DB-Link Performance Issues
Hello,
Does anyone know of any performance issues with regards to db-links? If I execute queries right on the database, they're pretty fast. When I execute them from the other server using a db-link, some queries are slow and some aren't. I can't pin-point where the problem is. I use TOAD to execute my queries on Oracle 7.
Thank you very much.
Hi
When you execute statement that use tables from only one site the statement is executed on that site and you receive result. In other case the statement is executed in one site (usualy on the statement site). There are rules for optimizing distributed queries (See Oracle7 Server Tuning).

Dynamic Link from After Effects CC to Premiere Pro CC Performance Issues
I just updated my After Effects and Premiere Pro to CC and since doing so I've found numerous performance issues. One that is seriously hurting my workflow is the poor performance of the dynamic link with After Effects compositions into Premiere Pro. In CS6, you could make a change to the AE composition, save it, click over to Premiere Pro and it would quickly update and you can play your timeline and preview your changes. You could also move the clips around and add cross dissolves and watch the changes quickly in Premiere Pro CS6. Now, since updating to CC, if you save the composition in AE and click over to Premiere Pro it won't update on its own. Sometimes it just shows a single frame of the AE composition. I found that if you right click and "Edit Original", go into AE and then click back over to Premiere Pro and it will finally update. But if you make any changes to the placement of the AE composition on the timeline, or add a cross dissolve, fade, etc. it again won't play the AE composition any longer. After you make any changes to the AE composition you have to right click and go to "Edit Original", go into AE, and then click back over to Premiere Pro.. Then it will finally update.

Unfortunately in my case the export doesn't solve the issue. The video only looks good while in the composition... I've tried exporting it in all the different formats with several codecs, but to no avail...
You can check my own post in the After Effects forum: AE linked composition looks different in Premiere -
IOS 8.1+ Performance Issue
Hello,
I encountered a serious performance bug in Adobe Air iOS application on devices running iOS 8.1 or later. Approximately in 1-2 minutes fps drops to 7 or lower without interacting with the app. This is very noticeable in the app. The app looks like frozen for about 0.5 seconds. The bug doesn't appear on every session.
Devices tested: iPad Mini iOS 8.1.1, iPhone 6 iOS 8.2. iPod Touch 4 iOS 6 is working correctly.
Air SDK versions: 15 and 17 tested.
I can track the bug using Adobe Scout. There is a noticeable spike on frame time 1.16. Framerate drops to 7.0. The App spends much time on function Runtime overhead. Sometimes the top activity is Running AS3 attached to frame or Waiting For Next Frame instead of Runtime overhead.
The bug can be reproduced on an empty application having a one bitmap on stage. Open the app and wait for two minutes and the bug should appear. If not, just close and relaunch the app.

Miska SavelaHi
Id already activated Messages and entered the 6 digit code I was presented with into my iPhone. I can receive txt messages from non iOS users on my iMac and can reply to those messages.
I just can't send a new message from scratch to a non iOS user :-s

On googling this seems to be an issue with java file handling on windows servers and I couldn't find a solution yet. Any recommendation or pointer is appreciatedHi shubhu,
I just analyzed your partial Thread Dump data, the problem is that the ajax4jsf framework ResponseWriterContentHandler triggers internally a new instance of the DocumentBuilderFactory; every time; triggering heavy IO contention because of Class loader / JAR file search operations.
Too many of these IO operations under heavy load will create excessive contention and severe performance degradation; regardless of the OS you are running your JVM on.
Please review the link below and see if this is related to your problem.. This is a known issue in JBOSS JIRA when using RichFaces / ajaxJSF.

Performance issues with flashed 7800GT (G5)
Hey,
I recently flashed a PC 7800GT with the 128K OEM NVidia ROM. It's one of the cards with a physical 128K ROM chip, so no worries there. However, it doesn't deliver the performance I expected. I have a Late 2005 2.0 DC, 10GB DDR2 and use Leopard 10.5.8.
This is what OS X puts out (german):
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT:
Chipsatz-Modell: GeForce 7800GT
Typ: Monitor
Bus: PCIe
Steckplatz: SLOT-1
PCIe-Lane-Breite: x16
VRAM (gesamt): 256 MB
Hersteller: NVIDIA (0x10de)
Geräte-ID: 0x0092
Versions-ID: 0x00a1
ROM-Version: 2152.2
Performance issues are: I can't seem to reach frame rates that are anywhere near the results provided by barefeats. Quake 3 runs with approx 200fps in 1600x1200x32 (I expected 300+ fps), Quake 4 and UT2004 run okay, but not on high settings with high resolutions. So, not equivalent to what you wouldd expect from the system's specs) Same goes for Colin McRae Rallye. Now, I remember reading about performance issues in 10.5.8 with the flashed ROM since it doesn't seem to be a 1:1 copy of the original one. I didn't try it in Tiger since I don't exactly want to go back from Leopard. Am I right that this is probably an issue of the "OEM ROM" (from the macelite)? Does anyone have the real deal in terms of 7800GT ROMs and could provide me with a link?
BrHi-
If you send me an email via my website, I can send you a couple of ROMs that might work better.
http://www.jcsenterprises.com/Japamacs_Page/All_Things_PPC.html
Problem with the flashed 256 MB GT, though, is that Leopard runs slow.
Bad driver interaction.....
The 512 MB GTX is the way to go........ -
Performance issues with LOV bindings in 3-tier BC4J architecture
We are running BC4J and JClient (Jdeveloper 9.0.3.4/9iAS 9.0.2) in a 3-tier architecture, and have problems with the performance.
One of our problems are comboboxes with LOV bindings. The view objects that provides data for the LOV bindings contains simple queries from tables with only 4-10 rows, and there are no view links or entity objects to these views.
To create the LOV binding and to set the model for the combobox takes about 1 second for each combobox.
We have tried most of tips in http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/tips/muench/jclientperf/index.html, but they do not seem to help on our problem.
The performance is OK (if not great) when the same code is running as 2-tier.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?I can recommend that you look at the following two bugs in Metalink: Bug 2640945 and Bug 3621502
They are related to the disabling of the TCP socket-level acknowledgement which slows down remote communications for EJB components using ORMI (the protocol used by Oracle OC4J) to communicate between remote EJB client and server.
A BC4J Application Module deployed as an EJB suffers this same network latency penalty due to the TCP acknowledgement.
A customer sent me information (that you'll see there as a part of Bug# 3621502) like this on a related issue:
We found our application runs very slow in 3-Tier mode (JClient, BC4J deployed
as EJB Session Bean on 9iAS server 9.0.2 enterprise edition). We spent a lot
of time to tune up our codes but that helped very little. Eventually, we found
the problem seemed to happen on TCP level. There is a 200ms delay in TCP
level. After we read some documents about Nagle Algorithm, we disabled a
registry key (TcpDelAckTicks) in windows2000 on both client and server. This
makes our program a lot faster.
Anyway, we think we should provide our clients a better solution other than
changing windows registry for them, for example, there may be a way to disable
that Nagle's algorithm through java.net.Socket.setTcpNoDelay(true), in BC4J,
or anywhere in our codes. We have not figured out yet.
Bug 2640945 was fixed in Oracle Application Server 10g (v9.0.4) and it now disables this TCP Acknowledgement on the server side in that release. In the BugDB, I see backport patches available for earlier 9.0.3 and 9.0.2 releases of IAS as well.
Bug 3621502 is requesting that that same disabling also be performed on the client side by the ORMI code. I have received a test patch from development to try out, but haven't had the chance yet.
The customer's workaround in the interim was to disable this TCP Acknowledgement at the OS level by modifying a Windows registry setting as noted above.
See Also http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=328890
"New registry entry for controlling the TCP Acknowledgment (ACK) behavior in Windows XP and in Windows Server 2003" which documents that the registry entry to change disable this acknowledgement has a different name in Windows XP and Windows 2003.
Hope this info helps. It would be useful to hear back from you on whether this helps your performance issue. -
Performance issues with Imac intel 2011 27 inch..
I have an 2011 imac 3,4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM.
Since a few months i noticed performance issues with FCPX, where before it would run through video it shows sometimes the color ball. Now the computer is slow in starting up and shutting down also. Ran disk utility but to no avail. I am now considering reinstalling mavericks.
But I ran etrecheck.
here are the results, please who can help me? I use this computer to edit and about everything else.

Performance Issues with Photoshop CS6 64-Bit
Hello -
Issue at hand: over the course of the last few weeks, I have noticed significant issues with performance since the last update to PS CS6 via the Adobe Application Manager, ranging from unexpected shut downs to bringing my workstation to a crawl (literally, my cursor seems to crawl across my displays). I'm curious as to if anyone else is experiencing these issues, or if there is a solution I have not yet tried. Here is a list of actions that result in these performance issues - there are likely more that I have either not experienced due to my frustration, or have not documented as occuring multiple times:
Opening files - results in hanging process, takes 3-10 seconds to resolve
Pasting from clipboard - results in hanging process, takes 3-10 seconds to resolve
Saving files - takes 3-10 seconds to open the dialog, another 3-10 seconds to return to normal window (saving a compressed PNG)
Eyedropper tool - will either crash Photoshop to desktop, or take 5-15 seconds to load
Attempting to navigate any menu - will either crash Photoshop to desktop, or take 5-15 seconds to load
Attempts I've taken to resolve this matter, which have failed:
Uninstalled all fonts that I have added since the last update (this was a pain in the ***, thank you Windows explorer for being glitchy)
Uninstall application and reinstall application
Use 32-bit edition
Changing process priority to Above Normal
Confirm process affinity to all available CPU cores
Change configuration of Photoshop performance options
61% of memory is available to Photoshop to use (8969 MB)
History states: 20; Cache levels: 6; Cache tile size: 1024K
Scratch disks: active on production SSD, ~10GB space available
Dedicated graphics processor is selected (2x nVidia cards in SLI)
System Information:
Intel i7 2600K @ 3.40GHz
16GB DDR3, Dual Channel RAM
2x nVidia GeForce GTS 450 cards, 1GB each
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

This issue is costing me time I could be working every day, and I'm about ready to begin searching for alternatives and cancel my membership if I can't get this resolved.Adobe Photoshop Version: 13.1.2 (13.1.2 20130105.r.224 2013/01/05:23:00:00) x64

MSEGBWART MSEHi Ramya,
Your program contains a lot of BIG standard tables, these tables
usually contain huge amount of data,
plus you have used SELECT * in many places, try to avoid that and replace with only those field names that are reqd.
even the joins are on huge tables, performance could improve on those if you can put some more conditions or keys to the joins to make it more specific.
even after that if it gives the Runtime Error then you have 2 options:
1. Ask your Basis to increase Time limit for program executing in foreground.
2. Execute your program in Background Mode.

Performance issues when creating a Report / Query in Discoverer
Hi forum,
Hope you are can help, it involves a performance issues when creating a Report / Query.
I have a Discoverer Report that currently takes less than 5 seconds to run. After I add a condition to bring back Batch Status that = Posted we cancelled the query after reaching 20 minutes as this is way too long. If I remove the condition the query time goes back to less than 5 seconds.
Please see attached the SQL Inspector Plan:

Is there anything i can do in Discoverer Desktop / Administration to avoid this problem.
Many thanks,
LanceHi Rod,
I've tried the condition (Batch Status||'' = 'Posted') as you suggested, but the qeury time is still over 20 mins. To test i changed it to (Batch Status||'' = 'Unposted') and the query was returned within seconds again.
Ive been doing some more digging and have found the database view that is linked to the Journal Batches folder. See below.
I think the problem is with the column using DECODE. When querying the column in TOAD the value of P is returned. But in discoverer the condition is done on the value Posted. Im not too sure how DECODE works, but think this could be the causing some sort of issue with Full Table Scans. How do we get around this?

Many-to-many performance issue
I realize that many-to-many joins have been discussed before (yes, I looked through many threads), but I'm having a slight variation on the issue. Our data warehouse has been functioning for a couple of years now, but we're now experiencing a dramatic degradation in report performance. I'll tell you everything I know and what I've tried. My hope is that someone will have an idea that hasn't occurred to me yet.
The troubling data links deal with accounts and account_types. Each transaction will have one account, but each account can have multiple account_types and each account_type is made up of multiple accounts. It ends up looking like this:
Transaction_cube --< account_dimension >--< account_type_table
Given the many-to-many relationship between account and account_type, this is the only architecture I could come up with that will maintain data integrity in the transaction cube.
I know that this is the cause of the performance issues because the reports run normally when this is removed. The volume of data obviously increases over time, but the problem appeared very suddenly -- not a gradual degradation that one would expect from a volume issue. The cube is partitioned by year and we're a little below last year's growth.
The other fact to throw in is that the account_type table did increase in size by an additional 30% when we first noticed the problem. However, the business was able to go back and remove half of the account_types (unused types) so now the table has fewer rows than it had before we noticed the problem (~15k rows in the account_type table).
We have tried pinning the table so that it remain in memory, but that did not help. I tried creating a materialized view combining accounts and account_types with a similar lack of improvement. I've tried adding indexes, but there is still a full-table scan. All database objects are analyzed nightly after the data load is completed.
I'm fresh out of ideas at this point. Any suggestions and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.I've thought about that. What it would mean would be aprox. 20 additional columns for each of the different account_types. Unfortunately, that would also mean that all the reports that use the account_type would have to have a condition:
WHERE acct_type1='Income Stmt." OR acct_type2='Income Stmt." OR ....
Since the account_types are not set up in a hierarchy and there must be only one row for account, I'm not sure that this is a feasible solution.
Thank you for the suggestion. -

How should I report forum performance issues?
The forums rely heavily on the caching features of browsers to improve the speed of page rendering. Performance of these forums should greatly improve after a few pages because more and more of the images, css and javascript is cached in the browser. As a consequence, when reporting forums performance issues the report should include some information on the state of the browser cache to determine whether the issue is a browser issue or a server issue. Such detailed information is generally not available from just watching the browser screen, but needs to come from specialized tools such as performance monitor plugins and recording proxies.
The preferred report method for performance issues is to use the speed reporting features build into or available as a plugin for a browser for both the page you want to report a problem with and several refence pages in the site. Detailed instructions are listed below separated out for different browsers. If possible, please use Firefox for submitting the report because it provides an export format that can be read back electronically.
Known performance issues
The performance issues with any screen with a Rich Text Editor, such as the Reply window and the compose Private Message window have been acknowleged and improvements are being implemented.
Mozilla Firefox (preferred)
Warning: it is currently not recommended to generate a speed report when logged in. The speed report has enough detail for somebody else to hijack your session and impersonate you on the forums. If you really must report while logged in, make sure you log out your browser after generating the speed report and wait at least 4 hours before posting.

When you report a performance problem please attach the 6 exports from the Firebug Net panel and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal) and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting. If you have non-standard tweaks to your Firefox configuration (such as pipelining enabled) or are running any plugins please include that information in your report as well.

Since Google Chrome does not have an export format for the Resource Tracking information best current practice is to take a screenshot and note the hover details for any resource with a tail that is longer then 25% of the total load time. When you report a performance problem please attach the screenshots and an explanation of how you are experiencing the issues (for instance how much slower it is then normal) and include a description of your internet connection (dial-up, dsl, cable etc.) and the country from where you are connecting.
Apple Safari
The Apple Safari Web Inspector has a Resources panel similar to the Resources panel in the Google Chrome developer tools. To get there, follow these steps:
Show the menu bar.
Go to preferences
Go to the Advanced Tab
Check “Show Develop menu in menu bar”.
From the Develop menu select “Show Web Inspector”.
Collecting the performance information and exporting works exactly the same as in Google Chrome. Please refer to the instructions for Google Chrome.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
IE does not have native features to analyze web traffic. No plugins have been found that produce the required information (please let us know if we missed any). For now, please reproduce the issue with Firefox, Chrome or Safari.
Please note that due to the reliance on Javascript for the interactive effects the performance of these forums will be much better on MS IE 8 then on previous versions of MS IE.Hi
It works, check once again...

Performance issue with pl/sql code
Hi Oracle Gurus,
I am in need of your recommendations for a performance issue that I am facing in production envrionment. There is a pl/sql procedure which executes with different elapsed time at different executions. Elapsed Times are 30minutes , 40 minutes, 65 minutes , 3 minutes ,3 seconds.
Expected elapsed time is maximum of 3 minutes. ( But some times it took 3 seconds too...! )
Output on all different executions are same that is deletion and insertion of 12K records into a table.
Here is the auto trace details of two different scenarios.
Slow execution - 33.65 minutes
Stat Name Statement Per Execution % Snap
Elapsed Time (ms) 1,712,343 1,712,342.6 41.4
CPU Time (ms) 1,679,689 1,679,688.6 44.7
Executions 1 N/A N/A
Buffer Gets ########## 167,257,973.0 86.9
Disk Reads 1,284 1,284.0 0.4
Parse Calls 1 1.0 0.0
User I/O Wait Time (ms) 4,264 N/A N/A
Cluster Wait Time (ms) 3,468 N/A N/A
Application Wait Time (ms) 0 N/A N/A
Concurrency Wait Time (ms) 6 N/A N/A
Invalidations 0 N/A N/A
Version Count 4 N/A N/A
Sharable Mem(KB) 85 N/A N/A
-------------------------------------------------------------Fast Exection : 5 seconds
Stat Name Statement Per Execution % Snap
Elapsed Time (ms) 41,550 41,550.3 0.7
CPU Time (ms) 40,776 40,776.3 1.0
Executions 1 N/A N/A
Buffer Gets 2,995,677 2,995,677.0 4.2
Disk Reads 22 22.0 0.0
Parse Calls 1 1.0 0.0
User I/O Wait Time (ms) 162 N/A N/A
Cluster Wait Time (ms) 621 N/A N/A
Application Wait Time (ms) 0 N/A N/A
Concurrency Wait Time (ms) 55 N/A N/A
Invalidations 0 N/A N/A
Version Count 4 N/A N/A
Sharable Mem(KB) 85 N/A N/A
-------------------------------------------------------------For security reasons, I cannot share the actual code. Its a report generating code that deletes and load the data into table using insert into select statement.
Delete from table ;
cursor X to get the master data ( 98 records )
For each X loop
insert into tableA select * from tables where a= X.a and b= X.b and c=X.c ..... ;
-- 12 K records inserted on average
insert into tableB select * from tables where a= X.a and b= X.b and c=X.c ..... ;
-- 12 K records inserted on average
end loop ;1. The select query is complex with bind variables ( explain plan varies for each values )
2. I have checked the tablespace of the tables involved, it is 82% used. DBA confirmed that it is not the reason.
3. Disk reads are high during long execution.
4. At long running times, I can see a db sequential read wait event on a index object. This index is on the table where data is inserted.
All I need to find is why this code is taking 3 seconds and 60 minutes on the same day and on the consecutive executions ?
Is there any other approach to find the root cause of this behaviour and to fix it ? Kindly adivse.
Thanks in advance your help.
Regards,
Hari

This would improve readability greatly and will help us to help you
example
{<b></b>code}
select * from dual;{<b></b>code}
Based upon your description I can imagine two things.
a) The execution plan for the select query does change frequently.
A typical reason can be not up to date statistics.
b) Some locking / wait conflict. For example upon a UK index.
Are there any other operations going on while it is slow? If anybody inserts a value, then your session will wait, if the same (PK/UK) value also is to be inserted.
Those wait events can be recognized using standard tools like oracle sql developer or enterprise manager while the query is slow.
Also go through the links that are in the FAQ. They tell you how to get better information for makeing a tuning request.

Performance issue using webelements and crystal
We have 2 reports named, u201CDAMAGE_REPORTSu201D AND u201CTDI_CHARTu201D
DAMAGE_REPORTS
There are 13 dynamic or static Prompts created using Webelements .After clicking on submit button(using
webelement) by selecting the prompt values, TDI_CHART report will get opened below the u201CDAMAGE_REPORTSu201D report.
TDI_CHART
TDI_CHART created using free-hand SQL which contains 2 commands
1. Command-SQL is created based on two categories.
Trend -Trend By Month ,Trend By Quarter,Trend By Week
Non-Trend- Current Month ,Current Year to Date,Last Year to Date,Current Quarter,Last
Quarter,Current Week,Last Week,Last Month,Last Year Total
Charts,Cross-tabs and table information is coming from this Query
2.Image count-contains number of images information based on the prompt selection and it acts as a
URL(opendocument) in the report to open TDI_THUMBNAIL report to display the thumbnail images.
Report information
TDI_CHART Report contains 8 charts,4 cross-tabs, summary information showing in table format(Detail
section) and2 open document links(1.For image count 2.Export to excel(which shows the detail information
of summary table)
Description
If the selection is Non-Trend Value from the Time period parameter , corresponding Chart will be shown along with table information.(Table information is only required for Non-Trend Values).
If the Selection is Trend Value from the Time period parameter, the corresponding cross tab and chart will be shown and others will get suppressed.
Problem Area
After the prompt selection from u201CDamage_Reportsu201D, TDI_CHART report is taking around 1min 30 sec to show the chart and table or cross-tab.
In Database when we execute the above queries, it comes in 12 secs but whereas in reports it takes 1min 30 sec,can you guide us some steps to bring down this time?hello Mufiza,
copy the url created at the step "After the prompt selection from u201CDamage_Reports".
paste this url into a new browser window and press enter.
what is the time to return this report?...this time should also be 1.5 minutes.
it sounds like you are using 2 commands in the same report. this will often cause performance issues, just like linking two stored procedures together or linking two disparate datasources together.
this would not be an issue related to webelements but related to the design of your target report.
