Creating a restricted variable

Hi,
I have a Version characteristic that has the following values assigned to it:
100
B00
H01
F00
F01
F02
F03
FL1
T00
I would like to create a variable that will be restricted to selection values F00 - F03 only. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

  • How to Create a Selection Variable for restricting the querry output

    Hi Gurus,
I have created a query in query designer on a Multiprovider and the output of the query is a Formula in a structure which calculates a % value, the client is looking for entering a range of number during the query selection screen and the output should be restricted to the given selection values.
Can any one tell me how i should create a selection variable that would take the input from the user during the query selection screen and then restrict the output to that value which user specified.
Is there a need to write any customer exit or is there any alternative way to make the query work as the requirement is.
I hope this explains my problem but if any questions please let me know so that i can give u specific information.
    Thanks,
    Nisha.

    Hi Nisha,
Firstly, in order to restrict the query output by a key figure value, you will need to create a condition on that key figure. This is done in the query deisgner. Now when you are creating the condition you can also use user entry variables (formula variables with user entry) to let the users enter the value that they want to see.
    See here for more details:

Also I need to create a node variable on profit center characteristic it without fetching it into Free Characteristics Restriction, Can I do this? How ?

Hi Ingo - Thanks for your valuable input.
After putting much efforts - here is result. I fixed my hierarchy , means now there is no hierarchy variable , And i just create a node variable by putting it into Bex characterstic  restriction. - But it looks like this in Universe.

I am working on BI 7. I want to know ""How to put restriction/variable in BI 7.0 ? Is there any settings required? I am putting some variables in BI 7.0 while making some query""
    amit shetye.

    Hi Amith,
just create a new query  like a previous  versions how u create..  and  now  select particular charecterstic  in the  left side window itself.. and drill down it.. and create  a variable..  and assign all the properties to that variable.. now  drag that particular variable.. in to the Rows  or filters..
for Restrictions...  put any charecterstics into Free charecterstics.. and right clcik that and select  Restriction. now you need to give  the  values.. based on that  it will  RESTRICT THE VALUES..

  • Steps to create a Restricted Key Figure

    Hi,
I am trying to create a  BEx Query and want to create a Restricted Key Figure.
    I am using BEx 7.x.
Please help me with steps to create a Restricted Key FIgure.
    Thnaks and Regards,
    Shreyas Shah

    Hi Shreyas,
Please find the step by step to create a restricted key figures.
Procedure for Defining a new restricted key figure:
    1. In the InfoProvider screen area, select the Key Figures entry and choose New Restricted Key Figure from the context menu (secondary mouse button).
If a restricted key figure has already been defined for this InfoProvider, you can also select the Restricted Key Figures entry and then choose New Restricted Key Figure from the context menu.
The entry New Restricted Key Figure is inserted and the properties for the restricted key figure are displayed in the Properties screen area.
    2. Select the New Restricted Key Figure entry and choose Edit from the context menu (secondary mouse button).
The Change Restricted Key Figure dialog box appears.
You can also call the Change Restricted Key Figure dialog box from the Properties screen area by choosing the Edit pushbutton.
You make the basic settings on the General tab page.
The text field, in which you can enter a description of the restricted key figure, is found in the upper part of the screen.
You can use text variables in the description (see Using Text Variables).
Next to that, you can enter a technical name in the Technical Name field.
Underneath the text field, to the left of the Detail View area, the directory of all objects available in the InfoProvider is displayed. The empty field for defining the restricted key figure (Details of the Selection) is on the right-hand side of the screen.
    3. Using drag and drop, choose a key figure from the InfoProvider and restrict it by selecting one or more characteristic values. See Restricting Characteristics.
You can also use variables instead of characteristic values. However, note that you cannot use the following variable types in restricted key figures for technical reasons:
Variables with the process type Replacement with Query (see also Replacement Path: Replacement with Querys)
Variables that represent a precalculated value set (see also Details)
You can use these variable types to restrict characteristics in the rows, columns, or in the filter.
    4. Make any necessary settings for the properties of the restricted key figure on the other tab pages. See Selection/Formula Propertiess.
    5. Choose OK. The new restricted key figure is defined for the InfoProvider.
Let me know if this helps.
    Thanks
    Sachin

  • Error:      Restrict variable to single value

    Hi experts,
for key figure planning, I created a planning profile group, which contains 3 planning profiles. But when choosing the Planing Profile Group, I get the error message as follows:
Error:      Restrict variable 4MKTHI01 () (area 4CRM0001 (CRM Marketing Plan Values)) to single value
How can I fix the error? I appreciate any kind of help!
    Thanks in advance,
    Thorsten

    Hello Ravi,
I really appreciate that you try to help me - but can you please be explain more in detail what to do?
What I did - and what did not work out:
In TX BPS0, I doubleclicked on Planning Area 4CRM0001, I clicked on the tab "Variables" and I doubleclicked on the relevant variable 4MKTHI01 of the Type Hierarchy. By doing so, I get the message "Hierarchy CRMMKTROOT does not exist". I also do not have the possibility to edit the variable by right-clicking; also the edit button is disabled.
Like described above: When I click on "Set Variables" and chose the variable, I am also not able to do any settings. So how?
    Thanks,
    Thorsten

  • Restricting Variable values selectively

How to restrict values of Variable while creating query. For Ex: I am creating variable for Fiscal Year and it has a value starting from 2000 to 2050.
So in my report it will show all the values, I would like to restrict it for say between 2002 and 2015.
    Thanks
    Raghu

    Hi Raghu,
I hope u have already created a Variable for FISC Year, just check in the properties on the Variable ,in the details TAB,whether the TAB Variable Represents is Multiple Single values or Selection.
If not Create one more variable with the above settings and in the Default values in the Propewrties TAB you can specify the range as 2005 to 2012.
With this the report will run for the range u have given, incase if you want to change the value range then in the POP-UP screen ,change the values, say 2005 to 2015 and run the report.
There are other ways too ,but hope this meets ur Requirement.

  • Changing restricted variables on the layout.......

    Hi All,
I'm not sure if this is a bug or just the way BPS works, but here's the issue.
We've created user-defined variable for 'Version', and in the definition we made it restricted by the user at the time of executing the layout.
So when you first execute the layout, it does what it should and prompts you in a pop-up window to select a particular version from what the user is offered based on his user-defined values.
The problem is, when you exit the layout and come back in, or even when you're in the existing layout you don't have the chance to bring up that pop-up window again to change your selection.
If you click on the 'Other Combination' icon in the layout, the version appears, but it's protected and cannot be changed.
Instead, you have to always go to the 'Set Variable' tool to change the the version you want to view.
The 'Set variable' tool is not very user friendly, especially when you have a big list of variables to choose from, and it also forces the user to know various technical information to be able to select thr right variable for his needs.
How can we get the variable pop-up to come up to change the variable vaalue, without having to go to 'Set Variable'?
    Thanks

    Hi Ehab,
Unfortunately that is the way BPS works. It keeps the variable value in a buffer that basically consists of two tables upc_var_cha_sel and upc_var_cha_act. Check them out.
I created a solution that automatically clears these tables of the variable value and gives the user a fresh popup box whenever they access the planning folder.
The following is a thread I posted earlier with the sample code.
Re: Change variable value for a user
This code is part of an exit function in the planning scenario and can be executed by choosing the function attributes under Global Planning Functions in UPSPM and selecting either 'Function as Pushbuttton', 'Execute Function when Saving' or as I prefer, 'Execute Function when Starting field'.
This works like a charm. Contact me if you need more details.

  • Error while creating a Characteristic Variable with Replacement Path

    Hi all,
I am trying to create the Characteristic Variable ZVLOWDT (Low Date') with Replacement Path on characteristic ZSTARTDT (Start Date) and it gives the error 'Source to replace 'Low Date' is not defined.
I have created a User Entry Variable VAR_DATE (Start Date) with interval like '01/01/2009 - 01/15/2009'  and  Customer Exit variable ZVCPDAY (does some calculation based on the input of VAR_DATE) on the same ZSTARTDT characteristic. I want to get the 01/01/2009 (lower range date of the selection) into this Characteristic Variable ZVLOWDT. We are in BI 7.0 and the following are it's properties:
    General Tab:
    Description: Low Date
    Technical Name: ZVLOWDT
    Type of Variable: Characteristic Value
    Processing by: Replacement Path
    Reference Characteristic: ZSTARTDT Start Date
    Details Tab:
    Variable Represents : Single value
    Variable is: Mandatory
Variable is Ready for Input : unchecked
    Replacement Path Tab: Replacement Rule
    Replace Variable with : Variable
    Variable : VAR_DATE
    Replace with : KEY
Why I am getting this error, PLEASE ?
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

    Hi Khaja,
We could derive a Variable value from another Variable with out Customer Exit. There is a white paper.
First have the User Entry Variable (ZV_X) and it accepts the date range like '01/01/2009 - 01/31/2009'. Next create the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path for which source variable will be ZV_X and we could get the 'FROM Date' (01/01/2009) from the selection (ZV_X) into it (ZV_Y).
While creating the Characteristic variable (ZV_Y) of Replacement Path, I didn't find my newly created ZV_X variable in the list of available variables under 'Variable' header in 'Replacement Path' tab and it is causing the error  'Source to replace variable ZV_Y is not defined'. How could I create the Characteristic variable of Replacement Path, PLEASE ?
    Thanks,
    Venkat.

  • Creating WIM ECC variables

    Hi,
We have installed CIM 9.0.1 and UCCE 9.0, we are able to pass the default activity_id and customer_name to ICM in the user.cim.activity.id and user.wim.customer.name.
But we want to pass the customer email which is available in CONTACT_POINT_DATA attribute
we have created a ecc variable in ICM called Call.user.cim.contact.point.data and have created a call variable in CIM called CONTACT_POINT_DATA. but we are not able to obtain this value in the ICM script.
Please suggest the correct procedure to create ecc variables for WIM 9.0.1.
    Thanks
    Kishore B

    HI Dilip,
This is fixed in CIM 9.0.2 where you can tag custom attributes to call variables and map them to icm ecc variable in the queue config

  • Create current date variable at universe level

       Hi Everyone
I have created report regarding to daily car sales. However there is records registered for further months, 2015 December for instance.
Actually they are error records, but I can't delete them since data transfer is realizing automatically and updates hourly.
That is why I have decided to use prompt for report: date is less or equal to current date. But couldn't find way how to create current date variable.
    Please help with this.
    Regards...

    Yes.
Create an object called Today as:
    cast(convert(char(10),getdate(),23) as datetime)
Note that it will not parse because it does not reference a table. Don't associate it with a table just to get it parsing as you will then have that table in every query that uses the Today object, whether you want it or not!
It will work fine when you use it in your query. In your example, create a condition of Ship Date Less Than Or Equal To Today where Ship Date and Today are the names of the two objects. This will then translate into SQL as:
    WHERE orders.ship_date <= cast(convert(char(10),getdate(),23) as datetime)
This will parse because the table orders is in the statement.
    I hope that is clear.
    Regards,
    Mark

  • How to create a global variable in forms 6i

How to create a global variable in forms 6i

:GLOBAL.my_var := 15; Well, this statement is not correct! Global variables
stores a character string of up to 255 characters in
length. Thus, valid statement for Khurram example
    is:
    :GLOBAL.my_var := TO_CHAR(15);
    or
    :GLOBAL.my_var := '15';
But numeric values are implicitly converted by oracle so there's nothing in fact wrong with the statement...
    :GLOBAL.my_var := 15;

  • Error creating Customer Exit variable, please help

    Hi Experts,
This is the scenario, I need to obtain the convertion rate from the table TCURR in order to convert several currencies to USD, so I created a Customer Exit variable that gets the Period and based on that obtains the conversion rate for the last day of the given month from TCURR, the problem is when I created the Formula Variable to get the value from the Customer exit variable I got the following error:
'ZVARREGEXIT' ALREADY EXISTS; SELECT A DIFFERENT NAME.
But in not using that name anywhere on my variables creation, Im doing something wrong? How can I check wheres is that variable being used.
Ideas, comments are always welcome and appreciated.
    Regards.

    Hi Ed,
Open Admin Workbench (RSA1) and choose Transport Connection --> Object Types --> Query Elements --> Variable --> Select Objects. Find the variable of interest and transfer it back to the main screen, then right-click and choose 'Display Description'. That will show you a "where used" list of queries, workbooks, etc.
Next, you can use the previous technique to open one of the queries, find the variable in the query, and determine which InfoObject it is associated with.
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Saurabh

    Use global variables.
Compare them with a constant Boolean like F or T.
The result is true or false and then you can use it in a Cae-Loop.

    Hi Indraneel,
Try to look for the patch level you are using for SAP GUI, it should be level 14. If lesser than this apply and check. And always disable VB macros.
