Define Number Ranges

Hi Expert,
Can anyone send me snap shot of "defined number ranges?" I searched in available answers , but still having queries.
I have gone thru the path - SPRO - Personnel Management - Basic Settings - Define number ranges - But what does those 3 columns mean? What I have to assign?
If it is something like , 99999 - what is the length of the numbers?
Awaiting your prompt reply...

Sejal

Hi,
Have a look on this.
Maintain Number Ranges
In this step, you specify the number ranges for your PD objects and the type of number assignment. You must assign a unique number to every object.
You have the following options:
Internal number assignment
If you want the SAP System to assign the numbers, enter "IN" in the 'NR' field. The number ranges are then indicated by the letters "IN".
External number assignment
If you want the user to assign the numbers, enter "EX" in the 'NR' field. The number ranges are then indicated by the letters "EX".
You can define your own number ranges (subgroups) for individual plan versions (that are not valid for all plan versions) and object types. The names of the subgroups are set up so that the first characters specify the plan version and the last two specify the object type in detail. The structure of the subgroups depends on whether you are using number assignment valid for all plan versions or not.
Example
Number assignment for plan version 10 / object type S: Subgroup 10S
Standard settings
The entry $$$$ in the field subgroup represents all number ranges not listed explicitly. You should not delete this entry.
Recommendation
Since the matchcode function is available for the selection of objects, it is generally not necessary to assign "mnemonic" numbers.
SAP recommends that you use internal number assignment.
Activities
1. Enter the subgroup for which you wish to set up number assignment.
The following entries are allowed (when number assignment is not valid for all plan versions).
$$$$ (plan version and object type are generic)
PV$$ (plan version, object type is generic)
PVOT (plan version, object type)
The following entry is not allowed:
$$OT (plan version generic, object type)
The following entries are allowed (when number assignment is valid for all plan versions):
$$$$ (plan version and object type are generic)
$$OT (plan version generic, object type)
The following entries are not allowed:
PVOT (plan version, object type)
PV$$ (plan version, object type is generic)
Save your entries. The systems automatically creates an external number range (EX) and an internal number range (IN).
2. Specify the subgroup on the following screen and choose "Change intervals".
3. A new data screen appears on which you can maintain number range intervals. Choose "Create interval".
4. Enter the code for the number assignment (IN or EX), the lower limit and the upper limit of the interval in the dialog box which then appears.
In the case of external number assignment, mark the field "ext" also.
5. Choose "Insert" and save your entries.

  • User defined Number range for TD Bulk Shipments

    Hello,
By defining Customer specific logic with certain conditions through Z table, can we have a user defined Number range for TD Bulk Shipments? As SAP std. either we can have internal number range or external. If external is opted for, then every time User has to specify the same while creating a Shipment in O4F1. There is a every chance that Users will commit mistakes. In order to avoid this can we have something automatic (i.e. System will take care).
e.g. In SD Billing we have one User exit:- USEREXIT_NUMBER_RANGE (Module pool SAPLV60A, program RV60AFZZ). With this and depending upon certain conditions (which are maintained in Z table) we can have our own number range.
Similarly, Can any one please suggest either a User Exit or  BAdi or some enhancement point for this requirement?
    Regards,
    Aniruddha.
Edited by: Aniruddha Saraf on Jan 3, 2008 2:28 PM

    Hi Anirudhdha,
There is no standard exit for number ranges like those in SD. However, you can try using the exit EXIT_SAPMOIGS_001 for this purpose. You will still need to enter internal number range in the shipment type configuration.
    Hope this helps,

  • Problem--Define number range for cProjects projects

    Hi,
Does anybody knows how to define/create number range for projects in cProjects?.
In the standard cPrjects frontend system, the system is taking 16 digits number automatically so i want to define my own number range as required by the client.
Hence please let me know if some knows abt how to define number ranges for projects in cProjects system.
You can also reach me on [email protected]
    Thanking you,
    Cheers,
    Suresh Nagaraja

    Hi Suresh,
don't think there is a standard functionality for this. But you could create your own number range object and fill the data via BAdi. Try DPR_ATTRIBUTES.

  • Again:  Define Number Ranges per Backend System for Follow-on Documents

Obviously I have a problem with this setting! What have I done wrong?
We are running ECS with multiple Backends. We want to assign different number ranges to each backend PO.
    Our settings:
    - Number Range SC and Follow On Documents:                          01 0100000000 - 0199999999 (internal) and
    P1 3010000000 - 3019999999 (internal)
    - Number Range local PO:                                                         P0 3000000000 - 3999999999 (internal)
    - Number Ranges per Backend System for Follow-on Documents: XYZCLNT010 PO number range = P1
    - Transaction Type ZRM assigned to number range PO
    - Backend Document Type ZRM assigned to an external number range P1  3010000000 - 3019999999
I would have expected following system behaviour:
System creates the local PO within number range P0 and creates in backend XYZCLNT010 a PO within number range P1.
But instead SRM tries to post the backend PO with a number from range  P0.
    What is wrong?
    Rgds.

Hi. I do not know how to fix your problem as standard, I have never done the same setup, but BADI BBP_BS_GROUP_BE will allow you to choose different number ranges in method GET_NUMBER_OR_RANGE.
    Does that help at all?

  • Maitenance Plan - Number range not defined

I am trying to create a maintenance plan from a brand new system. When going to IP31 I get the error, number range not defined. So I went to SPRO and transported the number ranges. It still would not create a maintenace plan and got the same error. Am I supposed to assign the categories to the Maitenance plans number ranges? If so, how do I do this?
    Your help is appreciated.

    Hi,
There are two relevant number ranges - One for maintenance plan and the other for maintenance item. Customizing as follows:
      -Plant Maintenance and Customer Service
-Maintenance Plans, Work Centers, Task Lists and PRTs
      -Maintenance Plans
            > >Define Number Ranges for Maintenance Plans
            > >Define Number Ranges for Maintenance Items
Alternatively use transaction IP20 and IP21.
In the case of maintenance plan number range you must assign each category to a particular number range. Use the icon 'change groups' to do this.

  • Number Range (series) for Billing Document (F2) and Excise Invoice

    Hi All,
I want to know how the number ranges / number series is defined for billing documents (F2) and excise invoice, for India business scenario.
In India, the excise invoice is given to the customer so that he can the excise duty/ cenvat. This invoice acts as the Tax invoice (having all pricing elements apart from excise duty) against which customer outstanding is considered. That is, the payment due will be tracked against this Tax (excise) invoice.
But in SAP, the accounts posting is done (customer a/c debited) when we creaate and post the billing document (type F2). Hence, the outstanding amount is tracked against the billing document created. This billing doc/invoice will have all the pricing components like price, discount, freight, etc apart from excise duty.
The excise invoice is created separately....with ref to the above billing doc....for posting the excise duty.
If the number ranges for billing document and excise invoice are different then it is difficult to trace the outstanding amount from a particular customer on the basis of excise invoice created in the system.
Can somebody provide inputs/solution on this?
    Thanks indvance.
    Rgds,
    Amit

    Hi Saurabh,
My question is not how to define number range for billing doc and excise invoice? i mean what procedure / tcode to be used for the same?
My question is whether we need to define same number range for Billing doc (F2) as well as Excise Invoice.
For example: number range 1000 to 1999  --- same for F2 and excise invoice....
Lets say billing doc 1000 is created. Further, when we create excise invoice w.r.t. this billing doc....the excise invoice created will also need to be 1000. ....so that we can identify that against this excise invoice, we need to collect the payment from customer.
If the number ranges for billing doc and excise invoice are different, then it is difficult for the user to trace the outstanding payment .....because genarally the excise is treated as Tax invoice by companies in India ...(so that the customer can claim the excise duty....when he purchases the goods from the company).
Whereas the customer account is hit when the billing doc is posted .....hence i feel, we need to keep the same number range for billing doc and exice invoice.
Hope the question/scenario is clear now.
I would appreciate the inputs on the above, from the consultants/experts who have worked on SAP implementation projects in India.
    Rgds,
    Amit

  • Invoice and Accounting Number ranges

    Hi,
I have a requirement where the invoice number and the accounting document number should be same. Ie: If I generate an invoice with number 101. The same number should be populated for the accounting document as well.
    Regards,
    Sam

    Hi Sam,
Yes. The path is SPRO -> Sales & Dist -> Billing -> Billing Documents -> Define number ranges for billing documents.
I dont think you can have an external number range for a billing document. Infact the provision is not available in the billing document type config screen.

    Dear Experts,
I'm stucking in a scenario related to HUM
There are two handling units -
    1. Bag
    2. Pallet
through T code HU02 , it's possible to create an HU and assign it internal generated number.
But as per our requirement , we want to assign the external number to the HU (which is barcode number of bag or pallet)
Can you pls let me know the process of assigning External number range to HU.
Also we want to create the HU automatically after GR in production (MIGO,101) , instead of manually via HU02.
Pls explin the process of creation of HU automatically also...
    Thanks in advance..

Check with FM BAPI_HU_PACK.For packing an item into HU.
For external number range you need configure external number range
    SPRO>Logistics - General>Handling Unit Management>Basics>Technical Basics-->Define Number Ranges for Handling Units.
After GR  for production you need to confighre internal number range for perticular packing material type then system will automatically pack and place in HU location.
