Cuda toolkit and sdk with ati card

I have an ati 4330 on my laptop which I use to develop  CUDA programs using the emulation mode under Ubuntu 9.10. I have both the toolkit and the sdk installed, but NOT the nvidia driver. I always used arch linux, but I couldn't install the toolkit and sdk from AUR without the nvidia drivers. Even by changing the build script it didn't work.
Is it possible or should I download packages from cuda zone and install them somehow?
I will install arch linux under virtualbox to try fixes that you suggest.

Ok,
I found it /usr/computeprof/bin ...
Not too sure if it was there before I modified the pkgbuild for the ubuntu9.10.run ... Hopefully this helps someone

  • [SOLVED]CUDA Toolkit and SDK

    Hey All,
I've been working with CUDA on arch for quite a while now and maybe I'm slow or impatient, but I have a few simple questions. I CANNOT for the life of me find the Visual Profiler (which is claimed to be in 3.1 which is in the AUR). Can anyone point me to this? Maybe the SUSE11 build of the toolkit doesn't come with it. I am puzzled. Anyways, since I know forum response is slow, I will attempt to modify the pkgbuild to install the ubuntu version of the toolkit instead of the SUSE one and maybe I will get stuff that should be there.
Any experienced CUDA dudez wanna clue a fellow archer in?

EDIT: Changing the .run file from suse to ubuntu made no difference... so it must be within the pkgbuild. I will research this but I believe a CUDA developer or maybe an arch guru can maybe pin point WHY we aren't getting the visual profiler. Thanks!

ive been reading through these pages and it cant really make head nor tail of the info regarding ati cards.
i plan to get a sapphire radeon 9700 pro ultimate to stick into a new K7N2 Delta L mobo. no can somebody give me a straight answer on this, will it cause me grief? will there be lock ups, black screens etc....
also, will the heat pipe thing used by it(massive) actually fit in the mobo ok?

    Hi,
The black screen problem on boot seems to be with the newer bios versions, seems to work fine on the original )

  • Oracle support and compatibility with graphics cards

I have been going through 2 weeks of hell getting any kind of meaningful information on Oracle linux 6.2 support for various graphics cards. I started with an ATI FireGl card that would not work with OEL 6.2. I am swapping that out in the seemingly futile hope that I can get an Nvidia GEFORCE 8800 to work. Either I am conducting my search using the wrong verbage(hard to imagine, but possible) or totally incompetant! I am here in one last desperate gamble that SOMEONE has gone through this pain before me. Maybe I am asking too much to be able to install 11GR2 on my server and still be able to use a Gnome desktop. Linux Mint worked perfectly with the ATI card, but alas, I could not install Oracle.
    Thank you in advance
    Dean

From what I understand, the error means that the X Window server cannot find a display attached to your DVI output, which actually means it does not support the DVI port where your display has been attached to. This is a problem of the video driver that simply lacks support for your graphics adapter.
I suggest to start by connecting only one display and verify it is connected to the DVI-1 port of the adapter. Support for DVI-2 requires support by the video driver.
Enterprise Linux should work with graphics adapters that are standard with server hardware sold by HP and Dell. Graphics adapters you can buy over the desk from ATI and NVIDIA are usually designed for the end-user desktop/game market and are all difficult to get fully working under Enterprise Linux. You can check the vendor support page to see if they provide driver support for SUSE and RHEL, but I doubt that it will work with the Oracle Linux UEK kernel. Driver software from these vendors are not open source and require a specific Linux kernel. Alternative drivers exist for http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/ for NVIDIA, but your success will vary, in particular if you need to support 2 monitors, which is not a typical server system setup.
You might have more luck using a Linux distribution for desktop systems, such as Fedora or Ubuntu. What you are planning to install from Oracle? It is easier to get Oracle Database working on unsupported Linux than trying to hack a video driver to support advanced features on an unsupported operating system. Or try a complete different approach and install Windows and use virtualization, like Oracle VirtualBox to run Oracle Linux out of the box. I would prefer to use virtualization even if my desktop computer would run Linux. There are just too many advantages I would not want to miss anymore.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello
As I can see you got notebook without operating system and you try to install and configure your own OS.
In many postings I wrote here I write again and again that most important thing is to install all drives and Toshiba specific stuff following right installation order so here is installation order for your notebook model:

  • HW acceleration problem with ATI cards

Hello all. This is my first post here
I have noticed the following issue/problem and would like your feedback about it.
We have a lot of intel macs here at the office (15 macs).
Most of them are intel imacs using ATI graphics.
We also have an intel macmini with a nvidia 9400 graphics card, a macbook pro 17inch, core 2 duo with nvidia graphics etc.
    My personal macs are:
    1) a macpro 1.1 (upgraded to 2.1) with (upgraded) 2 x5365 xeon cpus @ 3ghz (8 core machine), 10GB ram, ΑΤΙ HD 4870 1GB, INTEL 80GB G2 SSD ...
    2) an imac 2.93Ghz i7 27inch, with 16GB RAM and an ATI 5xxx card (i do not remember the exact model, i think it is the 5770 card as a successor to the 4850 card).
I have noticed the following issue on ALL the macs i have access to: whichever mac runs nvidia card, irrespective of the specification of both the nvidia card and its cpu, has hw acceleration working properly when browsing the web.
For example, if i visit these links:
    http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/
    http://ie.microsoft.com/testdrive/Default.html
and i run the respective test on any of the macs we have here equipped with an ATI card i get slow frame rates, ie. on my macpro, with a dual monitor setup 2560x1600 (apple 30inch) and 1680x1050 (apple cinema display) i get 20s FPS when running the tests and this is only when using safari.
The same applies when running these tests on my imac i7 as well as on all other macs that are running ATI hardware.
On the contrary if i run the tests on a mac which is equipped with a nvidia card i get (depending on how old the hardware is) 50+ or even 60+ FPS.
I do know that things are complicated with hw acceleration on OS X Lion and in particular when browsing the internet (partially working hw acceleration) but why the difference between ATI and NVIDIA?
All drivers .kext files are original and not patched.
When running benchmarks, the results appear on par with similar systems.
Of course all of our macs are running OS X Lion, latest version with latest updates installed.
Also cleared safari cache (by manually deleting the cache.db file as well), disabled all of the plug-ins, installed latest version of adobe flash, to no avail.
I just want to know why there is different hw acceleration behaviour when running a NVIDIA instead of an ATI card on OS X LION.
From a practical perspective i think this is why sometimes when i browse the web i have excessively cpu utilization even on powerful systems (i7, 8core macpro etc) running ATI hardware.
Please excuse my English, it is not my main language

    UPDATE:
    After reading here http://betanews.com/2012/02/10/google-releases-chrome-18-beta-get-it-now/
i just tried the Google Chrome Beta v 18.0.1025.11 and i saw a dramatic difference. On a 2560x1600 screen i am now getting on this test (http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/ ) approximately 40+ FPS. Nevertheless my question still stands: why people with NVIDIA cards on a mac do not have this problem?

  • Trouble with Ati cards - new with recent update.

    Hi folks
I have been using Arch for > 3 yrs now and it has been a work horse. I installed it on kids computer over a year ago and has been trouble free. Recently I did a sync and since then the xorg started giving problems.
I have a Ati Radeon 7000 PCI video card on it. It worked with out any trouble till recently. Now it starts ok but every few seconds or so screen goes completely blank and then reappears. Nothing in the logs and no complaints even when I start xinit/startx from command line.
It appears as if monitor connection was loose if I did not know that was not a problem. It is most pronounced when ever there is a lot of screen refresh to do, such as a menu item sprang open a lot of submenus, a new window opened or closed and so on. However this is pretty much disabling because you can;t see anything on the screen for long enough to use it.
I tried changing the driver, installed Catalyst - eventhough catalyst works ok, it's resolution is lower and looks poor ?  I tried removing all the usb peripherals and tried one by one with the same problem persisting. Installed a clean Arch on another partition and as soon as radeon driver was installed it started giving same problems. I tried latest puppy and despite installing radeon driver it still worked fine and did not flicker like Arch. However I don't like puppy for this purpose and hope to maintain Arch.
Is there a way of figuring out what causes these flickers and rectify it. I put PCI=nomsi on kernel command line to turn off kernel mode setting. Tried /etc/modprobe.d/radeon.conf with modesetting=off, tried removing stuff off from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri/*. None of these made much difference.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    sk

I kind of solved it for now.
Try " X -configure" to create a new xorg.conf.new file and move it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf and under the video card section put a
    Option "NoAccel" "On"
At the least it is not driving me crazy with blinking and flickering.

  • Apple ID and problems with credit card

Hi, I'm having a lot of problems with the credit card registered to my ID.
I always made purchases with the card registered but now I get an error message which is as follows:
"Your payment method was not accepted. Please enter valid information for payment."
I've always used the same card VISA PostePay to buy app on iTunes Store but recently I'm getting this message. How can I fix? Thanks.

Firstly, make sure that your card is not close to the expiration date listed with your card registration.  Next, take a look at your iTunes linked Credit Card information in all regards.  Ensure that your Apple ID and Credit Card information indeed is identical with regard to Name, Address, Postal Codes, etc.  Also, if you are an Apple Store Online Customer make certain that your Profile information is all, again identical to your other linked data regarding that particular Credit Card.  There may be some different information somewhere that is giving you this intermittent problem.   Check Your Credit Report and ensure there are no open disputes or recent file data that is in error.

  • [SOLVED] Artifacts with EXAPixmap ON and KMS with ATI OSS drivers

I had some problems for many months on my Arch Linux installation and I couldnt figure out what was causing it, so, because I found the sollution, I wanted to post it here and share it with you.
I, like others, was experiencing huge artifacts with KMS and EXAPixmaps on, on various cases, visuals and textures. After fiddling with all radeon options in xorg.conf and KMS on/off I found out thats its best for me to have KMS on (I couldnt play wine games otherwise) and EXAPixmaps off. But then again, when EXAPixmaps was off, I had poor 2D performance with KMS on, Xrender acceleration wasnt working and was falling back to software engine. Solution came from something that was brought to my attention in this topic. I ve set ARGB visuals off, raster engine for rendering and tried EXAPixmaps on.
It worked! Everything are as they supposed to be. Xrender engine and composite manager are finally working, no more artifacts. Framebuffer memory on my radeon card was somehow cleared. I then later found out an awkward solution on how to clear it by demand... Start X with vesa driver... then fix again xorg.conf back to radeon driver and reboot.
Now I have both 2D and 3D acceleration, I am logged in with KDE and have good performance. My glxgears output is 1000 to 1150 fps (vsync off) and I am using Xrender for the KDE desktop effects.
EDIT: I must clarify that I have an ATI Radeon 9200 Mobility M9+ (R200 serries)
    Last edited by twilight0 (2011-05-13 20:30:27)

I 've made some more edits and this is my current xorg.conf
    http://pastebin.com/x6ubG80K
I have ColorTiling set on for performance, be careful as it may be resource hungry in 3D apps but it increases dramatically fps.
You can try setting off EXAPixmaps as well and see how it goes, but then you ll have poor 2D performance and yet videos will play just fine either way.

  • [solved] Still having problems with ATI card

    Hi there,
I posted a message over a week ago concerning issues that I am having getting my ATI Radeon card to function adequately with X
Currently i'm using the xf86-video-ati-6.10.0-1 driver however for some reason this doesn't work properly for my card (I had a similar problem in Gentoo that I could only over come by using the ATI drivers). The problem is that the screen is shifted 2.5 cms to the left and there is a 1.5 cm gap at the top of the screen and 1cm at the bottom of the screen, I realise that I could "fix" this by adjusting HPosition, Hsize, VPosition and Vsize. However I don't want to be altering the screen every time I use the computer.
So I have been trying to get the ATI drivers onto the system, I have solved most of the problems by running pacman -Syu
The problem that i'm getting when trying to install the ATI driver (catalyst) is the following
    [root@Blackhp mike]# pacman -Sy catalyst
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: ati-dri: requires libgl>=7.2
    [root@Blackhp mike]
If anyone knows how I can fix this it would be appreciated

Hi there , I have the same problem and after I removed libgl, installed catalyst and catlyst-utils from yaourt, I still cannot upgrade my arch.

    but libgl is removed:
    [root@htpc pkg]# pacman -Qi libgl
    error: package "libgl" not found
    [root@htpc pkg]#
    I'm going mad...
[EDIT]: now what i did and resolved it meanwhile.
I needed to install libgl , then removed catalyst and catalyst-utils. Then made pacman -Syu. Then again I deleted libgl and ati-dri and xf86-video-radeonhd and it works.

  • Neo-2 Platinum compatibility issue with ATI cards?

Iv'e just bought a MSI 865PE Neo-2 Platinum board and i get alot of blue screens related to video card drivers... i've tried using catalyst 4.7 to recent 4.11 and it doesn't stop the blue screens...
Is there a way that ATI radeon cards are incompatible with MSI boards? (running a sapphire 9600XT 3 months old)

The 9600 card is on the compatability list, http://www.msi.com.tw/html/products/mainboard/testreport_pdf/6728v2.0/vga.pdf --not the specific Sapphire card though. I would imagine that sapphire cards would work fine with the MOBO. Was this a clean install of windows or did you just plop the old HD from the old MOBO into the new? You need to do a fresh install of windows, or at least a windows repair, when switching MOBOs. I'm guessing here. You need to give us specific system specs, and what is going on when the BSODs occur. We might be able to help you better with more information.

and adding the Modes line to xorg.conf manually and using both the ati and the vesa drivers and nothing seems to work.
My current xorg.conf is here: http://pastebin.ca/871761
For some reason, the resolution it seems to default to is 1920x1440

You can, as a safe alternative, download the previous version of the catalyst driver which does work.  I have archived the 32-bit packages of catalyst-7.11-2 and catalyst-utils-7.11-1 here:
