Creation of new users

Hi,
We've had the ContentDB for a few months now, and the process we have been following while adding new users to OCDB groups is laborious. We log into oid as an admin, and create a user, fill out email, timezone, username, password, etc.. We have found that we cannot add these user to a group until the users have logged into OCDB first. Once we log in as the user, we can then , as admins re-login, then search for them in OCDB and add them to groups.
This is a really time consuming process, when we get requests for multiple users to be added to specific groups. We now have a request for around 1000 users to be added to the system. I'm estimating it will take around two weeks to do it the way we have done it in the past.
THey are also asking to be synched up to Active directory in this new request. So we will have 1000 new users, which I need to add to a group in OCDB. In this scenario, I can't log in for them, so I can then log in as an admin to add them to a group.
Is anyone out there knowledgeable in this area, where you can tell me we aren't doing it right? This seems like we have it wrong, when we have to log in as the user we are trying to administer before we can add them to a group.
We are planning on trying to sync up Active Directory where the DB admin will not know the password of the user. If the user does in fact have to log into OCDB before an admin can assign groups, is it possible to use S2S authentication (since this method doesn't require a user's password)?
With this number of users, I'd like to write a program to do the bulk of the work. Can't write that program, if I can't log in as the user (maybe we can use S2S though?).... or PLEASE tell me we are doing things wrong!
Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
I will suggest to synchronize OID with AD. Once you have any synchronization profile created, any new user created in AD will get populated in OID. You do not have to create that user manually in OID.
At the time of ContentDB installation, contentdb will create provisioning profile with OID. That run 5 minute default time. So every five minute contentdb will provision any new user from OID to Contentdb. Once you have that user in contentdb you will be able to add them in groups.
I hope this will help.

Jigar

  • Replicate in the Master controller and creation of new user with cisco prime infrastructure 2.1.

    Hello!!
We have multiple controllers Cisco WLC 5508 (all running software version 7.6.120.0) distributed in various buildings and a controller in other control building (also Cisco WLC 7.6.120.0 5508) operating as Master and backup of the buildings's controllers .
Each building is radiated such an SSID that is used as a validation of the user connected to that SSID web portal each controller (in the WLAN, Security -> Layer 3 -> Web Policy), using the local database to validate the user.
The problem is that the local database of users is not being replicated between controllers buildings and the Master controller, so if you drop the controller of a building, the Master controller begins to provide service to the buildings access points, but the equivalent radiated SSID cannot able to validate users.
I need know if it's possible through Cisco Prime Infrastruture 2.1, first replicate in the Master controller on the basis of existing controllers buildings each local data and, second, that the creation of new users are automatically perform both the controllers like to the Master .
    Thanks.

As noted earlier, it is not advisable to use the root user to log in for normal use. New users and groups can be created by navigating to Administration > Users, Roles & AAA as shown in the preceding figures. It would help to chalk out what are the various levels at which you want to distribute the users, and to create those roles first. It doesn’t really matter whether you create users or groups first. New users can be easily added by going to Administration > Users, Roles & AAA > Users > Add Users > Select “Add Users” from the drop-down on the right side. Once you get into the add user workflow, fill in the username, password, and local authorization for this user as shown in the figure below.
A virtual domain can also be assigned to the users when you define their roles by selecting the virtual domain on the left side and moving it to the right side as shown in the image below (left).

    Hi,
log on (as sap* to the portal) and navigate to system administration --> system configuration --> user management configuration --> data sources.
There you should find a dialog for (de-)activating sap*.
note that the navigation path could be slightly different (my portal ist set to german, so I translated the path on my own).

  • SRM Workflow: Creation of new user WS10000192

    Hi All,
I am currently working on workflow configuration whenever a new user is created in SRM. I understand that the event (BUS4101 --> saved) is triggered when saving the new user and the workflow 10000192 is triggered from it. But the problem is only the first background step is completed (successfully) and the control is not proceeding to the next step (viewed from the graphical log - the green line is stuck in the middle of background task and the foreground task). I have done the agent assignment for all the tasks.
Could anyone let me what could be wrong?
    Thanks in anticipation.
    S V Raja

    Hi
If your workflow is stopped in the first backgrounds, without changing the status to error, you should first check to see if you have a ShortDunmp (ST22). If not check the trfc queue in transaction SM58.
Furthermore you should check your technical workflow log, you could have some agent resolvement problems - these should appear in the log.

I have also checked the table TJ30T, in this table we have 2 entry for all other user status one is in english and one is in german.
Please let me know how to add entry in this table or is there any other ways to add new user status in solman.
    Regards,
    Bhavesh

    Hi Abhyankar,
Explain the scenario where you want to create a new user status?
    General remark:
Creation of new user status can be for 2 cases: Whether you want the status to show up in the status field or you want to only use the status to search corrections and the status is displayed in "Further Statuses" tab.
If you want to use the new user status for searching the corrections and this user status will be manually set, then you need to create the status in CRMBS02 transaction without specifying any status numbers.
Then the new status will be available in "Further statuses" tab and you need to manually set or unset the status.
If you need your user status to reflect in the status field then you've perform the following actions in SPRO:
    1. Create Authorization key for the new status
    2. Create the new status with status number and order of visibility; assign the authorization key to the status
    3. Create the action which will set the status
    4. Add the action in the action profile
    5. Write the schedule condition required
These steps are on a high level. Hope this helps you to decide.

  • Creation of folders within the home folder on a new user

I sold my Dual 2.0 G5 to a friend. Instead of doing a clean install of Tiger, I made a new user in his name and deleted my old user. In his home folder there was just 'desktop' and 'library' folders. Once we opened up iPhoto, a 'pictures' folder was created automatically. And once we opened iTunes a 'music' folder was created. I'm wondering how to have the OS automatically create the other folders:
    documents
    movies
    public
    sites
I guess I assumed it would automatically create these with the creation of a new user file. I know I can just create these manually, but the fact that they normally have the little icon on each folder, I'm wondering if there is a way to have the OS create these. Or if that even matters.
    Any help would be appreciated,
    Keith

I'm wondering if there is a way to have the OS create these. Or if that even matters.
I wouldn't worry, as you've seen already, they get created as needed.
probably iMovie or such will make a Movies folder, and so on, but you could simply use the Finder to SHIFTCMDN, (Finder>File>New Folder), to make them if you're worried.

  • New user creation in AE- user group not getting assigned

    Hi All,
Here is a typical case, wherein when we create a new user with AE for the production system, the user gets created and the roles are also assigned but the user group is not getting assigned. The user group is being fetched from a table from the backend and all that is working fine. Infact in order to test the configurations we even created a new user in the production instance of AE giving the development system as the target system for user creation and in this case the user was successfully created and the user group is also assigned. The problem is arising only when the target system is production system.
Connectors are all working fine, but we are unable to think of a reason. Can somebody help us on this?

    Hi Vani,
If you are provisioning the user group using user defaults, check  that production system is selected in the user defaults configured. Configuration -> user defaults. You can define any user default system, but for perticuticular user defaults that is applicable define all the systems, in which you want user defaults to be provisioned.
    Kind Regards,

  • Any new user creation gets: unable to log into user account error

Sort of reposting from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2795507&tstart=0 as that initial question was answered.
Anyway, running an xserve managing all network accounts (only local accounts are a local admin on each system). DNS checks out and all current users can log in fine. However, it seems any new user I create keeps getting this wonderfully ambiguous error. I've tried Guest (but figured it probably interfered with the Guest Account), Student (but thought it might be interfering with a group of the same name), Guest Student, and Temp User.

Just making sure, you have selected the home location, and then actually pressed the "Create home" button? I have missed it few times and then wondered why it is not working. Then check the home folder location that it is actually there and created successfully.
    Yeah, and then hit Save!
