CS4:Export JPEG Settings

Hi Folks,
Does someone know how to get access to JPEG settings(Export JPEG dialog in inDesign) to read/modify these setting in plugin? I just need to get/set some of the properties like Quality/Resolution/... in plugin, access to dialog is not important, just access to global setting values is my concern.
TIA,
Mor

Hi Ian,<br />The doc says:<br />"Settings for JPEG export are stored with the IJPEGExportPreferences interface on kWorkspa- <br />ceBoss. For details, see the API reference documentation. <br />End users can modify the preferences through the JPEG Export Options dialog box. You also <br />can change the preferences programmatically, with the kJPEGExportSetPrefsCommandBoss..." <br /><br />First of all) there is no such interface: IJPEGExportPreferences <br />Second of all) As you recommended I'm trying your suggestion(see code in below),but get error. Can you please correct the place that I'm wrong?<br /><br />InterfacePtr<IJPEGImageWriteOptions> jpeg_settings((IJPEGImageWriteOptions *)::CreateObject(kJPEGImageWriteFormatBoss, IID_IJPEGIMAGEWRITEOPTIONS));<br /><br />TIA,<br />Mor

  • Exporting JPEGs from InDesign CS4

I've exported jpegs from InDesign CS4 for years and each time I get an Export JPEG dialog box that gives me the option to adjust the resolution. Suddenly, when I export to JPEG, I get no dialog box and it automatically creates a JPEG at 300 dpi. I've looked everywhere in Preferences to see if I inadvertently changed settings, but I find nothing. Help?

    Ernie-
Thanks for responding...but still have a oroblem. Here's what I'm doing:
In Aperture I choose a "version" that has been Adjusted (croped, etc.).
    - Go to "File"...'Export"..."Version"
    - In next window for "Export preset" I choose "JPEG-Fit within 1024x1024"
    - Click on "Export version"
The exported version then showes up in "Finder" under "Pictures"
    - Next I open "Mail" (version 5.2)
    - Adderss email to friends in England.
    - Click on attachment (paper clip)
    - Choose my "version" from "pictures"
    - Back in Mail, click on "Format"..."Make Plain Text"
    - Send
My friends receive it as "bmp", not JPEG, with no Metadata.
If I do the same procedure but under "File" choose "Export Master", they receive it as JPEG and also the Metadata.....BUT, of course, no Adjustments, such as croping, that were made to the "Version".
What am I doing wrong? Is there any way to save the "Version" as a "Master" and then send it as a "Master"?
    Thanks,

  • CS4: Can't import exported JPEG?

I'm pretty sure I have myself asked for this before, but why can't a JPEG I exported from InDesign be imported back in InDesign? It shows grey in import dialog.
I remember I have previously had this problem when trying to use InDesign exported jpegs in other programs, but it's InDesign itself also.
Only Photoshop recognizes and if I open/save, it's ok.

I can do this running CS4 on Win XP SP2. Not a problem.
Anything special running in background like a screen grabber utility or something?

  • The difference in sharpness and overall contrast between LR5 and LR4 low res. export JPEGs

Installed the evaluation copy of the LR yesterday and as always compared with the previous version (4.4) of the program. The first and not very pleasant difference was the sharpness of the exported JPEGs in low resolution. In full resolution exports it is not that much noticeable. As you may see on the below photo LR4 export is noticeably sharper than LR5. All the export settings were the same in both versions. I used my saved export preset for both JPEGs. The LR5 exported JPEG is slightly lighter than the one in LR4.4. Both photos look the same in develop mode screen, so the difference is in export processing.
Would be great to know hear the experience, thoughts and comments of others about it.

Yeah, all other bugs in Lr5 I've been able to find acceptable workarounds for, but I'm not sure what to do about this one for the mean time - any ideas?
If no acceptable workaround can be found, then +1 vote: 5.0.1 in a hurry.

  • CS4: Exporting "lightweight" AVI with chapter marks?

Prior to CS4, I recall being able to export a "lightweight" AVI file using black video filler and the "Expand Stills" option that would contain chapter marks. You could import this AVI into Encore, where the chapter marks would be recognized, and then use the "Replace Asset" option to replace the AVI with an M2V encoded in a different encoder. This worked great--but I can't seem to get it to work any more. I'm guessing that whatever enabled this feature was forcibly extracted when the Media Encoder went solo, but if not--how the heck do I do this?

Don't see anything like that in CS3.  Closest thing to it is this:   Export / movie / settings / compile settings ....

  • Lightroom 4.1 exported JPEG files are not recognized by Apple Preview App

I just started using Lightroom 4.1 Trial version (coming from Aperture). I exported JPEG versions of some images using an ICC profile. On my iMac running Lion 10.7.5 the pictures do not show a thumbnail, the file on the desktop just shows "JPEG". I could not open the file with the Preview App, but I am able to open it with DPP (Canon software)? Also the file shows that it has 0 x 0 dimentions when I click Get Info even though it is about 25 Megs in size?
    The message I get is
"The file “Edit-739820120223Canon EOS 7D.jpg” could not be opened.
It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize."
Does anyone know why this is hapening?
Is it a know issue between Adobe and Apple?
Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks for help in advance.

25MB is quite a large filesize for a JPG, and this might be either quite a lot of pixels saved at a very "high" quality (not very much compressed), or it may be an extremely large number of pixels saved with medium compression.
While the technical spec of the JPG format imposes an absolute limit on maximum width and height pixel dimensions, some software employs a lower limit above which it considers the file to be invalid. Different programs, different limits, sometimes.
I have encountered this (for example) with pano stitched images using the full resolution of a large number of component shots - where JPG output could not be made, or if made, could not even be viewed as a whole by my standard image viewer (though TIFF was still OK even at still larger sizes).
If Lightroom has been set to a large printed size AND to a high ppi resolution, it is easy to get into very high numbers and very large output files. One should IMO at least question the utility and benefit of using very high ratios of upsampling from a standard digital photo - which may happen in some cases as a result of using the same output settings regardless, when spreading the same data across both small and large scales. If the file that was imported into LR really does provide an unusually high number of pixels expressing lots of detail, then that will better deserve such a capacious output file. Otherwise, each part of the file may merely show a very highly detailed representation, of a very blurry nothing-much-in-particular.
If the JPG has exceeded the viewer's size limits, a reported width and height of 0 may represent an error message, in effect - not actual reality.

  • Applying saved jpeg settings to raw (.raf) file.

    Hi,
Please could someone help me out? I have previously imported some raw (.raf) files into Lightroom and done my adjustments - i then saved as jpegs and took all files out of the lightroom dashboard.
I now want to go back into a raw (.raf) file that I have re-imported into Lightroom, and apply the same settings that I did previously to the jpegs before.
Obviously, on re-importing the raw files, they have reverted to the original settings and not the jpeg settings that I saved at.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks for your help

    DavidCraikPhotography wrote:
    Is this possible?
If you exported them with 'All Metadata', then you may be able to recover the raw develop settings from the exported jpegs using Wreck Hover (a plugin I wrote).
'Recover from export' is the menu item to use.

  • Problem with exported jpegs from CS5 PSDs with transparent backgrounds

I've detected an issue where when exporting jpegs from a CS5 PSD layered file with a transparent background, the jpegs don't have a pure white background (255, 255, 255). They seem to range from 250, 250, 250 to 253, 253, 253.
LR3 with same export settings does not show this behavior--it's pure white: 255, 255, 255.

    Bill,
Another very helpful solution and I appreciate knowing how to fix it in both applications. Thanks!

  • Is there a way (or a plugin) to export develop settings into a readable file format?

For online educational/sharing purposes, I'd like to be able to export my LR develop settings into a readable text format so that if I share a before/after picture I can also include the LR develop settings that went into creating the after picture.  I've looked for 2 days and I can't find a plug-in that will do this.

The List View plugin can export develop settings as a CSV file for Excel or HTML for a browser.
If you're technically minded and comfortable with scripting, it's straightforward to write a script that reads the settings from the XMP metadata stored in the .xmp sidecars (for raws) or in the XMP metadata section of JPEGs and TIFFs.   Open a .xmp sidecar in your favorite text editor to get a flavor of how the develop settings are stored there.

Just thought i might add that i have encountered this same problem and that if i want a high quality jpeg i save as pdf then, open and re-save as jpeg in photoshop.
I never knew my jpeg's weren't top quality until a customer informed that my jpegs were not of as good quality as jpeg's received off other designers they use.

  • CS3 to CS4 Export Issues

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded to PP CS4 and I after some initial quirks it seems to be running fine.  I just setup my first project and the source video files are 800x600 and I am choosing a custom format for output (same 800x600).
What is really getting me is that in CS3, I found it was much easier to render out projects and now with the separate "renderer" I have no clue as to why my renders really look awful.  The text is blurred and the colors are reduced to something awful, pixelated and "spotty".
I have tried to crank up the render settings but the files sizes seem relatively small with poor quality.  Even when PP was estimating a file size of 600mb, I really only got 12MB out of it.
I have also tried different formats using compression and no compression and it's all the same...just garbage.
I have used Premiere from just when it was called Premirere Pro all the way up to CS3 and I have not experienced this before.
Any ideas if I have some kind of corrupt install or something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eugene

In fact, I am hoping it's operator error.
I am using Win7, 32 bit on a laptop with an integrated video card since currently I am traveling.  However, so there is no confusion, before I left, I had the same issues on a Vista, 64 bit workstation with an i7 processor and dual SLI nVidia GTX9800 cards.
Also, I had CS3 on a 32 bit machine and when I rendered out of there...no problems!
So, the sequence is only about 24 seconds long and all layers are 800x600 png files that were rendered out of 3DS Max.  However, I have some title screens that were done in PP and they suffer from the same fate.
I choose FIle->Export->Media and the export menu settings shows up.
I choose Quicktime and use custom settings.  800x600 with H264, Field type set to Lower Fist, 30 fps, square pixels (1.0) and maximum bitrate 144,000
File size is shown as only 3mb.  When I would render something like this out of CS3, the file size would be hundreds of megabytes with H264 and I would always go back and recompress and get really good quality.
I am very new to the CS4 workflow, so I am wondering if there is somekind of preference setting or otherwise that is causing my issues.
    Thank you,
    Eugene

  • Exporting jpegs with embedded previews?

For compatibility with a web application I wrote using an old workflow ending with a save-for-web in Photoshop, I need to export jpegs with embedded previews. (Not DNG or other format files with embedded jpeg previews.) This happens by default with Photoshop, but Lightroom doesn't do it and I can't find anything to change that in the settings. Am I missing something? And if this isn't included, is it on the to-do list for improvements?

  • Bloated exported jpegs??

I start by importing a 4 meg file (jpg). Apply a few Lightroom tweeks and export jpg (quality 100%) and file size triples to 12 megs. Why so big?
I can lower quality to 80% and then it is pretty close to the original. But I prefer not to do this.
I have also noticed a much bigger file size when exporting web galleries and have to drag the sliders down to about 60% quality to keep files small for web viewing.

Lora, here is what I think is happening. The JPEGS you started with are expanded to uncompressed images within LR's rendering pipeline, simply because they have to be in order for LR (or any other imaging application) to work with them. At this point, they in memory and are MUCH larger than the JPEG files you started with since they are not compressed.
After processing, when you tell LR to do an Export, the JPEGS you started with are expanded to uncompressed images within LR's rendering pipeline, simply because they have to be in order for LR (or any other imaging application) to work with them. At this point, they are MUCH larger than the JPEG files you started with.
LR then proceeds to apply all of your edits to the files, and then it creates new JPEGs in whatever folder you told it to export to. The new JPEGs are compressed using the settings in the Export dialog, and if you choose a higher image quality than the original JPEGS, they can certainly be be larger than the original files.
Note that I am NOT saying that the new JPEGs will actually be higher quality than the originals. JPEGs use lossy compression, so whatever compression was used to produce the original JPEGS threw content away that can never be recovered. But the LR doesn't care about that, and works on the contents of the file as it had pristine originals to work with, so it's very possible to tell it to produce JPEGs that are larger than you started with. It's just that there is not much point to actually doing so.
Don's suggestion about Auto Export doesn't really apply here, since it refers to files that are within the Library. Exported files, such as we're talking about, will ALWAYS get the metadata written into the file, unless you have turned on the "minimize metadata" checkbox in the Export dialog. I'd have a hard time believing that this is the sole cause of the size increase, though; metadata shouldn't take up more than a few kilobytes even in a worst case scenario.
Bottom line: set the Export JPEG quality to your needs, without regard to what the original JPEG sizes were.

  • Is there a way to export workspace settings?

The problem is, I work with a two-monitor setup. One is the actual working area with a painstakingly constructed layout of panels, the other one has a synchronized window with a full-screen Preview. Every once in a while I accidentally close the working area window, and because Bridge only saves a "current state" in workspaces, my painstakingly crafted window is just gone, poof (sound effect, not slang).
I know I can save a duplicate working space. That makes it somewhat easier, but I still have to delete the botched working space and create it again as a copy of the duplicate. This, coupled with the fact that the first stage of any troubleshooting on Bridge is to nuke all settings, makes me a bit uneasy with the solution.
I would be very grateful if someone knew of a way to export workspace settings so I could just load them back in when I mess up or Bridge does.

Would you mind disclosing the resolution of your 30" monitor in terms of pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high) ?  I'm just curious to see how such a large monitor compares to my two side-by-side 22" monitors.
    Hallo mr de Gokker!
Nice to see you also here
The resolution I use with my 30 " is the default one and set to 2560 x 1600 pixels
If I can take a little 'gamble' I assume the total pixel amount of 2 x 22" will be more, but I never could get used on the two monitor set up. I just like my tools to be close to the image I work on, and using the pen tool with a lot of Brushing and switching to different layers and combine this with action pallet in button mode that needs also a lot of pressing it would be to often en to much distance to travel for my hand, but that's just personal.
