Create dataguard 11gR2 uisng Grid Control fails

Hello !
I'm testing to use data guard using grid control. I have a fresh standard database created with dbca
When i start the gui i come to the Add Standby Database: Database Location screen
I add the information required and select next, then I get:
Internal Error has occurred. Check the log file for details.
I'm trying io locate the log files, but not sure where they are. Where shall I look ?
I have also tested to create a standby db using rman and it worked fine.
Appreciate your comments.
Thanks
Magnus

Hi!
The logfiles for OMS are, if you use GC11g:
$MIDDLEWARE_HOME/<Instance_Name>/user_projects/domains/EMGC_DOMAIN/servers/EMGC_OMS1/sysman/log
or something similiar
If you using GC 10, than the logfiles are: $oms_ORACLE_HOME/sysman/log

Has anyone been able to create a data guard of 10g R2 (10.2.0.3 dbs) using Grid Control 10gR3?
My creation stopped on cloning the standby db step. And i had to finish it manually but i'm just wondering if it has worked for anyone else?

  • Physical database creation using Grid Control fail

I have tried several times to create a physical standby using Grid Control. Everytime, the job failed at the step "DBClone -> Destination Preparation". The log file indicated the following error message:
PLS-00553: character set name is not recognized.
When I check the spfile, I find that an extra word "PuTTY" was inserted into the spfile as shown in the following spfile, therefore, the instance cannot be started. In addition, everytime when issuing the command "cat spfilermslag.ora", the word "PuTTY" will automatically appear in the command line after the "cat spfilermslag.ora" command.
    $ cat spfilermslag.ora
    gé ú&PuTTYrmslag.__db_cache_size=150994944
    rmslag.__large_pool_size=4194304
    rmslag.__shared_pool_size=71303168
    *.undo_tablespace='UNDOTBS1'
    *.user_dump_dest='/u01/app/oracle/admin/rmslag/udump'
    [oracle@wppnode2 dbs]$ PuTTY
What is going on here? How can I fix the problem?
    Thanks!

You might just have to do it the old fashioned way. At least it will be a good learning experience.

  • Installing of Grid Control failed at Repository Creation Assistant

I have a "clean" Windows Server 2003 machine (formatted hard disk, installed the OS and applied all service pack and critical system updates). I was trying to install Oracle Grid Control 10.1 for Windows.
Everything went OK until it reached the "Configuration Assistants" step. The "Enterprise Manager Repository Creation Assistant" step was failed. I looked into the log file and saw messages like this:
    -------------------- (start) -------------------------
"'stty' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file."
    Getting temporary tablespace from database...
Could not connect to SYS/(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=76.44.2.169)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=emrep.44.2.169))): ORA-12541: TNS:no listener (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach)
    Repository Creation Failed
    Repository Creation Assistant Failed
    -------------------- (end) -------------------------
This got me puzzled. What problem could this be?
I realized that I was using DHCP, and I am now in the process of installing a loopback network adapter. But is there any other area I should check too?

This ierror mean listener is not running ,start the listener and try again.

  • Bapi to create/change MM/SD grid control data (AFS)

    Hi experts,
I'm looking for a way to create and change MM/SD grid control data by bapi (or by other way that can be implemented in ABAP).
I mean the data that you can see when you go to trx J3AB, enter a material and push the buttons: "MM grid control data" or "SD grid control data"
    Thank you in advance.

I found it by myself, there's the FM J_3A_CREA_GRCD_MASTER_GRID, inside the J3AGRI idoc FM J_4A_IDOC_INPUT_J3AGRI.

  • Creating standby database through Grid Control.

    Hi,
I want to know if source database which we term as primary database goes down during Db creation process when given option of "Perform a live backup of primary database" during Add standby wizard in Grid Control. Please let me know if people have already tested it in their environments.
I appreciate you all for looking into my forum.
    Regards,
    Gaurav

No, one of the options for performing this task is to create from a Live db.
A couple of things to note here:
    You must be using spfile
If you are not using the default port of 1521 then you must also have the local_listener parm set
I recommend using the "db_unique_name" option to make it easier to manager in OEM (for the target name)
    Hope this helps,
    Landon

  • How to create oracle services using grid control

    Hi All,
I have oracle grid control account my grid control version is 10.2.0.4.0.Can any one please let me know the tab from which I can create Oracle services.
I know we can create oracle services using DBCA also. When I'm trying to do that way it is giving below error.
    dbca
    DISPLAY not set.
Set DISPLAY environment variable, then re-run.
How to set DISPLAY environment variable.
    Thanks,
    Rafi.

Normally, you set DISPLAY to an IP address with the suffix : and 0.0: the IP address must match a machine able to display X11 windows.
    Example with Linux bash shell:
export DISPLAY=192.168.0.1:0.0What is your OS version ? What is your shell (bash, ksh, sh, csh) ? How do you connect to the UNIX host ?

  • Database patched 10.2.0.3-10.2.0.4 Error on Grid Control :Failed to connect

HI my patch was laready on 10.2.0.4 and just upgraded by databse from 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4
though database and listener and agent are up and running at the OS
but on Grid Control I'm getting the error under
    'Agent'
Failed to connect to database instance: ORA-01034: ORACLE not available.
    Any Idea guys
    Thanks
    Gagan

I would check whether Oracle was still available. With the current state of Oracle software you never know.
If Oracle was available I would try to use sqlplus to connect to the database using the dbsnmp account.
If that works, it is SR time.
As you don't specify any O/S information, it is difficult to tell you more, especially as some releases of Oracle on some processors are flaky, and Oracle can not always reproduce the problems in house.

  • GRID CONTROL FAILS at Web Cache Configuration Assistant

    Hi,
I am installing Grid Control 10.2.0.1 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 4. I run into this error at Web Cache Configuration Assistant :
    Failed in smi manipulation().
    The most likely causes are:
    1. TaskMaster cannot read configuration files, such as $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/conf/opmn.xml, and $ORACLE_HOME/dcm/dcm.conf, etc.
    2. Cannot connect to the repository.
    Resolution:
    1. Make sure that the system configuration files are present and the permission for those files are set correctly.
    2. If you are using Infrastructure Database, please make sure that the database is up and running, and the listener for the database is running. Also check the connectivity of the machine to the Database Repository. Please refer to the exception thrown by the Repository API for resolution. The Repository API may be misconfigured.

  • Installing 10g and Grid control together on Windows Server 2003

    Hi all,
I've been having some trouble installing both the Grid Control and Oracle 10g together on a Windows Server 2003 box.
Here's the steps I've followed (if im stepping away from the norm, please tell me.. i REALLY need to do this properly without any hacks.. right now im on a test box.. but soon enough I have to do it in a live production environment and I really need a clean install).
I had a copy of Oracle 9i installed - my databases are pretty small.. 1.5Gb at most and I have been advised to just do an export and import them back in later.. which is fine by me..
I uninstalled Oracle 9i, making sure to check all the environment variables were clear and the registry settings were gone.
I ran the grid control setup
    Set Home name = Ora10gGC
    Set home path = C:\Oracle\Ora10gGC
I selected Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Using a New database 10.1.3.0
I set my passwords, and then set the global database name as emrep (the default)
All the optional configuration assistants ran successfull
Once this was all done and the install was finished, I restarted the server
Then I inserted the Oracle 10g cd
    I ran 10g setup
    Click Advanced installation
    Set home name = Ora10g
    Set home path = C:\Oracle\Ora10g
    I selected Enterprise edition
    Selected General purpose database
    I got the following message:
The ORACLE_HOME environment variable is current set. This will prevent proper use of Multiple Oracle Homes and since it is not required for any Oracle products to function, it will be unset in your environment.
I set the global database name on my starter database to STARTER, I selected Use Grid Control for Database Management and set my paths and passwords, then I clicked install.
The install worked up till it tried to create the starter database, then it failed with an ORA-12560 error.
I checked the environment variables and it seems that ORACLE_HOME wasn't unset after all. I deleted it from my environment variables and restarted the server, but I still get the ORA-12560 error when i try to create a new database.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to install these 2 products together properly.. Thanks!

I suggest you to read Metalink Note:344537.1 "Installing EM 10g Grid Control Fails to Start the TNSListener Due to Environment Settings"
Additionaly could you post the fragment from alert.log and listener.log files, so more diagnostic information can be provided on this issue.

  • Creation of reports from Grid control 12c

    Hi All,
I wish to create some reports from Grid Control and push to mail especially looking for Daily Health Check report like Tablespace,Locks,Alertlog file errors,File systems,Archivelog files sync information in to one report.
    Thanks in advance.

The native reporting application i.e. Information Publisher does not support such a feature, but in you are using BI Publisher integrated with EM, then BIP allows you to control when to email reports. for example, on completion, on failure, etc ..
