DB Corruption on RHES 3.0, OCFS, Firewire

I recently built a RAC cluster using OCFS and a firewire device.
due to a bug in dbca. i had to create the db as a standalone instance, then alter it to be clustered.
All is fine for 24 hours or so. then both instances bomb out with corruption errors in the control files and then redo logs.
I've rebuilt the db's twice, with the same problems. here is the message i get in the alert log after 24 hours or so :
Errors in file /u01/app/oracle/admin/racdb/bdump/racdb1_ckpt_17555.trc:
ORA-00201: controlfile version incompatible with ORACLE version
ORA-00202: controlfile: '/u02/oradata/racdb/control01.ctl'
Fri Mar 26 22:43:27 2004
The instance dies. When i re-start it :
ORA-00368: checksum error in redo log block
ORA-00353: log corruption near block 100625 change 85664 time 03/26/2004
22:38:46
ORA-00312: online log 3 thread 1: '/u02/oradata/racdb/redo03.log'
Anyone, any ideas ?

Thanks for asking Pavna. I was able to do it with the following steps :
FYI, See the following link for getting the DB running properly:
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml#RunningOracleInstallationOnRHELAS3
In brief:
1)Apply patches & set paths, libraries & compilers per the aforementioned tech note.
2) 9.0 install w/ no DB after patching Red Hat per
3) 9.2.0.4. upgrade, still no DB
4) Patches 3119415 & 3238244 w/ OPatch
5) dbca w/ a custom defined db per chap. 10 of the 10gAS install guide -- create SQL scripts (dbca whines about invalid create operator statements otherwise..)
6) run the scripts to create the db
7) run rdbms/admin/catldap to create the LDAP schema& packages (do NOT run oidca)
8) run repca to create an empty repository
9) run infrastructure install -- identity mgt. install
Note: I was able to succeed with this process, but in retrospect, it looks like I was using gcc296 instead of 323...
As we are trying to prep for an automated install compliant with Oracle's embedded license reqts, we have to get this process down to a complete lights out install. I will release the process/docs/scripts to OTN when we are done.

After last system update, my firewire external mobil disk hard drive is no longer recognized. Any solutions?
Why does MacOS go backwards... gets worse over time?

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work! I have had no trouble with any update Apple puts out (the Combo update is what I normally choose). Are you running 9.2 like your specs. say? You are in the Tiger forum, so I'll assume you haven't updated your Macs specs.
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Yours may be the 10.4.5 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
    Good Luck!

  • MacBook Pro -- external hard drive corruption -- AND hanging computer?

Since purchasing a 17" MacBook Pro, I've had serious problems with directory corruption on three of my external firewire hard drives (80 and 100 G FireLite Pocket drives and a 400 G Lacie drive). About 2 weeks ago, the 80 G drive (with most of my critical files) disappeared from the desktop. Disk Utilities returned with a message that it was repairable. Tech Tools supposedly fixed it, but the drive icon shortly disappeared from the desktop. This time, Disk Utilities "repaired" it, but it was the kiss of death. After this, plugging in the drive caused the computer to hang indefinitely. I could no longer run any repair or data rescue software. Once this problem occurs, I can switch firewire cables and computers, and the computers still crash/hang. A techy at work managed to rescue the files and replace them on the disk (this required other hardware, a PC, and some software he downloaded(?)). Two weeks later, the problem happened again. However, this time, it was the 80 G and my 400 G backup drive. Now, all of my originals and backups (for the past 2 years, since I did my last CD/DVD backups) are (hopefully) temporarily unavailable. My 100 G drive started to do the same thing. However, I purchased and downloaded a copy of Disk Warrior, which seems to have rescued this disk.
I've had these drive for between 3 and 5 years, with little or absolutely no trouble. Then, after getting the MacBook Pro, I'm encountering really serious problems.
Is the MacBook Pro at fault? (I've returned to my PowerBook G4 until this issue is resolve).
What causes such severe disk directory damage that causes my computer to hang?
How can I recover my files (critically important to my work, some of which is on a tight deadline) without having to run to the vastly overworked/underpaid techy in my place of employment)?
My conversation with an Apple Tech was much less than satisfying. In fact, he seemed to portray a state of denial about the MacBook Pro having any problems, even though the web is full of complaints. What's up Apple? Are you beginning to backslide yet again?

  • 10.4.5 Update and Firewire Problems...

It seems that since my recent 10.4.5 update, my external firewire drive is not being recognized. Using System Profiler, there even seems to be difficulty for the profiler to provide any info when "firewire" is clicked on under "Hardware"; Profiler seems to search for any info re: firewire, but produces nothing.
I have shut down and rebooted the computer, turned off/on the FWD, changed cable ports... I am considering re-installing 10.4.4 to see if that might make a difference.
Any clues or insights??? I can't access my external FWD!!
    Thanks!

  • RAC on RH2.1AS with Firewire Database startup issue

    Hi:
I have 2 nodes RAC set up using ocfs + firewire device. My database creation was fine and I can start up database from any single node. When I have one node started and try to start the other node I got ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kccsbck_first], [2], [493988343] during mount stage. I am thinking the problem is watchdog. Is anyone had the same problem? Should I apply patch to 9.2.0.3?

    Mike:
Yes! I resolved the problem by applying the 9.2.0.3 patch. However, ocfs is not working properly. Sometime I got I/O problem or used one node to create tablespace but the other node can not see it right away. May be is because I use version 1.0 of ocfs.o. I am trying to find newer version of ocfs.o. If you know where to get it please let me know.
