What is this error java.sql.SQLException: Bad format for number ?
Dear All,
I am reading few values from database. Then I get this error "MyError:Error : java.sql.SQLException: Bad format for number 'Sarawak' in column 6. " So what is this error referring to. I have checked the database column and its value fits according the data type. Any hints please?I have checked the database column and its value fits according the data type.Check again. Then check again. Keep checking until you find your error. You are trying to read a string containing "Sarawak" as a number. You have "getInt(6)" or other numeric type, and the 6th column in the select statement is not numeric.

I am not an expert in MSDTC but as we know,SQL Azure Database does not support
distributed transactions. This means that SQL Azure doesn’t allow Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) to delegate distributed transaction handling.
One common cause of MSDTC getting involved in Entity Framework applications is the fact that we close and reopen the same connection as needed (i.e. for each query that is executed). To avoid the stack from opening and closing the connection multiple times,
you can simply open the connection explicitly and run the queries in the same connectio.
The following thread is about a similar issue, please refer to:
http://answers.flyppdevportal.com/categories/azure/sqlazure.aspx?ID=d705a8cf-cba4-494c-96f6-96a136bd29e3
What's more, you can also try the workaround that involves setting the Enlist option of the SQL Azure connection to false. For the detail explanation, please refer to:Entity

Problems using Quick Migrate in SQL Developer 1.5 for MySQL to Oracle 10g
Hi all,
I am trying to use SQL Developer 1.5 migration tools (Quick Migrate) to perform online capture and build source model to migrate from MySQL 5.x to Oracle 10g on Windows platform. I get these errors and the Quick Migrate process fails:
oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.PersistableObject.doInsert(PersistableObject.java:238)
I did a search and used the sqldeveloper.cmd script but still fails. Then I created a new database and truncated the repository. I now get the above error plus two new ones listed below:
oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
Error occurred during capture: Protocol violation
It fails during the capture process for MySQL 5.1 database
when it begins to capture the tables from MySQL.
Does anyone know how to resolve these issues when migrating from MySQL to Oracle 10g using Quick Migrate with SQL Developer 1.5 release?

Ben Prusinski

benprusinskiHi all,
I put the following in my sqldeveloper.cmd file:
SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
What is very confusing is that with SQL Developer 1.5, there are several levels and several SQL Developer executables! I am really not sure which of these to use:
I created the SQLDeveloper 1.5 directory called SQLDeveloper1_5 on Windows:
1) cd C:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338
there exists a sqldeveloper.exe
2) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe
3) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloer\bin\sqldeveloper.exe
Which SQLDeveloper 1.5 executable should I be using and where should I place the
sqldeveloper.cmd file?
Also I did try to use a different database and schema for the repository with Quick Migrate but it appears a bug exists in SQL Developer 1.5 version that causes errors with Quick Migrate for MySQL to Oracle? Is this correct?
As an update, I ran the following commands:
cd to
c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin
sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
Start sqldeveloper.exe
Perform standard capture for MySQL using the new mig2 schema as the new repository
It starts the capture but fails on the errors below:
Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
UPDATE
============================
I tried this again and it worked with the exception of one error message listed below:
Here are the steps that I followed:
1. Create a Windows cmd script
Put the following entries in the script:
SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
save the command windows script as sqldeveloper.cmd
Copy this script to the base installation directory for SQLDeveloper
Example:
1. cd c:\SQLDeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper
2. Start SQLDeveloper with the command script that you created earlier
Example:
Open a Windows shell prompt window and execute the following scripts:
a) sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
b) sqldeveloper.exe
3) In SQL Developer 1.5
From the Migrate menu,
a) Delete current repository and create a new schema in Oracle target database call it mig2.
b) Then create a new repository in SQL Developer 1.5
c) Right mouse click on the MySQL 5.x database and choose capture
It worked with the exception of one error message:
o.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean.
So it looks like something is screwed up with my JDBC drivers and configuration for MySQL. How do I diagnose the JDBC driver issue for MySQL?
Thanks!!!
Ben

LabWindows CVI and SQL Toolkit cursor/schema error
We are using CVI 8.5 and SQL Toolkit 2.0.6 to write data to a SQL Server 2008 database. We are utilizing the Microsoft ODBC SQL Server (non-native) driver. We build a transaction that calls stored procedures on the database to write the data. Occasionally we get the following error:
"Could not complete cursor operation because the table schema changed after the cursor was declared"
The error is unusual since we only use one cursor and it is in a stored procedure that gets called by other software hundreds of times a day and never fails. Our database is also designed to only append records, not change existing ones. We're trying to pinpoint the error and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the SQL Toolkit uses cursors to build transactions or if this error has been seen by others. Since upgrading the toolkit or drivers takes a lot of effort, I want to make sure that I understand the problem before I start throwing darts at it. Thanks in advance for any insight.I've attached the function that's failing. Unfortunately, the code isn't designed with much resolution as to what SQL toolkit call failed, since these calls haven't failed once validated and put into the production environment. Can you tell if any of these functions use a cursor. I could certainly try adding more resolution to the error handling, but since we've only seen errors occasionally in the production environment, I'd need to release a temp version and monitor it. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Thankz,
Bala.Hi friends...
I've read the last post...
The problem that I have is as follow....
1. I have installed on my machine MySQL 5.0 Server running
1.1 I have a database called "base1"
1.2 User "root", password "works"
1.3 I have the following sentence to connect it using JDBC
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/base1", "root", "works");
More notes:
- I use the JDBC 5.0
- My Machine is a Windows XP SP2 Pentium 3.0 512Mb
and it connects
but I have this environment to develop applications, now that I want to connect to Production Environment happens the following:
2 The Production database is mounted on a Linux Server with MySQL 3.2.
2.1 I change the sentences as follow:
Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://192.168.0.7/base1", "user", "password");
2.3 But a message appears when I run the Java Program:
java.sql.SQLException:Access denied for user: '[email protected]' (Using password: YES)
2.4 As you can see it changes the IP Address...
More notes:- I have the MySQL Query Browser and I got connection.
- The IP that display the Error Message is my Second IP configurated on my Network Properties.
- Server is a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz 2Gb Linux Red Hat 3.0
I leave this case for the spider... I hope that somebady has the solution.
What is the problem? Why the JDBC doesn't respect the IP that I wrote. -
SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column
Hi,
I'm trying to understand the above error. It occurs when we are migrating data from one oracle database to another:
Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-12899: value too large for column "USER_XYZ"."TAB_XYZ"."COL_XYZ" (actual: 10, maximum: 8)
12899. 00000 - "value too large for column %s (actual: %s, maximum: %s)"
*Cause: An attempt was made to insert or update a column with a value
which is too wide for the width of the destination column.
The name of the column is given, along with the actual width
of the value, and the maximum allowed width of the column.
Note that widths are reported in characters if character length
semantics are in effect for the column, otherwise widths are
reported in bytes.
*Action: Examine the SQL statement for correctness. Check source
and destination column data types.
Either make the destination column wider, or use a subset
of the source column (i.e. use substring).
The source database runs - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
The target database runs - Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
The source and target table are identical and the column definitions are exactly the same. The column we get the error on is of CHAR(8). To migrate the data we use either a dblink or oracle datapump, both result in the same error. The data in the column is a fixed length string of 8 characters.
To resolve the error the column "COL_XYZ" gets widened by:
alter table TAB_XYZ modify (COL_XYZ varchar2(10));
-alter table TAB_XYZ succeeded.
We now move the data from the source into the target table without problem and then run:
select max(length(COL_XYZ)) from TAB_XYZ;
-8
So the maximal string length for this column is 8 characters. To reduce the column width back to its original 8, we then run:
alter table TAB_XYZ modify (COL_XYZ varchar2(8));
-Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-01441: cannot decrease column length because some value is too big
01441. 00000 - "cannot decrease column length because some value is too big"
*Cause:
*Action:
So we leave the column width at 10, but the curious thing is - once we have the data in the target table, we can then truncate the same table at source (ie. get rid of all the data) and move the data back in the original table (with COL_XYZ set at CHAR(8)) - without any issue.
My guess the error has something to do with the storage on the target database, but I would like to understand why. If anybody has an idea or suggestion what to look for - much appreciated.

Use SQL Reference for datatype specification, length function, etc.

Java.sql.SQLException: Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-24
Hi All,
Am having serious problem with ORA-24327 and the behavior is very very unpredictable. I have couple of environment where the same error comes in different context. The recent one was surprising. I have describe bellow the environment configuration and the stack trace. The error which surprised me was when I use type 3 driver while starting weblogic I get ORA 24327 but when I use Type 4 it starts properly. If you could kindly provide solution it would be great help. I would also appreciate if u can provide information which driver to use where performance is the major concern. I would also appreciate if u could provide feed-back from the industry about booth the driver. Apart from that I have couple have environment where it occurs when 10/12 user access simultaneously. All the open connection is closed in program properly still am getting the error.
Thanks in anticipation.

:62)Hi,
I guess you can try some of these:
- Make sure you're not missing an entry inside your tnsnames.ora file. Thin driver does not require the information inside that file, as opposed to Weblogic's OCI driver. If you are able to connect to the DB using a thin driver, then the problem is most probably (WL)driver-related.
- Make sure you've properly configured the DB user / password inside your weblogic.properties (config.xml if WL6+).
- Make sure you're able to access all drivers and classes required (PATH, CLASSPATH, etc...)
- Make sure the OCI driver version you are using is fully compatible with the Oracle (server) version you are pointing to.
- Try to access the DB user through some other client (for instance, SQLPlus*).
Hope this is of some help,
Freddy. -

Hi Joe,
I have checked the ORACLE_HOME parameter. There was a differnce. Ichanged to
/oracle/app/product/8.1.7
Now i am getting different exception. But still the standalone codeis working.
any clues why I am getting this exception. I will send the code andthe weblogic
properties file for reference if u need.Good. No, I don't need it. Now make sure the library path that the OS
uses to find
Oracle libraries, and our driver libraries etc., is in the same order
for the
server as for the shell that is successful on it's own. Make sure your
Oracle
client stuff is ahead of any weblogic libraries.

The environment for the server probably doesn't have the same ORACLE_HOME
setting as your shell when you succeed in a standalone.
Also, you should be using our connection pools, and you should avoid
making DriverManager calls in any multithreaded app such as WebLogic.

ERROR using SQL Server 2000, FOR UPDATE clause problem
Hi All,
Because our main target for RDBMS mostly SqlServer2000, I try to use ADF BC with one. I successfully run the BC with Tester, scrolling up and down, BUT when i try to make changes and do commit, I receive ERROR, I have tried both JDBC Driver from Microsoft and jTDS, both FAILS.
I have set the 'Default Locking Mode ..' to 'optimistic'
(default is 'pessimistic'), it doesn't help.
Here is the error :
With Microsoft JDBC Driver :
(oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-26080: Error while selecting entity for Departments
----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
(java.sql.SQLException) [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC][SQLServer] FOR UPDATE cannot be specified on a READ ONLY cursor.
With jTDS JDBC Driver :
(oracle.jbo.DMLException) JBO-26080: Error while selecting entity for Departments
----- LEVEL 1: DETAIL 0 -----
(java.sql.SQLException) Line 1: FOR UPDATE clause allowed only for DECLARE CURSOR.
Pls any body help...
Thank you,
KristKrist,
we added a new SQL Flavor 'SQLServer' in JDeveloper 10.1.2
This was implemented to handle special SQL syntax of SQLServer, different from SQL92 (among others the FOR UPDATE problem you're facing).
For new projects, you can select this flavor during their creation. For projects that were defined with Flavor SQL92, you can switch to SQLServer at runtime by setting the parameter jbo.SQLBuilder=SQLServer (in your Application Module configuration or as a java option -Djbo.SQLBuilder=...)
Regards,
Didier.
