Deleted Items deletes email weekly

I am using the Exchange setup on the iPhone for my work email (Exchange Server). Everything works great for email except that messages in the Deleted Items folder get trashed after one week. And, yes, we do have IMAP enabled on the server.
The iPhone is set to 'Never' for removing/deleting items in this folder.
I do not want any messages in the Deleted Items folder to be deleted unless I do it manually.
Any idea? Thanks, in advance.

Moreover, the iPhone gives the option of how to handle the various folders and its set correctly. Only on the iPhone is the email in the Trash (i.e., shown on the iPhone as Trash but on .Mac in Deleted Items).
If you have the Deleted Items server stored mailbox for the account selected as the mailbox for messages marked for deletion to be placed when Entourage, this server stored mailbox should be available to be designated as the account's server stored Trash mailbox for the account preferences with the iPhone's email client.
Do you have the Deleted Items server stored mailbox designated as the account's server stored mailbox with the iPhone's email client? Seems like you would want the same server stored mailbox designated with both email clients - with Entourage and with the iPhone's email client.
No folder should delete items.
True.
This doesn't mean anything by itself but I don't use Entourage and I've never had a problem with messages being purged from my .Mac account's server stored mailbox other than my designated setting which is the same with the Mail.app on my Mac. I also use the same server stored Trash mailbox with both - because I have only one.

  • .Mac Deleted Items 'deleting' email

Why is my .Mac email moved to the Deleted Items folder being deleted after a specified period. I have the iPhone set to 'Never' and do not have any setting to actually delete email in this folder, whether its Entourage, the .Mac site or the iPhone. I only want to delete manually.
This behavior started after I got an iPhone. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

    It can matter.
If the account settings are transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process, sometimes something can go wrong with the transfer process.
People reporting a problem with their account or account settings after transferring the account settings via the iTunes sync process resolved the problem by deleting and manually recreating the account on their iPhone. This indicates there was a problem with the account settings transfer process.
Are you accessing the account as an IMAP account with Entourage on your Mac?

  • Deleting items, Deleting items

I have downloaded at least a thousand music files off of various websites. I have moved all of the files to itunes and then moved them from the desktop to the trash. Now my old mac book g4 says that the hard drive is full and i need to delete items in order to download more music. So my question is if i delete all of the items out of the trash, will they also delete off of itunes or will they stay on?

Go with #2, post here when you get the drive for instructions on how to do it.
Drive will be less than $100, get a 500 gigabyte drive in a case offering USB at least, Firewire in addition is better (but not Firewire only)

Who is the email account provider?
With an Apple iCloud account, there is a preference setting with the account settings on the iPhone to archive messages - save deleted messages in your Archive folder.
I believe the same is available with a Gmail account.

  • Emails are automatically moved to Recover deleted Items folder

    Hi,
We have a user and he is receiving his emails in Inbox but after few seconds it will be automatically moved to Recover Deleted Items. We checked his Outlook and also in OWA and we couldn't see any rule. Even though I ran /cleanrules switch but still
same problem exists. Any suggesstion to resolve this issue? Thanks

    Hi,
By "Recover Deleted Items folder", do you mean the Deleted Items folder or
Recover Deleted Items dialog when clicking Folder tab >
    Recover Deleted Items button?
I'd like to confirm if all the received messages don’t disappear directly but still only stay in your mailbox for a short period of time before they disappeared?
Which version of Outlook are you using? Do you have the default delivery location of your mailbox set to a PST file?
In addition, some problematic add-in may also cause such issue, especially the virus scanner add-in that integrate with Outlook. If you have such add-in installed, I'd recommend you contact the vendor of the antivirus, ask them how to uninstall the
add-in or change the settings to ignore Outlook emails when scanning.

  • How does the EDB handle deleted items and why am I only able to recover some and not all previously deleted emails?

    Hello,
I have been unable to locate information regarding how the EDB handles deleted files.  I am able to recover deleted emails from the EDB; however, there are numerous emails that I know have been deleted, that were not recovered during the recovery process.
Is this because the EDB dumps deleted emails once it reaches a certain amount of entries?  Or is it more likely the deleted items are corrupted and thus not recoverable?  Thank you for your time and I look forward to your responses.  The
product in question is Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.

Great information from the other posters and one other possible explanation is if the users did a HARD DELETE.  More information on this below
    Pre-Exchange 2010 Dumpster 1.0 worked as follows;
    1. When a user does a normal delete of an item via Outlook or OWA it gets sent to your deleted items folder
    2. If the user then empties deleted items folder those items are then marked with the ptagDeletedOnFlag attribute which in essence hides them from the view of the user
    3. At this point the user can use the Recover Deleted Items function in Outlook to recover those items as long as the items were NOT purged using the Recover Deleted Items option OR the items have not passed still the deleted item retention period.
NOTE: Every day there is a nightly maintenance process that in short looks through  the DB and examines items that have been deleted. Items that have met or exceeded the deleted item retention period are purged from the system and are
completely non-recoverable.  More about this at the end of my post.
    4. However if the end user were to  delete an item from the Inbox or another folder in Outlook by using Shift + Delete aka a Hard Deletion the item is left in its orignal location and gets marked with the ptagDeletedOnFlag attribute which again just
    hides it from view.
    5. By default you can only use the Recover Deleted Items option on the Delted Items folder.  Howeve you can make it so that you can recover hard Deleted items from other folders.  More on that here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246153
    5. The problem with this method though IMO is that you have to know where to look and that can be rather time consuming.
    6. If you want a more elegant method to resolve this and are open to using 3rd party utilities check out Lucid8's DigiScope.
http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp which will allow you to open any offline copy of the DB from a forensic point of view and to solve your specific issue you can either turn on a filter to ONLY
show hard deleted items OR you can search the entire store and all mailboxes for just deleted items and can then view or export them to PST or MSG format.  You can download the product and obtain a 30 day demo license which will allow you to find any
hard deleted items, however to view them or export your would need to purchase a license.
NOTE: When a database is backed up or copied it is an "Offline" database and then its offline the data retention period is not an issue because the nightly online maintenance process can only act on a database that is mounted on an
Exchange server.  So for this reason if you want to recover the most data possible use offline copies/backups of the DB with a 3rd party utility like DigiScope
NOTE 2: Exchange 2010 and 2013 use Dumpster 2.0 which is an entirely different beast and I will not go into that in this post since its nearly 1AM  however DigiScope can expose that information as well
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003
    --> 2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's
    DigiScope

  • Email moved from inbox to deleted items automatically

I have 1 user that is getting email moved from his inbox to his deleted items folder automatically.
I have checked the AutomateProcessing setting and that does not seem to be the problem.
He does have a blackberry through thier web service that syncs email but the settings there are to leave messages alone and has work for over a year now.
This just started happening without any known changes being made. He is the only user that is having this issue.
Messages will stay in the inbox for a few minutes to a few hours before they are moved. It does not seem to coincide with blackberry syncing or any other owa\outlook mailbox access.
I checked the exchange message tracking logs but that only tracks a message once it gets to the mailbox. Is there a feature that can log when a message is moved from one folder to another and what\who made the request to do so?
Just me and me alone keeps this ship afloat!

    Check info:
    1.      Could you tell the version of exchange and outlook? Currently, I assume it’s exchange 2003
    Exchange 2007
    2.      Is there any other user got same issue?
No other users seem to be effected.
    3.      What’s the setting of AutomateProcessing?
    Currently set to "None"
    4.      Quote: “user has never created a rule in his life”
Does it mean there are no rules in “Rules and Alerts” option in the “Tools” menu?
    Yes
    5.      Please move the mailbox of the problematic user to another mailbox store, which can fix the corruption of mailbox, including corrupted rules (If has)
Single Exchange server installation. Do not have another mailbox store.

  • Help please? Outlook 2011 stuck on 'updating message list' after deleting 1000's of emails from my 'deleted items' folder

    Hello.
I've been searching online for an answer and can't find one - hopefully someone can help...
I recently updated to Yosemite and decided on a general clear-out, so went through 1000's of documents, photos, emails, etc. I ended up deleting the all of the emails in my 'deleted items' folder. Since then, when I go into Outlook and hit the 'send/receive' tab it logs on as normal, but then gets stuck on 'updating message list' - it shows me that there are emails and how many, but will not download them.
Does anyone have any experience of this?
    Many thanks!

  • Emails get deleted automatically after 2 weeks

My emails are getting deleted automatically after 2 weeks. I have important emails that I cannot retrieve. I changed setting to never delete but it keeps deleting. Also I called about the issue and It was never fixed. I cannot be loosing emails. Especially that this is an email address that everyone knows for me.

Do you have the account enabled on more than one device or computer?  If so, the retention settings on that other device will override the settings in Comcast preferences.

  • Emails in my 'trash' are being deleted after about 5 weeks, but I want to retain them. I have elected 'never' on the 'permanently erase deleted messages' option, so I'm not sure why this happening?

emails in my 'trash' are being deleted after about 5 weeks, but I want to retain them. I have selected 'never' on the 'permanently erase deleted messages' option, so I'm not sure why this happening? any ideas?

iCloud emails in the Trash are deleted after 30 days on the website, and this over-rides the 'never' setting in Mail. There is no way of stopping this. (The Trash isn't really intended as a permanent storage area.)
Try this workaround. Go to http://www.icloud.com and go to the Mail page. In the sidebar, click on '+' to the right of 'Folders' to create a new folder; give it a suitable name.
Now click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left. At the bottom of the pane which opens, set the 'Move deleted messages to' drop-down menu to your new folder.
I'm not sure whether, when you delete messages in the Mail application, they will go to the Trash or your new folder - you'll need to experiment. I have a nasty feeling that Mail will simply move them to the Trash as before. If this is the case you will have to move them to your new folder manually - dragging messages directly to this folder rather than hitting the delete key will be the easiest way.

  • Exchange email issues (remote search and deleted items folder)

I use an exchange account on my Q10 and there is two huge problems about it. - the remote search will find email that are at most 60 days old, anything older can't be found on the Q10. I have added the same exchange account to my iPad and iPhone 5 where I can search for several year old email. - the "deleted items" folder won't sync on the Q10. So whenever I delete an email on any device (including the Q10) it gets moved to deleted items. But the Q10 where the folder is empty because it does not sync. (Issue has been confirmed from several people on crackberry forums)

I'm currently experience the same situations with my Q10. It seems like doesn't sync the folder immediately even if you select the refresh option.yoomy wrote:

  • Email going to deleted items Office 365

I am using Office 365 for small business and have installed a local copy of Outlook on my laptop.  No rhyme or reason, some of my emails wind up in My Deleted Items as Unread.  I have no rules in place, no spam settings in place.  Has anyone
    seen this before.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brad

First of all, please check this on Outlook Web APP to see if emails still go to Deleted Items folder. If yes, then it’s not an issue on Outlook client side. I would suggest you to check on Exchange Online side.
On Outlook client side, I would suggest you to run Outlook with /cleanrules switch anyway to clean any hidden rules:Outlook.exe /cleanclientrules
A corrupted data file also could cause this issue, I would suggest you to use scanpst.exe tool to repair your data file. Please refer to this article on how to use scanpst.exe:

  • E72 Email : "Deleted Items" folder disappears ?

Tonight, my phone downloaded emails as usual. Some of messages were spams, so I deleted them. After I press "delete", the email app stopped responding. After about 1 min, it started responding again, but the "Deleted Items" has disappeared. Now in my mailbox there are only Inbox, Sent Items, Outbox and Drafts . Any solution guys ?

Yeah, the difference was you using IMAP vs. me using POP3.  I have rarely used IMAP, as my ISP's don't support it, but just gave myself a refresher.  POP3 is the oldest mail protocol in use today.  It knows nothing of folder structure, read/unread marks, tagging, push, multiple client access, etc.  IMAP can do all of these things, but with potentially greater stress to the server, which is why I think many ISP's stay with POP3.  Gmail, for example, is IMAP-only.  You typically wouldn't want to switch from one to the other (I would use IMAP if I could!) but switching involves deleting and re-adding the account again, using either a different host name or port.  For example
    POP3 server:  pop.mailserver.com:110
    IMAP server: imap.mailserver.com:143
Check your ISP's email settings if you really want to switch.  Hope that helps!
Oh, and your Deleted Items folder disappearing sounds like a bug to me.  The next time it happens, check your email account from a desktop/laptop computer and see if Deleted Items shows up there.  Perhaps try deleting something to see what happens.  If this works normally, then I suspect it's another bug in Nokia Email 2.2.0.

  • Permanently deleting your deleted items to allow for sent mail

Does anyone know of a way to permanently delete your deleted items folder to clear space on your Exchange Server so that you can send more mail? My server caps me at a mailbox of 100Mb. If I go over that, I must empty my deleted items folder to send more mail. Blackberry has this built in...has anyone found this on the iPhone?

    YM NYC,
There is not a "Delete all" option but a couple of things you can do.
As I understand it you want to remove the content from the deleted items, is that correct?
Settings -> Mail -> email account -> Advancted -> Deleted Messages -> Remove and the choices are never, after 1 day, after 1 week or after 1 month.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Mails were deleted automatically from inbox and sent items, even in deleted items in Exchange 2013 CU2

    Dear all:
I encountered a problem and needs to be solved.
We runs Exchange 2013 CU2, and some users told me that their mails in sent items and inbox were automatically delivered into "deleted items", especially in last two weeks or yesterday.
The users said they cannot delete so many mails at one time. And now I found one user's mails in "deleted items" were also deleted this morning.
I don't know whether it was bug or not in exchange 2013 cu2, and how to solve this problem? Thanks for any help.

    Hi koiso,
Are there any commons among problematic users or deleted emails? For example,
they are on the same database
    they have delegate settings
they are using mobile phone to sync emails
At the same time, I'd recommend you enable Mailbox Audit Log for the problematic users. For your reference:
