise valid bugs in random forums.

  • Crazy characters appearing in Thunderbird email headers, etc.

After a recent Update, I started noticing crazy characters (looking like a Domino) in my email headers. Can someone take a looks and tell me what's happening?

Is it only your junk mail? ͏
Spam often contains weird characters in mail subjects to try and avoid detection by spam tools, Viagra is easy to see. VڽIڽAڽGڽ Rڽ Aڽ is much more difficult for a machine to see it as what it is. The human eye however quickly ignores the odd characters and zooms in on what it knows.

  • Why am I getting 30 to 40 spam emails daily since switching to firefox Didn"t happen in IE8

Since making firefox my default browser, I am bombarded daily with spam email. This didn't happen when IE8 was my default browser. It's driving me crazy.

I can't think of a reason for you to see more spam in Firefox than in IE. Are you using the same email service, same Inbox?
If you make IE your default browser (you can always start Firefox using its shortcut without making it the default browser), does the spam stop?

  • Help! Just swapped from Blackberry to iPhone & drowning in spam

Just got 3g iPhone and set up my O2 pop3 account for email and getting crazy amount of spam - any advice gratefully received.
    Thanks - Graeme

Advice? Get another email provider... you shouldn't have to deal with that. I had the same problem before I got the iPhone and I switched to GMail for personal stuff... I now get maybe a few spams/month. I would guess that Yahoo is just as good, although I have little experience with them. Both work well with the iPhone.

  • Random spam accounts adding me on Skype

So I noticed that I had a notification on my skype so I checked it out and it happened to be this random account called Hotbaby101. I responded to it and found out it was a woman this is what she reposnded "Hey I'm out of collage now and I can have some free time" she then sent me a link to some dating site and said "Just click on the link sign up and then we'll be connected". I kept asking her thing but she would never answer them. She also said that she found me on this Skype search app. I tried calling the acc but it would always fail. I then blocked the acc. closed my computer and then the next I opened and saw I had 3 new notfications from random people in their 20s just like the other acc. Does anyone know how I can stop this from happening is driving me crazy?
    Example Convorsation:

Me: I said who are you?
Random acc: Just click the link below and I can show you my body
    Me:Ummmm...

Make sure your privacy settings are set to your contacts only, otherwise you open yourself up to random spam chats/calls from strangers or bots.  The only thing this won't stop is  unwanted contact requests.  I've never really had any real problems for the reasons I list here:

  • "Out of Area" phone spam, from ... guess who?

From about 10PM last night, continuously through to 11AM this morning, I've been relentlessly spammed by some "Out of Area" caller.
Normally I refuse to answer such calls, for exactly the same reasons I use BT's Anonymous Caller Reject service, but this one was so persistent it was driving me insane, so I finally answered the call.
    Guess who the caller was.
    BT.
Specifically, it was the "BT Text" service, spamming me with a text message someone had sent to my non-SMS landline, for some silly reason (a mistake, presumably). This automated system also provided me with information on how to stop this spam, which I have apparently been opted in to, but the website it directed me to is apparently for sale (fixedtext.com).
    This raises several fundamental questions:
Why was I automatically opted in to an extremely harassing service I don't want, without my consent?
Why is this unwanted service so annoyingly persistent, thus constituting harassment? Surely it should just call once, then give up.
Why is one of BT's own services "Out of Area", thus circumventing call-screening?
Why can't BT treat "Out of Area" calls the same as "Anonymous Calls", for the purpose of automatic rejection?
Who are (or rather were) "fixedtext.com", and why is BT passing my private details onto a third party without my consent, in contravention of the Data Protection Act?
The nature of this call is such that, even now, I'm not convinced it was genuine, and that I may have been the intended victim of a vishing attack (e.g. a Premium Rate scam). If BT must insist on spamming people with these calls, could they at least make the attempt to clearly and promptly identify that this is a BT service, not use or reference third parties or parked domains as identification, and ensure that the call complies with Ofcom regulations on caller identification.
    Details:
    Caller: BT (unproven)
    Number: Unavailable (Out of Area)
    Support numbers quoted: 0845 602 1111 and  0800 587 5252
    Support Website quoted: www,fixedtext.com (unavailable)
Until a trusted party at BT can confirm this is indeed a genuine call, I have no choice but to treat it as suspicious, and as such any further calls of this nature will be reported to Ofcom. If any third parties received my personal details without my consent, in connection with this service, then I will also be raising a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office. Mostly though, I would just like to know why I was opted in to this spam, and why the calling system refuses to properly identify itself using CLI?

I was reading about BT's text messaging service somewhere else on the internet and also on this forum. Unfortunately, having to register to make a comment I have now lost the link.
However, a similar problem with BT has also  been driving us crazy this evening. An allegeged text messaging service from BT, which is accessible to all and sundry, scammers et al., allegedly, calling from 0845 602 1111 has been ringing every 15 minutes from about 9pm.
WE DO NOT HAVE A BT PHONE, and we do not have a text phone. NOR IS OUR PHONE USED EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES,OUR MAIN PHONE IS A MOBILE.
    BT, PLEASE STOP HARASSING PEOPLE!!!!
I have reserarched this number on the net, and people have lodged complaints on several web-sites trying to find ways of stopping these incessant nuisance calls from this same number. These complaints seem to date back some years, so why is it still happening???

  • Yesterday, as today's deadline for filing tax returns approached, I was paralyzed by the inability to create new IRS PDF forms and to retrieve archived ones from a year ago. My computer went crazy. 24 hours later, I am still paralyzed. Can you help?

My computer went crazy yesterday on two occasions involving PDF documents. One dealt with attachments to an email from a bona fide corporation. The other dealt with IRS PDF forms & schedules needed for today's submission.
As both dealt with PDF and had nothing else in common, I suspected my PC had a virus. When I asked a local store technician, he agreed. I turned to Norton, which protects my PC from viruses, and after a few hours of really thorough searching, the computer was found to have no viruses.
Before describing what I call "crazy" computer behavior, you need to know that I have long had IE8 as my default browser but a few weeks ago switched to Mozilla Firefox because IE8 had beome incompatible with some websites from which I get information.
When I received the email from AT&T email service and clicked the first of four icons representing attachments, there was figuratively an explosion on my monitor: a series of new tabs, each called New Tab, burst onto the monitor--but no text or picture. The new tabs appeared faster than I coul kill them. I finally decided just to shut down the computer, hoping they would not reappear when I restarted. I was wrong. After 2 repeats, I decided to forget about the attachments and asked the sender to send them to me by regular mail.
That was no solution for my IRS PDFs. I wanted to complete filling in the various forms and schedules that I had begun months ago so that I could mail them today to the IRS (without having to copy them all in ink). When I tried to open the first one, BOOM. The same thing happened: the blizzard of New Tabs atop blank pages; my IRS form or schedule did not show up. Did the same shutdown/restart routine with the same results.
When I looked at the list of current forms that had to be completed, I noticed something very strange: the icons that began the listing of the documents' names were replaced one by one by Mozilla icons. When I moused over them, they said Firefox HTML. Why?
Starting the day today, I had the same experience. What's more, when I started to retrieve 2012 IRS PDFs from a year ago, the same New Tab tabs appeared and had to be killed, and Mozilla icons replaced whatever icon was there before.
Assuming that the problem arose with Adobe Reader's reading of the PDFs, I contacted Adobe but got no helpful phone number because PDFs are a free service and was directed to use this Forum to get help.
What do I have to do to (a) read and use PDFs in the normal way and (b) remove the Mozilla icon from those that have appeared on icon documents. If Mozilla is the source of the problem, shall I go back to IE8? (In my 80s, I want eventually to replace my old computer but for the time being I must continue using it. It will not take an IE9. Anther possible default browser would be Google Chrome, but I have unfavorable impressions of it because of its intrusiveness, loading my PC with stuff I do not need.
    Can you help?

The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu.

  • Crazy to install CS2 on Quad Core 64 bit Windows 7 notebook?

I've been a video producer/director/editor since 1970 and have witnessed most all the progress and insanity of the "corporate wars" to dominate video production and later, video editing.  I no longer see any reason to differentiate between still photography, video production, editing, web authoring, print production, graphics, CGI, CAD etc...ad nauseum. My dream has long been to have one very powerful laptop that could do most everything that a creative person desired on location anywhere in the world.
My new notebook is an ASUS Quad Core G71GX with 6 GB RAM - an Nvidia Geoforce GTX 260M - and 2 - 500 GB, 7200 rpm hard drives - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. These days I shoot most video using a Canon SX1 IS at 1080 30p and the files are playing back beautifully on the 1920x1400 display at full frame rate. So for me that covers the basics. I will be upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate shortly. Does anyone have issues/questions about the platform?
As to the software . . . I have been using Adobe stuff for 20 years or so.but did not get into their video editing products until Premiere 6.5. Than I jumped in with both feet and became a beta tester for the CS2 video collection. I still have my complimentary Premiere Pro 2.0 and it still works on my older XP Pro notebooks.
But now we are here in 2010 and all the major PC platforms are running 64 bit Operating Systems and I just figure that I should hold out for a true 64 bit Master Collection [which many people call CS5]. In the meantime I decided to install my CS2 Creative Suite and Premiere Pro 2.0 just so I could have the benefit of these programs while I am waiting for the 64 bit to release.
I purchased my CS2 back in 2005 as a download and last night made the attempt to install it onto the ASUS. As expected the serial number did not work so I called Adobe Installation support and got started after they prompted me for the "challenge" code. When I entered it the installation began nicely UNTIL the first folder [CS_2.0_UE_Ret_D1] finished loading and UP POPPED a window saying "Please insert CD #2" with only an OK button. Well, I didn't have any CDs because the suite was delivered as a download way back when and there seems to be no way to get to Disk 2 folder.
I finally decided to Quit the install when up pops a window that says [paraphrasing]. Your Photoshop program on Disc 1 has been verified and so try again to install. I said OK and up pops a window with all the various programs and the option to select Install. I selected each one [except GoLive because I now have Dreamweaver CS4] and proceeded. I sort of kluged my way through the transition from D1 to D2 to D3 to D4 folders and by all indications had a successfully installed, registered and activated CS2 suite on the ASUS notebook. Restarted the machine.
Opened Photoshop and up comes an error message "Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit" "OK", which I pressed and Photoshop closed. Checked the other CS2 programs and none of them would open.
I would appreciate any pointers on how to get CS2 Creative Suite to install properly since Adobe Tech Support says such installation help is out of date and recommended this forum.
BTW: I run Videography Lab and am the "seminal author of videography". OCT 1972 American Cinematographer. I have a different take on the meaning of videography than most folks. After 38 years of research and contemplation I believe "Videography means 'I know to write' or conversely 'writing my knowing'" The platform that I've been talking about is the technology tool that enables such communication in "the Age of Videography" [Miller Freeman Publishing - 1996].
Call me crazy and than help me get this sorted out
Bob Kiger - [url removed by host]
PS: Does anyone beside me expect a sudden and dramatic shootout between Final Cut Studio & Adobe Creative Suite soon?

    Hi Michael--
Upon continued research we found your statement "CS 2 isn't compatible with Windows 7 32-bit no less 64-bit." not quite true. We grant you that, in it's raw state, Windows 7 will not install, activate, register etc. CS2 programs. That's been the Adobe position for quite a while.
Now that we have Windows 7 in hand and can play we found that if you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate edition you can acquire for $89.95 and download/install in an hour or so "Windows Virtual PC" and "Windows XP Mode".[Note: This feature is not available on Home editions].
We purchased the platform and once it is installed we had a "Windows XP platform" on our Windows 7 machine. From that point forward the installation of CS2 and many other of our old favorite programs was a snap. We've opened and worked with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign etc. with no problems.
And, by the way, Premiere Pro 2.0 intalled easily on Windows 7. We're testing it now with some sub-1080p projects.
As to the long nagging problem of Adobe Installer not recognizing the downloaded CS2 CAB files during installation, we worked around by just saying OK when the installer asked for the next disc and immediately clicked on the desired disc in a seperate exlorer window which contained all the download files.
So that's the workaround for us. Now we wait to see who wins the race to enchant users with 64 bit editing and imaging suites.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Error in Spam / saint update TP_STEP_FAILURE and DDIC_ACTIVATION

    Dear All,
While updating spam/ saint update I am facing  this error
    Details of Error:
The installation was stopped, since an error occurred during the phase
DDIC_ACTIVATION, which the Add-On Installation Tool is unable to resolve
    without your input.
After you have corrected the cause of the error, continue with the
import by choosing Continue in the queue display.
The following details help you to analyze the problem:
        -   Error in phase: DDIC_ACTIVATION
        -   Reason for error: TP_STEP_FAILURE
        -   Return code: 0008
        -   Error message:  tp step A, return code
            0008
    Notes on phase DDIC_ACTIVATION
In this phase the system activates the imported Data Dictionary objects.
This phase may terminate for several reasons:
o   TP_INTERFACE_FAILURE: The system was unable to call the tp
         interface.
o   TP_FAILURE: The system was unable to execute the tp program. For
more information, see the SLOG or ALOG log file.
o   TP_STEP_FAILURE: The system was unable to perform the tp step DDIC
activation successfully. To see the cause of the problem in the
        activation log, choose Logs.
If you import two or more OCS packages in one installation queue,
and activate the Data Dictionary objects in the incorrect sequence,
this can cause errors. In this case, the activation errors disappear
if you repeat the activation run. To do this, choose Continue.
The Add-On Installation Tool requires that the Change and Transport
System (CTS) be configured correctly. For more detailed information,
read the online documentation available from Help -> SAP Library ->
