Create Archive splits one video into 3 parts -- why?

I'm finding that Final Cut Pro X can import video from my tape-based Canon GL2 with no problem for the most part. But when I choose Create Archive instead of importing, for a one-hour miniDV tape, the Archive typically shows up as two or three separate clips. This happens even with a one-hour video I just shot last week, as one continuous video. When I import the archive, I'm stuck with three separate clips that, when assembled in a project timeline, have an audible glitch where the breaks are. Anybody know what might be causing this, and what I can do about it (other than not use the Create Archive function)?

  • Music app splitting one podcast into two - why?

I have a 4th gen iPod Touch running iOS 6.1.6 - newest available.  I listen to podcasts through the standard Music app.  For some reason I have one podcast that shows up as two on that app - even though they have the same name.  AND in iTunes on my Mac it is a SINGLE podcast that contains all of the episodes - including the six that are split out on the iPod.  No change in the stream location; no change in the podcast name; nothing different between the meta fields when you do "get info" on the podcasts.  In that separate podcast on the iPod, there are 6 podcasts (un-played) from 2012.  Everything in the "main" podcast that is un-played is 2013 or newer.
I done a lot of googling and can find nothing on split podcasts other than when the actual podcast changed its name or the stream location.  This is not the case here.
    Any ideas???

  • Split long video into small 15 second clips

Hi, I have a long video (7 minutes) I would like to upload to Instagram. Since they only takes 15 second clip, I would like to split my video into small clips. How can do it easily with iMovie?
    Thanks,
    fireman

First, you may not need to spit the event clips at all. You can select short bits of the long event clip and drag it into your project as you wish.
Having said that, there are good reasons to split event clips. For example, the 75 minute movie may contain many logical events that you wish to split out by date. In this case, iMovie 11 can do it, but I would not recommend it. It is a slow process and is prone to error.
I would recomment that you use a free app called MPEG Streamclip from Squared Five (google it).
To use MPEG Streamclip, drag your long clip into MPEG Streamclip.
Then, move the cursor to the "in" point of the clip, and press i. Move the cursor to the "Out" point of the clip, and press o. Then, FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME (or FILE/EXPORT TO DV if it is DV). Then repeat until you have done this for all clips you want.
If you know the date and or time of the footage, name your file
    clip-yyyy-mm-dd hh;mm;ss
(let mpeg streamclip provide the extension). This will provide metadata that iMovie will use to put the event in the right year and month.
When finished splitting your long clip, import into iMovie by using FILE/IMPORT...MOVIE

  • Help... Why did the dvd to ipod converter split one movie into 2 files?

I have a 80GB Video Ipod and I'm confused on why when I ripped a dvd using the dvd to ipod converter for mac program it split the dvd into 2 files.. Is there a way I can merge the files together so it is 1 file?.. I would apprciate any help or suggestions...
    G3 Ibook.. 15, 40 and 80GB Video Ipods... G4 PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Go to their support forum and ask-you will get a better answer from people who actually use the program.
It's not a paid for program is it?
A totally free program that rips and converts DVD's for Macs can be found here: http://handbrake.m0k.org/
Why would anyone on a Mac pay for a DVD rip program?

  • Splitting single video into multiple files - workflow improvements?

I regularly need to split a single video into multiple separate files that are used by other programs.  I'm using Premiere Pro CS4 for a number of reasons including the ability to easily and accurately select a scene by individual frames, native audio and video effects/filters, and the ability to import and export various video types.  I'm open to using other tools, but I haven't yet found one that is even close to Premiere Pro when it comes to accurately selecting split points.
I'm not a Premiere Pro expert.  I have been doing this for about four months and have read many resources (books, forum posts, help guides) to refine the workflow I'm currently using.  My question:  does anyone know any improvements that might save me time/keystrokes.
    Current workflow:
    I've bound F8 to File > Export > Media
    Import video file
    Open in source monitor
Set In and Out points for scene in source monitor
Ctrl-drag from source monitor to Project Panel (creates a subclip)
    Repeat 3 and 4 for all scenes/subclips
Select all subclips from Project Panel and drag to timeline
Set work area bar to first subclip in timeline by the following four keystrokes:  Home, Alt-[, PageDown, Alt-]
Type F8 (File > Export > Media shortcut).  Type output file name, click OK and the first subclip is put in the AME queue
For the remaining subclips, type: Alt-[, PageDown, Alt-], F8, output file name, OK and repeat until done
    Any thoughts/ideas on workflow improvements?
    Thank you!

    Thank you Hunt.
For the sake of brevity, I didn't include all of the details about the various aspects of the projects.
Early on I was doing what you suggested and yes, it is a little quicker.  I learned (painfully) a couple of months later that I sometimes have to go back and adjust the clips and this method (trim to timeline with no subclips) resulted in quite a bit of duplicate effort (to reobtain start/stop points).  I've since learned that managing the "scenes" as subclips in topical bins allows me to go back and make adjustments, long after I've totally forgotten about the project content, without a lot of unnecessary reworking.

  • Splitting large video into smaller segments

Is there a way to split a large iMovie Captured event into smaller segments/clips.
Am attempting to convert my home videos ( Analog: 8mm) into iMovie clips.
Used a ADS Pyro that converts my composite signal ( RCA: Yellow+Red/White) to a digital signal via Firewire using the iMovie capture. However, this creates a single 2 hour file that takes approx 26Gb because there is now DV information.
I would like to (a) Break this into smaller segments/clips then (b) Change the date on these.

Download MPEG Streamclip, which is free, from Squared 5.
Drag your long clip into MPEG Streamclip.
To split your video, move the playhead to your desired in point and type i. Then move the playhead to your desired out point and type o. Then File/Export to DV.

  • ICal splits one event into two, how do I fix this?

I have one weekly repeating event entered.  For the first two weeks it shows up like normal, as one event.  But two weeks later it splits that one event into two different side-by-side bubbles.  I did not alter the event.  Does any one else have this problem?  How can I fix this?

That is because you are sharing an Apple ID.
    On both phones go to:
Settings > Facetime > turn off iPhone Cellular Calls
I would also suggest you check here to make sure your husbands number is not checked on your phone or yours on his:
    Settings > Messages > Send & Receive
    Settings > Facetime
Otherwise you will get each others Messages and FaceTime calls.
I recommend that you each get your own Apple IDs if for nothing else than iCloud, iMessage & FaceTime.

  • PRE9: How to split one clip into two (or more) clips?

I can't believe this is so hard to do... But HOW?

You don't necessarily need to separate the file into individual clips.  When you do a cut on the timeline, this is a virtual cut, leaving the original file untouched but determining what will appear in the output.  You can split the clip into multiple pieces, delete the bits you don't want, add transitions, insert new bits, whatever you want, all without affecting the original file in any way.  Once you're happy, you output a new file using the Share options, and you get a new video file, with your original files still untouched.
If you want to split your file into multiple individual files, you can use the sliders on the time scale, and export (Share) using the Share Work Area Only checkbox.  If you're doing this for purposes of reassembly, it would be better to save the individual clips in as lossless a format as possible, the default AVI format taking considerably more space but not losing quality.  Hint: the sliders can be positioned to the time marker using Alt-[ and Alt-].  Once you've done this, note that your original file will still be there, untouched.
There is also VideoRedo Plus, a cheap program which gives frame-accurate selection and allows rapid subdivision of a piece of footage.  It doesn't re-render as PE9 would (this is where loss of image quality creeps in using compressed formats such as MPEG), copying the original frames.  You can then reassemble the bits using your video editor.

  • How to split one video in 2 screens?

    Hello,
I have been trying to do this for a while but I can't find the way. Hopefully someone here will know how.
I want to be able to split one movie in 2 screens. The movie is panoramic format (1440 x 480). I have done it in the past but using DVD players and a syncronizer, which is complicated and expensive.
Using a computer, what tipically happens is that, for instance using QT, it asks you to use one or another screen, but it won't play in both.
An example of what I mean can be found here (first image on the top):
    http://www.digitaltigers.com/dual-monitors.shtml
This is easy with a picture, I would like to do the same with video. I have contacted that company and they advised me to talk to Apple saying is probably an issue with the video card.
I heard there is video cards for PC that will do it, does anyone knows of a card for the Mac?
    Thanks
    Mac Pro 2.66   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Also, ideally I would like to connect 2 video
projectors to the computer and run the video in 2
    screens.
If the projectors have VGA inputs you can use the Matrox DualHead2Go
    <http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/products/dh2go/home.php>
It will make the two projectors appear to the computer as one wide screen projector. You connect it to the computer's DVI port with a DVI to VGA adapter.
If the projectors are set to 1024 x 768, the computer will see a 2048 x 768 display.

  • Split one row into multiple columns

    Hi,
Data in one CLOB column in a table storing with delimiter, ##~~##. Ex. ##~~##abc##~~##defgh##~~##ijklm##~~##nopqr (data starts with delimiter). Please help me to split the data into multiple rows like below and it should be in the same order.
    abc
    defgh
    ijklm
    nopqr
    I am using Oracle 11g.
    Thanks.

Thanks Hoek for your response. Before posting my question in the forum, I tried similar query. It is working with one character as delimiter.
with test as (select 'ABC,DEF,GHI,JKL,MNO' str from dual )
    select regexp_substr (str, '[^,]+', 1, rownum) split
    from test
    connect by level <= length (regexp_replace (str, '[^,]+')) + 1;
Above query is giving correct result by fetching 5 rows. I have modified the query like below...
with test as (select 'ABC,,,DEF,,,GHI,,,JKL,,,MNO' str from dual )
    select regexp_substr (str, '[^,,,]+', 1, rownum) split
    from test
    connect by level <= length (regexp_replace (str, '[^,,,]+')) + 1;
Above query resulting 13 rows and last 8 rows are nulls. Number of null rows are increasing, if I increase number of characters in delimiter. Could you please tell me how to avoid those null rows.
    Thanks.

  • How to split one monitor into two, differently configured desktops

    Hello,
I have a 27" iMac. I would like to split the screen into two differently configured desktops or monitors. Apps like TwoUp or Divy don't exactly do this. I'll explain it with an example:
Suppose I'm working on a document and I need to open many folders to retrieve files. One common problem is that opened folders overlap each other and sometimes they overlap with the document I'm working on, or they go underneath the document. I would like to split the screen vertically in, say, two virtual, independent desktops/monitors, like this:
    - one window/space on one side (say, on the left) of the screen would contain the document  from top to bottom, with no dock bar on the bottom
    - the other window/space (right) would behave as a regular, full desktop, with the entire dock on the bottom
In this way, if I need to navigate to find a file to use in the document, I would move the cursor to the right. The Finder would work only in this window/space, thus windows or other applications would never overlap or clutter the left side of the screen. Drag-and-drop from right to left should be possible.
One way to imagine it is as if the 16x9 monitor were comprised by two vertical, 8x9 independent monitors side by side, each with its own configuration.
Is this possible? Can anyone recommend an application or type of setup?
    Thank you,
    -celso

    Looking for something like this?
You can tell Display Maid to save the positions of your open windows across many apps and later restore those positions when things become a mess. With Display Maid you don’t have to restore windows one at a time, or even one app at a time. Display Maid restores all saved window positions across all apps with one command. It will also restore window positions automatically when it detects a workspace change.

  • How to split one page into different frames in ADF?

    Hi,
Can any one please guide me how to split a jspx into different frames.
i.e., left frame contains <af:panelSideBar> which contains multiple <af:commandMenuItem> s. And whenver we click on the one <af:commandMenuItem>, it has to show the corresponing page inside center frame in this page itself. Is it possible in ADF? Which component we need to use?
Can anyone guide me on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Suresh Kethireddy

You can use a combination of the ADF Faces 10.1.3 components like:
    af:panelPage
    af:panelSideBar
    af:panelHorizontal
    af:panelGroup
to organize the screen layout, but it is not the interactive splitter that the 11g product provides.
You can all all the 10.1.3 ADF Faces Components here:
