CS3 Preflight: Font incomplete

Do any of you know hat it means when preflight says there are no missing or embedded fonts, but one is incomplete?
A colleague just called to ask, and I didn't know, though I thought perhaps it meant the printer half or a T! font is missing, though there was no indication that was the case when she checked in (I think) Font Book. The font is Book Antiqua and T1, OS X 10.4.?.
Exported PDF showed "dots" where the font should be. Substituting the TT version seems to have solved the problem, but I'd like toknow what it is.
Peter

That's what she said. I'd be inclined to think that perhaps the printer half is completely missing, or it doesn't match the screen font for version or soemthing like that (I should have looked this up myself, but I'm having some issues trying to to run check disk on a laptop drive I pulled from a client machine that wouldn't boot, and every time I look at things sideways it quits and I have to restart, thought it ssems to have stabilized at this point).

  • CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 Vista Ult64

    CS3 Postscript fonts not visible when Installed with Suitcase 11.0 on Vista Ultimate 64bit.
    Truetype and Opentype work fine. I have searched through all the forums here multiple times, but not found a solution. The only workaround I found was to manually put the font files in c:/ProgramFiles(x86)/CommonFiles/Adobe/Fonts.
    When I put any font files in that folder, they show up in CS3 for use, but not in windows apps. I thought I would make a permanent work around by placing all of my uninstalled font files in that folder, then use suitcase to install them from there. That didn't work because EVERY font in that folder is available to CS3 and turned on. Do they get installed when you put them in there?? It didn't seem like they were installed, and windows apps didn't see them.
    These are workarounds anyway. My main goal is to have suitcase work so I can organize my fonts efficiently. Extensis blames the font and CS3. I have read that there are adobe issues with other font management software as well as suitcase. Any help would be appreciated.

    Got mine FIXED here is what i did:
    Windows 7 64bit SP1, CS 5
    Postscript fonts (comprising of *.pfb + *.pfm files) did not show up in any CS5 app, but showed OK in Word, Excel, Notepad etc.
    Tried  activating through Suitcase Fusion 2 and also through FontExpert 2009 -  but neither of them made the fonts visible in CS5 apps
    1) open Start Menu/Control Panel/Fonts
    2) on the sidebar there is "Font settings" item
    3) set the settings as i did
    [    ]  Hide fonts based on language settings
    [ x ]  Allow fonts to be installed using a shortcut (advanced)
    FIXED mine,
    now i can use Suitcase Fusion 2 to install any PFB/PFM fonts without any problems...
    PLEASE IF THIS WORKED FOR YOU TOO, LEAVE A MESSAGE HERE SO OTHERS KNOW IF THIS FIX IS 100% WORKING

  • [JS CS3] Preflight info through scripting

    Hi!
    Is it possible to generate the preflight information text from a javascript in InDesign CS3?
    I know it's possible to generate the preflight text (file) by exporting a package (document.packageForPrint), but what about the separate "Preflight" command in the File menu? Is it not available from scripting?
    Thanks,
    AJ

    Looking at the ESTK object model library, I can't find any lead for preflight command.
    However, you may have at least 2 ways to explore.
    1. Either use document.packageForPrint
    Document.packageForPrint (to: File , copyingFonts:boolean, copyingLinkedGraphics:boolean, copyingProfiles:boolean, updatingGraphics:boolean, ignorePreflightErrors:boolean, creatingReport:boolean, versionComments:string, forceSave:boolean):boolean
    So Document.packageForPrint (your filepath , false, false, copyingProfiles:false, updatingGraphics:false, ignorePreflightErrors:true, creatingReport:true, versionComments:false, forceSave:false);
    then File(the generated indd filepath).remove();
    So at the end, you only have the report.
    Tricky I know but it can work.
    2.Use the menu.invoke() concept. I am not skilled with that but the Indesign CS3 scripting guide details the procedure.
    Good luck.

  • InDesign CS6 - fonts problems (Document fonts fight with system installed fonts, "font incomplete")

    hello
    First, Indesign function to automatically open fonts from "Document fonts" folder is fantastic, quasy font manager. BUT, fonts is available ONLY for THAT indesign document, no other application can use it, even from CS6 suite. This is probably the most stupid decision about how this function must work. IDEALLY, fonts will be available for ALL application inside CS package until indd doc is closed. If I need some font for editing links in photoshop, illustrator I need to install them. This workflow have wrong concept.
    We now have problem, sorry Indesign have problem. Example, I need type1 font mt-symbol for mathtype AND for Indesign. This font is installed in c:\windows\fonts folder. Everything work fine. When I make package from Indesign and reopen indesign indd document inside package, Indesign report that mt-symbol IS INCOMPLETE. WHY, BECAUSE CONCURENT FONTS from both C:\windows\fonts folder AND FROM "Document fonts" folder. If I rename "Document fonts" folder, Indesign open font only from system and everything work properly.
    THIS IS BIG PROBLEM, fonts circles around workflow/folders and always will be duplicates in "document fonts" and system\fonts folder because different application need same fonts.
    Any solution?

    Another problem with the Document Fonts folder that we just noticed: in CS5, you could place Windows Type 1 fonts (.pfm and .pfb) into the Document Fonts folder on a Mac and InDesign would activate them.
    This no longer works in CS6. (Bug report filed.)
    Huge bummer, as this was a great timesaver and workaround in a high-production prepress environment when working with old Windows files. Hopefully this was not an intentional change and will be restored in a later bugfix release, or at worst in CS7.

  • Fonts not appearing in CS3 program font lists

    Certain postscript fonts (ZapfDingbats and Rubino Sans) are correctly installed in Windows 7 and available to Microsoft programs (Word and Excel) but not to Adobe programs. That is, they do not appear in any of the CS3 Design Standard applications (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator) font lists when the application is open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the fonts and CS3 to no avail. I have added shortcuts to the Common Files/Adobe/Fonts directory to no avail. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    I assume by PostScript fonts you really mean Type 1 fonts. (TrueType and OpenType fonts are every bit as much "PostScript fonts" as Type 1 fonts are!)
    There is a known problem with the CS3 applications with all Type 1 fonts under all Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit versions when such fonts are installed in the Windows System Font directory. The problem is fixed in CS4.
    The workaround is to copy all the Type 1 font files (both the .PFB and the .PFM files - each Type 1 font has one .PFB and one .PFM file) to the Creative Suite's private font directory. Depending upon the CS version, that may be in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
                   or
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
    Restart the Creative Suite programs you are using and the fonts should appear.
    You may also copy said fonts into the private font directories of the individual applications (typically a directory path ending with the node name Fonts.

  • Opening CS5 in CS3 outlines fonts COOP Heavy

    Am preparing to update an agency from CS3 to CS5.5. Finding that saving a Illustrator CS5.1 files down to CS3 outlines one of the fonts that had appearance attributes(all from the top half Ilustrator Effects). They own the font, and I tried with both PDF On and Off(notice blue bubbles at bottom) and got outlined font for Coop Heavy.
    As a test I set Coop Heavy all by itself on a fresh page, and it went over.
    Anyone know how I can save  CS5 to CS3 and not get outlined fonts? Any tips for updating an agency to CS5.1 anyone has found?

    I progressivley dummied down the logo, and it appears that offset path is one thing that causes CS5 to CS3 to outline type.
    Anyone else out there opening CS5 files in CS4 or 3 and finding loss of editablility in files, or a solution for this? Prepress houses are always asking us to save down to CS3, so must be people who know more about this. When you place CS5 files in CS3 seems all font gets oultined. Anyone find any way to stop fonts getting outlined? Before I start rolling out CS5, I need to develop a plan to cause minimum interruption to workflow.

  • Anyone know Flash CS3 embed font's Glyphs Range!! with font class(no TextField )

    I have add some font by Font class in the library

    but the font's glyphs looks not enough.
    when i use text String " ü ä ö ß π
    à â ç è é ê ë î ï
    ô ù û œ "
    only the "π" and "œ" is can be visible.
    Font.hasGlyphs also return false;
    if i only create a TextField, and Click the Embed button
    selection glyphs range.
    the text will be fine.
    but i won't use TextField by drag to the stage
    i heard in flex:
    @font-face {
    src:local("Arial");
    fontFamily: myFont;
    flashType: true;
    unicodeRange:
    U+0041-U+005A, /* [A..Z] */

    so what can i do in Flash CS 3?
    thanks a lot

    the .....TextField.

    Im not sure if u can do it with flash cs3.
    i change a little ur code to :
    package {
    //import flash.util.describeType;
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.text.TextField;
    import flash.text.TextFormat;
    import flash.text.AntiAliasType;
    import flash.text.TextFieldAutoSize;
    import flash.text.TextFormatAlign;
    import flash.text.Font;
       public class Test extends MovieClip {
          // be sure this is pointing to a ttf font in your hardrive
          [Embed(source="arial.ttf", fontFamily="foo", mimeType="application/x-font-truetype")]
          public var arialfont:Class;
          public function Test() {
              Font.registerFont(arialfont)
                var format:TextFormat          = new TextFormat();
              format.font              = "foo";
              format.color                = 0xFFFFFF;
              format.size                 = 130;
              var label:TextField         = new TextField();
              label.embedFonts            = true;
              label.autoSize              = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
              label.antiAliasType         = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
              label.defaultTextFormat     = format;
              label.text                  = "Hello World!";
              addChild(label);
              trace(label.text);
              label.setTextFormat(format);
    and it works fine with flash cs4, only first time it will ask to confirm flex sdk location ( have to have flex sdk to use embed, u can downlaod it free from adobe.com)
    hope that helps

  • DW CS3 incorrect font size display

    Hello All,
    I just upgraded to DW CS3 and any page that has paragraphs
    with font size sets to "2" displays as about a 4 pt font and is
    barley readable.
    Anyone have any ideas on how to get them to display
    correctly?
    Thanks for the help!

    Okay great, thanks guys. I've been going through my fonts and re-
    organizing them (made the mac noob mistake a few years ago of putting
    regular fonts in the system font library). I've also deleted those
    LST files and disabled the MM fonts. No luck so far, so there must be
    some culprit fonts on my system that are getting in the way.
    Are there any programs/ways of telling what fonts might be funky?

  • CS3 Illustrator font issues on Windows 7

    We just upgraded our Vista and Xp computers to Windows 7 and loaded and activated our CS3 creative suite. (Yes, we will most likely upgrade soon, but not today.) Everything seemed to go swimmingly until we noticed that we had lost about half our fonts. Even when we installed them in the Windows 7 fonts directory, Illustrator didn't recognize them.
    How do you make sure the installed fonts are recognized by CS 3 programs?

    I found the instructions below in the Illustrator forum--see thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/699968
    If you're still stuck, I recommend that you post a new question in the Illustrator forum.
    If you are on a Windows machine you need to copy the .otf or .ttf file to C:\Windows\Fonts but don't just copy them.  Use Windows Explorer to navigate to that page and then from the menu options choose "Install Font" or something to that effect to properly install it on the system.  Once you do that the font will automatically be recognized by Illustrator.  you may have to restart Illustrator for the changes to take effect, but you won't have to restart the computer--they're simply fonts, not program applications.

  • CS3 to CS3 Extended font size change

    We are running CS3 on intel Macs (10.5.4) If you open a file saved by this on a G5 (10.4.11) using CS3 Extended, the font size is now incorrect. eg Arial 12pt in CS3 opens as Arial 12.04pt in extended.
    Both CS3 and CS3 extended are 10.0.1
    Has anyone else seen this if so how is it prevented.

    As far as I know Extended offers several more functions than CS3 and so is a different application. Or is it only addional plug ins ?
    please see:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/compare/
    because of the font issue:
    Which filetype do you use, PSD ?
    are you saving to a network drive ? if so, please save to an internal HD, then transfer files manully (over the file explorer) to its final place (so, no direct saving to network drives).
    Could you check if its actually bigger really ? Maybe its just a display thing, I mean, maybe PS CS3 inernaly has it stored as 12.04 but just shows in the dialog "12". Maybe extended is more exact in that point. So Effictively maybe both are same size actually ?

  • CS3 Required Fonts

    I had this problem some time ago and have found solution on how to fix it but I can not find any details on how I did it.
    I am using CS3 Design Premium on Vista. Yesterday I have removed some fonts which I do not use and after this PS, ID, FL and AI are not working any more. All startup procedures are finishing with the error messages and are closing down. What I can do to bring my CS3 back to live ? Do I have to repair / reinstall my CS3 or there is other, simpler solution. I remember that I had to add some fonts back to the system and this fixed the problem before but as I said I do not remember what fonts they were.
    Thanks for suggestions.
    Tony

    I have fixed my problem.
    After discovering that some menu items in other applications look different I done my search on the Google for default Vista fonts. After reinstalling Segoe UI group of fonts all did come back to normal, including my CS3. While menus in other applications did look different CS3 did stop working all together. Personally I think it should not happend. Maybe CS4 will work better.

  • Flash CS3 - Missing Fonts Alert Dialog box not showing

    We seem to have lost the Alert dialog box when Flash CS3 Pro
    discovers there are missing fonts in a file. We still get the
    warning in the Output box but we get no Alert box to tells us
    actually which fonts we need to locate. This is happening
    regardless of file so it appears to be Flash issue and not a file
    issue.
    Anyone come across this before and anyone know how to fix?

    You need to make sure that the specific camera model is supported by the version of the ACR plug-in you have installed on your machine.
    The current version of ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) is ACR 4.5 and there is also ACR 4.6beta.
    What version are you running and what camera generated your raw files?

  • InDesign CC / Cloud Fonts - Incomplete Font warning, does not export font when Packaging?

    I'm using a new font from the creative cloud.  I  packaged my project and the fonts showed "incomplete fonts" and then didn't export the font, into the font folder, when packaging.  There is an AdobeFnt15.lst file in the fonts folder, which I'm not sure about?  If this is the case, how will I deliver my project to my printer when it is finished?

    If you downloaded Typekit fonts from the Creative Cloud (the ones available from the Fonts menu in the Creative Cloud Desktop app), they are not packaged. They are only licensed to Creative Cloud subscribers or Typekit subscribers. They can be embedded in a PDF file or in an EPUB file or in a DPS project.
    So you have two options: (1) Given the popularity of the Creative Cloud, your printer should have at least one CC subscription, then they can download  the fonts you're using. In fact, it's a relatively automatic process and I describe in the linked blog post below; or (2) you can create a PDF file they can print from.
    Here's an article on how it works:

  • CS3 Find Font/Delete Paragraph Style/Redefine Paragraph Style Causes Crash

    I am running into a very frustrating issue where I cannot replace a paragraph style. The issue is that we used to use some adobe type fonts and want to move to the true type equivalent so that we don't have problems working on files between mac and pc. The problem occurs on both mac and pc on a variety of hardware (both c86 and ppc macs for example). When we open the document it identifies that the font cannot be found (example Palatino T1). When we click find font and select the regular ttf Palatino replacement and click Change All Indesign just vanishes and leaves a crash message with a ton of garbage and a read only memory error. The same happens if we change the font on some text and right click on aragraph style and click "redefine style" - there is a sudden crash.
    Trying to work around this I went into our templates and tried to change it there. Opening the paragraph style and selecting the new font caused it to crash upon selecting OK. Also trying to Make a new paragraph style works, but then when deleting the old one causes a crash no matter what combination of mapping or not mapping the old paragraph style we chose (we tried every option under the dialogue and selected several different styles to map to or none at all).
    This occurs on several different fonts and on several different templates. I have tried deleting the adobe font cache to no avail. Any help resolving this would be great - all our employees are going nuts over this problem.
    Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

    Peter, your latest post led me to an interesting revelation. When I change Palatino (t1) bold to Palatino Bold using Find/Change it is fine. When I change Palatino (t1) to any font using Find/Change there is a curious result! As soon as I click find first the page changes to the default template and all content is hidden. The 4 or 5 places where palatino occurs on the default template change fine, but then on the next click of FIND FIRST it crashes! So the problem is connected to "find first", not the actual change. My guess is this is an issue of with how the find/change jumps from the template to the individual page, but I'm not sure exactly what is happening.
